Wow, this kicked up the authors game! I love, love, loved this book! Amazing Fae story! Vampires, werewolves and all kinds of fairys, and one lone werewolf woke in an a unfamiliar place and thrust into a crazy situation and it works! I loved it! The twist is shocking!
That was a really clever and inventive story, couldn't put it down. Interesting "fae" characters, sympathetic humans, sort of believable events. Loved it! I read it for free on Kindle, but I might be enticed to pay for the sequel!
This was first published on my blog " Lecture toute une Aventure"
Love it!!! really it was fabulous, i was interested after checking the blurb but this story has surpassed all my expectations ( even if they were high) .
Suddenly, Fae are appearing in our world but for most of them it's not by their own volition so they are here lost and afraid and sometimes hurt...that's what happened to Aleric a werewolf who wake up in a hospital confused about how he got there and where it is exactly....however as soon as he heard the cries of another fae he jumps into action mode and do his best to help her...finding himself acting as a doctor even if he has a lot to learn himself he is moved by the need of his fellows companions and becomes their protector. he is hurt and as confused as they can be but he acts and i really loved that about him how he could be so honest and caring.
Fae politics are put aside for a moment in this strange world for them so werewolf, fairy and vampire band together to transform the wing of the hospital so that they can become theirs with the help of the few humans knowing the truth... Dr Worthen and Lauren, the nurse, ( and gregory) are confronted to strange patients and suddenly they understand that they can hurt them even more by trying to help so when a patient suddenly act like a doctor and seems to know what is happening they decide to entrust him with the new discovered fae even if they are sometimes dubious and sometimes afraid they want most of all heal all their patient.. I loved to see them true to their vow and how resourceful they could be because of course not every human is friendly .
There is a lot of action and some suspense but i loved to learn more about Blays universe and to see Aleric discovering bits of info about how to treat fae from other ones...each individual is helping in a way sharing his knowledge when they would probably have ignored each other while in their world. i loved to see the diversity. Dartan is really interesting as well.
there is a a small cliffhanger for sure but to be honest i loved this one so much that i really want to read the next cliffhanger or not i want to see why the rift exactly, the past of Aleric and how he will adjust. A story to discoverfor all urban fantasy lovers
I really enjoy the characters in Cheree Alsop’s stories. They are really heroes but they suffer along the way, successfully winning the day only to stumble toward the next challenge. I find myself always ready for her next book!
Shockwave is the first in the Fae Rift series, and it introduces us very nicely to our world, and the parallel world where the Fae reside. Something is happening, but no one is sure what, and Fae are being thrown (usually violently) from their world into ours. Aleric wakes up in hospital, with no recollection that he is in a new world, and helps to save the life of a faery. Suddenly, his knowledge is needed to save the lives of other Fae, whether they are Light or Dark. With unexpected allies, Aleric needs to find a way to send the Fae back to where they belong, before things get out of hand.
This was a witty, fast-paced, and humorous start to a series, and I was thoroughly engrossed in it! Aleric himself is an outstanding character, but he has an amazing supporting cast in the shape of Dr Worthen, Nurse Eastwick, Dr Indley, Dartan, and Tranquility, to name but a few. This story is finished but also has an opening for the next book.
Very well written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow, this is a wonderful book, and I look forward to reading more in this series.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *
Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! Dec 14, 2016
This is a strange little story but really good all the same. Aleric wakes in the hospital and doesn't know what's going on. He surrounded by strange people and strange things. When her hears the screams of pain coming from the fairy in the next room, he find her being tortured with the IV that's in her arm. When he moves her into a wing under construction to put her in the sun, the medical staff are amazed that she healed. There was a Rift torn into the land of the fae. When some of them fell into this world, they were injured. The hospital is the first line to protect them until they can find a way home. Throw in a cocky Vampire, a psychopathic Fairy and a raging demon and now they are having fun. I just Love Cheree Alsop. She is one of my favorite writers, but I had a little issue with this book. If they come from an alternate reality, why do they know so much about ours? That was the one hiccup for me. Otherwise, the characters are well thought out and have brilliant personalities. This is a charming story of a werewolf being pulled into something that might be a little too big but he pulls it off.
Shockwave- Dr. Wolf (The Fae Rift Book 1) Written by Cheree Alsop Genre: Paranormal
Aleric Bayne wakes up in a hospital and is confused as to what all is going on. He hears a girl screaming in pain and goes to investigate and finds that it is a fairy. He runs to help her and finds that he is now in the human world and not the fae world that he is from.
Wow! Was not expecting enjoying this book as much as I did. Ms. Alsop had me drawn in from the get go. The writing was fantastic, the story just flowed so easily and I could not put the book down. I enjoyed all the characters and love her imagination. The banter with the characters had me laughing out loud (I love the fairy and the vampire).
I really enjoyed the story line and the whole what if of falling into a rift. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a nice fresh look on paranormal. Great Job Ms. Alsop and I can’t wait to read the rest!
