Abby McAdams can’t sleep. She keeps having nightmares about her grandmother. Cuddling up beside her friend, Riley, helps to ease some of the fears. Well, cuddling and the candy she keeps hidden around his apartment. She can’t help but feel an attraction to Riley too, but they are just friends…right?
Riley has his own past that haunts him, but she thinks he might want to get to know Abby on a deeper level too. As they fight their own desires to be together, the past comes back to slap them in the face. When they finally give in to their lustful cravings, will their love be enough to erase their pasts or will it be just another broken heart for both of them?
“Lakeshore Candy” is the fourth in the “By The Lake” series, about the McAdams sisters, from author Shannyn Leah.
This book can be read as a stand alone, but for more enjoyment read them in the order of the series, as all the characters appear in future books.

USA TODAY Bestselling romance author Shannyn Leah loves olives, lip gloss and reading (and writing) romance novels.
Her love of words started at an early age and soon grew until, during her teenage years, she’d started writing her own novels. When her mom pushed to finally publish some of the stories, she quickly amassed a collection of romance series.
I was fortunate enough for the Author to provide me with a copy of Candy love. That is exactly what this book is like. It is like a huge bowl of candy wrapped up in cellophane. This couple crackles with electricity and they are deliciously sweet.
We get to know Abby in a way that we had not before. The hard partying girl that broke when her grandmother died actually has been depending on Riley Boyd to help her through. Riley has been quietly supporting her as a good friend should through nightmares and loneliness.
Riley starts to see her in a new way after being there for her after her grandmother passed away and he doesn't want to ruin this friendship with lusty thoughts and actions. He resists, man does he resist. When you are tempted by a candy addict it is harder to say no to your own desires. Then it seems that Abby has a few lusty thoughts of her own. This story has pain and secrets that have to be dealt with if Abby and Riley have a chance at happiness. Secrets that he does not want to divulge to her.
The McAdams' sisters are all accounted for in this book and once again, it is a pleasure to see how they are getting on in their own lives. Abby is the baby of the family, so she has all of these sisters behind her. She also has a twin brother, Avery. He has been missing through all the other books, but makes a surprise appearance in Candy Love. It is good to meet him and see what he has been up to. I hope there is more to his story in future books. He looks like he could be trouble.
This fourth book does not disappoint, I loved it as I have all the previous books and still thirst for more stories about this family.
Abby is the wild child of the McAdams sister. Outspoken, sexually spontaneous, a live by the second girl. But every person as a dark secret and for Abby it is her dreams of her Gran that haunt her when she closes her eyes.
Lucky for her she has her friend Riley lean on, a couch she can sleep on when needed. After two years of being friends she finds herself becoming more attracted to Riley than just a friend.
Riley doesn't know why he is friends with Abby. She's wild and reckless and he's had many of a nights dragging her out of the bar passed out. As time passes, he begins to look at Abby as more than just a friend and he is not sure if it is lust or something else.
If you’re following this series in order we are now getting Abby’s story, who I really had the wrong impression of from the previous books. I always liked her rebellious streak but this just gets into all layers of Abby. These are all standalones and can be enjoyed in any order but, I would recommend starting from book one cause of how the characters kinda bleed each other.
Abby has been having a very hard time since her grandmothers death but Riley is determined to help her every step of the way, he truly becomes somewhat of a anchor for her. They become each other’s safe place but, both are nervous about what taking there friendship to the next level could mean.
This is such a sweet & funny series and I’m happy that I found out about Shannyn Leah.
Lakeshore Candy has its secrets like the first 3 books. This book was an easy read. There were lots of steaminess, romance, humor and tears to be shed. Most definite a must read. I'm not sure which McAdam's sisters story I like the most in this series. I think Lakeshore Candy was the steamiest of all the books. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series, Lakeshore Lyrics.
I loved this book. This book and indeed this series is why I like Romance Novels. At least I like this type of Romance Novel. I prefer to call these types of stories and books Human Interest Novels. They are not only about the romantic lovers which in the case of this book is Abby and Riley; but also the love of family, Mothers, Fathers, Grandmothers, Grandfathers, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and pets. I love these types of books. To me one of the most important themes in the Willow Valley series and in this volume is the love the McAdams sisters have for one another. Sure sometimes they get on each others nerves from time to time; but when the rubber meets the road they know they have each others backs. This is especially poignant in this particular book of the series.
