Hi Romance Fans,

My historical romances are full of heat, humor, and quirky characters. I’ve always loved history, which was my college major. Things of the past fascinate me. Not those boring history classes in high school, but the history of people. How they lived their lives, what they ate, what they wore, the challenges they faced, what they worried about.

I have recently delved into Historical Cozy Mysteries. My very first one, For the Love of the Baron, a Historical Romantic Suspense novella, spurred me to try a full length, non-romance focused cozy mystery. A Study in Murder released last year from Crooked Lane Publishing, and the reviews have been excellent. The second book, The Sign of Death, released this year and the next book, The Mystery of Albert E. Finch will release in January of 2022.

I've also been busy keeping up with my Regency/Victorian romances. Check out my latest series, The Rose Room Rogues. Four brothers who own a gambling club and find themselves caught in the net of love.

Watch for my new Highlander series, The Sutherlands of Dornoch. The first book in that series, To Deceive a Highlander, will release March 30th.

Take a look around my website and check out some of the books I write, and their lovely covers. www.calliehutton.com

I enjoyed this outside of the box read. Adelaide had to deal with the harsh hand that was left to her once she lost her family. Then to be thrown in to jail, and then to learn she could marry a stranger or stay a prisoner- it didn't seem like life was fair. Then good old Miles comes along, ready to snatch her up- though he decides to leave out something that could totally break the marriage deal for Adelaide.

I liked the storyline, the real feelings I felt when Adelaide experienced some anguishing moments, and I loved the ending. I also like Miles family.

I think the story could have used better editing, but overall quite enjoyable. I look forward to knowing the secrets of the other women left to find a husband - whom were in jail with Adelaide.

This story had a lot of potential and all the characters were lovely, but the plot and characters felt a bit under developed. At 128 pages, I think there was just far too few pages for it to work.

It wasn't that nothing happened, plenty occured within the limited pages of this book, but it all felt a bit disjointed. I think had there been more pages for this book and its characters to be fleshed out a bit more, then everything would have flowed a lot better and I would have been able to give it a higher rating.

Although I wasn't too impressed with this book, I am curious about the other women's stories(especially the murderer) and I enjoy Callie Hutton's books so I will be giving the other books in the series a try.

This was the first novel I read by Callie Hutton. The premise is a good one - four women are in jail, having committed various crimes - they either face a judge, or join up on a wagon trail as a mail order bride. By the way, their chaperone is a former brothel owner :)

While this story had potential, the characters and overall plot came across as a little weak and under developed. I was hoping for a little more substance and detail.

It would have been especially interesting if the author would have made a connection, or at least included some kind of conversation between Adelaide's and her mother - in - law with regards to their common loss.

Now on to Book #2 in the series...

More like Express Delivery Bride

I enjoyed this story very much. I’m still a bit skeptical of mail-order bride books but I’m warming up to them. Miles and Adelaide make a great couple. Two strong people who were meant to be together.

There ended up not to be any mailing of a bride. Miles needed a wife, saw Adelaide, who was one of four women being sent to Santa Fe as MOBs. “I’ll take her!” And the deal was done. At this point there was some eye rolling 🙄 but how wrong I was.

The family immediately embarked on a five week wagon train to Santa Fe, and spent every second together getting to know each other. Adelaide put no-nonsense order into Miles’ young daughters and Miles slowly started falling in love (not that he was admitting that to anyone). These two probably spent more time together in those five weeks than most couples spend together before moving in/marrying these days. That made the storyline believable to me.

Don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t all rainbows and care bears. Both individually and as a couple, Miles and Adelaide had a lot to work through. You’ll enjoy reading about it.

Adelaide Markham is one of four female prisoners sitting in the Dodge City, Kansas, jail in 1877.  The judge is too drunk to hear their pleads but the sheriff offers to let the women leave with the wagon train heading to Santa Fe, New Mexico if they will agree to be mail-order brides.

Adelaide has just lost her child and isn't of a mind to be a mother again.  However, she prefers to leave on the wagon train. Miles Ryan has a problem staying on the wagon train because of his two difficult daughters.  The wagon master has insisted Miles find a wife or stay behind.

So Miles does the gutless thing of not telling Adelaide that he has 2 difficult daughters until they arrive back at the wagon train (after their marriage, so it's too late for her to back out).

I was impressed with the writing; it was professional and entertaining.  This is the first book of a series of 4 (see below). Each of the women was in jail for a different reason.  All of them were logical and possible.  I plan to look into the next story on Cinnamon. Overall score = 4.5 stars.

When Adelaide loses her husband and child to influenza her world falls apart. She has no home, no money and no food. When she is propositioned after being found in an abandoned building, and she turns him down she ends up in jail for being a vagrant. She's left with no choice when the sheriff tells the ladies in his jail that they will be going to Dodge City and be mail order brides or stay in jail. She decides she has no choice. When the wagon train comes through to head to Dodge City she comes across Miles Ryan who needs a wife to care for his two daughters. She readily agrees to marry him and follow him to his family farm.
Beautiful short, historical romance!

