I wanted to start by thanking Liz for the wonderful opportunity to read and review Fortune's Favor. Not too long ago ago, I did the review for Book 1 SuperNova and I totally fell in love with it. If you are one of my regular readers (blog) then you know that I love my action packed superhero movies and books!

So it should come as no surprise when I tell you that this baby here is awesome!! We take off directly a few moments after the ending of SuperNova where Henry was taken by Fortune and well... Pen joined him too!

I know!!!

All the twists....

Bearing in mind that this is the transition middle book of the trilogy, we have a lot more insight into who Fortune is and Henry makes a discovery. So I am going to make this as much spoiler free as possible... but I am warning you all that things may come out and it is beyond my control!

Nova and Cole are still going strong as a couple so YAY for that and are facing new challenges in terms of the public opinion's on them as vigilantes. I love the way these feelings were handled in the book as it cannot be easy to be openly discussed in front of one's face when no one knows it is you they are talking about.

Of course there is also Henry dealing with a lot of things and the general ambiance of the book is still similar to the first but then I got that feeling of urgency as the book progressed.

Fortune is as evil as usual or even actually more so.... and things are going from bad to worse, I will spare you details but I can tell you that at the end it is bad bad bad!! I will be nice and tell you that we finish off on a huge cliffhanger!

Why?

Why?....

Am I really expected to bear the wait till book 3? Can I say that this is cruel and unusual punishment... ( I know I am being overly dramatic!.. still, I am allowed!!)

Back to the book... It is still wonderfully written, with a good fast pace and non stop action! It is really an easy read and frankly I could not put it down (I had to for work) and I loved how smooth the transition is between SuperNova and Fortune's Favor.

I really appreciated that there was no time wastage in recapping some previous points from SuperNova and that we dove in directly. For that .... Liz I thank you!

The characters are growing really nicely into their own, though can I say that I am getting worried about Pen a little... Even both sets of parents are changing too and I gotta say, that I have a special fondness for Nova's dad.

I would like to mention a really touching moment as a flashback scene between Nova and Star that maybe tear up a little. It was really beautifully written!

Not wanting to keep you any longer after all you have the book to read, but I wanted to let you know that is going into the Super Highly Recommended Section of my reads and if you have not checked out this series yet, you are really missing out!

Enjoy Fortune's Favor and I really hope you love it as much as I did!

Fortune's Favor, begins where the first left in the series, left off. How will Nova and Cole save the city? Fortune is ruthless and doesn’t care about anyone. Obviously, only himself.

There is a lot of Action and fighting throughout this book. They were seriously great. Long has a way of writing that really helps visualize every scene. At first, I thought I wasn’t going to love it. I know, I know it’s silly. Cause how could I not?  I thought it was a bit slow. But think after reading, that it’s the anticipation of where Fortune is, what is he planning? and can Nova and Cole really take on this seriously evil villain.

“This was our fight now and we wouldn’t let anyone else do it for us.”

I saw the growth with the characters. The love they both have for each other is important. But that can be the one thing that costs them everything. Their gifts continue to grow, but what is their limit. Can they really do what they need to do? There are seriously so many questions. That obviously or maybe hopefully will be revealed in the next one.. Unbreakable.

Hang on to your seats readers. I’m sure this will be an insane ride!

Overall, I give this book Five Boundless Stars. The writing is amazing and who doesn’t love an amazingly written superhero themed story....Lissa

*My Thoughts*

Fortune's Favor is the second installment in author Liz Long's Heroes of Arcania trilogy. The story picks up exactly where Supernova left off. For would-be heroes Nova Benson and Cole Warner, things haven't gone exactly as they hoped for or planned and things will definitely get bad, before they get any better. After Fortune's attack on their high school, Cole's sister Penelope walked off with the villain, while Nova's best friend Henry Wheeler was being taken because he got too close to the situation.

The first book was awesome and this second one sure didn't disappoint!! Although it was a tiny bit slow at times, it was never boring and I loved the character development. I loved the cliffhanger ending and I know that will be a tough decision. I can't wait to see what happens next!!!

My Thoughts:

In a world full of turmoil, escaping away into the pages of a good series is an amazing way to escape reality, if even for a moment. While many books will whisk you away to a land of make-believe, many cannot depict our own world in positive light these days. Many cannot see that light. Few authors can deliver the emotional uplifting required to lift the spirits of readers today. Liz Long, however, is one of those authors. The world needs heroes. And Long delivers.

Last month, Long rocked the bookish community with the release of Heroes of Arcania: SuperNova, the first in a YA Superhero trilogy that is set to take Summer 2016 by storm. I, along with many other readers, absolutely devoured book one and couldn't wait to get my hands on the second installment of the series. Book could book two live up to the hype?

Yes. So. Much. Yes.

I'm one of those weird readers who actually finds second novels in a series (particularly a trilogy) to be the best. The second installment is always one full of emotional storybuilding and character development before the big showdowns in the finale. While some readers aren't always impressed by that, I know I sure am. On top of those points, Long goes even further and delivers some huge action-packed scenes in Fortune's Favor. If you were expecting a slow-paced feels-fest, you're looking in the wrong place.