Abby has just run out on Riley not because she doesn't love him; but because she does. She feels that she is holding him back that somehow he might resent her sometime in the future. She feels that she has done this for him. However it is breaking her heart.
At first she feels that she wants to be alone; but really she doesn't want to be alone. She wants to be around the ones she knows she can count on when all else fails. She wants to be with her sisters. The following paragraph is particularly moving, "Normally, she would remind herself of the pitiful looks that would follow from her sisters. Right now, she didn't care if the pitiful looks never ended--they were worth the comfort, the love. Kate's warm and compassionate smile was like a security blanket." This whole chapter to me is particularly moving.
And, could Abby have a more loving and true friend than Izzy Caliendo? I don't think so. The love that Abby and Izzy share is ever bit as strong as is Abby's love for her sisters and for Riley. Several times through this book and indeed in some of the previous volumes in this series Izzy demonstrates her devotion to Abby. Even when Abby would push her way Izzy stands strong in support of her friend Abby. That's the kind of friend that anyone would want. Izzy doesn't only tell Abby what she wants to hear, she tells her what she needs to hear, and she is more than willing to confront anyone who hurts Abby whether intended or not.
Izzy personally goes to confront Riley and his sister Cece. "His office door burst open. 'You stupid ass.' ... Macy popped her head in to make sure everything was good. 'Sorry Riley...she pushed her way in.' He slanted a look at Izzy. 'Pushed?' "More like kicked. She's being generous." Izzy .... turned to his sister. 'Why don't you start talking.'" .... "Izzy waited while Cece gave a quick version then stared between them. 'What the hell are we still doing here? Let's go get Abby.'" Now that is the kind of friend that everyone wants and needs. A friend that will go to the mat with you.
Having read the other books in this series, I wasn't exactly sure I wanted to read Abby's story. Out of all the McAdams sisters she was the one I was least interested in. However, I'm really glad I read this one. Abby definitely has some issues, one of which is her fear of abandonment which was touched on briefly in the other books. But if you haven't read the other books in this series, this one can be read as a stand alone. Anyway, Riley and Abby both have plenty of their own issues that they each need to overcome. But it is not until they are together that either one of them wants to put effort into working on those issues. Riley is just the person Abby needs to balance out her fears while Abby is able to show Riley what it means to live again.
All in all, another great entry in the series and I look forward to seeing what is going on with Avery next!
Lakeshore Candy is the fourth book in the McAdams sister series. You have to read this series in order. This book is the must emotional one yet. Well for me it was.
OMG! Riley & Abby's story was everything and more. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster ride. Jeez I was so emotional reading this story. I was always intrigued by Abby from the first book. I love her personality. Riley & Abby are a swoon worthy couple. I definitely want to see more of them. They are my favorite. I am looking forward to Lakeshore Lyrics. Avery is such a mystery.
An emotional journey to find forgiveness and love. Riley is a man hiding from his past. For years he has had a friendship with Abby, who has managed to work her way through his defences to take a permanent place in his heart. Their chemistry is so intense, it is only a matter of time before their relationship changes from friends to lovers. When Riley’s past catches up to them, will it make them stronger or tear them apart? A heart warming story of courage, forgiveness and love.
This is part of a series, you may want to read all the other books first so you can know all the characters before reading this one. I really enjoyed this book. The author knows how to keep you hooked and focused in this story.
Abby is the younger sister in the family and she was the closest to their Gran. She took Gran's passing the hardest and hasn't been the same since. She loves all her sisters but sometimes she just needs to get away from them. She needs to focus on the soap shop and make new scents for the soap. Abby meets Riley and just forms this instant bond with him. She cherishes the friendship that they have and he's been there for her. She starts to feel things for Riley even thou she doesn't know what they are but she can't forget the strong attraction she has for him.
Riley has a past that he can't forget nor forgive himself for. Riley moves to Willow Valley to try and forget his past. He has a reason as to why he went and lived with Mrs. C but nobody needs to know why. When he meets Abby he doesn't understand her and rather not be around her. When he sees how bad her Gran's passing is - he steps in and helps her. Riley ignores the "dirty" thoughts going thru his head and focuses on just being there for Abby.
Abby and Riley will take you on their journey and it's a bumpy one. The chemistry between the two is strong and steamy. The way both of them come together and support each other will show what love does for them. Can they survive after all secrets and other things are revealed?
