Max...
I’ve got my looks, my charm, and well, a smile that melts panties. My charm only gets me so far though. Apparently, that limit is the law.
I don’t even care when the courts finally give me a punishment for vandalising the church property; in my defence, I didn’t know it was a church.
They’ve got me serving three months of community service working at the local church’s Salvation shelter.
They think three months here will change me; that I will change my delinquent ways. If only they knew... nothing could ever tame me.
I was taught at an early age that love destroys you. I accept that I’ll never love and I’ll never be loved.
What I’ve learned though is that love is also your greatest weakness; it’s why that one four letter word will never leave my mouth.

I’m Lake Miller...
For the past year of my life I’ve never stayed anywhere longer than a few weeks. I’d sleep at different homeless shelters, park benches or anywhere I could find a dry place to sleep; the only belongings I have are carried in my backpack. I left everything else behind.
Now I’ve ended up in Coldenshire; tired of sleeping on the streets, tired of hurting and tired of eating scraps of food.
So when a chance encounter for a job at the local church shelter popped up, I took it. I know my time here is running out and that I should run, especially when the town bad boy, who is sexy as sin and annoying as hell, walks through the doors thinking he’s God’s gift to women.
He thinks life is a joke, that his smart mouth hides the pain behind his eyes, but he’s so off track I’m surprised he’s not lost.
I see the real him, and I don’t want anything to do with him, but he makes it hard when he’s always in my face. I have my own pain, my own loss and grief to suffer through; I don’t need anyone else’s.
I don’t need anything.
Not love, not sympathy, and certainly not forgiveness, after all, I killed my brother.
I’m a murderer.

Due to strong language and sexual scenes, intended for readers 18+

I honestly don’t know where to start! Well I obviously have to say that max is mine! Ha-ha, in fact all of the carter brothers are mine and I don’t like to share!

I can honestly say that I didn’t stop laughing the whole way through reading this book, Max is hilarious and I honestly think he’s a cutie. I HAD to read this book in parts, well what I mean is, that I read this in a few days rather then in one sitting, the reason being that I didn’t want this book to end! I didn’t want it to end. When I find a book I love or even a series, I don’t like to part with them ever! In fact the carter brothers series is a series I re read a lot. Its one of my favourite book series and if I had to pick a few series to read forever and never read another series/another book ever again, the carter brothers series honestly would be number one! I honestly didn’t think that I would get over my heart hurt caused by Myles Carter & Kayla, but then I read max and he mended/fixed my heart.

Max is one of the youngest Carter brothers and he is hilarious and a massive softy but what not many people know is that he hides his hurt & insecurities of his past behind his sense of humour and his funny reactions and sayings. Behind It all he is a lost boy that is scared of loving and losing another person in his life,. If he doesn’t let them in and love them, they can’t leave him right? Well that’s Max’s mind-set. But then Lake enters his life and turns his world upside down and fights her way through the walls of his heart, no matter what Max tries, he can’t help but fall in love with the broken beauty that is Lake.

Lake is a broken beauty, she doesn’t want to let anybody in, in fact she wants to alone, well that’s what she thinks she deserves. Lake is hiding a big secret of her past and after what she did, or should I say what she THINKS she did, she doesn’t think she deserves the luxury of having the shelter of a warm cosy home, friends or love. She honestly thinks she deserves to be forever alone, then Max bursts into her life and tries to draw her out of her shell, Lake fights her growing feelings for Max at every turn, but Max doesn’t and won’t give up, he thinks what he feels for Lake is worth fighting for!

Max is determined to find out what Lake is hiding, in fact he’s determined to prove to Lake that deserves to be happy, even if it means losing her by going behind her back and finding out her secret by himself! I honestly won’t say much else about it because I don’t want to spoil it for the people waiting to read Max’s story.

Also have to say that Max’s relationship with Thor is hilarious! And the epilogue is wet yourself funny, I honestly can’t wait for Mavericks story after reading the epilogue.

Loved it!
I did love Myles' book better but Max didn't disappoint.
What I would love though, is to actually get some insight on each brother's view on their childhood. They've been through so much, yet we don't really go into it, just the surface details.

