SUMMER PRESCOTT BOOKS is thrilled to present: Battered and Buttered Waffle - Book 2 in the Diner of the Dead Series!!!!
Owning a diner in the small town of Haunted Falls has been a bit of a hair-raising experience for Sonja, and things go from bad to worse when a reality TV film crew comes to town. Wanting nothing more than to create her crisp, buttery waffles, Sonja find herself caught up once again in a murder investigation that leads to some decidedly “otherworldly” experiences.
The 2nd book in this series was fun, cute and entertaining. A fast read but it did leave me a little bit disappointed. I expected a bit more of this story - it seems a bit too simple for my taste.
Kindle Unlimited, takes forever to get the actual story started, and not even because setting up needed backdrop information, just sluggishly slow and boring, full of one dimensional cardboard characters and plots. All the detail seems to be saved for the parts that matter the least to the actual story. Unbelievable situations and gotten in to by cardboard characters with equally unbelievable although you saw it coming a mile away 'solutions' along with ridiculously fake 'relationship' tensions.
By the way, when you have a baby as a character, at least decide and stick to whether it's a boy or a girl, and not change it in various sentences from her to him. Also useless made up drama, it adds nothing to a story, except my distaste for it. Blah blah blah, akin to the sound of the adults in a snoopy video. By the way again, few other points; plastic does not melt 'on contact' when thrown even in to a fireplace, the person in the photo is not the person in the photo uh huh, cheap cameraman is also besides the point unless meant cheap camera and it's not much of a point, Why would a place in a book series titled diner of the dead be decorated in 50's style, and gouda waffles uh yuck and I like smoked gouda but it would not go good in a waffle and even worse in crepe type and would be pretty bland and even more bland as a crumbled topping as unlike the description claims it is neither savory nor sweet but smoky, along with more blah blah useless filler crap, and someone can't make a crepe in a regular waffle iron anyway one uses a crepe maker which the writer would know if she had done any actual research for a restaurant which supposedly serves waffles and seemingly some type of crepes. Somebody waiting tables would not be messing with garbage even if bagged up, and on and on, though 10 mind yet painfully numbing useless 'books' all the cookie cutter ridiculously pathetically the same.
Would like to extend my congratulation to the 'writer' of this mess, as before now have never given a 1 to well whatever genre this mess is supposed to have been, saving the 1's for very bad sci-fi romances that are bad excuses for printing crap. For a 'writer' who supposedly has not only a degree but a BA in English, so not able to tell that nor the supposed creative writing credentials claimed, and which obviously did not include anything on how to research anything at all.How can someone who has been away from the town for years still be involved or linked in just about every possible way to every possible case, and how many cases could there even reasonably be in that small of a town.
Listing a Never Read this Crap list of the 10 'books' in The Diner of the Dead Series The Wicked Waffle: Book 1 - Battered and Buttered Waffle: Book 2 Sinister Strawberry Waffle: Book 3 - The Wayward Waffle: Book 4 - Pumpkin Pie Waffle: Book - Turkey and Terror: Book 6 - Creepy Christmas Waffle: Book 7- Birthday Cake Waffle: Book 8 - Spooky Sweetheart Waffle: Book 9 - Eerie Irish Waffle Book 10
Ok so I can only give this book 4 stars. Not because its a bad book but because I was hoping to get a little more information about Sonja's father at the end like we did in book 1. In book 4, Sonja has just opened The Waffle and a group of young ghost hunters have come to Haunted Falls to look for ghosts in the diner as well as in a bar where someone committed suicide. While Sonja was bringing out some waffles and ice cream to the farmer something she would never expect happened that night.
What started out being a perfect day for Sonja with the diner, and also introducing her Gouda waffles, turned into a nightmare that you couldn't even dream of. The town Sheriff wants Sonja to stay away from this case, she just can't help but to get involved, especially when she thinks she feels that she saw the victim after he died.
I really do like this book because Sonja is a young woman who is stubborn and like to take matters in her own hands. Even thought she does not listen to what the authorities have to say, she respects their wishes. I can't wait to read book 3 and see if Sonja will put herself out there and possible go on a date, or will she just focus on work. I also can't wait to figure out what is up the fathers sleeve.
This is the second book in the Diner of the Dead series and it's better than the last II also thought the first one was well done). A reality TV show unexpectedly shows up on Sonja's opening day of The Waffle. Sonja manages to throw the crew out of her diner only to learn they're causing trouble with one of Haunted Falls residents. Sonja soon finds herself swept up in another murder invetstigation.