Great job to the author on another amazing book. I highly recommend.
Lakeshore Candy by Shannyn Leah is a wickedly good read. Ms Leah is a master at writing amazing characters. Abby and Riley's story is no exception. Lakeshore Candy twists and turns through the drama of Riley's past and Abby's fear of being left alone, but it's done with humor and flair. There are some steamy sex scenes in this book, so if you don't like sex in the books you read, you may not like this. Or you could skim past that part and still enjoy the story. I enjoyed Lakeshore Candy and look forward to reading more from the talented Shannyn Leah in the future. Lakeshore Candy is book 4 in the McAdams Sisters Series but can be read as a standalone. I'm glad to be reading them in order though, so I don't miss out on any of the fun. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I received a copy of this book for review purposes.
** A free copy of the book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. **
Favorite book of the series so far. Loved the evolution of "Riley" to acknowledge and admit his insecurities to those that he felt he hurt the most. I really enjoyed that he was willing to "fall on the sword" and that he blamed no one and nothing but himself for his actions. It was very easy to fall in lust, and subsequently love, with this character.
OK Ms. Leah….you keep getting better and better. This story was just wonderful. I love how with each book you talk about the characters from all the books. It feels like I’m keeping up with family. It’s just wonderful. Once again I was laughing and crying. I am totally in love with this series. Abby and Riley are just fun.
This book has everything you’re looking for. And the sex is hot and steamy….fall in love and read about these marvelous sisters!
So we finally get to see the not so confident, party girl in Abby. Her heartbreak and fears are so real. I loved her the most out of the sisters. Riley and his guilt. Wow that was a lot of guilt. Loved how Mrs. C AND Abby help him with discovery that he was not to blame. I loved this story and have to say it has been my favorite of this series so far. Can not wait to read Avery's story next.
I LOVED Abby and Riley's story!!! It is my favorite book in this series so far!!! Abby is wild and Riley id quiet and mysterious...is he a bad boy like Abby wants him to be? Or is there much more to him? I LOVED IT!!!! Then we get introduced to Avery (Abby's twin brother) and he is a musician!!! Next book here I come!
This book is awesome because while she is struggling with her grandmother's passing she lives for her go to food CANDY!!! As she finds comfort in candy she is also finding comfort in Riley and before Riley knows it there is candy in the most unusual places in his home which makes him happy and bonds them even closer
Love this story. Abby and Riley lived up to their story. I laughed and cried. A very moving story. I had to remember these are fictional characters. Lol...
Holy crap, Shannyn Leah’s books get better with each outing, and I am addicted to her small town series as well as the McAdams siblings.
This time it is Abbey’s turn, one of the youngest siblings along with her twin brother Avery, who’s story is next. She’s broken and lost. The death of her grandmother was the last straw, and even surrounded by a family of sisters with whom she is setting up the soap business she did as a hobby with her Gran, she feels alone.
Riley Boyd had once been restless and free spirited, just like Abbey is now. Whatever life he’d walked away from, and whatever had happened, he’s blamed himself for it, meaning he’s no longer participating in life. He doesn’t even own a cell phone, nothing that connects him to the past life he’d built, or the people in it. It’s a past that he won’t talk about, and only Mrs C seems to know anything about him. She knows about tragedy, having suffered the loss of her daughter and granddaughter in an accident a couple of years back. And she is a beautiful person for Riley to have in his life.
One thing Abbey does know, is that Riley has been the supportive friend that she’s run to when she needs it, and who’s sofa she’s sleeping on when she doesn’t want to be in her Gran’s house by herself. He’s also gorgeous and sexy, and even if she was attracted to him (and how could she not be???), Riley has her firmly in the friend zone. But that friend zone also seems to include heated stares.
Lakeshore Candy takes us behind the energised persona that Abbey projects to her sisters and gives us an insight into just how close she was to her grandmother. A well written continuation in this addictive series. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book. 4.5 Stars.
Abby McAdams and her twin Avery were the youngest of the McAdams siblings. Abby did not take her grandmother passing away very well. Riley Boyd, who has been living in Willow Valley and working in the bakery for the woman who had been Abby's grandmother's best friend Mrs. C, has been protecting Abby and always there for her. They had become best friends, but now they were both having stronger feelings for each other. Riley has a big secret he hasn't told Abby. Because of Riley's secret, he doesn't feel like he should be happy or a permanent part of Abby's life. Mrs. C knows Riley's secret and can see that Riley and Abby are falling in love so she encourages Riley to tell Abby about his past.
