When it comes to cancer, conventional doctors are trained to treat their patients exclusively with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. These methods are grueling on the whole body - and they don't treat beyond the tumor or the cancer itself. The focus is on the disease, not the whole person - and because of this, the outcomes in conventional medicine can be bleak. But it doesn't have to be this way. Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy has developed a whole-person approach to treating cancer - and these treatments have helped thousands of patients through her Cancer Center for Healing. In The Cancer Revolution, Dr. Connealy shows you how to get to the root causes of cancer and the practical steps you can take to get back on the path to healing -- from balancing your body's chemistry with nutritional supplements, following a healthy food plan, detoxifying your body and home, exercising regularly, getting deep restful sleep every night, practicing stress reduction techniques, and putting together a supportive healing team. Chemotherapy and radiation have their place in treatment, but in many cases, they are simply not enough, because cancer isn't caused by one thing, but by many different factors. All of these causes must be addressed, not just the tumor. The Cancer Revolution will equip you to make impactful, achievable lifestyle choices that fight the root of the disease, and that offer hope for recovery and a cancer-free life.
If you need its advice, read it and make your own judgement based on what your doctors, nutritionist, and other sources of scientific, peer-reviewed research say.
I read a lot of books about cancer survivorship, and I support "integrative" medicine to a certain extent. Dr. Connealy goes pretty far and wide from standard medical treatments in her suggestions. Coffee enemas, hyperbaric chambers, ketogenic diet, "oil scraping" your feet, ozone therapy and the like very may well be right for you... but not to the exclusion of standard practices and treatments. She also includes more traditional integrative techniques like journaling, meditation, avoiding environmental toxins and using supplements.
Cancer survivors want to feel in control of their disease, but one simply cannot do that, even with perfect lifestyle habits. Yes, readers -- do as much as you can for yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually to "heal yourself." Use this book, but use every tool in your toolbox to meet, fight and survive cancer.
I absolutely loved this book! Dr. Connealy does a great job of taking complex biological topics and making them more digestible for the general population. There’s lots of great tips and Dr. Connealy does a great job of summarizing all her information. I would purchase this book because there are tons of recipes in the back and this information is so important to have on hand and refer back to.
Very comprehensive look at all the latest treatments available for cancer. This is a book I would easily recommend to anyone who had a cancer diagnosis and was willing to think outside of the big 3: chemo, surgery, and radiation. The author makes a great point that in 50 years our outcomes are no better at all than they were when we began this type of treatment, but we continue to do the same thing and expect different results. This is actually the definition of insanity. She proposes a treatment plan that looks at the whole person and is tailored to their specific cancer and life. Much to ponder here. She believes that cancer does not have to be a death sentence, but instead can be a wake up call for you to a much better life.
If you are holistically minded, you’ll love this book. I do appreciate that it’s all about bloodwork and testing to get real results to see what your body needs. As someone whose Mom,Grandma, and aunt have all died of cancer, I’m very aware of me needing to have a different lifestyle than they did.
I appreciate the very tangible and applicable ways I can be intentional about my health.
Interesting and informative. I’m already kind of a healthy nut (and certainly a health researcher) so a lot of this was old news to me, but I did pick up a few new things—especially about pancreatic enzymes—so it was worth the read. I really enjoyed the anecdotes because I like to see people overcoming.
Some great practical nuggets. Addresses cancer preventative health for all people, and didn’t focus only on cancer interventions for people already diagnosed with cancer. Loved that! However if you’ve done much reading in the health space, you will find some of the information nothing new. First 2/3 of the book was great information imo!
This is an excellent book on being proactive, rather than passive, in preventing or battling a cancer diagnosis.
Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy discusses various strategies for strengthening the body, including a nutrient-dense diet (focus on organic, grass-fed animal protein and non-starchy vegetables), detoxification methods like infrared saunas and Epsom salt baths, exercise, nutritional supplements (such as turmeric), stress management through journaling/counseling, sleep, resolving internal emotional conflicts, and more.
