When prostitutes turn up dead in Phoenix, not much attention is paid. But when a pattern of disturbing murders is discovered, the local police soon realize a serial killer is on a rampage and they are in way over their heads. Given the unique nature of the crimes, the FBI, called in, knows they will need their most brilliant mind to crack the case: Special Agent Riley Paige.
Riley, recovering from her last case and trying to pick up the pieces of her life, is at first reluctant. But when she learns of the grievous nature of the crimes and realizes the killer will soon strike again, she is compelled. She begins her hunt for the elusive killer and her obsessive nature takes her too far—perhaps too far, this time, to pull herself back from the brink.
Riley’s search leads her into the unsettling world of prostitutes, of broken homes, and shattered dreams. She learns that, even amongst these women, there are glimpses of hope, hope being robbed by a violent psychopath. When a teenage girl is abducted, Riley, in a frantic race against time, struggles to probe the depths of the killer’s mind. But what she discovers leads her to a twist that is too shocking for even her to imagine.
A dark psychological thriller with heart-pounding suspense, ONCE CRAVED is book #3 in a riveting new series—with a beloved new character—that will leave you turning pages late into the night.

As always, any book about Riley Paige is going to have a thrilling plot, a list of many possible suspects, and some scary side plots going on as well. These are all written so well, well thought out plots. I recommend this entire series!
I have throughly enjoyed this series so far but the stories are now starting to feel a bit samey. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the others, but only for this reason really.
I may take a little break before deciding whether to move onto book 4
The Riley Paige mystery series (this is book 3) is an enjoyably mystery series featuring a FBI Special Agent tracking, identifying and bringing down the worst of criminals. Special Agent Riley has a heightened sense about these serial monsters since she was once captured by one and almost his victim. That brings baggage, strength and special intuition too.
I like the series overall, and really appreciate the way Blake Pierce writes without using excessive vulgarity.
This book had a quite a bit of personal and family drama mixed in between the mystery and profiling of the serial killer who was preying on prostitutes in AZ. The ending was a bit of a surprise - well done.
I’m intrigued and look forward to reading a lot more of her work.
Book 3 in the Riley Paige Series and I have grown very fond of this authors writing. Her books and mystery books always have me guessing until the very end of the book. This was the first book where I thought the person they were speaking to was the actual killer. I figured I was wrong because in her books I am ALWAYS wrong :) Not this time though. I didn't actually get who it was until the last chapter so maybe that doesn't count LOL
Riley Paige is divorced to a man who has no time for anyone unless they worship the ground he walks on. They have a daughter April and he can't be bothered to come to her when she needs him. He's a really winner of a man NOT!!! April suffered some trauma recently due to her mothers job and even though he could have lost his daughter to a madman he still can't be bothered to come to her rescue. Ryan is a loser.
April is a 15 year old girl with a huge chip on her shoulder and she acts out often and blames her mom (Riley) for everything. Riley never shares any of the details with her daughter and I think she should have. I think kids need to know what is out there. I think kids (girls) need to have some amount of fear or they will be living in a giant bubble.
This book a man was praying on hookers. He made them feel special and then killed them. Bill and Riley had to find him before more women were killed.
I highly recommend this whole series to all mystery/thriller lovers.
Riley is at it again. Everytime I read one of her books I am amazed by how smart and strong she is. Riley and April are both struggling after being kidnapped in book 2. Riley and her partner are off to investigate the death of prostitutes. While she is gone she is having issues. She is struggling trying to balance her work and her family. She feels she needs to be with April but she cannot walk away from her job. I really loved reading about these cases. They are all new and different and each one is unique in their own way.
I got a bit disappointed with this one, a lot of fake feminism for my liking.. it describes a huge problem of society but in a toxic kind of way. I find it kind of hard to believe that our beloved heroine has just yet discovered that prostitution is a problem and that women in the “business” are being treated bad... that might be news for someone like me, but it shouldn’t be for an FBI agent with her experience. A certainly not the point that she starts to lash out at any / all men around and saying “i’m done with men..”. Also I get why Riley needed to talk to that prisoner last time - the chain expert, but this time it just felt out of place, I understand he might be building up to be her arch nemesis in the series ( after maybe running away ?? ) but it should have had some point other then “ you are getting close “.

3.5 stars. FBI agent Riley Paige teaches FBI Academy students about serial killers. Her PTSD is decreasing and she's enjoying time away from the field. A prostitute's body is found in a lake. Since Riley is the serial killer expert, she's asked to take the case, reuniting her with her old partner Bill.
