In this one, Queen Relna has changed her shape into a red tiger, and when the kids go into Droon, the magical staircase takes them to an island. They meet a Clown named Torak. One of his jokes is, "What's the difference between children and fish? Give up? I like fish. Ha ha!" There are two other creatures. One is Slag, the strongest person in Droon. The other is Pilka. The kids thought the joke meant Torak didn't like them. Torak was competing in the Droon quest. Whoever won got what he or she wanted.
This was something different. It didn’t feel as high stakes as they usually do. This felt like the olympics were happening at the circus. And keeah trying to find her mom
Still enjoyable, but felt like it lost it’s charm
- Message from galen about keeah - Meet tarok the clown - Keeah has been in disguise to follow her mom. So droon thinks she’s lost - Droon quest is held every seven years in a kingdom with no magic so everyone is equal - Prize is a wish for whatever the winner wants the most - Getting ready to race when keeah senses something off. As tarok walks by… - Invisible man is trying to sabotage the friends - Neal is volunteered for tarok’s act while everyone else searches the wagon - Tarok beats the kids to the finish of the quest. He dumps the bowl of magic that was meant for keeah - eric finds another jewel from keeah’s harp - Tarok says that keeah’s magic comes from demither

Another great addition to the Secrets of Droon series! My boys love these books as read-alouds. The kids in the story are fun and the quick action of each chapter holds their interest. There is little substance to these books, but the fact that the story carries over book to book keeps them wanting to read the next one. They are quick, fun reads and are definitely great for bedtime reading!
This was a pretty good one, but without the main antagonist, it felt like it was missing something. The two villains were mysterious and not explained well. I also felt like the quest was kind of hurried and not given enough time. Not enough character development. Hope the next one is better.
This Droon book was decent, without being particularly thrilling. Each of the Droon books seems to follow a set pattern: first, in our world, the three kids Eric, Neal and Julie, grouse about how much they want to go to Droon. Then something happens to indicate that it is time to go back, they rush into Eric's basement to activate the rainbow stairs. Descending the stairs, they see something disturbing before running into one of their Droon friends. The Droon friends inform the kids of some emergency, and then they all travel for a bit. Then there is a climactic conflict, followed by the kids ascending the rainbow stairs "until next time."
Quest for the Queen is no different. You may recall that Princess Keeah's mom, Queen Relna, has been cursed to lose her human form and to continue shape-changing periodically. You may also remember that Keeah has her mom's bow-harp, which is inlaid with jewels containing a pictorial history of Relna's life (past, present and future), but that two of the jewels have been pried loose.
I've decided to read The Secrets of Droon series entirely for Christmas since i've been feeling a bit nostalgic. I want to be able to live a bit of the magic of being a kid and what beeter to help than this incredible series. I know that this series is for young kids but i feel it will still be great after all these years. This book has a bunch of new characters including new villains; Sparr doesn't make an appearance in this book either. It had action and twists and it is leading you to mysteries of the future. We find out more about the world of Droon too.
This one didn't work for me... The kids and new villains Tarok and Slag are competing in a race with a Greatest Wish prize. Magic isn't allowed, but Tarok of course cheats--and there were no consequences. Which bugged me. Also, when did Demither become evil? Confusing.
Reading this series to a 5 and 7 year old, and they LOVE it. I read all these books when I was like 7 or 8. I definitely recommend. Easy level reading, and plots aren't too complicated. Perfect for ages 5-10
