The Beauty and the Beast theme is one that I don't think I will ever tire of. I am used to the Beast always being depicted by the male character; but in Michelle Willingham's "Warriors of Ireland" it is the heroine who is scarred, shunned, and left feeling isolated throughout her life. Ms. Willingham is an author whom I discovered back when I first started reading romance books. I had a weak spot for the historicals, as well as the warriors who were often strong but tortured souls. There is something about her writing that has always made me open up and take notice, and even though it has been quite some time since I have read this genre, I am so glad that I reintroduced myself to one of her stories!

This is a story about two individuals who have been given a hard go in life. Taryn Connelly was not born scarred; but had something happen to her as a child that left her face no longer smooth and beautiful. She became very accustomed to having people turn from her in horror. It became common for her to hide her face, and be ashamed of her looks. Even though Taryn felt this way about herself though, it didn't stop her as a woman being ready to fight for her father's fate. He was being held by the High King for commiting treason. Taryn meets a warrior named; Killian MacDubh and decides that they should join forces to help each other out.

As far as Killian goes; his life was no walk in the park either. He was born a bastard, and treated like a slave all of his life. He has always desired and dreamed of owning land he could call his very own. When he comes across Taryn and realizes that if they join forces his situation could very well change for the better, he decides to become her protector. Both of them will learn very quickly though that not all is as it seems, and there are many secrets, betrayals, and lies floating around. It will become very hard to know who is friend and who is foe. To top it all off, Taryn and Killian begin to feel things about one another that would probably be best left alone. Will they be able to fight their desires for one another? Or will they give into the passion and learn that if they can't trust others, they most certainly can trust one another.

If you are a reader who loves the Scottish or Irish historicals; then this is a must read. Michelle Willingham is up there with the best writers of this genre. I loved being once again transported from present day to the early days where the heroes have a special kind of bravery, and insist on protecting their ladies. This author knows how to paint a picture with words, and keep the reader interested in the story from start to finish. I am honored to have a chance at reading an ARC of this story, and I was very happy to find out there will be a second story of the "Warriors of Ireland!"

ARC provided to me by author, Michelle Willingham in exchange for an honest review.

Enjoyable story.
Lady Taryn was attacked as a four year old, leaving her face scarred .
Killian was brought up knowing he was the bastard son of a King who did not want him.
These two people meet and agree to help each other. Taryn wants him to help her rescue her farther. He wants her to help rescue his adopted sister.
Lots of twist in this story. We also meet old characters from the MacEgan family and a new character for the next book.

The book starts describing both situations, we got to know the characters, their personalities and the problems they are facing. Then nice thing is that even if the book is short, the story doesn't process too fast. The story goes on as it should, the two grow together through the bond that unites them. Together they start a journey to fulfill their promises and find themselves when all odds are against them.
The writing is amazing, I couldn't lift my eyes from the pages. The story got me hooked on the book, I counted the hours until I would go home and read. Although I really enjoyed the book, the plot twist at the end isn't as much a twist  as it tries to be, but still it is interesting to read.
What I liked a lot about the book is how it fools the reader. What I mean is that nothing is what it seams to be. The reader gets to think about what's happening and process it. And one more thing that I loved is that the princess has a unique appearance. She doesn't have the usual beauty a man sees to a woman due to her scars.
Moving on to the second and last book of the series!

A good read.

One sexy warrior, Killian looking to protect his sister (adopted) from the vile clutches of the evil king (his father) runs into a scarred but beautiful lady, Taryn. Taryn is on her own mission too; to free her father from the evil king's dungeon. Lies and secrets unfold as they journey to the king.....her fear of horses and being stopped by her mother hinder their quest. They slowly fall in love but both doubt anyone could really love them: him being a lowly bastard and her scarred face and body......both hide an equally damaged soul.

A really a sweet take on the beauty and the beast tale. Killian is emotionally damaged but a strong warrior body hides a thoughtful and caring side as he looks beyond Taryn's scars to see her real beauty. Taryn is damaged on the outside and inside, she still manages to be a brave woman in the face of the unknown....and looking beyond Killian'strength and beauty to see the wonderful man within.

