A collection of the first three books in the high-action JO MODEEN thriller series by Frank H Jordan.
With a salute to characters like Russell Blake’s thrilling Jet and Lee Child's tough-as-nails Jack Reacher, THE MODEEN FACTOR, book one in the series, introduces Josephine Dakota Modeen MG, the kick-ass heroine we’d all like to have on our side. Following a distinguished military career - having successfully passed the gruelling entry programme to be the first woman accepted into Australia’s elite SASR and earning the Medal for Gallantry in action - Modeen is left wondering what’s next. And for someone with her unique skills, the options are limited. When unexpectedly contacted by her old CO Ben Logan VC MG, now a team leader with Australia’s national security agency, she knows it's not a social call. What she doesn’t know is how it will change her life….
In book two, THE MODEEN TRANSFORMATION, Modeen’s team is in pursuit of ruthless kidnappers and their high-profile hostages, abducted during the 2014 international G20 Summit in Brisbane, Queensland. Always a step behind but remaining hopeful of finding the captives alive, the team tracks the wily kidnappers from the state’s south to its far north. And along the way they make a shocking discovery … of how close to home the threat lies.
In book three, MODEEN: BLACK OPS, Modeen is faced with a dilemma – should she follow her orders or her instincts? Her team disperses under deep cover to unravel the web of secrets surrounding their latest mission, which takes them from country Victoria to Australia’s national capital, and across the ocean to Kabul in Afghanistan. And the stakes couldn’t be higher....
#1: The Modeen Factor 4* 5/27-28/22 (229) several locations around Australia; minor locations: Middle East (no further details - one of them is Afghanistan according to next in series), Malaysia
#2: The Modeen Transformation 4.5* 8/17/22 (175) several locations around Australia; Timor (minor location)
#3: Modeen: Black Ops 4.5* 8/17-18/22 (199) several locations around Australia, mostly in Victoria; Kabul, a mountain range & army bases in Afghanistan *
The main issue is that, in volumes two and three especially, this becomes much more of a team effort, rather than concentrating on Jo. The NatSec team typically ends up getting split-up, with smaller groups performing various tasks, whether it’s surveillance, hostage rescue or whatever. This significantly dilutes the book’s focus, with Jo feeling like she has been forgotten about for multiple chapters in a row. I mean, as generic action, kick the butts of the terrorist stuff, it’s marginally okay. But I definitely expected much more focus on Jo, to the point I wavered over whether or not it even qualified for this site.
I give 15 stars, five for each book! The main characters are well developed although I would like to have seen the villains more developed so that I could dislike them more. I enjoy books like these where romance is included but lightly touched upon as the story is about special forces and clandestine operations. I received this set of books for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honesty review.
Sweet Modean, every red blooded man's idea of the perfect woman. Tough, pretty, sexy as hell, and well able to take care of her self. I think I'm in love. Great story's well written just the right amount of disruption and information, with out going over the top.
The first three Jo Modeen novels bundled into a single box set makes for a neat package. The three novels cover a single main story arc, which will save the reader a lot of frustration when finishing one novel requires the following one to settle a critical issue. It is rare for me to start and finish a box set. Too many consist of inferior storytelling where an author is hoping to salvage some kind of sales with material that is not selling well as single novels. This was a pleasant surprise. Nice to meet some (fictional) Australian special forces operatives. Not a whole lot of character building. Lots of action and maybe a bit too much emphasis on the multitude of weapons. Jo and her fellow warriors are provided with all of the weapons and support services they could want, to the extent that would make James Bond jealous. But the stories move forward smoothly and with clarity. Blessings upon Mr. Jordan for sparing this Canadian reader the potential tsunami of “strine” he could have used, but he salts enough Aussie slang and terminology to make things both colourful and interesting. As for the four star rating, this is a rounded-up 3.5, but I only post reviews for books that make me want to read more by that author, and I have every intention of picking up the second trilogy of Jo Modeen adventures. So this is my shout-out to Frank H. Jordan, and my hope that he builds bigger and better on what is a strong start and apparently now numbers a total of 10 published novels in this series.
All 3 books in this box set!! Need 5 star's each! What amazing read ever! Each book flow was great not to fast or slow just perfect! Lol Even with books being about jo. We also get to see all the other characters point of view during the story and as well the bad guys in put also. Book 2 and 3 each started where book stopped. Also at the end if something happens to different characters. Next book leads of with them. Like before a TV show starts they show last episode what happens before new episode. Love it!! Author did great job with his research! That's very important when writing book with weapons and military, everything in between! And thank you for being solely focus on the storyline and making more action then another romance military book!!!
I received copy from RR books free books list for an honest opinion!
I was uncertain what to expect from this set and was pleasantly suprised by the books.........nothing was too far fetched as to stretch the imagination and I loved the concept of a highly trained woman being welcomed into these normally male dominated special forces and accepted as much for her fighting skills and prowess as her femine wiles! The strories were well paced and the characters were built up nicely with some depth and there was good linkage between each book....certainly something to be read in order and not randomly! A most excellent read!