I really enjoy this series. I like the characters and the "otherworldly" presence. The author does a wonderful job of creating a scene that leaves you on the edge of your seat wanting more. I look forward to reading more in this series!
I received a copy of this manuscript from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This 2nd installment of the Diner of the Dead series was a ton of fun and very entertaining! I must start by saying I am super interested in trying a Gouda cheese and chocolate waffle, that is mentioned in the book. Haunted Falls resident and diner owner, Sonja and a bunch of ghost hunter reality show stars have to stay overnight at a farm and one of them gets killed. So, Sonja is once again wrapped up in a mysterious death and does a little sleuthing. There is a little spooky twist at the end. This is a fun mystery for those that like culinary/paranormal cozies! The publisher provided me with a complimentary ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
“Battered and Buttered Waffle”, second in the 'Diner of the Dead' sees diner owner Sonja Reed investigating a second murder in Haunted Fall, Colorado. She's only just returned after a year in New York but bodies seem to pile up around her – she's a regular Jonah. A pushy TV ghost show crew try to film in her diner and she shows them the door in no uncertain terms. She overhears that they plan on doing the same thing to an elderly farmer – not if she can help it. Later, she finds them trespassing at the farm, calls the police, and once the Sheriff arrives it turns out that flash flooding has taken down the bridge leading into the property. Sonja, Sheriff Thompson, the TV crew and the farmer will have to spend the night on the farm – but how many of them will survive? As in the first book there is a clue as to the identity of the murdered (in fact it should be the end of the story - but it isn't.) Essentially this is an extended short story. Overall, while quite readable, it is a lazy piece of writing. 2 Stars.
Another good read. Had me fooled. The characters are evolving and becoming clearer lending more realism to the read. Opening day at the diner is overshadowed when a ghost hunting tv crew turn up and refuse to leave. Their spokesman is arrogant and confident that he can get what he wants. It is only the arrival of the sheriff that gets him to go. At least that's what she thinks until she goes out back to take out the garbage. They are now planning to film at an old barn that is one the property of an old timer. Add in another row, a storm, an assault, a murder and a young girl arrested. Can she get together the clues to work out who killed the arrogant presenter before a young girl is charged? But how to get a confession? A bit of stage magic or a ghostly interception?
This is the second book in the series. The main character is Sonja and it is the grand opening of the diner Waffles. The diner is jammed and everyone is enjoying their meals when in comes Spook. He is part of a reality series that deals with finding ghosts. Since there had been a dead body found there, they showed up. They are jamming the mike in people's faces and asking if they felt a ghostly presences. Sonja tells them and tells them to leave when the Sheriff shows up and forces them to leave. Now they are heading for an old friend of Sonja's to film in his barn. They never ask if they can, they just show up and hope they can get what they need. Sonja shows up and helps her old friend get rid of them but they came back. Get Sonja figure out what is going on and who is behind it before it's too late ?
Very quick fun 2nd installment of a very wonderful series set in a Diner. There is some elements of the supernatural at work here but other then that it is a lot of fun to see what trouble Sonja Reed finds herself in. This one has a television crew showing up at the diner to film a ghost segment for their reality TV series. They receive word that the diner is haunted by the spirit of a murdered victim. The film crew is kicked out by the Sheriff. They then end up at the farm of a local farmer a friend of Sonja's family claiming their is a ghost in the barn. There of course is a murder.
I should just make a note at the top of my blog stating “No I wasn’t surprised when the murder was revealed and yes I saw it coming from a mile away.” This wasn’t a complicated murder mystery, however, I did like how they tied together the past and the present together. With Sonja digging into the past it allowed us a brief glimpse into the past of Haunted Falls. I also liked how, though Sonja’s sleuthing did put her in danger, she didn’t let herself do anything too dangerous.
A fun little mystery that can be solved by anyone who pays attention. A ghostbuster show comes to town and disrupts The Waffle. Lead by a man called Spirit, they invade opening day and get kicked out. Later they go to a local farm. As events develop there ensues what could best be described as a dark house mystery. Isolated due to a bridge being washed out and a murder on their hands, can the killer be found in time? A nice little story.
Well written, but if you pay attention you will get all of the clues. I liked the story, but if Sonja wants to run her diner, her behind needs to stay at the diner.
I liked this book a lot. Paranormal investigators go to the diner and upset customers they get thrown out then there's a murder and a bit of a mystery. A nice cozy paranormal mystery.