A sweet well written read. Such wonderful details make you feel right at home in medieval times.

Very good book and twist on the Beauty and the Beast story. Killian is a very handsome man who has scars on the inside from the way he has been treated all his life. Born a bastard to a woman who took refuge with the tribe, Killian has been treated as the lowest type of servant. He is determined to set out on his own and win a place for himself. The only person who has every treated him well is the girl he thinks of as his sister. Carice has been promised to the High King as his bride, but will do anything she can to get out of it. Killian has promised her he'll do whatever he can to help her.

Taryn is the daughter of the King of Ossoria. She was badly scarred as a child and has been rejected by many people because of it. The only person who has treated her well has been her father. Now he has been imprisoned by the High King and Taryn is determined to free him by whatever means necessary. Her mother has forbidden her to get involved, so Taryn sets off on her own.

When they meet, Taryn and Killian agree to a bargain. She will help Killian find a way to free his sister if he will go to Tara with her to free her father. Killian is a cynical realist and holds out little hope for Taryn's mission to be a success. However, he has his own reasons for wanting to go to Tara, so he agrees. Taryn has great sympathy for Carise and her predicament. She is also a person who believes in the good in people, so she believes that they will succeed. Things don't go quite as planned and early in the journey Killian and Taryn are separated from the group.

I loved the development of the relationship between Killian and Taryn. There is a physical attraction between them but each believes themselves to be unlovable. Taryn believes that no man will want her because of her scars, a feeling reinforced by her rejection at the hands of the man she was supposed to marry. Killian has been treated so badly for so long that he can't see any woman wanting him for himself, certainly not one who his so far above him. What I liked about the two of them was that they saw past the surfaces. Killian was aware of Taryn's scars, but they made no difference to him. He thought she was beautiful as she was and treated her that way. At the same time, Taryn never saw Killian as a servant, only as a warrior. It was interesting to see that neither truly believed that the other was honest in their treatment because of what they believed about themselves.

I loved Killian's protectiveness toward Taryn. Though he believed that her mission would end in heartache for her, he was going to make sure she got there. There were bumps along the way. Because of how she got her scars, Taryn is afraid of animals. Killian ends up being very patient with her and helps her overcome those fears. And despite knowing that she can never truly be his, he can't help but look at her that way. There is a possessive streak that shows up when they are at the MacEgan's that gets him in some trouble with her. I also loved Taryn's confidence in Killian and what he can do. She never shows any doubt that he can do what was promised. She finds herself falling in love with him, even though she knows it can't be.

Killian devised a way to protect Taryn that would also get him what he wanted. Of course, he doesn't take into account her feelings. Taryn resists his idea because she wants to be wanted for herself, not her lands. Then necessity forces them into a deception that throws them more closely together and their feelings become too much to resist. I loved the ending as they both realized what was more important, and through that got everything they could have wished for.

The story of why they are going to Tara, and the connections of the various characters to the High King was very interesting. Taryn's father has been accused of treason and is due to be executed. She doesn't believe her father is guilty and is determined to appeal to the King. Taryn's mother is equally determined that she not do so, and takes her own steps to stop her. Carise is supposed to marry him, but is terrified of his reputation as a cruel man. Killian is a bastard son to him, and has been ignored his entire life. When everyone converges on Tara, things get really interesting. There are several twists and turns that happen before everything is all over. I really didn't see the one involving Killian coming.

I loved the setting of this story and the chance to learn more about Irish history. The details of conflicts among the Irish tribes, the High King, and the Normans was really interesting. I was also intrigued by Killian's background and what his life had been like. This book also takes place during the same time period as the MacEgan Brothers series, and includes some of them.

Another mind blowing heartstopping absolutely spectacular read by the talented Michelle Willingham in her Duet Series Warriors of Ireland. There are not all that many historical romances about Ireland so I found this story both refreshing and unique as well. As always by Ms. Willingham captured my heart and soul. If you are a fan of the Disney classic "Beauty and The Beast" though the stories are nothing alike, you will see what I mean as the hero is male perfection and the heroine had a horrible thing happen to her as a child and has facial scars for life.

