So good! I enjoyed reading this from start to finish. Both main and supporting characters, especially the twins—Mike and Leo, were very likable. Sherrilyn Kenyon’s effortlessly excellent writing is one of the reasons I love reading her books.

This story took place in Atlanta where Dante Pontis, a Katagaria Were-Panther, and his three brothers went to meet up with Acheron. While they were at Dragon*Con, looking for new alternative bands for the gigs in his club in Minnesota, they all suddenly smelled a virgin pantheress in heat. Every animal instinct in Dante’s human body told him to go after her, but he had to get himself under control. He didn’t want a mate, not to mention a pantheress one. So, instead of tracking her down, he tried to maintain his urge to copulate with her as best he could.

Pandora Kouti, a virgin Arcadian Were-Pantheress, was kidnapped from the future by a group of Katagaria panthers. In order to get back home, she needed to find Acheron, an immortal Atlantean who could send her back to her time period. As she went looking for this man, she saw Dante and his brothers and that enough to make her stop dead in her tracks. She knew immediately that they were Were-Panthers like her and she couldn’t risk them seeing her, especially not now when she was in heat. If one of them came near her, it would be impossible for her not to let him mate with her. Then she ran to hide.

Both Dante and Pandora wanted nothing more than to stay as far away from each other as they possibly could. But fate always has its own way of throwing something unexpected at people. So, how could they fight the inevitable?

I can tell you right now that this was such a great read I didn’t want it to end. Dante and Pandora were wonderful together and the explosive chemistry between them was unmistakable. This short story’s gripping plot and sensual romance absolutely hit the mark for me.

My only complaint is that there was not enough of ‘Acheron’ in this book. I know, I know, this was Dante and Pandora’s story, but hey, a girl can dream! I can’t ever get enough of this man! But well, please note that it was just a minor problem. I loved this book nonetheless.

If you’re a fan of Dark-Hunter: Were-Hunter series, then Winter Born is a must read for you!

This was an adult paranormal romance featuring werepanthers.

I liked Pandora and Dante, and both fought for what they wanted.

The storyline in this took place at a science fiction convention, and Acheron was in it too! The romance between Pandora and Dante was really sweet, and it was nice that Dante wasn’t what Pandora expected at all.

The ending to this was good, and this was a nice short story overall.

Pandora (Arcadian were-hunter PANTHER) and Dante (Katagaria were-hunter PANTHER)

I just love stories with fated mates who both try to resist unsuccessfully the mating.

Pandora comes from the future. She was brought to the present by a group of were-panthers in order to be used by them. When she manages to escape, she cannot go back home. So, she visits a DragonCon science finction convection in order to find Acheron and ask for his help. She does not find Acheron straight away, but she discovers a very sexy were-panther and his three brothers.

Dante was invited at the convection by Acheron (naughty matchmaker Acheron) and the last thing he expected was to find his mate there. He simply does not want to get mated. But when he smells Pandora, he cannot escape the Fates.

This is a really good story. Acheron and Simi steal the show.
And there is this science fiction convection full with sci-fi lovers, but also full with dark hunters, were hunters and true gods!
And with this very hungry cute demon who likes to shop non-stop and who eats almost everything with barbeque sauce.

Winter Born is the story of Dante Pontis and Pandora Kouti.

The blurb is pretty misleading...

“Two enemy Were-Panthers discover that fate has destined they become lovers.”
Pandora is Arcadian, Dante is Katagarian. And although their people are destined to be enemies of each other, the two of them are not exactly enemies, as they have never met before.
Pandora considers Katagaria animals, based on some incorrect information, and a group of Katagaria who has been terrorizing her community for ages.

“Pandora must learn to trust Dante's foreign nature.”
Dante rebuts some of her misunderstandings, says some sweet and reassuring things, and Pandora immediately changes her mind, and trusts him. Seriously, it takes her only a couple of hours.

“But as she slowly succumbs to the truest passion she has ever known…”
Slowly??? Please. They meet, have sex, then talk, and even before the sun begins to set, Pandora agrees to mating with him.

