On the way to investigate a fugitive sighting, 21-year-old news intern Aubrey Kent is injured when an unexpected storm destroys the newscopter—along with the rest of the crew.

Now, stranded in the Canadian wilderness and on the brink of death, Aubrey is rescued by a handsome stranger whose cold disposition is as frightening as the remote cabin in which he lives. With no way to reach civilization before spring, Aubrey becomes Jack Gordon’s unwanted roommate. Her hope for rescue is much more desperate when she sees his hostile attitude and violent behavior.

Aubrey and Jack wait out the winter, they grow closer—their delicate friendship blooming into feelings neither of them could have anticipated. But the weather and the wolves aren’t the only dangers in the mountains. As Aubrey uncovers the reason for Jack’s self-imposed isolation, she realizes she’s closer to the story than she imagined—a story that might cost her life.

This is my first time reading this author's work and I enjoyed it! The storyline is a great departure from my usual round of erotica, but it's written well: some suspense, action, mystery, and intrigue are involved. There were some noticeable editing issues, but they weren't great enough to prevent me from finishing the story.

The POV is singular, steamy times start at around 80%, and I can see how the ending could cause some readers to hate this book. For me, it worked! Enjoyed!

Huh. Who would've thought that a book almost exclusively set in a remote cabin in the Canadian woods, starring basically no more than two characters could be so riveting? Certainly not me.
Sure, I'm a total sucker for the trapped trope - whether it be snowed in, stranded, or a broken down car - but mostly, these situations only serve as a catalyst for the ensuing romance. It's rather uncommen for them to serve as the entire plot.

Though there was an interesting little mystery side-plot going on, this story's main focus lies on the relationship between Aubrey and Jack.
Jack is an enigma from start to end. He's one of those protective, brooding, silent heroes with a big, bad secret but his heart in the right place. He's moody and incredibly reluctant to let anyone get close to him, and I loved how he gradually opened up to Aubrey.
As for Aubrey, while she was an all right heroine, I found her rather unspectacular and generic. Still, I liked her well enough.

Unlike many other readers, I also didn't mind the ending.

What did not work for me at all was the timespan in which all of this was supposed to have taken place. It was like one week, give or take a few days. One week to overcome trauma of a helicopter crash and witnessing your work colleagues die. One week to heal from severe injuries. One week to get rid of three years of loneliness and all the antisocial behavior that stemmed from it. One week to fall truly, madly, deeply in love with someone. Seriously? Nope.
I just wish the author had given them more time to actually develop feelings for one another instead of rushing things this way.

This book is rather slow-paced most of the time, but very well written. If you don't require , check it out.

I completely devoured this story. Loaded with thrills and chills, Jack and Aubrey's story kept me on the edge of my seat from the very first page. The romance itself is fantastic, but I also like how the author addresses some more serious issues as well.
This is definitely one of the more unique romances I've read lately so if you're looking for something different, you should check this one out.

The ending ruined it for me. Some people might like it or tolerate it. Me? Not so much. I don't think I will be reading any more of her work, not when 2 out of 3 stories that I have read had bad endings, in my opinion.

Was drawn to the lovely cover on the book. Read the description and the book sounded intriguing. I cannot complain at all. I loved the book. Right from the word go I was enthralled by it. Loved the 2 main characters. Loved watching how there relationship was built from nothing and not knowing one another to having to live side by side in the middle of nowhere. A huge test on the best of relationships. There were plenty twists and turns in the novel to keep your interest. Highly recommend this one

This one was very fast paced once you got about 25% into it. I really never warmed up to Aubrey and it wasn't til nearly the end that I began to warm to Jack. I was moderately engaged (though the beginning was very slow), but I did quite a bit of eye rolling over how far fetched much of it was.