Also if you are are a fan of Michelle Willingham's Irish "MacEgan Brothers" series then you are in for a real treat! A few of the MacEgan Brothers tribe will be in this book, which just thrilled me to pieces! I am a major fan of the series , as it is how I discovered this multi talented author so many years ago, as I have read and loved each and every book in that series. If you haven't read this wonderful series I highly recommend you do, they are all excellent books!

Ireland 1172....
In this story Lady Taryn Connelly will to do anything she can to save her father, King Devlin of Ossoria, who has been arrested and charged with being traitor and sits in the high..Ard-Righ, King Rory O'Connor's dungeon in Tara awaiting his death sentence. Lady Taryn feels all these charges are all unfounded and lies and she will do anything to rescue her father from the being executed. The problem is her cold unfeeling mother, Queen Maeve feels her father deserves death and she has a total different image of this man then the image Taryn has. Where Taryn feels he is a good, strong ruler and Queen Maeve sees him as a cruel, self serving man that only cares about himself and getting ahead and isn't worth saving. Plus everyone hears the cruelty and wickedness of King Rory and fears for her daughters life. Taryn refused to abandon her father and is determined to save him!

Lady Taryn's life has not been easy as everyone looks at her like she is some sort of monster due to her face being scarred from a tragic accident as a child which was the same day her brother died. Although Taryn was only four years old and has no memory of what had happened to her. No nobleman wants to marry her due to her facial scars and her heart is scarred as well. Taryn knows what's she looks like, but still wants a husband and family although she knows if is not in her future. She knows many would marry her for her title and lands, but she wants more then that. Now she knows she needs a warrior to help help her reason for going to Carrickmeath and meeting warrior Killian MacDubh whom she asks for help. Killian will do anything to help his sister whom is not a sister by blood, but in all other ways that matter.

Killian MacDubh is the hero of this store a very handsome warrior, the bastard son of the high King yet he isn't even allowed to sleep on a pallet on the Castle. He sleeps in the barn with the horses and dogs. All he want is land of his own and be a slave to no man. As his mother had ran away from The high King as she did not want to marry King Rory and ran away to Carrickmeath and the Cheiftain allowed his mother and Killian to live on Carrickweath but once his mother Iona dies he becomes a servant and as he had nobody. For some reason the Chieftain despises Killian especially after Rory O'Connor won't even recognize him as his son. The only person Killian cares about is his sister Carice Faolin though not sister by blood and she is dying as she can't seem to eat and hold anything down. When Taryn make an off to help free her father in exchange for taking Carice to MacEgan Tribe where they will hide her as she is betrothed to the high king as everyone knows of his cruelty and plus the fact he is old enough to be her Grandfather plus the fact she is dying. Killian knows he has to get his sister away from the place. As Brian Faolin is in denial about his daughters health and wants this match just to line his own pockets!

As they make their escape to get Carice out of Carrickmeath and away from Brian Faolin things go wrong since they are being followed by Taryn's mother, who Killian is not sure if she is friend or foe wanting her husbands execution and claims only wanting to protect Taryn. He suspects her from keeping secrets and wonders if she is the one who gave Taryn the scars? Then things don't go as planned and Taryn and Killian end up traveling alone together after she get the Chieftain to agree and that's when things get really interesting as she sees and treat Killian not as a servant but so much more and he sees the beauty of Taryn and so much more they just don't see themselves as so much more. Plus no one has ever treated him as an equal and cared about him was his sister. At first Killian doesn't know what to make of it plus Taryn also feel she is too ugly and disfigured for a man like Killian. He is the most attractive man she has ever seen!

So many touching scenes especially how the animals all love Killian and how Taryn is fearful of the beasties and one special cat named Harold is a major scene stealer!

This book is amazing is about two people who have been hurt but not just on the outside but the inside as well. It is also about being brave, showing courage and of course love, and breaking down walls as they both built around their hearts to protect themselves from emotional hurt. Will they be able to break down the barriers or just keep them up and never finding what they both need, to trust someone who will love them forever?