I really like her idea of being proactive vs. reactive and the importance of restoring balance (homeostasis) in the body, not just physically but emotionally, too.
I find it very interesting that she, just like Gabor Maté in his book When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress, both agree that unresolved trauma and internal emotional conflicts have a direct correlation with a cancer diagnosis. This puts many things into perspective; for example, it becomes increasingly apparent that the connection between the body and mind is way stronger than we believe.
Finally, my rating for this book is 3/5 ⭐⭐⭐ just because I follow Dr. Connealy on Instagram and have already read most of what she writes in this book. Other than that, this is a great book on health. I highly recommend it.
It was interesting. It’s important to try everything to live healthily and beat cancer but some of the information sounded like it was not backed by good scientific research and testing. In 50 years we will probably find out things we are exposed to now are making us sick but until there’s scientific proof of that I’m not going to make an effort to avoid them.
I already knew a good chunk of the info in here (a lot of it thanks to following Dr. Connealy's work for several years), but still very informative and would be even more helpful to those who aren't familiar with some alternative options for cancer treatment.
Written by Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy, The Cancer Revolution: A Groundbreaking Program to Reverse and Prevent Cancer explains the many different options one has at their disposal when they want to combat Cancer, or prevent it.
Being into alternative medicine myself, I constantly read books that are related to my sector, and would like to stay abreast with modern medicine. Also, these books considerably help me with my research and quest for more information. I really wanted to know more about dealing with Cancer and what better than knowing it from a doctor's perspective, right?
I liked the detailed foray into different groundbreaking treatment options for cancer and also, healthy and natural options for preventing and treating cancer. I would have liked to see more detailed information on how Alternative Medicine deals with Cancer .... but this book does have a lot information on preventing Cancer and about integrating different treatment options depending on the Cancer Type, Stage, etc.
I particularly liked the 14 Days Anti-Cancer Wellness Plan & 7 Days Detoxing Plan given in this book and the detailed list of foods that help combat or prevent Cancer.
Over all, it is a good book to read for anyone who wants to know more about preventing or dealing with this epidemic. I would like to thank Net Galley and the Publishers for allowing me to review this eARC.
1 out of 3 women and 1 out of 2 men are developing cancer today. 🚨 Cancer is a disease of the entire body, not just a body part.
Since my dad’s premature death from pancreatic cancer, I have been increasingly doing more research and making changes to promote a cancer-free lifestyle. Many things include, low toxin substitutes (cookware, cleaning supplies etc) preventative screening, diet additions and more. I also work in healthcare (non-clinical) and am an advocate of an active lifestyle.
This book is chaulk full of practical, digestible insights and tools to deter & overcome cancer. Love how reader friendly this book is. Each chapter is set up starting with “in this chapter you will learn … (key objectives)
A few things stuck out for me:
💡STRESS ecourages cancer development because it releases hormones (such as cortisol) that promote inflammation.
💡SLEEP - restful sleep is critical to immune function. Many studies draw a link between sleep deprivation and cancer
💡INFLAMMATION damages cells (DNA & RNA). If your immune system is blinded by inflammation, cancer cells can easily reproduce
💡Let food be your medicine - some foods promote cancer growth and some have anti cancer benefits
Excellent, excellent read, gives you food for thought. Buying a copy to own.
This book gives detailed information on chemo and how it creates carcinogens for future cancer. As well as stats on dismal recovery rates as well as long term health damage that undermines the body's immune system in fighting cancer. I'd say this book is an A-Z resource on treatments, therapies, diet, etc. to review. This book is brilliant in its informative value. But lengthy in its detailed analysis. I'm going to go back through this book. It's a big meal to digest for the mind. Just to throw this out there, this book shares how the keto diet can help in healing the body. Other books recommend a vegetarian plant based diet for creating alkalinity in the body. This book has much more to offer then this eating diet. If you want to consider other food options. If you have cancer this is a great place to visit once you get through more shorter books. If time is an issue. I encourage you to check out the other books I've read on Goodreads. Top two books 1. Chris Beat Cancer by Chis Wark and Sodium Bicarbonate by Dr. Mark Sircus.