From the very first page (which picks up immediately after book one), we're drawn back into the world of Nova Benson, Fortune, and the Heroes of Arcania. The stakes are higher than ever when not only are our hero's lives, but their identities, are at stake. Can Nova and the gang stop Fortune from his biggest heist yet? Will Nova avenge her sister's death and finally bring an end to Fortune's reign of terror?

Fans of Long and HoA will love what Long has done with this second installment in the series. I can't say much else for fear of spoilers, but trust me: you won't be able to set down this high-octane adventure full of thrills and suspense. Fortune's Favor may be Long's best work to-date! Expect the unexpected in this one folks, Long is here to surprise!

As you can see, I was clearly a huge fan of Heroes of Arcania: Fortune's Favor and I am so glad I have had the opportunity to share these thoughts with you all. I am so excited to be granting HoA: Fortune's Factor a well-deserved, near-perfect 5-star review. I highly recommend this series to all fans of sci-fi, paranormal, or superheros. Add this series to your TBR today!

Well, I'm just a little bit behind, but since I'm posting this the week after the last book in Liz Long's Heroes of Arcania series, I'll just pretend it was planned that way. :D

Fortune's Favor picked up exactly where Super Nova left off. After Penelope's seemingly betrayal and Henry's kidnapping, Nova and Cole are both left devastated. Now they each have even more reasons to want to end Fortune's reign of terror on Arcania.

Needless to say, a lot happens in Fortune's Favor. More secrets are revealed. Crazy alliances are made and the danger never slows. Henry finds himself caught in the middle in more ways than one, but that doesn't stop him from taking more crazy chances. Both Nova and Cole are suffering from guilt as well as an urgency to find a way to stop Fortune.

From the beginning I've loved the connection between Nova and Cole. Nova started her fight against Fortune because of Star, but as the story's processed, it's turned into much more than that. Cole's goal has always been to do the right thing, regardless of the danger to himself, but the strength in those convictions and his alliances are put to the ultimate test by the end of Fortune's Favor. The jury's still out on exactly how far Penelope will go to prove her point... Things should be extremely interesting in Unbreakable, the final book in the Heroes of Arcania series.

On a side note, I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I didn't even consider a connection between Liz Long's Donovan Circus series and Heroes of Arcania until this book. It's sad to say that I'm afraid I may have never really 'gotten it' but the author made it blatantly obvious in Fortune's Favor. *face palm* That's okay, oblivious or not, I love the connection and hope I notice even more. ;) As I mentioned, Unbreakable was released last week, so if you're one of those people who doesn't like to start a series until it's complete, you're in luck.

I received Fortune's Favor in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book

*Warning: This review will contain slight spoilers*

I really love the fact that the author starts this off right where the first book ended. I’m used to the second books being farther along, starting at weeks or months after the first ended.

In some series, the second book is mostly filler, setting up for the third book but I don’t think this is what happened here. I did think it was just a tad bit repetitive though and it was a little anti-climatic when Fortune revealed himself. I feel like there would have been more of a reaction if it had been someone that Nova knows. I didn’t have the reaction I wanted because I don’t know who he is while he knows everything about Nova.

A little more romance since Cole and Nova got together but nothing that’s overly in your face.

The reaction that Henry ha when he found out that Nova was the superhero was a bit of an over reaction in my mind. Maybe I’m just thinking that he’s a journalist instead of her best friend but still, even thinking of him as a best friend, she wants to protect him.

And that twist at the end, I know it says in the blurb that Cole has to make a choice but the way the choice comes about is surprising. The way the choice is brought up and what he has to do is such a twist, I couldn’t believe it ended like that! I had to stop myself from going to the sneak peak at the third book. I don’t like looking at those sneak peaks because then I feel like I’m starting a book but I’m unable to finish it.

Anyways, a good continuation of the HOA series and I can’t wait until the next book!

Thank you for reading my review.

Fortune's Favor by Liz Long is the second book in the Heroes of Arcania trilogy and it's another amazing read!

This book started off straight from the end of the first book SuperNova, where Henry was taken by Fortune and it was also revealed that Cole's sister Penelope has joined Fortune too.

Nova and Cole are more determined than ever to beat Fortune, now that they have both been personally affected by Fortune. Nova doesn't understand why Fortune keeps going after her, first her sister Starling, and now her best friend Henry. Cole couldn't figure out why his sister Penelope would willingly follow Fortune.

As they battled to save their loved ones, Fortune continues to play his little games, exposing their world of "gifted" to the regular humans. Fortune set about more destruction in the city of Arcania and we're left with a massive cliffhanger at the end of this book.

Straight onto the 3rd and final installment of Heroes of Arcania, Unbreakable for me as it is officially released today!

One of the best!

This is a fantastic series for any reader of any age and you don't want to miss this book! I loved every word and can't wait for the finale. Nova is something else and Cole is sweet as ever. Their love is real and there are no games or dishonesty between them. The trials they face are tremendous but I love their spirit.
