Let me start by saying the synopsis for this book immediately caught my attention. A story about such a sensitive subject could either be a drama-filled saga or one of true love. Sister Surrogate was a truly a journey filled with many emotions.

Sister Surrogate reminds us that we might have good intentions to help someone in a "bad" situation, but sometimes we need to stop and think about how all parties involved will react. Sister Surrogate also reminds us that there is a fine line between wanting to play hero and coming off as selfish.

LaChelle Weaver has done an exemplary job of weaving a realistic tale of emotions and reactions surrounding one single decision. Sister Surrogate is a true page turner that makes the reader think about which family is more important: the one you're born into or the one you receive once you marry. Sister Surrogate proves that Weaver has a very bright future in the literary industry!

The bond between sisters is a strong one. No matter what Bridgette, Ivy and Savannah faced, they had each other. The question arises when reading Sister Surrogate is, should you put your sister above your immediate family? And, if you do, are you prepared to handle the consequences. But no matter what happens, the fact remains that the love between sisters is unshakeable. An intriguing read from this debut author.

I really did not like how much the book skipped, the time lapse was unnecessary. Also the middle sister's character and lifestyle could have been explored more especially her interaction with the men in her life. I hated the ending!

Sister Surrogate is a novel about sisterhood, family, and making tough decisions.

Bridgette, Ivy, and Savannah are three sisters from North Carolina. All very different from one another, all in different phases of their lives, all with different circumstances, but even still they know that family is of the utmost importance and they rely heavily on one another.

When the baby sister Savannah's fertility is compromised due to health issues, one sister offers to be a surrogate for Savannah and her husband Julius. This decision sets forth a series of events that are life-altering for all three families involved. Hurt, anger, pain, joy, and laughter all abound as this dramatic story unfolds.

Towards the end, it seemed like everything was wrapped in a neat little package, and I wish there would have a been a little more detail in how the characters got from where they were to where they needed to be, but that is probably because Ivy was my favorite character, and I'd love to read more about her and how things turned out with her (no spoilers!). But, at the very end came an unexpected twist that nearly broke my heart!!!

Overall, this was a wonderfully written debut novel by Ms. Weaver, and I fully expect to see many more great things to come from this talented author!

Just finished reading and I loved it! I've been waiting to read this book for months and I wasn't disappointed. I laughed and cried along as I could relate to Savannah, Ivy, and Bridgette during the different struggles that they faced. I was constantly held in suspense from beginning to end, which made it difficult for me to stop reading once I started. Not only did this book entertain me but it also brought awareness to the fact that we, as Black women, also pursue fertility treatments to obtain the dream of having a family. A fact that many in our community see as "ungodly" but even still, used more and more as another option to treat infertility. Overall, a very good read!

Great debut novel for this author. This story weaves the tale of three sisters who are living their lives, each doing their own thing. One sister is a newlywed and after being diagnosed with a possible devastating disease is unsure of the probability of having children. This sets the premise for the story. This is an awesome story about family, loyalties, forgiveness and love. I was so glad for the outcome of Ivy because that bothered me that Kean was back with his ex so quickly. This was a great story and looking forward to more by this author. Great job LaChelle

Loved It!

I truly enjoyed the roller coaster ride better known as Sister Surrogate. The relationship between the sisters was complicated yet loving which is how relationships between sisters typically are. I was happy for everyone at the end. I look forward to more from this author.

This was an excellent story about family bond. These sisters went through some things and supported each other through thick and thin. That's what family love is all about.

Lachelle Weaver did a great job with this story line. I love this page turner.