I highly recommend this book it was hard for me to put it down as it was just amazing and I fell in love with both of these tortured souls! I can't wait for the next book in this Duet which is titled Warrior of Fire which will be Killians adopted sister Carice Faolin can't wait to read it as it is a must read on my TBR list. Warrior of Ice comes out July ist 2015.

Beautifully expressed, a pleasing read!

Wonderfully written! Ireland in 1172.
I was held spellbound by the developing relationship between landless Killian McDubhand, illegitimate son of the Rory O'Connor, the Irish High King and Taryn Connelly, a King's daughter, who has terrible facial scars. She has no memory of how she came to have the scars. The memories she does have centre around her brother being killed when thrown from his horse. Her father King Devlin has been imprisoned by the High King for treason and will be put to death. Taryn will risk all to rescue him.
When Killian looks at Taryn he sees a courageous striking woman, not a disfigured one, blemished beyond redemption. Taryn sees in Killian a fierce warrior with a tender heart, not a slave that sleeps amongst the dogs and horses.
Killian is part of an escort conveying his beloved adopted sister, Carice Faoilin to marriage with the High King. Something Carice is determined to avoid. Killian is part of a plot to assist with her escape. Taryn wants to confront the High King and have her father released. She is steps ahead of her mother, Queen Mauve and her knights, who are trying to detain her.
A plot twist that has the potential to play out for both women. Of course the path is never smooth.
Killian and Taryn's story is one of two strong willed people whose paths cross and with that crossing they are enjoined. Nothing will be the same. Hidden truths and unasked for realities create unlooked for twists that enhances the plots tension.
Willingham explains in her forward that this novel was influenced by Beauty and the Beast, with a hint of Jon Snow. In Warrior of Ice she has created a 'hero with a handsome face but the tormented soul of a beast and [a] heroine with a scarred face but the heart of a beauty.'
Walsingham's writing shows a maturity and a rich depth of understanding of people's experiences as it influences their relationships. There's action and romance to please.
A well balanced and a smooth read. Historical romance at its best.

#1 in the highly anticipated "Warriors of Ireland", series. An absolute must read, especially fans of historical Ireland, the Norman invasion, romance and passion!

Fast paced and filled with secrets, passion, misguided love of a parent, treason, adventure and the power of love. I loved the way the Hero was absolute in his covictions and his attraction to the Heroine, no matter her appearance. He showed us all beauty is in the eye of the beholder, for beauty is only skin deep.
Action packed tale that the reader will need tissues for the ending is a true tear jerker.
Ms. Willingham is an amazing storyteller! She bought the characters to life, the reader can feel their pain, the challenges of the Medieval era, and the passion if romance though the pages if "Warrior of Ice". I loved this story, and the premise of an absolute love no matter the cost.
Expertly written and carried out on the pages of a true Historical Romance during Medieval times in Ireland. A must read! Highly recommended!

I liked this one. It's being touted as a Beauty and the Beast story, but other than I liked the switch of the hero being the hunk and the heroine being "the Beast" - I found the comparison kind of thin. Where the romance worked best for me, and what I appreciated the most, is that both hero and heroine had baggage that made them believe they "weren't good enough" for the other. The hero because she's a Lady and he's a bastard. The heroine because she's scarred and no man could possibly ever want her when she views herself as defective. I also liked the way that the heroine carried herself as a Lady, carried herself in relation to her "station" - but still suffered from low self-esteem, this assumption that she'd never be "good enough." It was an intriguing mix.

I wanted more of a showdown between the heroine and her parents at the end (bugger that) - but this was a good solid medieval and it sets up the next book in the duet quite well.

Two souls who believe that love is not destined for them. Taryn is scarred and knows no man will wed her. Killian is a bastard son and lives his life low on the totem pole. One fateful night brings these two together that put their lives on a journey neither saw coming. The mission Taryn is set upon can only bring danger, but she will do anything to achieve it. This story took a twist I didn't expect for poor Taryn. Killian always wanted a better life for himself, but what happens if it meant he had to give up his dreams for her? Could he do it?