I'm a little torn because like it said, I was engaged and read it super fast but when I stopped and thought about it I just felt like "these just aren't characters I like". I found Aubrey very imnamture, often self-centered, whinny and constantly CATTY. Just bc she didn't want to disrespect the dead and use their clothes a good person that did not make. She didn't respect anything Jack told her (i.e. Don't go in the cellar, don't snoop through my belongings, don't wander off past the snow clearing, lie down, dont do too much and tear your stitches). She wasn't fighting for survival during those transgressions she was just snooping.

And my God that ending SUCKED BALLS. It seemed like the author just couldn't pull off a plausible HEA and just said "fuck it, I'll leave them hanging" 😤

In the end I would just have to say read this one and decide for yourself. You may like the characters and find the story riveting. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

BTW- it's showing I read this twice. I did NOT! I just can't figure out how to change it to only one.

I had the privilege of reading this book prior to its release date and I'm so grateful. I've never read a "cabin romance" before so maybe I'm a little biased, but I really loved this read. What really worked for me was the wild, winter setting and the feeling of adventure that came with it.

Jack and Aubrey were great characters and I think Amanda Lance did a nice job of exploring survivor's guilt as well as PTSD. The relationships between the protagonists and the secondary characters were also well-written, and I liked the subtle comparison between Jack and Aubrey's sisters.
I'm not sure if this is a stand-alone or not, but there is definitely the potential for a sequel. I know I'd love to read more about Jack! <3 <3 <3

Aubrey Kent is a news intern and is traveling with a crew to Canada for an interview when the weather caused the helicopter to crash and only she survives. She is rescued by a stranger who takes her to his cabin. The weather and their remote location keeps them from getting help.

Lots of potential. The story itself was intriguing but the execution was a little rough. It was written in the first person point of view of Aubrey. There were times I would have liked to get Jack's point of view. There were parts that seemed to lag just a little for me. And I had issues with the ending. Overall, I did like the story but I wasn't in love with it.

I would have rated this book higher if it wasn't for the ending, unfortunately that ruined it for me.

Aside from the abrupt, unfinished ending that leaves the reader hanging, the story was slow moving and fairly predictable. There was a lot of inner dialogue, where I would have preferred the characters talking to one another instead. At times it was boring and I found myself skipping pages just to move the story along.

And then there's the ending.

WTF?!?!?!?!!?!?!?

This book broke free from the curse of being on my "To Be Read" list 🙌🎉

I absolutely loved everything about the story—the blend of cabin romance, slow burn, and suspense was well done.
The survival and caretaking moments are so well described that I felt immersed in the book.

Every moment was worth it!

And I loved the ending, it made perfect sense given the circumstances.

3 “Lucky” stars!

Aubrey Kent, an intern at the CCRB news station in Seattle, thinks she is was lucky to be chosen to join the news team on a trip to Canada to follow up on lead for a high profile case. She doesn’t think she is lucky anymore when she ends up in a cabin far away from civilization after surviving the horrible helicopter crash in northern Canada.

Upon waking, she meets Jack Gordon, the mysterious stranger that lives in the house. At first, Jack comes across as a harsh, brooding, uncaring individual but it turns out he was Aubrey's savior and he nursed her back to health. He very slowly starts to warm up to her but with his many mood swings, we get the feeling he is hiding something.

Aubrey desperately wants to get back to her sister to tell her she is still alive, but with increasing snow depths, no electricity, and no car to drive the 40+ miles to the nearest city, it doesn't seem likely that she will be leaving the cabin any time soon. Aubrey is having a difficult time understanding why she survived. The guilt she carries is hard to overcome and it seems that Jack understands Aubrey's situation more than she thought.
“Regret is only for mistakes, things you can’t take back. All you did was live when everyone else died – that’s nothing to regret. So, don’t be sorry, Aubrey. Don’t ever be sorry.”

The more time she spends with Jack, the more emotions start to stir inside of her. Smiles begin to appear between them and before they know it, a spark is lit.  The connection they feel is intense and they start to fall hard but what happens when the little bubble they have been living in pops?