Sister Surrogate is about three sisters and their bond that holds them together through a life changing experience. This book had me on an emotional rollercoaster which I really enjoyed.
Savannah, a 29 year old newlywed, elementary school principal that is married to Julius, a wonderful and devoted husband. She has a diagnosed that will change everything in her life and family. Julius has unconditional love for his wife.
Ivy, the middle sister who lives in Atlanta, who only thinks about herself. She has a great career that doesn’t involve marriage or children. Ivy in the story steps up to the plate and helps her family out.
Bridgette, is the oldest of the Yancey clan. She is married to Nick and has twin boys, Dylan and Ryan. She is the “bossy one” on the clan and everything goes her way. She owns a bakery, Sugar Rush, that she loves. She lives in North Carolina along with Savannah.
I like how the sisters have a strong foundation and background to help them through this situation. Once you have a solid foundation you can’t be torn down! “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
The theme of the story is family, love, and being loyal. This is an ultimate sacrifice for a family. I could tell the author did her research for the topic of the story.
The characters were realistic. I could relate to all the characters. I cried with them I was happy with them. At one time I thought I was in the story. The characters were well developed.
The setting was realistic. Home is where the heart is. The family remembers that home was North Carolina. The plot had a lot of twists and turns that were unsexpected. Their Mother instilled a lot into the three sisters. Always remembering what mother said or did and they followed suit.
This story could easily become a Lifetime Movie and I would watch it. Thanks for making this a realistic story about a sisterly bond that their parents instilled great values and morals in.
I will be reading more by this author. I give this book 5 stars.

Surrogate Sister was a quick and easy read. The well-written story is about the sacrifice and emotions that often come along with real sisterhood. The author did a great job conveying the effects of this scenario from the viewpoint of each sister. This book is relatable, regardless of the readers’ background, because the emotions are real and raw. Some parts of the storyline were predictable, however, the ending surprised me. I give this book 4.5 stars based on The Regal Sisterhood Book Club Book Review Standards.

Overall Score – 4.5 Stars

Book Presentation Score- includes title, cover, and synopsis.
Score: 0.5
Comment: Based on the book presentation, I would possibly purchase the book. However, since I am past childbearing age, the cover of a pregnant woman didn’t particularly appeal to me. Therefore, the audience appeal may be narrowed.

Character Development
Score: 1
Comment: My favorite part of the book was how the author developed the characters, I enjoyed how they grew through the challenges they faced. A few days after I finished the book I can recall their names and their personalities vividly.

Storyline
Score: 1
Comment: The author provided just enough descriptions to help the reader “feel” the surroundings. The story had a clear beginning, middle, and ending and I would recommend it - it was a quick, engaging read

Setting
Score: 1
Comment: The author provided just enough descriptions to help the reader “feel” the surroundings. The author described the beach house in North Carolina and Bridgette’s house very well.

Book Editing
Score: 1
Comment: The book had none or very few noticeable errors. However, personally, I thought there were too many ill-placed commas and the chapters were too short which distracted from the flow of the story. Nevertheless, I didn’t catch any ‘true’ errors.

Bridgette, Ivy and Savannah are three sisters who have always been close, but especially now, since the death of their parents.

Savannah, the baby sister, who is also a newlywed, finds out that she has cervical cancer, which crushes her dreams of having a baby the conventional way. Her sisters try their best to step in and make her dreams come true.

Bridgette is a married entrepreneur with twin sons. She’s also the oldest of the three, and determined to take charge, but at what cost to her own family?

Ivy is a fashion stylist who stays on the road and could never imagine setting down long enough to marry and start a family. Will unconditional love change her mind?

I loved this 💎💎💎💎💎 read by @luv_words, and I highly recommend it.

Just when you think you have this story figured out, it spins around to show a different variation on a theme you thought couldn't get any better. When sisters Bridgette, Ivy, and Savannah are faced with adversity, they deal with it the only way they know how - together. It's no different, when Savannah thinks she has to abandon her hopes and dreams of motherhood. One of her sisters steps forward to offer herself as a surrogate. I assumed that much from the title but that's where all assumptions end. That's where the adversity is hitched up to another degree and the odds seem the most unfavorable. But with these sisters, it's also where the love increases to overcome any obstacle. This story will have your emotions all over the place - crying with sorrow one minute, overcome with joy the next and everything in-between. Just when you think this story will be one thing, LaChelle Weaver shows you how unpredictable love can be. Sister Surrogate delivers twists and turns that don't disappoint. Great job!

