Thank you to the publisher for an advance copy via netgalley!

I was skeptical of this book. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise! The author does a great job at giving the reader concrete examples to implement in your own social interactions. It also gives you examples of what not to do and explains why which makes the reader comprehend so much better. Great job! Great read of anyone who wants to improve their social intersections, from anxious introverts to outspoken extroverts.

A well researched self help book about nonverbal communication. There were some good tips and insights about common communication ques and more. However< I thought it was preachy especially when talking about the business side of the book. it sounded like he was catering to the business moguls and how they succeed while the blue color and other workers could learn from the higher ups and that the isn't as valued or appreciated. Sounded like he was talking people away from current jobs to be venture capitalists.

Some good information on communication and how you may be giving off the wrong message but not for me. Very opiniated author. There are better self help books on the topic of nonverbal communication that doesn't make the reader feel insignificant and unsuccessful.

Thanks to Netgalley, the author and St Martin's Press Essentials for an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

Items of Note:
* If you concentrate on avoiding obstacles instead of concentrating on your goals, you will run straight into the obstacles.
* The best way to get people to change a behavior is to let them feel that they are in control of the decision.
* Giving someone the opportunity to say no actually increases the chance of them saying yes.

I left this book in the car for 2 whole months and would read it whenever I had a road trip, making me feel like the Gilmore Girls scene when Rory was explaining to her mom how she has a “bus book” and a “lunch book” and they are strictly for those occasions hahaha

This for me was the book you just leave there and sort of forget about for a couple of weeks and then randomly come back to it, and the cycle repeats itself until the end of the book. (Or until you DNF it 😬)

It didn’t strike me as revolutionary or life-changing, but it was entertaining and, on a few occasions, I found myself highlighting and making notes like crazy! Which is not the most suitable for doing in a car since you’ll most likely end up with scribbles that look like a 3-year-old made them! (Please don’t do this if you don’t want to experience first-hand embarrassment when lending it to a friend)

All in all, I think this just adds up to the list of self-improvement books that helped me a bit but I’m already forgetting about. But that doesn’t mean it has to be like that for you! Maybe you’ll love it! Who knows?

This is one of the books that makes me recall this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, meaning in the end, I’m happy to have read it.
“I cannot remember the books I’ve read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.”

Anyways folks, here's a cute puppy to brighten your day! Thanks for reading me :)

THE ART OF SOCIAL EXCELLENCE is one of those books cursed by its release date. I am eager to put into practice so much of what author Henrik Fexeus recommends--just as soon as we are able to interact face-to-face with one another again.

Fexeus breaks down in an easy-to-read style, how to improve our social and conversational interactions. Unfortunately--for shy people like me--he doesn't offer much advice on overcoming shyness. He's more focused on improving social skills, not developing them.

He decries how isolated we all have become due to social media, texting, etc.--sadder still in 2020 than when he wrote those words.

Although I did read this book from cover to cover, it will be more valuable to go back and reread pertinent sections as needed. I, for one, will never again take for granted the opportunity to talk to a stranger in person. #TheArtOfSocialExcellence #NetGalley

I received a copy of this book through the Amazon Vine program in exchange for an honest review.

This book was around 3.5 stars for me.

The author has a lot to say and provides a lot of research. Fexeus is opinionated and shares what he thinks is the best way to communicate with people. One of the strangest parts of the book to me is instead of being gender neutral with language Fexeus assigns he or she pronouns to various characters or roles and then uses them throughout the book. He could have used a simple they throughout the book that wouldn't have me rereading thinking I m

I don't know why I put this on reserve. It must have been one of those things I read about somewhere, like "Top Non Fiction Titles next month!" or something.

So, I listened to the audiobook and it was fine. If you've never read a book like this before it's a perfectly fine book to listen to. If you have read a book like this before, there's nothing new. Fexeus drones on a bit sometimes.

Overall, a perfectly fine book.

This is a great book to hone one’s communication skills. These easy tips can be applied throughout home and work life. I enjoyed reading about the importance of nonverbal communication. I do wish the book had some visuals like charts or graphs to break up all the text.

Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review!

While I can’t say that this book has changed the way I interact with people, it is definitely an interesting read and I wrote down some ideas that I want to implement. I would recommend it to anyone. It’s easy to read and quite funny.