Trapped was an enjoyable read that had just enough suspense to keep you on your toes. I liked the romance between the characters though I wished the book spanned a longer time frame to make the relationship more believable. Once Aubrey and Jack opened up and trusted each other, they were good together.
“I’m in love with you, Aubrey.”

“I know it isn’t logical, but I can’t help what I feel. I’ve heard people talk about it, read about it, and seen it in movies, and I ended up falling into every cliché anyway.”

Aubrey was a really sweet girl and I liked how caring she was especially when she wanted her sister to know she survived so her sister wouldn’t feel the pain of losing a sibling. Jack was a mystery and though I had an idea where the story was going, I still liked the way things were revealed. He grew on me because I knew he had a past that shaped him and his actions.

The story isn’t only about the sweet romance and there are some intense moments toward the end of the book that left my heart hammering. The situation was well written and I was nervous about the outcome. I am not sure how I feel about the ending because don’t think this story is finished. Even though it didn’t really end on a cliffhanger, I do think that it leaves the story open and I hope that there is more. I would like to see what the future holds for Aubrey and Jack!
“I know it’s a terrible thing to say, but that crash was the best thing that ever happened to me because it brought you to me."

There’s nothing quite like a good survival book to keep you on the edge of your seat. Trapped pulled me into Aubrey’s terrifying story right from the beginning and kept me riveted to the pages.

Whenever I read a survival story, I like to put myself in the shoes of the protagonist. What would I do if I was trapped in the wilderness with a stranger? How would I cope with the knowledge that I was the only one to survive the crash? Would survivor’s guilt, my injuries, my desolate surroundings, and the fear of my rescuer hinder my own will to survive and reduce my ability to find a way back to civilization? All of these questions were running through my own mind when I was contemplating Aubrey’s bleak situation.

Aubrey was extremely fortunate to survive the helicopter crash that killed her co-workers and pilot. She was even luckier to have been found in the desolate landscape where the helicopter had crashed. Waking up in a great deal of pain in an unfamiliar location would be frightening enough, but pairing that with the gruff, surly stranger who saved her was more than a little unnerving for Aubrey. She owed this stranger her life. He saved her from the crash site, nurtured her injuries, and shared his cabin and provisions with her.

Jack Gordon was anything but a warm and friendly do-gooder. He was a no-nonsense man of few words, preferring to keep to himself. He lived in those mountains by himself and was very familiar with the conditions. He didn’t want someone else impeding on his personal space, but he couldn’t just leave an injured woman out there on her own to succumb to the conditions and her injuries.

I loved the dynamic between Aubrey and Jack. She was so grateful for his care and wanted to get to know him a bit better. He wasn’t easy to warm up to. He only told her what she needed to know, never giving up too much information about his own life. But as they spent more and more time together, they grew to enjoy each other’s company more too. Despite Jack’s best efforts to keep himself closed off to Aubrey, he was getting accustomed to having her around, and dare I say, he was getting attached to her. But there was more to Jack than Aubrey suspected. Could this man who saved her life be just as much of a danger to it?

Trapped was an intriguing survival story, but it was so much more than that. It had great romantic tension between two characters that I was invested in, and to top it all off, it had the perfect amount of suspense that kept me eagerly flipping the pages. Between wondering how much Aubrey and Jack’s relationship would evolve and grow, what Jack’s secrets were, and if Aubrey would ever make it back home to her sister, I was completely immersed in the story and couldn’t wait to discover what was going to happen next. Amanda Lance has written a story that is fast paced, entertaining, thrilling, and romantic.

I finished this book a few days ago and have been trying to put the words together to get a semi coherent review accomplished. Now some would believe that it’s because I didn’t like the book, which is far from the truth. In fact I really enjoyed it and had a hard time putting it down. The issue stems from the ending. It wasn’t bad, not at all, but it was so damn logical that it left me in limbo where I agreed with it, I honestly couldn’t help it, but I didn’t want to.

