Aww :(, the pink hair girl finds out she dies in 4 years of leukemia, mackenzie her name? U don't know why i am finding it hard to memorize the names of these girls, i am always doubting my memory. It feels like the two Erin's might have run into a monster. Also the future erin Might not be a killer her device killed the man wrong before she could adjust it. But it seems the god lookalike asshole was right if they don't return to their own time, there will be nothing to return to, their presence in the future is messing everything up.
So good! Vaughn and Chiang's lighthearted homage to the eighties (and maybe especially eighties films), complete with Matt Wilson's splendid neon color! It's Stand by Me (only with strong girl characters, that true, we are only just getting to know a little, really), meets ET (with space creatures, yup) meets Back to the Future (uh-huh, time travel), but a female version, a kind of inverse Peggy Sue Got Married (a986, in case you were wondering). So one girl meets her older self. Another, just in the last page, finds something out in the cliffhanger ending about her future self that is vintage Vaughn, something none of the above-mentioned movies might have anticipated. Getting better and better! Read it! One of the best!
This is honestly one of the weirdest comics I've ever read. I have no idea what's happening, but it's so addictive. The art is absolutely stunning. So much happened in this issue too. Damn.
For some reason, I really like reading about people who visit the present day from the past. I just like seeing today through the vision of people who haven't seen today, you know? It's pretty wicked if you ask me. The multiple Erin's isn't getting any less confusing, and scientifically I don't even understand how this is all working and I would at some point like some answers. I'm still pretty confused with what is going on, but I'm really enjoying the story (and the art style a little more, but I'm still not a huge fan) so I guess it can be forgiven.
Oh snap! It is super interesting to see the world of 2016 through the eyes of 1988. Super well done. This issue is really amping up the stakes both in action and emotion!
So the story keeps getting weirder. Now we've got creatures. I don't understand and I expect I never will and it's delightful.
There's a lot of amazing young women and that is like really a good selling point for me. The fact that my roommate dropped a pile of single issues in my lap - that I have now run out of - was also a good selling point.
I've not always loved Brian K. Vaughn and thought his characterization of women in Y:The Last Man was frequently disappointing... so, these are great. Maybe I'll retry. I should finish Saga. There are some really lovely feminist arguments in the back features.
This issue didn't give me the answers I wanted yet but I'm sure they're working up to it so hopefully, we're not waiting too long! I did love that past and present-day Erin are now starting to work together and the craziest thing happened to MacKenzie at the end of this issue! I'm wondering if they have not just gone into the future but also into maybe a different universe/timeline because of some of things that have happened it just seems like the character's lives aren't matching up with the present day and it may explain the apple product in the past if someone went into another timeline and created that software or something, I have no clue but you get the idea!
Did I tell you, guys, that I love this comic? Well, I do. And I'll never get tired of telling that. This issue is all about the future and it's still perfectly written. Brian K. Vaughan did a perfect job with showing us girls' reactions without going too deep into the small details that can ruin the mood. It's just so... perfect that I want to hug this issue. Also, a lot of very touching scenes here. Talking about hugs, that certain scene (no spoilers, no spoilers...) was fantastic and I totally loved Mac's reaction on the final page. Love the girls. Love this comic. Love Brian K. Vaughan. Please, somebody, pass me the next issue and more coffee. Thank you.