*****Another amazing read from Michelle Willingham***** I was captivated from beginning to end. I couldn't put my Kindle down from the first moment I started reading it. I love the fact that the Heroine is beautiful on the inside as well as the out side even if she does not believe herself to be. I love that the Hero is not only handsome but under all of the icy exterior has a heart of gold. Michelle Willingham's book has a vivid internal and external landscape taking you back in time. She makes her books come alive in a way that makes her readers wish to be there. I love Taryn's inner strength and Killian's character in spite of everything he has been through. I think this book is exceptionally well written and very captivating and entertaining. It really gives a you a sense of time and place (which few historical romance authors do well). I can honestly say that it made me cry in some parts and it also made my heart swell with happiness and joy by seeing the characters grow and develop in the story. I love the romantic scenes and love the fact that the romance happens gradually in this story, it is not rushed as in some other books I have read. I will also say that Michelle Willingham is one of my favorite authors and with this new series will continue to be. Everything she writes is gold. I love and have all of her books (which if you do not have them you should definitely think of buying them specially the MacEgan Brothers Series you will not be disapointend). I love, love, love this story and really can't wait for Killian's sister Carice story to come out. Buy her books, I can guarantee you will love them as much as I do.

This is such a sweet story of two beautiful souls who fall in love with each other for who they really are, not as others percieve them.

Taryn is the daughter of a King who is being held captive for treason by the High King - she will stop at nothing to help free her father, not believing the stories her mother tells her and is determined to find out the truth. Killian is the bastard son of the High King who has never known affection and has been treated no better than a slave his entire life. Being told as a child that his father wants nothing to do with him.

Both feel they are unworthy of love. She has facial scars that cause men to turn away from her, one even refusing a bethrothal, yet she yearns for a husband and family. Killian has never felt love except from his mother and sister of his heart Carice. Killian is unwelcome at Carrickmeath per the wishes of Brian Faoilin, Carice's father, who took in his mother when she was pregnant with Killian.

The book is filled with compassion, healing, intrigue and finally love. With twists and turns (which I will not give anything away), it held my interest until the very last page. Looking forward to the next book in this series!

This was a cute story driven by higher stakes events and an interesting leading couple that kept me turning the pages on my cross-country flight. The ending is stronger than the beginning, in my opinion, and the ending is fulfilling, which is what makes this a successful romance in my book.

The novel starts out with Taryn and Killian both creating elaborate plans to get what they want. Inevitably, these plans fall apart. Thank goodness. I didn't think they'd work anyway. While this was annoying, it kept me guessing as to what would happen next. Once all of their plans stopped failing, and the couple had a single-minded goal, I got into the book more.

In this book, fans of Willingham will see some old favorites from the MacEgan series, but the author also spends some time on a few, new minor characters that makes the book stand out. Taryn's backstory hooked me from the beginning, which is good because Taryn's a dunderhead. How a woman raised to be queen doesn't understand diplomacy and balancing egos is beyond me. She doesn't think anything through, but it's okay because being a queen just means helping people. (That's sarcasm, if you can't tell.)

The story is light on description, but I find myself filling in the blanks on my own without any trouble. I'm also just used to Willingham's style by this point, so I kind of like it. This is a quick read with a sweet story, and it was perfectly relaxing for me. I recommend this book if you want something that'll keep you reading without being too much work while still being steamy fun.

I RARELY INDULGE IN WHERE THE HERO ISN'T THE TOP DOG IN THE HIERARCHY OF HIS TIME...LIKE A JARL, A DUKE ETC...WHILE ENJOYABLE, IT WASN'T MY FAVOURITE FROM THIS AUTHOR.

HERO is a bastard in the literal sense. His mother having fled from his father, a King took sanctuary under another man's home and thus he became treated like a dog. He lived in the stables with the dogs too. As a man, there's only one thing he wants and that is to achieve his own land and be no man's man. When his sister (not by blood) becomes ill and is forced to marry his real father, he vows to help her escape as she's also dying. So, when the opportunity arises in the form of our heroine, he seizes it but at the same time loses his heart. While the attraction is there, I felt like it was stilted from being cultivated into becoming something more. It was a very average viking story.

