The Nicholas Cases: Casualties of Justice

Rate this book
THE NICHOLAS CASES contains accounts of ten cases that illustrate serious failings in the UK judicial system. In recent years, changes brought in to criminal justice have made convictions easier to obtain; at the same time, the appeals system no longer functions efficiently - with the result that a perfect storm of injustice has been created.

Extraordinary.
Bob Woffinden was an incredible investigative journalist and his analytical research of the cases in this book show an attention to detail that many of us would love to have.
Some are better know but all are fascinating. The Andrew Malkinson case is covered in detail, long before his eventual release
The Jonathan King case shows that the evidence against him was thin (to say the least) even though that may be unpalatable

One of the chapters is about my uncle!!!! This a disrespectful and disgusting to find that Bob! Has not spoke to my family or even knows my uncle! You can tell he has spoken to the woman who killed my uncle!!!!!!

Very interesting read. This book walks through 10 cases where the author has done extensive research and has come to the conclusion that a miscarriage of justice has occurred. Every case is presented from the crown prosecution service's perspective first, and then the author shoots down most if not all of the evidence against the defendant one by one. The author succeeds in convincing the reader in some cases that a miscarriage has occurred and in other cases it is a bit difficult to agree with the author. But I would recommend this book to every one interested in the justice system as it demonstrates the flaws in the system, how the crown/judiciary have better rewards in convicting people irrespective of their guilt, how the politicians have ruined the system further in a quest to appease the general population.

In a way we the people are as much responsible for the state of the judiciary as the people in power and sadly we may never understand the consequences until we ourselves get trapped in the system.

The book confirms much of mine own discoveries and I find it absolutely horrifying. From an emotional perspective very emotional and hard to read. The sense of helplessness against our own human nature. It is clear that , in general people are totally incapable of thinking clearly for themselves. No wonder advertising is so effective. So basically all those in courts are incapable of been objective, impartial and reasonable. The judge, police, crown prosecution service (CPS) and prosecution plus those who make the law, review the law and possesses to ensure justice, with total impunity, are corrupt. The aim is not justice but cover up and convictions. The book highlights that real evidence is not significance but “concocted evidence” to put on a bias show to hookwink a jury. Very easily done. So clearly many criminals are part of the justice system itself. That includes defence lawyers who are often inept.
I will purchase myself my own copy of this book when I can afford to do so.