This is such a good book. Abby acts so strong and like a wild child when she really is like a scared child at times. She is trying to find her place in the family. Riley and Abby are so good together and give each other strength. Riley's secret is big and pieces of the secret have a big impact on Riley And Abby's relationship. There were times I cried in the book and others when I laughed. I loved that I read the books in order as I got to know the sisters better and keep up with their lives. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of this book and voluntarily read it and reviewed the book.
Abby McAdams is the confident, sexy, party-going sister, or so she wants everyone to think. She's having a tough time accepting her grandmothers death & the return of her sisters to town. She feels like she's losing her mind. Thank goodness for her best friend Riley Boyd! He's been there for her whenever she needs someone. Why is she starting to notice how sexy he is? She can't ruin this friendship!
Riley Boyd has come to Willow Valley out of guilt. He's ran away from his family, job & home. He doesn't talk to anyone about his history. He found a job working for a bakery & is surprised how good he is at it. Abby McAdams is driving him crazy! They have a great friendship developing but he can't help noticing how sexy she is. He has to keep fighting these feelings or it'll ruin their friendship.
Shannyn Leah has given her readers another emotional story. The characters need to fight through their grief & learn to go on. Abby tries to hide her grief as if nothing has happened. Riley wallows in his feelings of guilt & grief. The way these two take on their journey with each other & for each other is incredible. Can Abby deal with it when Riley's past comes back to haunt him or will she turn away.? I loved the updates on the characters from previous books but feel these stories could be easily read as stand alone books.
Lakeshore Candy is the 4th book in the McAdams Sister.
This is Abby's story. In the previous books in the series Abby comes across as flightly, a partier. Doesn't take life too seriously. I always got the impression there was more to Abby than what we see. That she had hidden layers. Riley is the one person who actually 'sees' her. I think it's because he has hidden layers too. He doesn't talk about his past. Riley grounds Abby. He doesn't try to control her or change her. Abby has re-occuring nightmares about her grandma.
The more time they spend together the more their sexual attraction builds. Both are afraid if they give in and act on their feelings that they will ruin their friendship. Through each other they they become strong individuals. Thanks to the advise from Mrs. C Riley knows he has to face his past so he can have a future.
Now these two have to compromise for a possible amazing future together.
I love a series that gets better with each book and in each book we reconnect with all the characters from previous books.
I love Abby and Riley. Though, so far I'm not too impressed with Riley's sister, Cece but I get the feeling there's more to her too.
Abby is the wildest, most outgoing, and youngest of the McAdams sisters. Riley has the appearance of a bad boy who mostly keeps to himself. Both of them are dealing with guilt for things that aren't their fault, using each other to heal and move on.
I loved the friendship Riley and Abby have. While it seems unlikely to outsiders, they're more alike than their friends and family realize. Abby feels like she can confide in Riley more than her sisters because they'll feel sorry for her, while Riley more than understands her feelings.
I didn't like Riley's sister, Cece, and the way she treated Abby. I kept waiting for Abby to stand up for herself but she never really does so. I was glad to see Izzy, Abby's best friend, throw Cece's bad attitude back at her.
While this can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the previous books for two reasons: one, it will help readers understand the relationship between the sisters and, two, because they're all good books.
**I voluntarily read a copy in exchange for an honest review**
This is the 4th book in the Lakeshore series and is as good as the others. In this book, the story concentrates on the wild sister, Abby. Each of the sisters have totally different personalities and Abby just seems like the fun rebel of the family. This book can be read as a stand alone but I highly recommend reading all of the first three so it will give you much more of an understanding of dynamics of the family.
After her grandmother passed away, Abby stays in her house but also wakes up with nightmares. She had become friends with Riley who works next door at the bakery with his apartment above it. Abby counts on Riley as a true good friend who helps her and makes her feel safe. She often sleeps there cuddled up to Riley to get comfort after the nightmares They have been friends but their lustful feelings are getting stronger and stronger. With Abby and her feelings that Grandma is trying to tell her something and with Riley’s pass, which is unknown, they both decide to try to make something of their feelings and become more than just friends.