I love this series! The characters are fun and exciting. The storyline just keeps getting better and better. The spooky storyline has me hooked. Not only do the waffles sound amazing the mystery is delicious too. Sonja is preparing for the opening of the Waffle Diner and Eatery when some uninvited guests arrive. The Spook Show crew begin filming and Sonja is furious! The head guy, Spook was very rude to Sonja and that was just not going to fly. They were told to leave and end up at Mr Hinkley's farm to shoot the barn. Apparently it's a hot bed for paranormal happenings. Sonja tries to warn Mr Hinkley but she is too late. They all end up staying the night at the farmhouse because the road gets washed out. This just goes from bad to worse when one of the crew is found dead. There are a ton of twists that will have you on your toes. This is an amazing culinary/ paranormal cozy that will have you hooked from the start.
Wonderful followup to a new series debut! Sonja is back and the opening day has arrived for the Diner. Publicity would be great but the Diner or Sonja has seemingly attracted the wrong kind of publicity. An abrasive and pushy ghost hunter shows up and starts filming as he and his crew descend on the diner and the unsuspecting patrons. Sonja and the sheriff both end up dealing with this crew as they try to get them to play by the rules but you know this is a cozy and someone is going to get what is coming to them. This book is fun and exciting and the waffles make me hungry. I love how Carolyn Q. Hunter has great characters and a good story. I felt like I was there as each scene was described. Hopefully, the crew that are left just may re-appear in a future installment in the Diner of the Dead Series. I am really looking forward to the 3rd book.
It’s the grand opening of Sonya’s new restaurant and it’s going less than smooth thanks to a reality TV film crew. Things go from bad to worse when the film crew bothers an elderly family friend and Sonya works to protect him. An unexpected event occurs trapping her with the group of strangers, her family friend and the sheriff. One of them commits murder overnight and Sonya takes it upon herself to solve the crime. I enjoyed this edition of the The Diner of the Dead series as much as the first. The reference to one of my favorite episodes of The Andy Griffith Show was a great way to start the story. We continue to learn more about our lead character and the supporting characters. The storyline moves at a nice pace. I am eager to read book 3.
An obnoxious ghost hunter, wannabe comes to Haunted Falls in search of ratings for their TV show. Sonja will have none of it, and trys to warn the nearby farmer, who loves his solitude, that they plan to film at his barn (is there a ghost here?). Things turn ugly, and someone dies, putting another ghost out there. Benjamin is one of the nicer of the group and he and Sonja share "sparks". Is there a future for them out there, a good continuing story. (?) Then there is the sheriff, does he have eyes for Sonja, more to come. Great reading.
This book was a great improvement over the first one. Ms Hunters characters are coming to life and the setting are more descriptive. Though I know she wants her character to build Dr sleuthing skills, I believe she needs a little more balance between her sleuthing and her new business. Good thing she has such hard-working reliable friends or her business would never survive. Other than this I saw great improvement from the first one. Looking forward to her next one to see how much more her characters have developed.
I read this book as part of a free book for an honest review program. It is the second of the series. I had read about 30% of this book and stopped. I liked it so much that I bought the first book and read it through before going back and finishing this one. If you like your cozies with psycics and ghosts this is the series for you! I loved the characters, the story line, even the villains!!!
Once again Carolyn has made me happy. This is a paranormal without long drawn out details. Just enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a fun light hearted read that keeps you engrossed until the end. I read it in one sitting. I gotta say, I was upset when it was over, lol. I am waiting anxiously for the next in the series! If you haven't started this series, please do. You will thoroughly enjoy it!
Disclosure: I received this book free of charge from the publisher. This review is my honest opinion, and is in no way influenced by the author or publisher.
I really enjoyed this one. I love the storyline and the characters. I hope there will be many more to come.
Another fun read in the Diner of the Dead series. Ms. Hunter has again given us quirky characters and a spooky mystery to solve. The waffles are sweet but the book is sweeter. If you haven't already read this book I highly recommend it. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series
When you live in a town named Haunted Falls ghosts and ghost hunters are bound to come in droves, but when thE ghost hunter becomes the ghost you never know what might happen next. Love Sonja and Allison and Haunted Falls. Thanks for another great one Carolyn Hunter
The paranormal continues. On the day of the grand opening of Sonja's diner, Waffle, in the town of Haunted Falls, a reality TV crew shows up and bursts in on the fun. I have to admit to having goosebumps a time or two in the reading of this book. This author is good!
**I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review**
A great addition to this series. It was so much fun to read, and I loved how there was more paranormal this time. I thought I had the murder all figured out, but I did not see that ending coming at all.
I gave this book 4 stars. I enjoyed the surprises in the story. The characters are fun and they remind me of some friends and family. This book kept me on my toes. I love this series.