“…dark forces have already set out to reclaim her...“
Okay, that half of the sentence is actually correct.

It looks like Pandora is motivated by the amazing sex, and the safety Dante is willing to give to her. May the love come too one day. Hopefully.

All in all, the story is too hasty, with too much animalistic qualities of the characters. There were some great moments though, thanks to Ash and Simi (again).
The tall “demon” handed the man a credit card. “It’s broke again, akri,” she said, pouting around a pair of vampirelike fangs. “The man downstairs done said that the Simi can’t charge nothing else until I’m not over my limit no more. I don’t know what that means, but I don’t like it. Fix it, akri, or else I might eat him. The Simi gots needs and I needs my plastic to work.”
The man laughed as he took it from her and pulled out his wallet. He handed her three more credit cards.

Dante and Pandora's story is freaking Hawt!!

d

I was unable to get my hands on this book, so I skipped it and read all of the main books. I had heard of and met Dante in some of the previous books so I was beyond excited to finally read his novella.

I absolutely loved how Dante and Pandora met and fell in love at Dragon Con. This is a must read for all Dark Hunter fans. It does not add to the overall arc, but there was the Added bonus of Ash and the Simi eating BBQ. Great short shory and oh so hawt!!

Me encanto!!

Winter Born was another enjoyable story in the Dark-Hunter series. At only 75 pages, it is pretty short and very fast-paced. The whole story took place in just one day's time. As I've said many times before, I'm not usually a fan of instant hook-ups, but in this case it worked OK for me. That's because it all made sense within the context of the heroine being in heat and the way that the were-hunter mating rituals work. At least they did slow down a bit after the mating mark appeared and tried to get to know each other a little before making a lifetime commitment.

I liked Dante and Pandora as the hero and heroine. Dante is a Katagari panther who first appeared in Kiss of the Night as the owner of a nightclub that the hero and heroine of that book visit. He reminded me of Vane, the hero of Night Play, because he has a similar personality and similar views on his race. Dante is proud of his heritage but still disdains their violent mating practices and prefers to remain unmated, taking his pleasure with human females instead. When he catches the scent of a female panther in heat, his body and instincts won't allow him to ignore her. Pandora is an Arcadian panther from the future who was brought to the present against her will. She doesn't really have a pack anymore and was seeking Acheron's help to return home when Dante showed up at her door. Her own mating instincts wouldn't allow her to refuse him, but she's never heard anything good about the Katagaria, just that they are vicious beasts which makes her afraid of him. I loved how tender and gentle Dante was with Pandora which was another thing about him that reminded me of Vane.

The only carry-over Dark-Hunter characters who appear in this novella are Acheron and Simi. They have some amusing scenes as they peruse the Dragon-Con convention where the story is set, and as always, Ash is a scene-stealer. With the story being so brief, there wasn't a lot of time for relationship building, so I didn't feel the connection between Dante and Pandora quite as strongly as I would have liked. Otherwise though, I really enjoyed this novella, and look forward to continuing with the series. Winter Born falls between Night Play and Seize the Night in the ordering of the Dark-Hunter series. It can be found in the anthology Stroke of Midnight. There are currently a total of 19 full-length novels in the Dark-Hunter series and a number of related novellas and graphic novels as well, with more still to come. A complete list of all the books and their recommended reading order can be found on Sherrilyn Kenyon's website.

★★★★★ Winter Born by Sherrilyn Kenyon book 6.5 in Dark Hunter Series(also in Stoke of Midnight)