What a great series box set! I thoroughly enjoyed Jo Modeen’s toughness and general badassery! No wilting flower with her, girl power all the way. Equally as enjoyable were the other team members with her, all giving a lot of action and thrills to the story. I look forward to reading more Jo Modeen stories!
Being a Queenslander born and bred, I relished the story line. Though I thought the first book started off a bit slow the rest of it and the ensuing books were a real treat. Great going Frank. Looking at the others in the series. Keep up the great writing.
The Jo Modeen 1 - 3: Has a preview of the books, which I appreciate knowing what they're about before I read them. Well written, fast paced and action packed storylines with intelligent, realistic characters and events. I actually believe the author knew what he was writing about unlike some "writers" today who are clueless about weapons, training and combat fighting and action, but are liked by readers who know even less. It's easy to chain read the Modeen series without becoming bored or tired. Job well done, Jordan. I found this author through AXP and contacted him. 5*
The Modeen Factor #1 - Ends in a cliffhanger! My only complaint about this book is the cliffhanger ending. Well written, interesting, intriguing storyline with intelligent, realistic characters, along with realistic dialog. Vivid descriptions and realistic actions and events. The story is hard to put down and is fast paced. Enjoyed the Aussie dialect and colloquialisms. 5*
The Modeen Transformation #2 - Starts where the first book ended. Well written, interesting, intriguing storyline with intelligent, realistic characters, along with realistic dialog. Vivid descriptions and realistic actions and events. The story is hard to put down and is fast paced. Enjoyed the Aussie dialect and colloquialisms. 5*
Modeen Black Ops #3 - Picks up during the party from Ben's side of the involvement. Well written, interesting, intriguing storyline with intelligent, realistic characters, along with realistic dialog. Vivid descriptions and realistic actions and events. The story is hard to put down and is fast paced. Enjoyed the Aussie dialect and colloquialisms. 5*
Definitely five stars for all three books. Great action adventure stories which I found at a constant pace throughout all books. It was very hard to put each book down which I found very exciting with a continuous flow from one book to the other. The great description of the characters made them easy to imagine and relate too. Being mainly set in Australia made the story more reel and enjoyable for me as I know many of the places and can picture them whilst I am reading. I would definitely recommend Jo Modeen books and look forward to the next box set.
Really enjoyable set of novels. I might well buy the next sent in the series.
Tons of action, and likable protagonists.
Several quibbles: 1) The villains could have been better drawn to make them more despicable. 2) The first two novels ended in a cliffhanger. But since I had the box set and everything was resolved in the third novel it was no big deal. 3) There were a ton of references to "Aurions". It was a car that I hadn't heard of, so I looked it up -- expecting some kind of James Bond supercar. It turns out it is a . . . Australian Toyota.
Thank you, Frank...Frank H. Jordan for the Jo Modeen series.
Since the series SEALS has moved on Frank's Modeen series picks up Special Forces activity in ...AUSTRALIA w/ a competent female along w/ some top notch blokes. I enjoyed reading one, two, and three rather then having to wait on a next book to be released. Didn't think I'd like a box set, but found I did especially when they were all good, no nonsense fast reads.
Well, after you muddled thru detailed descriptions of each type of vehicle drjven, each type of gun used and each type of aircraft there finally was some action. And a hint of romance. I was going to quit half way thru the first book but stuck it out. The next two were more interesting. I do have to identify myself as an American grandma so if you're a hot blooded Aussie or American you may enjoy those detailed descriptions more than me.
This is an exciting and quick paced set of novels. What I enjoyed is that the story line is pretty easy to follow. It does not have a lot of subplots that eventually come together. If you like military thriller this is a series to read. I plan to read the rest in the series
I've written separate reviews on each book but wanted to say I was really impressed by these first three books. I especially liked the Australian flavor of these books compared to many other similar books of the genre. It is genuinely nice to read about places that I'm at least a little familiar with. Well worth the time to read.
Superwoman can do anything, does nothing wrong and has some cool toys. Her only friends are from the same superhuman clan and are equally infallible. Boring! I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
I rarely read a series of books, however, I am happy I made an exception with the first three books in this series. The “ Kick butt” heroine is believable and lays a good foundation for the future books.
Can't say enough about how well this series of stories developed. From beginning to end of 3rd, it was one exciting event after another. Jo was by every standard the heroine and fill the shoes totally. Look forward to 4 thru 6 reads.
I enjoyed books 1 to 3 in the Jo Modeen Box Set. Terrific action and characters who get under your skin and into your heart. Purchasing the next set right after this.
Really enjoyed this box set. Jo Modeen is one tough, savvy lady. She knows what to do in tense situations and does it to completion. Many is the young hot shot eager to show her up but they end up eating crow every time. She’s not showy, she just gets the job done, with a lot of respect.
Really enjoyed the characters and the action. Could have been consistent with the time announcements "hours" does not follow the time except in certain military branches. Petty I know, yet a reality. Looking forward to more. Thanks!
Thank goodness for the boxed set. I would have hated to wait for the next and the next book. Love all the characters and the writing. Going for more of Frank Jordan's books esp Jordan's Modean series.