HEROINE is a scarred beauty with courage. When her father is imprisoned for treason by the King, she is determined to rescue him without knowing the truth of how she became an ugly duckling. OKay, that's not true. She's actually quite beautiful but has a low self esteem, especially after her fiance spurned her for her looks. When she meets our hero, she's puzzled and genuinely curious about his affections for her, thinking that he lies when he tells her she's beautiful.

OVERALL, this was nothing I'd rave about but as a Michelle Willingham fan, I'd say it's an enjoyable story to pass the time.

The best thing about this book is that the heroine, Taryn, is scarred but our hero sees her as beautiful from the beginning. Our hero, Killian, is virtually raised as a slave but their is nothing in his demeanor that shows his horrible existance. Taryn never treats him as anything but her equal.
Unfortunately, Taryn is defined in this society by her scars and Killian is defined by his birth as a bastard. Both are considered unworthy of respect and love and suffer from a lack of self-worth because of how they were treated. However, they find out they can get both respect and love from each other.
There are twists and turns in the story but one part of the story is never resolved. The clan leader in which Killian grows up hates Killian and we never find out why or why he lied to Killian about an important matter. Also Killian does not exact revenge.
I loved Harold the cat and how Killian treats him.

Lady Taryn has ugly scars on her face and hands that have made her unacceptable to many Lords for marriage. Her father has been jailed by the High King for treason and Taryn is determined to save him somehow. She comes to King Faoilin looking for knights to help when her mother refuses to send anyone. Killian MacDubh is the bastard son of the High King. His mother ran from the High King and sought asylum from King Faoilin. It was granted but Killian has been raised in the stables as a servant. He is determined to protect his 'sister' from marriage to the High King. A pact is made between Killian and Taryn to help each other. The story follows the travels to the High King's and the problems along the way. Good plot but a bit too repetitive.

I picked this up as I read another one of the author's books and it was good.

I don't mind delving into historical romance once and a while. The story line fascinated me because first, our heroine is physically scarred which is unusual. So I wanted to see how this couple made it work. I like that the Author did a play on Beauty and the Beast with the guy being gorgeous but with demons inside and the girl scarred on the outside but beautiful on the inside. Apparently some of the characters from the author's other series appear here but I do not think you have to read those books to understand this. It is a stand alone.

I was most especially drawn to Killian because of his struggle through life. He is the illegitimate son of the king Rory of Ireland and so he lives like a servant with a clan. It's leader Brian treats him like dirt since young. Killian wants more in life. Along come Taryn Connelly, princess of Ossoria. She wants to seek help to rescue her father from the king. She believes he is innocent. Somehow she becomes entangled with Killian when he is attempting to help his sister, Carrice escape marriage to the king. Whew that is a mouthful and la di da the two of them fall for each other. Simple? not really.

I have to say the author has a knack for writing about characters with layers. Taryn is strong and stubborn but has fears. I like that she slowly became more confident through the course of the book. Killian well he just made things hard because he struggled with his growing feelings for Taryn and pushes her away multiple times. Gosh that scene where he punched Connor MacEgan made me roll my eyes.

'And when the man dared to lean in and steal a kiss, he rage shattered. Killian crossed through the crowd, heedless of the guests and musicians. He grabbed Connor by the tunic and hurled the man backwards.

A fist slammed into his ear, and the world tipped sideways. Killian staggered, swinging until his fist connected with Connor's jaw.

"She's mine," he gritted out to Connor. "Do not touch her" '.

Seriously Killian? you distance yourself and talk shit about not wanting to be with her because of what crap and then you punch a guy out for taking interest in her. When you have not even agreed to become exclusive. Real smart. Your fighting skills are awesome but you are a big idiot when it comes to romance. A Type 1 error indeed. But I like how he saw past her scars to her inner beauty. The scene where he helps her ride a horse was sweet.

The main contention of the couple was their difference in status. Killian constantly felt like Taryn would look down on him but she never did. She constantly treated him as an equal. The twist at the end was a surprise. I like seeing how they dealt with the change in dynamics. The sex scenes are steamy to say the least.

