When Leigh Alexander returned home for her sister’s wedding, she knew her family would shun her as they have all her life. What she didn’t expect was to fall in love with Ryan Hart, a man who she’ll soon discover knows all the secrets her family and the people of Pine Hollow refuse to tell her. Revealing the truth about the Supernatural world is forbidden. To save Leigh’s life, though, Ryan will tell her everything about who she is, or more importantly, who she isn’t, even if it will forever change the lives of every person on the planet.

So it seems that small minded people can be found just about anywhere, including a shifter community who has one human child growing up among the shifters. Instead of telling the child why she is different, why not just shut her out, belittle her and make her feel unloved, an Outcast? Oh yeah, and keep huge, I mean HUGE secrets from her. Even her family was distant and Leigh never knew why, maybe because she was overweight? She never knew what she had done to make so many people hate her. Nice way to grow up and it didn’t end there. The best and worst feelings of her life came at her sister’s wedding, the one person who loved her no matter what, because in spite of the cruel treatment by everyone, there was Ryan. Hot, handsome, a bit of a rebel and he wanted her, just as she was. They had chemistry, it was electric, passionate and earthy, but someone just couldn’t let them be happy and they were prepared to go as far as killing Leigh and she still didn’t know why.
Her fate, her very life rests in the hands of the man she loves, but to save her, he needs to let her in on the big town secret, he needs to show her who and what he really is. How will Leigh react? Will she still want him? Ryan is willing to risk everything for the woman he loves, because that is what true love is all about.
Jennifer Lynn Reynolds’ Outcast is going to rock your world with emotional see-sawing. Sure, there is earthy, scorching sex, but it is more, it is making love…very hot love! There are characters that you want to claw their faces off, characters you want to hug and there are characters that are the biggest cowards ever to grace a printed page, but they may be redeemable. Leigh has been so damaged by those who should be her strongest support, I give that woman kudos for not telling them where to go. And Ryan? That man is a true find, a gem of a catch, a real man, regardless of what he turns into at times.
Ms. Reynolds has another emotionally charged high tension hit on her hands and for shifter lovers, you will find yourself in shifter heaven, plus you get to see shifters at their worst, as well as their very best! Did I mention the hot shifter sex? The very hot and earthy sex?
I received this copy from Jennifer Lynn Reynolds in exchange for my honest review.

Great second book in this series! I am really enjoying this series! I was a bit confused in the beginning because this book seemed not to be connected to Shifter but it is.
Leigh & Ryan have been attracted to each other for some time, although neither one knew how the other felt. That changed the night of Leigh's sisters' wedding. That is also when Ryan realizes that what he has been feeling is more than a simple attraction. But what can it be? Leigh is a human, not a shifter. She can't be his mate, can she? This is their story & the story of the Pine Hollow pack. And it's definitely one that fans of PNR will enjoy!!!
Even though Outcast is the second book in this series, it is a stand-alone novel set in the same fantasy world as book one, Shifter. Leigh Alexander has always felt like an outcast except with her younger sister Danielle, who has always accepted and loved her unconditionally. Leigh always thought it was her weight that had set her apart but despite that, she learned to be comfortable with her size. After attending college, she relocated to Washington State and made a life for herself far away from Pine Hollow, Tennessee. She supported herself editing books, working in a book store, and ghost writing a woman’s life story. Things were going well for Leigh until after her sister’s wedding where she became reacquainted with Ryan Hart, the groom’s best friend.
Ever since leaving Pine Hollow, Leigh seemed to have a lot of bad luck in all aspects of her life. When Ryan relocates to Washington to be close to Leigh, he also encounters a lot of what seems to be bad luck. Trying to solve the mystery of what is going on sends Ryan and Leigh back to Pine Hollow. There are a lot of twists in this story as secrets are revealed and plots are uncovered. Directions change course to involve the whole town of Pine Hollow, unveiling a corruption that must be stopped.
The family and social dynamics in Outcast were believable. But Ms. Reynolds has changed the rules in her unique fantasy world. I also enjoyed the differing points-of-view we were given, which helped define Ryan’s relationship with his parents, Leigh’s parents, as well his relationship with his best friend Dave. I found him more interesting and complicated than Leigh. (Okay, I just made myself laugh because I enjoyed the hunky male wolf more than the human female. Now, I have lost my train of thought… I blame Ryan!)
I think with a little more control over repetition and better proof-reading this could have been a five-star book. Outcast is an enjoyable original story with a few issues, but overall entertaining.