Abby McAdams has been a favourite character of mine since reading the Caliendo and Lake shore Series. And this is her book. And boy is it!
Her story is finally given. Just like Abby herself, it's a strong independent book filled with emotion. I love that her relationship with Gran, Avery, Riley and Mrs Calvert are all expanded on.
It's a book that makes you review your own relationships and maybe brings back some youthful nostalgia.
Although a standalone book, it's best read in order as you'll learn about other characters whose stories come before hers.
I can't give this a 5 star due to editing which in parts is ridiculously obvious that it ruins the story effect whereby the wrong words or references or timelines cause you to stop and question - who is that? When was that? And thus stops the reader from indulging wholely into the story
I absolutely loved this book, ok let’s face it, I love this entire series but this book is my favourite. Abby has had a place in my heart from the beginning. This is what romance stories should be made of, at least this type of romance stories. This series is not only about finding your one love but it is also family, in this case the McAdams sisters and what they mean to each other and what they will do for each other.
Abby has had a rough time and she definitely has some issues but there has always been one constant in her life and that is Riley, but what does he mean to her? Does he see her in the same light? What is he hiding from his past?
I strongly suggest you start this series from the beginning so you have each and every person's back stories and the world in which they live.
Sassy and the rebel of the family, Abby lives her life according to her rules. Soft spoken and an emotional recluse, Riley is running away from his past. What starts out as friendship and support turns into explosive sparks as the unlikely pair continue to lean on each other. But when Rileys past comes out will Abby be able to handle the secrets and lies or will she break away from her tendency to run away and make the relationship work? The underlying strength of these characters is what makes this installment of this series stand out from the others. With all of the ups and downs throughout the storyline the reader just has to hold on for the ride. This story had me laughing on one page and crying on the next. An emotional journey that I highly recommend.
I really love Abby and Riley's story. When Gram died Abby was lost and Riley stepped up to help. He recognized a kindred spirit, after all he had been in her shoes and knew she just needed a friend. This was so much fun. She is a riot and he, well he just can't let her down, she stirs something in him that he never thought would happen. They get each other, and as they do their friendship grows into more. The dance these two do makes for good reading.
This family just cracks me up. They have their drama and pour Avery as the only boy I just feel for him and can't wait for his story next. Their stories are fun and relatable and yes emotional. Love this author's style.
I was so excited for Abby’s book and it definitely did not disappoint. Riley was Abby’s constant after her grandmother’s death. So why after all this time is she be having feelings for her best friend. Riley has a last he’s not proud of and needs time to himself. Abby has managed to knock down all of his walls over the course of the last few years and suddenly he has fond himself having feelings for his best friend. If they act act on their feelings will their friendship change? The chemistry that Riley and Abby have once they admit their feelings for each other is scorching hot. Lakeshore Candy is a fun romance full of sass and emotion. I absolutely loved this book!
When Abby was really hurting missing her Grams Riley was the one who talked her down and when Riley started to have a blame day Abby talked him out of it. Riley helps Mrs C at the bakery and he lives just above it but Abby doesn’t know much about him but she knows she likes him and it scares her. When Riley and Abby decide to take the relationship a step further it causes all kinds of controversy and secrets are reveled. This story centers around Abby but involves all the Mc Adams sisters and even Abby’s twin Avery. I have loved Abby’s character from the start as she is strong willed and brave but loving too. I requested this book for free from the author and I have elected to review it
Loved it! This is Abby's story and it really changed my view of her. This book really went deep into Abby and gave her a lot of depth instead of just being the wild child baby sister. I loved the interaction between her and Riley and how they both were so hesitant to venture past the "friends" stage. We really learned a lot more about the whole McAdams family in this book. This can be read as a standalone but you will really enjoy it more if you start at the beginning and read the whole series. You won't be sorry! But get your tissues ready because you will need them.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I think Abby might be my spirit animal. Aside from some of the more sullen moments of course. Her stashes of candy hidden around the house, thanks to her Gran always giving her a hard time about it. You start to see the full scope of her grief in this book, after the loss of her Gran and her relationship with Riley. Which starts off with a friendship. Both grieving different losses, so neither feel ready for anything meaningful but teasing each other anyways. Finding a way to heal, is the only way they can find their way together. Riley's story is so deep and painful but seeing his transformation and growth was nice.