This is pseudoscience at its worst. Take HCL to help you digest organ meats? Use infrared to sweat out plastic? This is the wellness version of prayer healing.
People literally die because they eschew evidence based medicine in favor of snake oil "cures" like juicing or oil pulling.
Dr. Mercola, a known flim-flam artist, wrote the forward. That should give any discerning reader pause.
Cancer is scary. Books like these prey on that fear. They offer a sense of control (just eat perfectly, drink alkaline water, dry brush your skin!!). Ultimately, we don't have control. I'm not saying to give up and eat a pizza only diet, but I am saying this type of book is predatory writing meant to provoke a fear based OCD response. It's shameful.
This book opened my eyes to a world I didn’t really think existed. Natural approach to fighting cancer. I work in functional medicine but didn’t think of cancer until this last year and this book has helped so much. She lays a strong foundation of where it all starts and where we need to start with our health! She gives practical tips and is so helpful for things you can just do at home and then honestly the more expensive big time things you can do. So helpful, will probably read again for a refresher as the year goes on!
As a wife who watch my husband endure conventional treatment and now 13 years later work as a nurse administering those treatments through the hospital system, I have seen a lot. I wish everyone had this knowledge. This book presents it in a well organized and digestible manner. It offers options, control of your personal health and HOPE, which is missing from the conventional route. I recommend this to patients, their families and healthcare workers!
As a RDN, I know all too well that nutrition research is ever changing, but I give this book three stars because a lot of the content regarding diet conflicts with Dr. Connealy’s current opinions she shares on social media. Regardless, this book is a wonderful resource specifically revolving around testing and the types of providers to add to your oncology treatment team. It contains good advice on other holistic healing methods, but I would read other books if you want a book specifically on diet and cancer. This doesn’t take away from my appreciation of Dr. Connealy’s work in the field and all of her free info on podcasts and Instagram!
This is hands down one of the best books I’ve ever read. I know I’ll keep coming back to it—for my own health, to educate and advocate for my patients, family, friends, and honestly, anyone who will listen.
Am I grateful for Western medicine? Absolutely. Do we overuse it? Without a doubt. Our healthcare system is a mess, and people are sicker than ever. This book gives me hope. May we use it as a roadmap to a healthier, happier life for all of us.
Excellent book, especially in the current climate where cancer diagnosis is skyrocketing. I love how she gives examples that are free, low cost and high cost. She provides insights about how to heal your body and help a loved one going through cancer.
Knowledge is power.. this book honestly made me a little anxious.. I am pro traditional medicine/oncology.. but Iife style changes can always improve quality of life
Great book going over alternatives or complementary treatments. Even though I have learned a lot about alternative medicine, some of the treatments were new to me and were very intriguing.
I found only the first part useful where the author talks about blood tests that can indirectly detect cancer. The last part of the book is full of recipes which I didn't like.
A well-rounded and informative book about cancer—what it is and what causes it. It covers how cancer can be detected before it’s too late, while also giving an overview of the most common treatment methods, including both their strengths and weaknesses. Leigh Erin Connealy doesn’t discredit them, even though she spends most of the book presenting ways to prevent and support treatment through additional approaches, and she recommends doing so alongside conventional care. She also discusses the importance of timing in treatment.
It’s refreshing that she doesn’t embrace the common oncologist advice to “just eat as before.” Here, the author provides a solid foundation where food plays a key role, along with removing potential toxins, understanding the effects of supplements, exercising—how it becomes a must during treatment—reducing stress, and the essential role of sleep. She also addresses the negative impact that man-made radiation may have on cancer development. She could have explored even more the positive effects of sunlight on cancer.
The book is highly engaging and rewarding—right up until you reach the daily plans and the many pages of recipes for cancer-preventing and cancer-targeting foods, which may feel a bit less relevant if you’re someone without cancer.