FYI: Outcast is book two in Jennifer Reynolds Supernaturals series. It is not necessary to read book 1, Shifter, to enjoy this story. This book also contains adult sexual situations, as well as a few F-bombs. **Originally written for "BigAl’s Books and Pals" book blog. May have received a free review copy.** July 6, 2016
Format/Typo Issues: I came across a small number of editing issues, which included extra, missing, or wrong words. There were also a couple of strangely worded sentences.
Leigh has never really fit in anywhere, not even with her family. The older she got the more people seemed to ridicule and distance themselves from her, well except for her sister Danielle. When Danielle is set to marry Dave and she begs Leigh to come she does so with great reluctance. She vows to herself that after Danielle and Dave take off for their honeymoon she is done with the rest of her family and the elitists of Pine Hollow for good. What she doesn’t know is that Ryan has other plans for her. Since the moment Ryan laid eyes on Leigh he felt a pull towards her and resented anyone saying anything derogatory or spiteful about her. When they meet again at the wedding he is determined to make Leigh his once and for all. Leigh is surprised that someone like Ryan would want someone like her. Being shunned all her life for reasons she doesn’t even know has left her with a bitter taste for the people of Pine Hollow. Yet Ryan manages to squirm his way into her bed and into her heart. Leigh refuses to be the one to cause Ryan or her sister anymore pain just by being associated with her so she sticks to her plan of leaving and never looking back. When Ryan shows up in Washington Leigh is both relieved and scared. Strange things have been happening since she left her sister’s wedding and they just keep getting stranger and more dangerous. Can Ryan convince Leigh that they belong together? How will Leigh react when the whole truth comes out and she realizes that so much of her life was a lie? Can she handle the truth and put aside her insecurities to be with Ryan? Or will it all prove to be too much for her to handle? When their being together seems to be the excuse some are looking for to start a war, will they find the allies and help they need or are they doomed before they even start?
I realize that I started this series in the middle, however I found this book to be well written and very engrossing.
This is the first time I have seen this type of racism and yes it is racism in a shifter book. It does move the story along and you can really feel how some shifters resent humans. This is especially true in Pine Hollow different from other packs as they are ruled by a council instead of an Alpha and believe me the Council believes it has this town in its' tight fist!
So meet Ryan, Leigh, Danielle and Dave they all belong to the Pine Hollow pack, all but Leigh the is, she is human. The family is allowed to live outside of the town for this reason and they were told to ostracize Leigh and the whole town is told to do so. Leigh's family treats her poorly all but Danielle that is. So at Her wedding to David, Ryan his best man has a decided interest in Leigh and does not appreciate the way she is treated. So the story goes along on how these four people start to bring down the Pine Hollow Council. Ryan realizes the Leigh is his mate and will stop at nothing to see to it that she is treated better.
This story is a good look at the politics behind ruling a pack and some of the discrimination that some shifters have towards humans, despite the fact that there are known cases of shifters having human mates.
I truly enjoyed this story. I found it well written and does give one a better perspective on life and politics inside the Pack. There is also lots of hot sexy loving and drama, drama, drama!!!!
So if you want a great read about shifters, humans, love, intrigue and politics then this is the book for you!. I am planning on reading the first and third book in this series. Jennifer Reynolds has me hooked.
Loved this second book in this series and the fact that we got to see glimpses of characters from the first book made it even better! All of her life Leigh felt as if she didn't belong. After being ridiculed and outcast more and more as she got older she was ready to say goodbye to her family and start fresh with out them. Enter Ryan... Oh my! Although he gave her some great moments she still felt she had to do what she needed to do, and even though the Sparks were flying she goes down her chosen path. When they are thrust back together unexpected things start to happen and plenty of things go awry. It's as if the world is trying to keep them apart will they find a way to be together? Or will they find its just not meant to be? Well that's the part you will have to see for yourself. If you like to take a walk on the wild side and love a good paranormal read filled with mystery suspense and romance this is definitely the one for you... Overall I found myself entranced into the story and loved the main characters. As well as some of the minor ones. I can't wait to see more in this series!!
I'm a bit of a PNR fan, okay I'm totally in love with PNR. But I do read other genres. Lots of them. This supernaturals series is beyond amazing.
Leigh... A normal, mere human.
Ryan... A hot shifter.
Neither would seem to be a good fit. But their attraction says otherwise. He sticks up for Leigh when she needs it. They go through some CRAZY mishaps, only to lead to... Well it's FANTASTIC, but I can't tell you what it leads to!
OMG, shifter "love" is so hot. SO HOT! This book does not disappoint. I LOVE this series so much.