I love the setting but the words and slangs were very hard to understand and pronounce, I probably butchered the names. The writing made Ireland seem to intriguing. Along with the time period. The plot was good with twists and turns. A compelling story from an author to seems to know what she is doing.

Heartfelt superb Irish Romance

There is never a disappointment with a Michelle Willingham book! This author is one of my most favored treasures and I look forward to each new release. A page turning do not want to put down from page one through the end, Warrior of Ice, part of Warriors of Ireland duet series, is very well written enthralling tale of a beautiful scarred heroine and a hero, born a bastard, who yearns to find a place for himself.

The reader is drawn into and made to feel a part of the story along with the characters, watching as each chapter unfolds. Betrayal, secrets, passion, romance, emotional highs and lows, mystery, battles, and healing holds the reader until the very last page in the book.

Set in 1172 Ireland, Lady Taryn is a very determined heroine who, although feeling most of her life as if she is alone, is willing to go to great lengths to free her father, accused of treason and awaiting death. Her mother is no help at all as she thinks Taryn’s father is guilty as charged. But Taryn feels differently and is willing to fight for his life on his behalf, no matter anyone else’s thoughts. She is also intelligent enough to know she must have some help if she is to succeed.

During her quest she meets the handsome warrior Killian MacDubh, who is part of the escort taking his sister Carice to her betrothed. Carice, however, has no desire to wed a thrice her age cruel lord. Looking beyond the fact that Killian is bastard born and sleeps with the animals in a stable, Lady Taryn feels he can be of help to her. Yearning for land of his own and improving his own lot in life, and desperately needing to find a way to help his sister escape her wedding plans, he agrees to help the Lady Taryn if she will agree to take help him take Carice to the MacEgans and hide her from her betrothed. Although they join in their plans to help each other those who would keep Taryn from saving her father are not far behind and will do all they can to stop any progress.

Scarred from an earlier event in life, Lady Taryn thinks no man will want her as a wife. She treats Killian with respect and as an equal and he sees beyond the scars to her beauty. Two beautiful, yet scarred people are passionately drawn towards each other and must find a way trust in order to find what they both equally need.

I most highly recommend this and any other book by Michelle Willingham to anyone who loves a great romance read. The previous MacEgan series is mentioned in this story. I am very much looking forward to reading Carice’s story in Warrior of Fire which releases in December 2015.

A TOUCHING RETELLING OF A CLASSIC TALE

I must confess, that I have enjoyed every story by Michelle Willingham that I have ever read, this book being no exception. However, whereas normally I can jump into one of Michelle's stories right away, I didn't find that to be the case this time. The circumstances of the meeting between Killian and Taryn were a bit of a stretch for me. I went along with the story anyhow and of course, was not disappointed. There was a point near the end of the book, as well, where someone experienced an injury with unrealistic consequences. By that time, I was so embroiled with the story that I was able to overlook it. Where Michelle's writing excels is in describing the unfolding of Taryn and Killian's relationship. I found myself thoroughly entrenched in this beautiful story of two people who found healing in each other. There were a few twists and turns in the plot, which added to the excitement of the adventure, and I found myself anxiously anticipating what the outcome would be!

Taryn is a woman, who although she was rather naive about certain things, had a good head on her shoulders when it came to reading people and dealing with them. When her circumstances brought her into Killian's life, he observed that she was different from others in his past. Of course, this didn't escape his notice, especially considering how he had been and was still being treated by others.

Killian's devotion to a woman who was like a sister to him was very touching to read about. Of course, after what he had been through, he carefully guarded his heart, just like Taryn did because of her disfigurement.

You will not be disappointed in reading about how Killian and Taryn managed to break down the defenses in the walls of each other's hearts. Fans, such as myself, of animals in stories will love reading about the ones introduced in this book. I also loved reading about some familiar characters from Michelle's MacEgan Brothers series, which I would also highly recommend.

