Even before Julie B Cosgrove became a multi-published, award-winning novelist, she’d developed a passion for words at a young age. She solved the word games in the daily newspapers. She and her mother shared many fun hours playing Scrabble. Then, another passion developed― whodunnits. She loved the Charlie Chan, Sherlock Holmes, and Hercule Perot movies that played on Saturday afternoons on TV. Nancy Drew and the romantic mystery novels of the late Mary Stewart kept her eyes dancing over the pages through her school years. Now, she has mysteries stacked up on her watchlist on Britbox and a long list of cozies on her ereader’s to-be-read list.

Later in her adult life, her passion for Christ spurred her to write faith-based fiction and devotionals for several publications, which she has been doing since 2009. Her blog, Where Did You Find God Today? now has readers in over fifty countries.

But her passion remains mystery, the cozier the better. When her sister asked her, “Why don’t you write them?”, she pondered it and decided to give it a go. Her first, Dumpster Dicing, won Best Mystery by the Texas Association of Authors in 2017. Since then, she has been contracted to write a total of 12 mysteries, nine of which have been published as of early 2021. She has three series―The Bunco Biddies Mysteries, The Relatively Seeking Mysteries, and the Wordplay Mysteries.

I am not a big fan of novellas, but this one was very well done. The hero was swoon worthy as a Navy doctor with spot on, faith-based advise to the heroine who just caught her fiance in bed with another woman. They are on a flight back to Fort Worth from Hawaii and are beset with numerous mishaps: plane problems, missed connections, a sprained ankle, and pouring rain. An easy, short read great for a reading break on a busy day.

Navy Blues by Julie Cosgrove is book #7 in the "Love is . . ." series by Prism Book Group and explores "love is not self-seeking." Releasing on Memorial Day weekend is genious - and this novella is a great read for the weekend!

Emma West had traveled a long way to see her fiancée, Trey, only to find him in bed with another woman. Running away she ends up seated on an airplane next to Dr. Ryan MacKenzie. a lieutenant in the Navy who is returning soon to civilian life. Through a series of misadventures she begins to find her heart falling for the handsome doctor and his ability to help her out in any crisis.

Discovering their final destination is in the same town knits their journey together further as they seek to return there in good time. Trials and heartache are shared as they navigate the journey. Upon returning home though Ryan gives Emma wide berth because he believes she needs time to be without a man, to recover, before starting a relationship with him. His return into her life though comes in a timely manner as Trey arrives to try to convince Emma he needs her.

Emma realizes all he really needed as her father's wealth and connections. But cutting ties isn't always easy and Ryan steps in to help.

This story is filled with adventure and romance. Ryan is as faithful and protective. Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed reading this story about Emma and Ryan. I really liked that Ryan was always doing what was best for Emma, even though it didn’t seem that way to her at times.
This wasn’t a long book but was well worth the read. I would recommend it.

Who hasn’t experienced a break up or been disappointed by romantic love in some way? There aren’t many people exempted from those kinds of trials at some point or another, and I think that’s what prompted me to want to read this novella by Julie Cosgrove. That, and the hero is a military man; my brother has served in the armed forces, so finding a (mostly) lighthearted story involving someone who has served is a draw for me, regardless of genre or setting.

Emma is coming off a bad breakup—finding her fiancée with another woman bad. Her hastily booked plane ticket and a fussy toddler are what put her into Ryan’s path. Flying is always an adventure with all of the things that can go wrong, but here many circumstances serve to throw our main characters together for an extended amount of time allowing the relationship to develop quickly.

While this is a novella and the shorter length prevents a really in-depth story, I did find the characters developed for the most part. Motivations are clear; personalities and circumstances can account for any moments that may seem out of character. The spiritual thread had some meat to it, and though I would have liked a bit more development in that part of the novella, I’m sure length plays a part in that, too.

Overall, this is a cute, fun story that is an enjoyable escape from the mundane. There are enough twists to keep things interesting and I like that it isn’t completely predictable even while providing a satisfying ending. I would recommend this novella as a beach or rainy-day read for those who enjoy contemporary romance.

I received a complimentary electronic copy of this novella in exchange for this honest review. All of the opinions expressed are my own.

Navy Blues I have a soft spot for ‘meeting on an airplane’ romance and for military men so this romance was perfect for me. Emma plans to surprise her fiancé however she is the one surprised when she finds him in bed with another woman. I was surprised we didn’t explore how much she really loved him if she hadn’t planned to visit him over her spring break. As Emma is trying to quickly get home from her disastrous visit, she ends up on the plan next to a navy doctor. There are some very touching moments and some funny moments as they get to know each other. I don’t want to ruin any of the scenes but I went from ‘oh no you did not’ to sigh worthy in just a matter of pages. I definitely recommend. There is also the undertone of faith and values and making good dating decisions; even after you have made a mistake.

I received this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.

Flying home, after discovering her husband-to-be had just cheated on her, Emma just wants to figure out how to go on with her life. She has no interest in the handsome doctor who ends up next to her, but love takes a different course.

I really liked these characters from the start, especially Ryan who was just an all around gentleman. They both were down to earth kind of people, and honest about not being perfect.

This is a definite read for those fond of a contemporary, Christian story.

Navy Blues

Emma and Ryan meet on a plane and she has just broken up with her boyfriend and is upset. They find out both are going the same direction. But they have quite a adventure trying to get there. He is just getting out of Navy and is a doctor. Poor Emma definitely has her problems and Ryan helps put a lot. I received this book from the Prism book group in exchange for a honest review. This is a really good short story and second book I have read by Julie B Cosgrove, I really love her writing.

Right people right time

This was an adorable short story. I read it in two sittings. Not to put a personal story into a review but I talked to a pest control operator on the phone today and she was blown away by the message in my email address alone. She was so encouraging on a down day. I felt like she was the right person to talk to at the right time. That's what this book is like. Two people thrown together by chance at just the right time. Very good read and I only wish it would be longer so I could read

Julie B. Cosgrove warms the heart with this sweet love story. Emma's heartbreak, a plane trip shared with the Navy doctor who switched seats to sit next to her, a rented car, and an injured ankle all work together in this delightful story of love, patience, and hope.

I adored Ryan and Emma. Their romance was cute and sweet. I love the advice Ryan gave Emma, it was very wise and I think it helped her to discover what she really wanted, what she really cared about and who she really was. He blew me away when he told her that he had been praying for her.