I received this book for a honest review. This book has true emotions of feeling like a outcast. The hatred and loneliness. Jennifer has another amazing book. Highly recommend this book.
Dear lord, this book is beyond tedious.... I don’t know why after trying to enjoy book three with Talia and Casen,I really don’t know why I came back for more... Am I a bored literary masochist? Too curious for my own good ? Some of both I guess.... Dear lord, these are some of the most boring and tedious and prejudiced and petty ppl I’ve ever met... There’s not enough world building to explain shifters being sooo elitist and awful to their own family... And don’t even get me started at how the h said that the moment she became a “size 12” they turned on her... A 12 ? WTH ?!?!? Seriously? Your a fatty just because your in double digits ? What BS is this ?!?!?! F... you know I don’t know what part ticked me off more that for over a decade they let this stupid B think ( coz come on surely she had to have noticed something was different about them is every one is a shifter but her) they disliked her and shunned her worse than it sounds like even the Amish could ,all because her dress size dares to have two numbers ? Soo if she’d bloomed up to what a 14,16, or heaven forbid a number like a size 18 they’d have killed her in her sleep ? Seriously ?! How did she turn out “human “ to begin with ? Even if the man she sees as her father was/is her step father ,considering how these “ppl” are down right human phobic, I can’t see her biological father being human... soo both parents were shifters but somehow she’s not ? This is just soo over the top ( I’m sure there are worse ones out there though ) in its ridiculous human phobia and there really isn’t enough world building to explain it or why anyone would go to the lengths to harass her after her sisters wedding.... She’s not all that special and Ryan though a decent sounding guy, nothing about him either makes sense.... Honestly it’s was just tedious and over the top in insults and silky up sets, and honestly I’m sooo sick to death of women who honestly are really fat in the slightest, they just have normal healthy bodies who have been taught to hate themselves due the insecurity of others, wasting their time and mine hating on themselves for an entire book.... Not believing their can be loved by the H not matter who wonderfully he treats her simply because of her dress size... And Dear god,how is it a thing that a man thinks it’s a big deal that a woman would sit on a toilet and blow her nose in front of him ? Seriously ? Snot and farts only exist in fairy tales ? Silly angsty drama... someone is killing her elderly writing partner and keying her car, stealing her purse, cutting off the electricity to her apartment, messing with her FB posts, emptying her bank account and going as far as blowing up her place of work to get her for and to keep her from sleeping with a wolf shifter ? Really ? A bit over kill wouldn’t you say? I don’t think I’m doing a great job with this but I’m soo ticked off, between the other the top BS of the human/shifter thing, the wrongness of the fake fat shaming and just the over top tediousness of this plot I couldn’t go past 50% and I’m trying not to hate myself for even trying to in the first place... Damn my curious nature ;( I can’t wait to delete.... I wasn’t have the best day and this book soo hasn’t helped, unless my head now pounding counts....
Lovable Characters, vivid and captivating world development...
This is the second book in Jennifer Reynold’s Supernaturals series. If you read Shifter, you’ll be reintroduced to old friends. If not, don’t worry this book stands alone just fine.
Leigh grew up with a family and a community that hates her. Why? Good question. She thinks she’s an Outcast because she has always struggled with her weight in a town that has superhuman metabolism... literally. But, she’s wrong. The town has rejected her because she’s the only human in a world of shifters. The ruling council is old-school, prejudice and unyielding... And, defying the council has serious consequences.
When Leigh returns home for her sister’s wedding, the bullying, snide comments and harassment are even worse than she remembers. The only good thing about the entire situation is the strong bond she shares with her sister — and Ryan, the grooms’ best friend. Leigh and Ryan have a chemistry that neither understands. Ryan, a rebel at heart, decides to defy the town and his family to act on his feelings — suspecting Leigh might be his mate. Leigh reluctantly gives in and enjoys an electric, passionate evening with the hot guy she’s been attracted to for years.
The consequences are swift. Leigh flees town, determined to put it all behind her for good. Ryan is disowned as he follows his heart. Strange occurrences and bad luck turn dangerous, forcing the couple to finally turn to the Sullivan pack for help. Enter magic, retribution and a battle nobody wants.
This story draws you in from the very beginning. You get a clear understanding of the small-minded, cruel discrimination and persecution Leigh faces from page one. The characters are well developed, the mystery draws you in, and the bad guys make you root for the underdog. If you’re looking for a quick read with an intriguing storyline, I recommend you give this one a try.