I have been provided with a review copy of Adelaide by the author for an impartial review. This is the first book in the Prisoners of Love-Mail Order Brides series and what it was a great way to introduce these characters. In this book you get to see Adelaide and Miles find their way with each other and find their happily ever after. This book just had me so emotional with what these characters had gone through I was just trying not to cry whenever something sad was mentioned. I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series.

very nice

A very nice book to read written by Callie Hutton. It is written very well. This is an enjoyable book to read with strong characters. A bride to a man who need a wife in order to stay on the wagon train. A woman who must merry in order to stay out of jail, because the sheriff said she had to marry. An enjoyable book.

Adelaide went through one of the worth this a women can when she barries her little girl. Then to get thrown in jail and given the choice of prison or marriage, she basically has no choice at all. Then add Miles and his two little girls Lizzie and Beth Ann, just wow.

Exciting!

A fun read of a widow who is jailed for being destitute and then pushed into becoming a mail order bride to keep from going to prison. She ends up with a good man and two sweet, rascals for daughters.

Mother Again

Adelaide didn't want any more children after both her husband and daughter died. When Miles married her he didn't mention that he already had 2 daughters who needed a mother. How could this marriage survive.

Adelaide. Prissoners of Love

I didn’t like the girls father all he could think of was going to bed with Adelaide as soon as he set eyes on her. He only lost his wife 3 months earlier yet couldn’t wait to get her into bed.

The premise was good but I was bored the entire time I was reading it. It lacked excitement, the characters weren’t engaging enough, and I just don’t see myself picking up the next book.

Tricked into motherhood

I wouldn't want to be a mail order bride. Unless my husband was like Miles. What a hunk! I would have loved more pranks from the demon sisters.

This is my 1st time reading Callie Hutton, but it won't be the last. I absolutely loved Adelaide, Prisoners of Love. Heartbroken over the loss of her husband and young daughter to fever, Adelaide is convinced she no longer needs or wants love of any kind in her life. The pain of losing someone just isn't worth it giving her heart to another. But she does need a home or the sheriff is going to send her to prison for loitering. As luck would have it, widower Miles is part of the wagon train heading to Santa Fe and in need of a wife. He asks Adelaide to marry him. Dashing and handsome, Adelaide is a bit reluctant to accept his offer, but then agrees. Surely, someone as kind as him is better than a jail cell. But when she meets his two young, hellish daughters, she wonders what she's gotten herself in to.

Adelaide and Miles make for a great heroine and hero. I enjoyed watching them overcome grief to forge a path toward becoming a family, and reining in his wayward daughters. Miss Hutton did an exceptional job wrenching up Adelaide's angst and turmoil over guarding her heart vs. allowing someone else entrance. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

I absolutely loved this story and highly recommend it! Adelaide is the start of a new series for Callie Hutton. She is a widow who lost her husband and seven year old daughter to influenza, and is in jail with three other women in Dodge City, KS. The marshal doesn't know what to do with them until the best brothel in town burns down and the owner, Nellie Ward, tells him she doesn't care if she stays in Dodge City or moves on. He decides to tell the ladies in jail that they will either become mail order brides chaperoned by Nellie on a wagon train to Santa Fe, New Mexico, or possibly go to prison. Adelaide's decision is made for her when Miles Ryan rides into town looking for one of the mail order brides he had just heard about, and he tells the marshal and her that he wants her for his bride. Thus starts the adventures of Adelaide and Miles.

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review, and was not compensated in any way. My thoughts are my own.

Prisoners of love: Adelaide by Callie Hutton is an exciting beginning to a new series. Book 1 in "Prisoners of Love - Mail Order".

In love with this series

What a wonderful start to a series. Adelaide was in dire straits and the only way she had of surviving with her honor intact was to marry. Which is where the book really began. I loved how there was not a rush for the main characters to fall in love but rather they took their time. Miles was wonderful and funny. His little girls were completely out of hand. He needed a mother for them. It was great reading the ups and downs of these four people becoming a family. My favorite quote from Miles, “Life is full of risks, honey. If we try to avoid them, we would never leave our homes. If fear wins, we lose.” This is true in real life also. Can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Nothing like a trip by wagon train

Love the historical romances. Adelaide had lost her husband and daughter to influenza. She declared she would never be a mother again. Miles Ryan had lost his wife Eve, he is left raising two little girls. Miles need a wife and Adelaide needs a husband so that she can get out of prison. Wonderful love story.

All Girls Wow

Two people finding themselves falling in love with each other. Adelaide was a Mail Order Bride without realizing she was going to be married to this wonderful man who entered her life. One thing was very much decided on when she lost her little girl and husband to influenza. She promised herself no babies again. Time will tell.