***I was given a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher****
I'm hooked on another series by Cheree! She doesn't disappoint. Imagine running along, falling, and then waking up in a strange hospital! Me, I'd be totally freaking out, but Aleric is determined to find out who's screaming in pain next to him (despite a major headache) and when he sees it's a fae, he promptly tries to help her! And then culture shock - he's not in Kansas (Blays) anymore. He "fell" into a completely "human" world. A place where fae are nothing but myths. So Aleric becomes "Dr. Wolf" as he tries to help the human staff of the hospital's ER deal with the influx of fae. Even though he's not a doctor. What an incredible new adventure to follow as he does his very best. Werewolves, vampires, fairies, and banshees - oh, my!
Aleric is a werewolf who is very far from home. He doesn't know how he got to this new world but he is going to figure it out. Along with some new friends from his world new adventure will begin. I'm top of it all he ends up in a hospital and is not thrown into the role of Doctor. He is taking care of his fellow fae creatures. My favorite supporting characters is Dartan the vampire. There is also Tranquility the fairy who is a hoot! I'm excited to see the new characters in the next book. This is just part one of his story and I'm excited to see where it ends up.
Author Alsop and her Dr Wolf cast have me hooked. He fights in a strange new world and becomes a strange new self. The last pages are a preview to demons and romance.
This book was a ton of fun! I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series! Aleric is a great character and his compassion, born of necessity, is refreshing. Thanks for a fun read!
At last I'm diving into the myriad novels we picked up at Comic-Con last year. This book was an easy, fun story. Heck, I read it in a day. The fact that Alsop ends her story and doesn't belabor the point is definitely worth points in my book for this book.
Our protagonist, Aleric, awakes in a hospital with little memory of what's happened. Before long we learn he's a werewolf -- in this milieu a fae from a parallel world called Blays. Aleric quickly discovers he's not the only one suddenly stranded on this strange world of Earth, and he quickly steps up to aid other fae in need and the various hospital staff who frankly are a bit overwhelmed with things like fairies, vampires and fauns showing up in their emergency room. Just a handful of pages over two hundred, it's quick and enjoyable. My favorite parts were perhaps the banter Aleric gets from vampire Dartan who begins to help Dr. Wolf.
Even better, Alsop pulls off a few twists that, looking back at earlier parts I can see the set-up. The best part is that they were surprises. I like it when I can think, "Well how are they going to get out of this? Oh! Oh hey, I can see what their doing now. They talked about it earlier. Cool!" And it was cool. Also, even though it's short, Alsop gives us interesting character developments as Aleric moves beyond self-preservation and as his patients begin to see him as more than what they usually would.
Anyhow. Fun book. Read it in a day and I don't regret a thing. I may just have to read more.
This one makes me very sad because most of it was amazing. It starts out with a very unique premise and that is saying something in the current world where every idea is just a rehash. The execution is also very entertaining. It's cozy and light-hearted. The world-building behind it doesn't really make a lot of sense but it's a case where realism would get in the way of a really good story so it's not a problem at all.
Sadly the book doesn't know where to go and just kind of meanders without a proper goal which is still fun because the idea itself is unique, interesting, and refreshing. But the conclusion went completely wrong. The climax is fine, if uninspired, but the wrap-up is horrifically cheesy and sounds like a middle-grade book with the intention to teach mutual respect and tolerance by painfully obvious example. It's like the characters act out acceptance and respect in a very exaggerated way in the hopes that even the particularly slow kids will pick up on it. There already was a thread of this throughout the book but it was subtle enough to not get in the way of the story and I fully agree with the message itself. But the way the end beats the reader over the head with it just feels so incredibly patronizing and unnecessary. It's this belittling virtue signaling that just rubs me the wrong way. Without this horrible ending, I would have rated this 4 stars, and even though I enjoyed the earlier parts of the book I now feel no desire anymore to get the second one.
Delightful Culture Shock of Fae in the Real World!
I loved this from the instant Aleric woke up in an unfamiliar place—I quickly caught on to two key facts: that it was a hospital, and that he didn't know what a hospital was. That alone is enough to hook my curiosity about who (or what) he might be, and what's going on. Swift introduction of fairies, vampires, and other fae folk immediately build the world around him, and it's a world I want to know more about. Without spoiling the plot, a bunch of fae people from a fae world crashed into the real world and both the fae and the humans are a chaotic mess. It's fabulous! Great characters from both fae and human populations, and their interactions (especially first impressions) are priceless.
This book is very enjoyable, but it does end on a cliffhanger. At least the major concern of the plot is completed, as far as can be done, before the last couple pages offer a new challenge. Could probably be read as a standalone, but I know I went straight out and bought book two.
At times the writing was very amateurish for a writer with supposedly 50 awards to her name, but it was highly readable and fast paced. I do think she threw her hero into so many walls that it strained the limits of credibility, even for a supernatural creature. However, she does write wonderful dialogue with a decent amount of banter. The character interactions were the best part of the book.
This didn’t go exactly how I thought it would. Yes, it was fast paced and full of action, but I wasn’t drawn to any of the characters and found them all to be just one dimensional for the most part. The premise was intriguing, but in execution it fell short of the mark.
Portals between worlds. Getting mistaken for a doctor. Fights to save damsels in danger. check's many of the boxes for a.fun read. The major criticism is it is a start of a series
A rift in space, and fae are raining in to Edge City. Dr. Worthen and his nurse are confronted with patients that they would never were trained to help. Along comes Aleric the werewolf. Fascinating story. All creatures can earn to get along.