If you haven't read this one, you are missing out on a treat. I was definitely not expecting Ivy to come around and want more. I don't want to give out any spoilers but this tail about true sisterhood had me laughing, crying, and jumping for joy in certain parts. Sad ending for Bridgette but that was definitely a surprise too. Kudos to my sister scribe Lachelle. This is another good one from a local author and I'm proud to say I now know her. Awesome!!!

Surprise Ending...

I liked this book a lot but I came away wanting more.

Baby sister, Savannah sure was a spoiled brat.
She has some growing up to do.

The ending was a surprise, though.

Excellent book

This book was awesome. It brought back memories of my mother and the bond my sister and I have. The book shows how sisters have little spats but are there for each other. The story line was great, it shocked me with the death but it showed how they survived. I will be reading more books by this author. Loved the book.

I absolutely loved this book. The transitions were on point. I enjoyed the transparency of each situation and the overall storyline. My favorite character was Savannah, a "newlywed" to Julius Yancey. She was the youngest of the Sister Trio and soon to be celebrating her thirtieth birthday. (she reminds me of my sister)
Bridgette, married to her husband Nicholas Harper for ten years; blessed in their union with twin sons Dylan and Ryan...being the oldest sister; she makes sure the family is one accord whenever things fall out of place. Even though her transcending gestures come across "bossy" she's definitely the peacemaker. On the other hand Ivy Alston was surely the most vocal, unmarried with no children, and seemingly a bit "booshie". (I despised her ways at times) She doesn't bite her tongue to save her life but loves and supports her sisters literally from a distance. But no matter what situation immersed between these three sisters they were destined to abide by what their deceased parents instilled into them; morals, godly standards, and to always have each other to lean on...likely so when Savannah and Julius receives the worse news a married couple could ever endure. "Sister Surrogate" encounters the ultimate sacrifice. Will the family be able to handle this sudden dilemma? Purchase a copy, and find out...a satisfying read and I am looking forward to reading more novels written by the Author LaChelle Weaver.

Sister Surrogate is a great book...one definitely worth rereading. Five stars all the way! Three sisters and a baby absolutely equals family drama. LaChelle had me talking and giving the characters a piece of my mind (as if they could hear me)! Sister Surrogate captured my attention from the very beginning. That desire to turn the page and keep reading was maintained throughout the book.

She brought the characters to life to include characters you love and those you love to hate. This is a story of love, sisterhood and family. I was on an emotional roller coaster...I laughed, wanted to cry and be angry all in the same chapter. This book is good from the beginning to the end...and just when you think you know what the next event will be you will find twist and turns that are not expected.

When I picked up the book I had an idea of what it was about. I had it all figured out in my head. The story did not go exactly as I had envisioned. There were some twists that surprised me.
What would you do to help your sister? Would you risk putting a strain on your health, family or relationship ? This book made you think about what you would do in the situation.
I must say that this book was emotional for me. I laughed, I shed tears and cursed at a few people. The story was well written and I really enjoyed it. The only criticism I have is, when the novel jumps forward in time, I would have liked some of the gaps to be filled in.

Great Read

As long as you have a sister, you'll always have a friend!
Sister Surrogate is a page turning read about a family bond. Bridgette, Ivy & Savannah are sisters that are gone stick together and ride for one another through thick and thin. When one sister is faced with opposition, the other sisters come to her rescue, regardless of doesn't support their decision. Being married women, is that the right choice. LaChelle Weaver takes the reader on an entertaining, yet emotional rollercoaster ride in this novel. Five stars!!

I love books that make me think and debate. This is that book. If you sister needed you to carry a child for her, can you, would you? What would be the pros and cons. Get a group together and debate your stance.

This book was written with the right flow it did not drag on and there was no dull moment. This book is of true sisterly bonding. Like my sisters and I, what needs to be done will get done. I am my sister's keeper.