Another great Novella from the DH/WH series. This one takes place at Dragon*Con, in Atlanta. Four Katagaria Were-panther brothers, Dante, Romeo, Leo, and Mike are wandering around. Leo and Mike are young and trolling for women. Romeo is there control the twins, Leo and Mike.Dante was looking for new bands for his club. Dante is very temperamental and will kill anyone that upsets him. All of a sudden, they catch the scent of a virginal Were-panther, Leo and Mike tear off looking for her. Dante is determined to stay away, and heads towards his room. Pandora, a Arcadian Were-panther, catches their scent and knows she must get away. She was in heat, and if Weres get close enough, animal instinct will kick in, and the will have sex. This would be a tragedy, since Arcadian and Katagaria are mortal enemies. When she tres to escape to her room for safety, she runs into Romeo, in the hall. He says he will help, since he is mated therefore impotent to all other females. He warns her about the twins, and said Dante would stay away because he does it want to mate. She reveals she is looking for Acheron. She was kidnapped by a clan if Katagaria in the future and brought back, and does not have the honing skills yet to get herself back. Dante goes back out looking for Ash. There is a fun little go around with The Simi, and Ash tells him to go check his room. On the way to his room he catches scent of her and goes to her door and knocks. Will he hurt her, will they mate, will she make it back home.......

*Contains detailed sex scenes*

I liked this tale.
It was strange at first for me as I had a hard time coming to terms with the animal nature of the characters. Both characters were so primal and acted on basic instinct; what their bodies and their nature were telling them to do, that at first I was a tad put off by it. But once the story started to move forward I found I really enjoyed it.
Dante was a very strong, fierce man, and I liked that even though he was Katagaria he was still kind and gentle towards Pandora. He treated her well and unlike what someone else might have done, he didn’t force to do or chose anything she didn’t want.
At first I was a little put off by Pandora. I felt that she judged Dante too harshly straight away when she knew nothing of him other than the fact he was Katagaria. However as she began to trust him and her feelings changed about him, I liked her a lot more and found her to be a sweetie. Although she was pretty innocent, I liked that when Dante was fighting the other were-panthers, and was in danger she fought to protect him, other than cower and let him fight it out himself. She was brave, which I loved.
I was happy with the ending. I’m glad they decided to mate and then eventually bond, and of course I was happy to see Ash and Simi in this tale. It’s always great seeing them and they were wonderful...as usual.

Oh my, I love me some paranormal romances and I had certainly missed reading this kind of books.
Honesty, Sherrilyn Kenyon cannot write a bad book and I say this because I have read so many of her books and not on I have disliked.
This one was no different. I loved the story of Dante and Pandora. It was a fast paced romance that did everything I wanted it to do. The lust was read and the love was good. Thank you very much author for a good read.
I enjoyed seeing Acheron because who would not enjoy reading about him and Simi.
Were-panthers. Mh ! I swear the ideas that go into an author’s mind.

I came into this story wondering how much, or how little, I was going to like Dante. The only book I'd read about him in so far was Kiss of the Night. In that book, he didn't seem very friendly and I was a little stunned that he mercilessly murdered his brother, traitor or not. However, after reading "Winter Born," I had to reevaluate my opinion of him. I found him to be generous, unbendingly protective, loving, unflinchingly loyal, respectful, respectable. It was touching to me that he let Pandora leave, and didn't try to restrict or own her, despite having issues with people leaving him. His prowess in bed seemed to be second only to his fierce battle skills.

Pandora, on the other hand, bothered me to an extent. I can understand her distrust towards werepanthers considering what she had been through already, but I did not appreciate her taking it out on Dante, especially after he was so kind and gentle with her in bed since it was her first time. I found it extremely hypocritical of her that she had almost no problem having sex with him, and then once the loving was over, she called him an animal, which he can't help because it's his nature, and was cruel to him. She had no right to act that way after what he did for her. Also hypocritical of her was the fact that she was so mean to him and he didn't say anything about it, and then when Dante was less than enthusiastic about finding out they were mates, she had the audacity to be offended and tell him that he could be a little more excited. She redeemed herself, albeit slightly, when she refused to let Dante fight alone, and when she returned for to him after Leo and Mike told her about Dante's "phobia."

Overall, the story was a good one. Despite Pandora's shortcomings and the shortness of the story, I enjoyed myself while I was reading this. It did, actually, leave me wanting more. In particular, though, I liked that Ash and Simi were in the story because they are my favorite characters from the Dark-Hunter Series. Also, I found this far more entertaining than Fear the Darkness, which was about four pages long and was nothing but Nick Gautier bitching and blaming everything on Acheron.