Being hand picked to be apart of the team to investigate a fugitive sighting was a high point in Aubrey life until the helicopter she was in went down due a storm and now she’s battered and bruised and in a cabin in the BFE who scares the life out of her even though he saved it. Aubrey was nothing if not determined. Determined to survive, , to show no weakness and to never give up hope that she would be rescued. There were times when she was a bit of a PITA, but she kept at it and that strength of will is what helped to keep her alive. Well, that and Jack.

Jack is alone in the BFE without any of the creature comforts of the modern world, but he likes it that way. Having lived that way for so long, he’s forgotten what it’s like to actually have to interact with a person. Jack was gruff, irritable and at times scary, but the fact that he saved Aubrey’s life and helped to nurse her back to health, even if it wasn’t always gently, shows a compassionate heart. I really enjoyed seeing him come out of his shell throughout the book and ended up really liking him in the end.

Their relationship took time to evolve and it was very well done. While I’m not always a big fan when the MC’s do the push/pull thing, here it works because of the situation they find themselves in. I liked how Aubrey got Jack to open up and how she started to recognize that the man beneath the gruff and closed off exterior was a good one. While they were polar opposites they just worked and I liked watching as they grew closer in every way. As I said in the beginning the way this book ends is extremely logical and while I can’t argue with it, I’m crossing my toes that we’ll get more because I feel like they have a lot more to tell.

The writing was engaging and the story was well paced. The solo 1st person POV was done well and I liked how Aubrey went through every emotion known to man as she healed. It never felt like it was too much and quite honestly I’d probably be feeling the same way if I were ever in that position. The mystery/suspense part of the story was fun to watch play out. I guessed at part of it early on and loved how it was finally exposed and the fallout. I am hoping for more of Aubrey and Jack and if the powers that be allow it, I will definitely be waiting in line to get my hands on it.

Trapped was a nice surprise for me. A great romantic suspense novel that throws in quite a twist near the end.

Aubrey is trapped in the wilderness and gets rescued by Jack, a handsome loner with a secret. Aubrey becomes his reluctant roommate as the winter tolls on leaving the both stranded. As the time passes, they develop a tentative friendship that slowly morphs into more. But his secret threatens everything.

I loved the slow build of their relationship. Despite their differences, they seemed to get each other. And when one is trapped with a hot guy, one likely finds attraction and when they finally gave in, it was hot.

The ending was a little difficult for me, but still a great romance suspense novel that I am hoping leads to more of this story.

Amanda Lance has written a thriller, “Trapped”. I read this as fast as I could because I just had to know the outcome.

Aubrey is flying with a news crew to check out rumors that a mob hit man is holed up in the Canadian wilderness with the mob and the law after him. The weather turns deadly and the helicopter goes down. All are killed but Aubrey, who wakes up in a remote cabin with an uncaring man. It seems that he has rescued her from the wreckage, patched up her wounds and is stuck with her until the spring thaw. Aubrey tries to talk to him, make conversation, anything to fill in the dark, cold days. Snow storm after storm batters the little cabin and keeps the inhabitants snowbound.

Aubrey wants to go home. She knows that by now everyone thinks she is dead. Being with this stoic, hard man constantly is wearing on her nerves. There is something that he is not telling her. He has secrets; that she is sure of. Just what secrets and how damaging they may be to her she cannot fathom. When she does uncover his past, she finds herself in deeper than she ever imagined.

It is a good story - one that I read quickly to find out the ending. It will tug at your heart strings and horrify you all at the same time. I loved it.

This is the first time I have read anything by Amanda Lance and while I can't was I will read more by this author I can say this book has stayed with me since I finished.

The characters are stuck between being complex and unimaginable. Crazy I know. Aubrey is likable but at the same time the author created scenes that I felt I had read more than one in the book. While I enjoyed the character development at times it felt like the book was on repeat.