Lake was likable, but her whole reasoning on running was a tad impulsive.
Looking forward to Maverick's story!

I was so engrossed in this book when I looked at the time it was half 1 in the morning I started the book at nine :) this is the type of book you CANNOT read if you only want to do a few pages before bed!

Max is completely different from Myles although the pair are twins and look alike they are two very different people but still share the same good traits family first and once they love they love hard all the Carter brothers do.

so many times I had to stop reading because I was laughing so much I was worried I would wake my son up.

I have to say I was not disappointed at all with this book, the Carter brothers series just gets better and better ( always Team Malik ) I cannot wait to get stuck in to Maverick next :)

one thing I hope is once the series is finish can we please have a novella of them all together years later, I would love to see them gang in their early 30s and what they have been up to.

here's a few of my favourite LOL moments:

“Ants,’’ Myles shouts, roaring with laughter.
“Fucker,’’ Maverick growls as we all throw ourselves down on the floor.
“I’m going to need some back physio after tonight,’’ I groan, waving my legs and arms around.
“You should be used to being on your back,’’ Lee comments snidely. “Nah, your mom likes me on top,’’ I shoot back.
“Wanker.’’ People are careful not to step on us. A few of them even stop to stare down at us as if we’re fascinating creatures on display. “What? You never seen an epileptic ant before?’’ I shout.

I really despise that girl. She’s always got an opinion about everything and everyone around her. If only she concentrated on her own life like she did everyone else’s. The bitch probably has more enemies than Voldemort.

The woman has her hand around Mason’s neck, his face swallowed up in her ample cleavage. His arms are flapping around everywhere, gaining attention from other dancers. The woman keeps him in line, though, dragging him with her as she dances.
“One of us should save him,’’ Lee flinches.
When the woman’s hold on Mason tightens, even I have to admit I’m feeling kinda sorry for him. The woman looks sweaty. Her wet hair is stuck to her head and her body is glistening under the club lights. Classy!
All of a sudden, Mason escapes unscathed, but from the look on his face, a lot of therapy is going to be needed. He looks like he’s just survived The Hunger Games but is still reeling from the after effects.

that is just the tip of the iceberg on how funny this book is you DO NOT WANT TO MISS THE CARTER BROTHERS ON A STAG NIGHT ARRANGED BY THEM!!!!

Re-read after a few years, so my memory has this down as being a real hoot when I first read it, and while there were moments that made me smile this time round it didn't have my cheeks hurting because I was so amused.

Lake Miller is homeless, having run from her loved ones and she hasn't stopped - she feels she has no right to be happy and so keeps everyone at a distance. But when she meets the Carter family and Max Carter in particular keeping a distance isn't so easy.

Some very OTT moments in this - some made me smile/laugh others no so much.

I generally am each to their own when it comes to what people like in the bedroom but the woman that wants Max to - yuck.

I read this book for a challenge. But I started this series a long time ago, when only a few books were out. I came back to this series. The book is not on KU at this time but the audio was included in my subscription, so I got to listen to it for free.

The narration was okay. But maybe in the time since I started to read this series and now reading Max I might have changed. Because a lot of time I wanted to shout at the leads, don't suffer go to a therapist and get help!

It was an okay book a little too long for my liking and since it is free in my subscription I will also listen to the last book.

This is the 4th book in the Carter Brother’s Series and should be read in order

Max Carter is charming, good looking and sexy as sin. He never has a problem getting women to drop their panties for him that was until he met Lake Miller. There is something about her he can’t forget but she’s the one with secrets that could tear them apart.

I was gifted this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Max Carter isn’t just your average bloke, he is a Carter and the brothers are known for how protective they are of each other and loved ones. Much like his brother’s Max is an alpha male who knows who he is and is comfortable with the way his life has turned out. The jokester of the clan, Max doesn’t take life seriously. Max knows that all he has to do is smile to get any female he wants and has many of them throwing themselves at him even knowing that he’s a love them and leaving them kind of guy.

