A crown. A church. A ship buried underwater for centuries. And the power that awaits… England in 1940 is marked by blackouts, air raids and the threat of enemy bombs. Yet, in pastoral Duncaster, against the backdrop of awe-inspiring cliffs and a roiling sea, reporter Rachel Rubin fights an adversary more deadly than the a foe that only she can see, it seems. According to legend, King Redwald’s treasure is in Duncaster and is protected by a foul curse. Believing in old folk tales is utter nonsense to the true blue American Rachel … until she starts having disturbing dreams and seeing ghosts! As the danger escalates, more chilling events occur. Rachel races against time to discover the truth. She doesn’t know who to trust, but one thing is certain-- the bodies are piling up and Doomsday looms on Duncaster’s watery horizon!

Entertaining paranormal listening 🎶🔰

Another will written paranormal fantasy world 🌎 haunting horror ghost 👻adventure thriller novel by David Longhorn and Scare Street (The Sentinels Series book 1). Rachel is on her way to Duncaster on the English coast when she comes across an army truck 🚚 in the ditch. She assist their getting out of the ditch as they are going to Duncaster she follows. The year is 1940 beginning of WWII. Everyone is looking for the last off three crowns 👑 off three kings almost a thousand years ago. The sentinels guard the crown. They are ghost 👻. Horror and friendship with romance and death follow as the British and Germans search for the crown. This book was free and a very good read or listen 🎶 in a three book series. I would highly recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of paranormal fantasy mystery novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa read books 📚. 2023 👒😉😉

David Longhorn's author bio reveals him to be a lifetime fan of classic horror (which I also love) so I was very intrigued to see how his interest in the genre would express itself. Sentinels did not disappoint - it would be an absorbing and pleasurably creepy tale for anyone, but it is great fun to read if (like me) you are a big fan of M.R.James' ghost stories, as there are many sly references to a particular one of those in it! In some ways Sentinels takes up where M.R.James' story leaves off - James died before the outbreak of WW2, and Sentinels is set during the War. However, the book has a strong, likeable and very un-Jamesian protagonist in Rachel Rubin, an American reporter. There were some beautifully done dramatic moments - my favourite being the ringing of bells in a drowned church steeple under the sea. I cannot say more for fear of spoilers, but I thought that was an excellent touch. I will definitely be reading the following books in the series.

Great storyteller

Not too scary except for the dead guys. But I am officially crazy about the character Rachel. I enjoyed the WWII Nazi involvement in the story and I had a feeling about the traitor. This was just an overall great thriller with good story and character interactions. I also loved the prologue setting the scene. All in all it is a really great mystery, thriller, horror read!

This book was interesting, but I found it difficult to focus on parts of the story. It jumped around quite a bit and some of the in-depth history took away from the intrigue of the story.

Great story

Gives you ghost and a history lesson at the same time. Not really scary to read, but if you were living it, I believe it would be terrifying.

I did like the story enough to read to the end, but it wasn't a gripping story and it's not a series I would be interested in pursuing further.

This series is not as gut-wrenchingly gory as some of Scare Street's offerings but with ancient Saxon legends, WWII era intrigue and Nazis, what's not to like? A medieval British town was lost to the encroaching tide centuries earlier and only by keeping an ancient Saxon crown in its place beneath the waves can the world be saved from Armageddon. Of course, with Nazis in the picture, it is important to them to find this lost crown as a key to developing a super weapon. There are ghosts, to be sure, and it is their mission to prevent the crown from being stolen, at any cost.
This first book basically set the story up. If past history is any indication, the rest of this series will be well worth the wait.

Sentinels ( The Sentinels Series Book 1)

I loved your book the Sentinels. This is not the evil haunting I was expecting but not disappointed. The Sentinels tells of 3 men who gave their lives to care for the spirit and body of their king. Their stories have been passed down for a thousand years in their small village in England. England today is at war with a Germany that is being led by an evil Adolph Hitler who happens to believe in SUPERNATURAL POWERS. Hitler is going after the kings crown but will have to confront the Sentinal ghosts who are aided by an AMERICAN reporter who has just discovered her supernatural powers. An engrossing story of war, battles with ghosts, history and romance. This would make a GREAT movie. I RECOMMEND..Enjoy !