Note: I received an advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

Warrior of Ice is a wonderful story about Taryn, a scarred woman with royal blood and a heart of gold and Killian, a man who is considered nothing more than a slave, a slave with ambitions of more than what he believes his birthright allows. Taryn is on a quest to free her father who has been condemned as a traitor and Killian reluctantly agrees to accompany her while also providing her safety. Without giving too much away, complications arise that lead them both to question themselves and each other. They also discover that what they thought they wanted becomes more of a challenge every day they are together.
I am a fan of all of Michelle Willingham’s books and have to say I truly enjoyed Taryn and Killian’s story. I loved the fact she was physically scarred but still remained beautiful on the inside. I would usually shy away from a book with a physically flawed character because I tend to lose interest however; the dimension and traits given to Taryn were captivating and had me immediately liking her. Killian was a likable and handsome hero with character flaws but eventually he realizes his true potential and lives up to it.
The historical aspects of the story were quite detailed and show how much research Mrs. Willingham puts into her work. I’ve read many Scottish historical romances (they happen to be my favorite) but have found very few Irish historical romances that compelled me to finish reading them.
I did feel that her physical scars were mentioned quite a lot but I don’t think it took away from the story. A lot of conflict and challenges happen which balances the story very well. Their chemistry does not disappoint and is hot and passionate. Taryn and Killian have their own tragedies to battle but love eventually conquers all.
I highly recommend this book. It is well worth the time to read it and will make you anxious for the next installment.

Such a great story with captivating characters, and Harold the cat. What a sweetie!

I really enjoyed this book. I love historical romances, and Michelle Willingham is one of my favorite authors. You get lost in her stories, and her characters.

I really liked Taryn and Killian, as individual characters and as a couple. Two lonely people with more issues than your local magazine stand. Lol But seriously, what they've gone through and went through makes you feel sad and angry. I'm so glad they overcame them.

This book made me laugh and cry. I cried. I did. Plus, there's a twist that I really didn't see coming. It never even crossed my mind. Nowadays in a lot of books, you can see the twist coming. For me, in this book, I did not.

Just one thing that bothered me, but didn't take away from my rating was that there was maybe a little too much of he thinks she wouldn't/doesn't want me for such and such reason, or she thinks he wouldn't/doesn't want me for this or that reason.

It is about two people who feel they aren't good enough for the other (whether because of physical appearance, social or financial status, etc), and don't get me wrong, I don't mind those books at all. For the most part, I love them because the hero or heroine does come to realize that they are good enough despite their circumstances. It just took longer than usual for them to see that. But that's okay, because they do overcome it, and it's such a great romance. Loved it!

This historical romance set in Ireland 1172 is a rather nice take on the beauty and the beast theme - where it's the heroine who's physically scarred having been attacked by dogs as a child.

Really enjoyed this one - loved the plot - heroine defies her mother to try and rescue her father who is about to be executed for treason. I liked the fact that there was a very good chance her father was guilty of the crime he was accused of - no black and white heroes and villains here.

Also loved the romance - Killian the hunky bastard warrior had a huge chip on his shoulder was a really strong hero and well matched by his courageous lady. The romance was convincing and took the time for emotional build.

The historical setting with the political unrest between Normans and Irish lords makes a refreshing change from Normans/Saxons or Highlanders which are more common in this type of period romance.

Big thumbs up from me this is definitely one of the better historicals I've read lately and has earned it's place in the keepers pile.

The Celtic life in 1172 is the focus of this tale. Taryn is trying to free her father from imprisonment or beg for his life to be spared. The opposing clan chieftain prefers to put his enemies to death. A burly guard of the hill fort becomes an unlikely ally for the girl. This man, Killian, was born outside the blanket and feels himself without a true clan loyalty since he has been treated as a servant.

The details of food, clothing, and travels are well described to bring this time to life for us. The pair must journey to the hill of Tara where Taryn can plead her case to the High King. The pair are small parts of the overall wars between High King Rory and Queen Maedbh so they have no guarantees of any sort and are vulnerable while they travel. Taryn is not used to being considered attractive, because her face has been scarred. And Killian is not used to having a family or love to call his own. A good read and an adult romance.