Over the past 3 books, I've developed a liking for Riley. Her character has developed and she's a better mother now. She still has anger issues that lead to impulsiveness and potential violence. Any other agent would have been fired except she has something special within her that makes her get into the killers minds. After the first book, I wasn't sure I really wanted to read another one, but now I'm ready for the next book.
I did struggle a little with this book, but I will admit the action kept me turning the page. The main character was already suffering greatly at the start of this series, and the events of the first two books certainly haven't helped matters. The plot points came thick and fast, and while I seriously question this style of the BAU that the author is pushing forward, I can get behind it. The climax came upon us very late, along with some rather surprising sharp left turns plot wise that seemed to diffuse tension, rather than increase it. I would have preferred a little more resolution, but I'll have to read the next in the series soon.
I spent most of this book asking myself why I kept listening to it when I was so irritated with it. The female MC makes so so so many poor choices. Yet we're supposed to believe she's incredibly intelligent and just magically knows when people are telling the truth BUT ALSO randomly loses that ability when it suits the plot so that she needs to seek out other opinions.
Someone needs to explain to me why TF she would need to go see her father, who she hates AND ALSO some random serial murderer she put away to give her insight into the person she's currently hunting!?!? There is zero consistency in her characterization and it drove me bananas.
Not to mention this is book 3 and the father of her daughter is barely mentioned throughout these books - we are truly expected to believe he's been present in her life and a relatively active father BUT DOES NOT CARE WHEN HIS DAUGHTER GETS KIDNAPPED!?!?! (okay that was book 1 but I'm still angry) Yet both the daughter and the female MC acts like that's okay and that it's normal in the sense that he is still her father...
Riley also was constantly making stupid decisions. And making incredibly condescending proclamations about sex work in this book - how all sex workers are bound to have STIs, and destined to be on crack. Basically I hated that I finished the book and wished i had DNFd it but the narrator was good, I definitely will not be reading any more.
I just love these Riley Paige mysteries!!! This has been my least favorite so far - just because the serial killer is a typical prostitute killer and not as original as the killers in the first two books - but it is still great!
Book three in the Riley Paige series and it is a great addition to the series. Riley is a brilliant FBI agent who is dealing with PTSD, from a prior case. Riley is the go to agent when a serial killer case comes up. Riley had a strained relationship with her daughter, April, by many times putting a case she was working on before her daughter. Together Riley and April worked their issues, and thankfully they now have a wonderful relationship. It’s been very interesting how emotionally Riley is evolving into a much stronger woman. I definitely recommend this series.
Initially I loved the Riley Page both of the series - The Making of Riley Paige and the Riley Paige Mystery. But they started to be all of the same predictable storyline. I have been listening to the audiobooks which may be partly why I cannot get through this book. The narrator is making Riley sound whiny.
4...Better than the last two...quick read for sure!!! I am enjoying Riley's storyline a little more, even though most of the things she does, a FBI agent would never get away with...but whatever, I like it anyway!
really enjoyed the first two of this series and although it was a while ago I read them I picked it up again easily , another great read i listened to the audio version and although it bothered me that it is set in America and narrated by an English woman,I look forward to reading the next one
This third installment of the Riley Paige Mystery series was such a breath of fresh air for me. So often, by the time you get to the third book of a series, the writing has become repetitive and the characters are stale. The story is either unoriginal or perhaps is starting to feel too drawn-out and the reader just gets bored. This happens all the time, but *not* with Once Craved.
In this story, Riley is off and running on a new case, but really concerned about what is happening at home. It's clear that her daughter is struggling with the aftermath of having gotten caught up in Riley's last case. Riley's current case shows her some of the darkest dangers facing teen girls, and that those who have already been victimized somehow are particularly at risk. Every moment of the case makes Riley think about her daughter at home and all she is dealing with. Never has she been so torn between work and home.
At the same time that we have the case going on, and the worries about her daughter and the typical teenager/parent dynamics that spice up every family, there is also a potential romantic interest developing. The result is that here we have the perfect concoction of new story elements, character development, and existing situation enrichment. I continue to be so excited about Riley Paige Mysteries and am eager to begin the next book as soon as possible!
I understand how Riley finds it difficult to pick between her job or her child, but likes how April is mature enough to understand that her mother is needed to help save other people. I want to see Bill and Riley become a couple. I'm really enjoying this series.
Entertaining read, but I thought it was easy to guess who the killer was. Also, I hope the story line with the criminal consultation is done and not continued in the next books, I think this part is stupid.
I have only received the front cover of this book plus the placement file page plus the review page. Can you tell me what has happened to the rest of the pages of my book.