The story moved at a fast pace but than slowed down at the half way point and once again sped right back up at the end. The end left thrown together and rushed vs the first 80% of the book.

The author while other readers are disappointed with the end I the author left it open ended so if she choose to write another story she has the ability to. If she choose not to than readers will have to deal with the ending.

The story is simple love story with a little suspense. There it too much inner dialogue as well non building scenes that drags the story out.

Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy of Amanda Lance Trapped.

Aubrey is the sole survivor when the newscopter she was riding in crashes. She wakes in a cabin in severe pain and no memory of the crash. At first she is afraid of the man who pulled her from the wreckage but the longer she is trapped in the cabin with him the more attached she becomes and then she discovers who he really is. I thought this was an interesting story filled with suspense and romance. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Great book but the ending sucked

Could really relate to the people in this book because I have been there. The book was fantastic. I know someone like Jack in a way but the emotions were spot on. Love and forgiveness are amazing things. The past changes things irrevocably. I'm 3/4 of a century old now but still love to read. I cried a lot at the end just remembering the past. I chose for them to have a happy ending

Trapped by Amanda Lance is a unique thriller/romance. Aubrey Kent is an intern for a news station. Aubrey was in a helicopter that crashes in the snow, on the way to do a story with her co workers. Aubrey wakes up in a strangers cabin. Is he there to help or hurt her. This book has more twists and turns, that kept me reading page after page. Not sure what I think of the ending. Very interesting book that I recommend for people who like mystery thrillers.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Trapped was incredibly well-paced. It wasted no time in jumping into the plot, there was sufficient time given for Aubrey and Jack to bond, and the aftermath of the “reveal” was sorted out without feeling rushed at all.

4.5 stars

Aubrey is a news intern who was following a lead on a fugitive sighting in Canada when the helicopter she was on went down. Jack rescued her, the sole survivor of the crash, and brought her back to his cabin to nurse her back to recovery. With no way to get help due to the freakish weather, Aubrey has no choice but to stay in Jack’s cabin till spring.

I had expected the first half, where Aubrey and Jack bonded, to be dull. In fact, I was ready to skim through. But thankfully, it was made interesting mainly by their banter. I was actually really engrossed in this book that I barely made any highlights on my Kindle. Then came the second half where this relationship of theirs is put to the test. Would Aubrey still love Jack despite his past? Even though Jack’s identity was predictable, I really liked reading about how they managed to sort out their relationship after the “reveal”. It felt complete, like there was an actual resolution instead of some half-assed explanation.

Aubrey’s character was so wonderfully written. Being the only one who lived to tell the tale of the crash, she has to deal with survivor’s guilt on top of her injuries. They haunt her daydreams and give her nightmares. However, Jack is there to help her fight the monsters that lurk in the dark. She is also very independent, something that was borne as a result of her past. Despite her injuries, she proactively tried to do some things on her own.

To most people, I would be considered the lucky one in this scenario―the sole survivor
of a horrific accident. Maybe I was, and it was only my demented brain thinking otherwise,
but I suddenly wondered if I was the unluckiest of all.

Though I’m surprised that when she returned to civilisation, no one mentioned Stockholm Syndrome regarding her relationship with Jack. Or maybe it was implied through the suggestions for therapy sessions? Also, is it just me do did her injuries heal really fast? Is my mind screwing with the book’s timeline again?

Jack is a character of many layers. Due to his initial lack of interaction and awkwardness, he was a mysterious character from the start. And even when he does speak, he doesn’t reveal much about himself, only vague answers that don’t answer much. He may not be a kind person, but he’s very loyal to those he cares about. Also, despite his seemingly hard exterior and violent mood swings, he was actually really patient and understanding towards Aubrey.

This is a beautifully written and wonderfully paced book full of suspense and its fair share of friendly banter. It’s just that the ending leaves readers open to speculations about Aubrey and Jack’s relationship. Will they ever find their happy ending?? Please don’t leave me here to writhe in agony.