Ryan and Lee are the main characters and the story switches back and forth between them. Lee is the outcast, adopted by a shiftier family. She's the oldest child and her family leaves the pack town moving outside it. The pack are elitists who believe shiftier can only be with shifters. They don't accept others into their pack. Lee doesn't know what her family is and equates being an outcast to her full figure.Ryan is a shiftier in the same pack as Lee's family. When he meets Lee he feels an instant connection with her and he's not afraid to drop the pack and follow her.
The character development is strong as the reader gets into both Ryan and Lee's minds. Lee even though insecure has backbone and wits. Ryan is kind of an alpha type but he's also gentle and caring. They meet when Lee's sister marries Ryan's best friend and neither can deny the connection they feel towards each other. After the wedding Lee goes back home to Washington. Upon her arrival strange events start happening to her. When Ryan follows and they pick up where they left off the events become threats and they are forced to seek pack protection but not the pack they're associated with.
There is plenty of suspense woven into the story that builds for an exciting climax. There's also a couple messages in the story. I'm not sure if the author meant for them but they're there. Acceptance of those different than us and a full figure can be sexy. I loved that and found myself rooting for their love throughout the story.
This isn't the first book I've listened to by Jennifer Reynolds or Margie Stephens. They make a good combination and compliment each other.
Another awesome Jennifer Reynolds book! I super loved the first book in this series so I was so happy to discover a second (& I'm excited for the third!
Outcast is a sweet/spicy romance involving shifters (I love me some paranormal!) between a human woman and a shifter wolf (not to be confused with a werewolf). The leading man and lady already had a big of history, so it was fun to see their romance grow out of that.
There was also the added plot line of a town full of prejudice and utter control. I was rooting for the characters to break free from it!
I loved the side characters in this one, especially the main character's sister and her husband, and the reintroduction of some characters from the first book!
Looking forward to reading more from Ms. Reynolds!
I really enjoyed Outcast as the second book in this series. Ryan and Leigh didn't at first seem connected to the first book but as the story unfolds we find out how they are. It's another great story of the guy loving and seeing the beauty inside and out when even she can't. I can't wait for the next one!
Ryan and Leigh story had a lot of people interfering, meanness, bulling, hurtful and people pissed them off to no end. Ryan had to fight all the damage the 97% of these people had done to Leigh. There was magic, witches, angel, regents, Sullivan’s, humans and all kinds and types of shifters that came together. I can’t wait to see who falls next.
I dunno, it's been a couple of years sin I read the first one but that certainly didn't diminish my enjoyment of this one. The publisher's blurb gives hints and there is no need for spoilers, but that can't begin to prepare you for all the laughs, suspense, plot twists, and other surprises contained in this story. Margi Stephens is very good at character differentiation and emotions.
From left field to center court (sports analogies- it's that time of year) Ryan & Leigh finally come together. Facing prejudices, harassment and physical dangers, they start their life together. You have to read the book to find out what else happens! Thank you for your time, Talent, and the stories!
How her parents kept their secret all her life Leigh was amazed. Ryan didn't know how he could feel the way he did about Leigh. Follow their unique story. Wonderful storyline, with more of Abby and Dimitri.
Leigh only went back to her hometown because her sister begged her to come to her wedding. Leigh was an outcast in Pine Hollow for reason, they called her fat because the rest of women of Pine Hollow were thin with fast metabolisms. Ryan, the best man at the wedding, has had his eye on Leigh and wanted a chance to meet her. Leigh doesn't know she is a human in a shape-shifter town. Ryan doesn't care, he is drawn to her for some reason, they are each other's mate. They will have to face odds of a shape shifter and a human being mates plus the town council will do everything in their power to stop them. This is awesome book, lots of hot love scenes and we get to see more of Abby and her husband from Shifter (Book 1) although this is a standalone story. I received this book as an arc for a honest review.
Ms Reynolds is a new to me author. I enjoyed her story of Leigh, a woman who has been made to feel like an outcast her entire life and has no idea why or of the amount of secrets surrounding her family and the entire town her family has chosen to be part of. She's always been ridiculed, whispered about, and shunned by the town and her family, other than her sister, Danielle, but stayed loyal to her family through it all. She's only home for Danielle's wedding and then plans to go back to her life across the Country as soon as the festivities are over. However, things change when Ryan -- a shifter, unbeknownst to Leigh -- seems to become her protector, regardless of the consequences, and they discover that they have a mutual attraction to each other. Because of outside interference, they have to part for a time, but Ryan doesn't give up on Leigh. I love that this story not only shows the ugly, but also the good side of all species when acceptance, tolerance, and truthfulness are abundant. I also must warn that this story does contain very steamy bedroom scenes. Definitely worth reading.