Lake Miller is far from home. She has secrets that she’s not willing to share and does all she can to keep everyone at a distance. Her job at the Church shelter is everything she needs; her boss Joan is the kindest and most understanding person in her life right now. She reminds Lake of her late grandmother making her miss her home. Lake is a strong willed caring young woman who is carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. In her mind this is the punishment she deserves.

Lake is an anomaly to Max as she didn’t want anything from him and he didn’t just want to conquer her, he actually wanted to get to know Lake. There was just something about her that saw past all his defenses and it helped that she liked the same things he did. The day Lake met Max Carter changed her life. Max’s is well known as the town bad boy whom she can’t seem to stay away from. He’s cocky, sexy and funny but there is just something about him that makes it hard to stay away. It doesn’t help that Max seems to pop up wherever she is. The attraction between these two is so strong you can’t help but feel it as you read. Max is the one Carter brother you love to hate but he always brings a smile to your face and makes you laugh out loud when you’re reading. Rooting for these two, to get together was inevitable. They have the perfect mix of chemistry that explodes when you least expect it. I love that we get to see all sides of Max, not just the charming, funny player he lets everyone see but the serious side that only comes out when he’s with his loved ones.

Lisa did an amazing job on this book. I know Max’s character was much harder to write. To do his character any justice she needed to have the perfect mix of the cocky player with the serious loving side, but she pulled it off in true Max style. She did a great job at keeping her readers guess as to why Lake ended up in Coldenshire. This book is without a doubt the funniest of the Carter Brothers series and I love how we got to see a lighter side of all the boys. The bonus about this book and the rest in the series is Lisa builds on all the characters in the series giving her readers a chance to catch up with the whole cast and leaving us with dying to see what’s going to happen in the next book, Maverick.

5 Stars!

When we got offered the chance to review Malik, book one in this series, I was unsure of how it would be because high school kids are not my thing typically but I gave it a try... and guess what?!... best decision ever since this new series is a top favorite of mine.

Like the other books in this series, Lisa Helen Gray has a way of pulling you in from the first page, playing with your emotions, tearing you apart, then slowly piecing you back together. I am so glad I took a chance on her, because she is now a go-to author for me.

I loved every piece of this book. Dare I say Max is my favorite? Oh yeah, get ready to swoon and fall completely, totally in love with him. This book picks up with the next Carter boy and dives right back into the their family and the swoonworthy boys who make it up.

This book has it all.. suspense, laughs, steam, passion, and one alpha male who will do anything for the girl who steal his heart because when a Carter boy falls, they fall hard. Oh and the twists, they will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.

This is Lake and Max's epic love story. Lake is broken, jaded, and shell of who she use to be, with demons in her past. Max is your typical cocky, good-looking guy who is deeper than he seems. Sometimes fate puts us on a journey that will forever change our lives.

When these two cross paths, their lives will be forever marked. Will Lake find the redemption and forgiveness she needs? Will Max be able to open his heart, take a chance on love and let Lake in? Love isn't always easy but it's always worth it.

Oh these two pulled at my heartstrings. I loved Max... he was everything I knew he could be. And Lake... my heart bled for her at times. I rooted for these two... hard. And together.. scorching! Their banter, their chemistry... it was all electric and so satisfying.

I highly recommend this book and series.

Max just like his brothers is an amazing character that makes you laugh, makes you cry and in the end makes your heart melt! I love Lisa Helen Grey as an author and highly recommend all of her books, but this series has a very special place in my heart! I love the 5 brothers, the women who come into their lives and the side characters who make their family complete. I love a book series that draws you in and is so well written that you feel a part of the book and the family! Max is one of my favorite characters in all of the other books and so I couldn’t wait for his book to come out! I loved the story and even the crazy sad parts where *spoiler* Max lets Lake go to be with her family is so incredibly moving that I cried reading about both of their hearts breaking! Lake and Max go through some troubling times in this story but my favorite thing is that the “hard” parts are so sprinkled in with the happy, hot and funny parts that you are able to recover and move on without the book being to sad. I love the relationship that comes about with Max and Lakes twin brother and how Lisa handles introducing new characters into the story that makes you feel they have been along for the ride. Some of my other favorite parts include - The Bachelor/Bachelorette party!!!! (So funny/sexy/spicy red hot!!) Seeing Hope all the time :) and just the general craziness that comes from the Carter Family! I also CANNOT wait for the next book! Maverick’s story looks to be an amazing addition/finale to this series!

