The adventures with these characters just never get old! The author always has something incredibly whimsical up his sleeve making every book unique in its own way. This story packed a ton of action and suspense! I mean it had to right? They were visiting an invisible city in the clouds!!
Important note: when reviewing kids books, I grade on weather or not the book is written for the implied audience not on the comparison of a young adult book to a great novel, Secrets of Droon in no way is as good or better than Harry potter, but it is aimed at younger readers and I give it credit for that. This has been a good series with easy to follow stories and characters. it was a series that my son started reading in elementary school about the fourth grade, and he is still an avid reader and a great adult, if I do say so myself. This series makes up for the limited storylines by having so many books in the series with the same characters it's like checking up on your friends to see what is up. This was a good read.
I loved this series as a kid, but while reading it again with my daughter I remembered this was my least favorite book in the series. My daughter loved the fantasy and was drawn by the concept of a city in the sky, but her interest came and left in waves. While I probably won't hang onto this book for my other kids, I'm looking forward to reading the first book with my toddler
While the writing style of this book is great, the story lacked depth and finality. The story had no real meaning and explained nothing. There were so many sub plots going on and not a single one was wrapped up on the ending.
The name symbols are ICONIC are you kidding me?? I had dolls of Bodo and Vasa when I was little, an artistic adult in my life sculpted them out of clay. She even sewed little cloaks for them. So wonderful.
I've been reading this series to my daughter who is in first grade, and she loves them. They are extremely fast paced, full of adventure, and not too scary for young children. Great plot and characters!
Kids are still enjoying this series. They can't wait for the next. Its simple and fast paced enough for them to stay focused. And the characters are fun.
This one has a lot more twists and surprises than i thought it would. I liked the tower and the invisible floating city!
- Neal turn into a bug while on the school bus - Ro is a city that floats in the clouds and flies over droon. Usually Invisible except for one day per year - Sparr is after diamonds that have the invisibility power - Khan is a groggle whisperer - Guardians role over Ro. And they’re dinosaurs!? - Symbols for everyone’s names in the ancient language that Quill writes in - Eric and his friends turned into ninns! - Need to go to the tower to find out what happened when Neal turned into a bug in order to fix it - How does Eric and keeah know they are copying down the right moment that they need? - Sparr was reading the tower and crying - Sparr sees eric but didn’t do anything to harm him - When sparr confronted the queen, he almost killed hey but demither turned her into a falcon - Guardians turned Neal back but now he has a temporary twin - Keeah’s dad! - The friend had to jump onto sparr’s ship to avoid becoming invisible. Find mountains of diamonds - Sparr blasted the two neals. They became 1 - Sparr is keeping Eric alive because he will eventually help him - Sparr read something about ice and the last line mentions it. Ice will be important in an upcoming book

I've decided to read The Secrets of Droon series entirely for Christmas since i've been feeling a bit nostalgic. I want to be able to live a bit of the magic of being a kid and what beeter to help than this incredible series. I know that this series is for young kids but i feel it will still be great after all these years. The fourth book introduces us to new characters as well as new places. As in the last book the action starts really fast and it continues that way. Something that I like about this series is how hints and gives the reader clues of things that will happen in the future and in later books. It gives the reader a chance to try to guess and wonder about what is coming. The plot again centers on the kids trying to stop Sparr from fulfilling his plans. But this time his plan is to steal diamonds instead of obtaining the Red Eye of Dawn. The author continues to give us variety and changes through every book.
In this book the 3 friends and along with their Droon counterpart head to the flying city of Ro. Neal starts turning into a bug and is later cured by the guardians at Ro (Vasa and Bodo). Keeyah finally learns about the fate of her mother. Lord Sparr learns something about the future based on the writings by Quill.
He does not kill Eric when he sees him in the tower of memory since he believes that Eric will help him in the future. Lord Sparr and his Ninns manage to load up a lot of diamonds in their ship hoping to apply the invisibility properties but the children defeat them and save the diamonds which are meant to be used by Ro to remain invisible for the next whole year.
Keeyah has a lot of hurdles ahead of her if she has to save her mother. Also they are curious to know what the word Ice means and how it will impact their future. More action to follow.

Once again we're back in Droon, this time in a city that just won't stay put - it drifts along in the sky.
Of course the bad guys want to steal what the good guys have, so it's up to our adventurers to save the day.
Again, this is a fun adventure series witha fascinating world that the author has worked hard to construct. At the same time, I'm frustrated by the lack of detail and really wish we could spend more time exploring, and getting a bit deeper into the characterization. Every story feels like it should have been told with a lot more words, probably at a higher grade level.
Still it's fun to read, and if you have have younger readers who love magical stories, this is a great series to start them on.
Fantasy for the younger generation! My two older kids started reading this in 1st grade and both have loved the series. I began reading it so that I had better perspective on the series. The first 3 books I didn't find very interesting, the books were too fast paced for me with too little detail (but probably perfect for younger kids), however this book finally seems to introduce a little more depth, and leaves a thread with which to weave the overarching story of the series. This is the firt book in the series that I really felt compelled to finish.
Neal gets turned into a bug again! Awesome. There’s something more interesting about Lord Sparr in this book, it's like he’s got a deeper hidden secret that's not being revealed to us yet. (At least, that’s what I thought.) I think book 5 will be worth looking at, as I’m curious to see where the plot will go next. That book will probably be my last look at this series though, as these stories tend to be the same thing over again. :)
This is one of the my favorites that I've read about. It takes place in the future because every year the cloud disappears and reappears in a new world or time. They went through a tower that had a magic pen that wrote everything on a brick about what's happening in each person's life, and it gets taller and taller as more lives appear and he accidentally reaches the future.
Droon is a wonderfully inventive world. This time round our heroes visit the flying city of Ro which is only visible for one day per year and the Tower of Memory in which a magic Quill writes everything that's ever happened and sometimes the future. Quibble: I wish more had been done with Neal One & Two
This story really drew in my new reader. We alternated paragraphs and he was able to read most of the words, but it was no an overly simple story so it kept his interest. He's looking for the rest of the series at the library this week.
Didn't care for this one at all. Pure fluff. A good mixture of saturday morning cartoons and all of the "most used lines" from any science fiction book.
"Prepare to meet your doom!"
"Did he say doom?" "I'm afraid so." "That doesn't sound good." "No it sure doesn't."
Drune is a majical place and it has lots of adventures where you can emajin your self in. I love the 4th book and I hope other people read it too! I only have the fourth book and I bet the other books are fun too! I read this book about 5 times so I guess thats why I love it so much!
This was quite possibly the best story in the series thus far. It managed to give a little back story and depth to the characters, something the series desperately needed. I can't help but suspect that there's more to Lord Sparr than bottomless evil.