Oh goodie... that was awesome.
I had no idea what the book was about, I just dived in believing in Sherrilyn Kenyon's talent to write these passionate, amazing books.
When I started reading the book I was intrigued by this new species. Panthers were mentioned before but we never really read anything from their P.O.V and I was really interested in it and when I 'saw' Dante I instantly remembered him from Kiss of the Night and I didn't know what to expect.
Dante was a little harsh to kill his brother in that book, because he had betrayed the pack, so I didn't really know what he was like except that he doesn't tolerate treachery. Here we get to see him in a different light. In only 75 pages, there was enough to make me like him very, very much. He was tender, sweet and confused by what was happening to him, just as the Arcadian panther he met at Demon Con.
Pandora is just reached her womanhood, she has been abducted, she escaped her captors and she is a virgin panther in heat. Not a good combination for the young girl, because if she gets anywhere near a male panther she'll be all over him no matter what the human in her told her. The animal was stronger and it wanted to mate..
It was an amazing short story mainly because I got to see yet another type of were-hunters and to find a little bit more about their kind. What I know so far is that every different species acts differently. One thing is for sure though... Arcadians and Katagarias don't mingle without blood being spilled.
It's fascinating to read about all these different characters with their past hanging in the background making them these incredibly strong man and women. I love how the story just sucks me in and I can't escape it's hold until I finish the book and then I just want the next one.
It was one hell of a short story and the only flaw was that the characters got to the I love you's a little too fast. They mated and bonded but it just didn't feel exactly right for them to say 'I love you' to each other when they did...
I'm not letting it darken my view of the book tough, because it might have been fast for humans but these are not normal people so I'm willing to let it slide. I loved the story too much to care anyway.

A novella about Pandora, an Archadian (meaning human turning into animal) Were-Pantheress who's going into heat, and Dante, a Katagaria Were-Panther (meaning an animal turning into human) who helps her through it.

Archadians and Katagarians are enemies, and Pandora is terrified of Katagarians after all the horror stories she's heard through the years, as well as her own experiences with them, but Dante is nothing like what she imagined.

He is gentle with her and takes care of her, and while neither of them is exactly thrilled when .

They both have their own set of issues, and Pandora annoyed me more than a little, but the story isn't drawn out, so it was overwhelming. I wasn't too fond of the insta-love either, but they have the destined thing going so I guess it makes a sort of sense.

The series continues with Seize the Night and Valerius and Tabitha's story.

OM Gosh. I thought this story was hilarious. I got it in audio. And it was hilarious. The brothers seemed more like NJ Italians than Minnesota Greeks lol. I laughed and laughed... have not laughed that hard since Sunshine and Talon's book. Oh MY... Dante sounded a little like Clint Eastwood when he said "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?" with the way he speaks all breathy like. The twins Leo & Mike sounded a little like Joe Pesci, and Romeo sounded like all the adult Italian males I grew up with in NY. lol. This cracked me up and when they did the whole Ash, and the other two gods hanging around a table with Pandora listening to a band I thought of something that Alexion/Ias said in the last book about how is it that movies had ancient Greeks all sound like they had Brittish accents. Made me laugh and laugh as I listened.

~I can already consider myself an expert in the matter and not believe that the were are something supernatural but a species that surrounds us. Dante is awesome, the perfect panther for Pandora. And his family is adorable, especially the cubs named by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (lol).
Ash acted all mysterious and enigmatic while he was the scriptwriter in this story. You mischievous, how I love you!

Another great story by SK!

I must admit that I have really missed SK and her wondrous mind. So it was really great to pick this up and get back into the world of the were-hunters.

I love Pandora and her desperate need to fight for her freedom, and Dante is an incredible male shifter that is the epitome of everything we all love about SK's stories.

Winter Born is a great short read that still has all the action and romance that we SK fans love!