Having read the previous books in the Carter brother series I couldn't wait to delve deeper into the mind of Max, one of the twins.

Max is a typical bad boy. He doesn't seem to care what he does, has no conscience, and woe betide anyone who steps between him and what he wants to do. He is happy the way he is and can't see himself being any different. He has a big mouth and allows it to run away with him at times without first thinking about what he is saying.

Lake is a troubled young woman with a secret. This secret is holding her back from moving on with her life. On meeting Joan she is very quickly taken under the Carter family wing. But she cannot allow her past to come out as she fears that will have her back on her own, running away from everyone and everything.

Max and Lake are forced to work together, and this leads to some explosive moments. There are a lot of laugh out loud moments throughout the book, and the epilogue itself had me laughing almost all the way through.

As expected, the author gives us a lot more of the other characters we have loved throughout the series. The story is written well, the characters are brilliantly done, and this is a very welcome addition to the series.

The promise of more to come in Maverick's story has me desperate for more. The author hints a lot at his troubled past in this book, and I can't wait to read more about him.

A great addition to the series.

The story has laughs, lies, secrets, pain, abuse, grief, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Malik (Carter Brothers #1)
Mason (Carter Brothers #2)
Evan (Carter Brothers #2.5)
Myles (Carter Brothers #3)

This is Lake and Max’s story. These two are both broken in their own way. With her past Lake thinks she does not deserve Max. Max feels the same way but friends are not enough for these two. But what happens when life gets in the way? Each of them needs someone they can trust and lean on but are they choosing the right people? Secrets are revealed and the past comes back to haunt. Can these two work together toward a future or is it over for them?

I loved these characters and also the side characters. You get to know a little about each brother in this story so I can’t wait for the other brother’s stories. I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

Loved this book!
I don’t think I have laughed so much in entire life, both Max and the older people in this books are totally crazy.
The part in the book when they when out to celebrate before the wedding I thought lost my voice laughing so much.
I loved every second reading this book become there was so much deft going in to the characters, Max had big abandonment issues and Lake was overwhelmed by guilt. But whenever they interacted with on another they became there true self’s with no bullshit or fronts up. There why to each other in a romantic way was a long one but good for them, the both didn’t really want that. So being hit on the head out of nowhere with there overwhelming feelings for each other was hard.

But them talking that step and Max finding the courage to call her parents should have far they had grown.
Can’t wait to read the last one of the book’s!!

whoop so pleased we have a date! Max's character has me in stitches in this series. I'm so excited to read his story!!

Well....... I can not say I was disappointed. I love Max, the book had me laughing out loud and I found the relationship with Lake is very touching and Max's bad boy persona waning in favour of a more sensitive man, I'm so pleased his story continued his antics which we read in the previous books. The story which lies behind the Carter Brothers keeps seeping out slowly, with each brother coming to terms with the past and embracing their futures with the women, they have given their whole hearts to.

I really can't wait for Mavericks story - I loved the little tease to it at the end of this book- This is one of my favourite series - a book to read again and again! :)

A very good book about someone who walks into your life and gives you something you need. Max is your typical bad boy but also with a streak of good in him. he is protective of his family and never really has any problem getting anyone and anything he wants. This is why Lake is such a mystery to him and a potential for more, she does not take him the way others do.Lake has some secrets, and secrets can keep you protected for only so long before they become too big to hold the weight of. This is where Max becomes a book boyfriend for me, he and hid family give Lake a chance for more. No going to say anymore and spoil it for you, a very worthwhile read, i have not read other books by this author but i will do at some point as i enjoyed this one

Max was a silly child with no growth as a person. Honestly dating him would be like dating a 2 year old. He starts something with lake and one little disagreement and he is off attempting to have a threesome with some random girl. nope!! not for me.
