Eric B. Hare and his family served as missionaries in Burma (Myanmar) for many years. He is best known for his mission stories, which thrilled children at summer camps and camp meetings for years.
I originally was going to give this book four stars because it was so hard to get into at first. But by the time I finished it, I realized just how amazing it was.
This book parallels some of the stories from Eric B. Hare's other books with mini Bible studies, and that's one reason it took me and my family so long to get into it. The stories from the first half were mostly repeats from his other books and the Bible study material was a bit lengthy. But when we reached the second half, we were captivated. Especially by the last two chapters. The second to last chapter recounted some "newer" stories and paralleled them to Jesus' life on earth, especially his crucifixion. It was amazing the way he told it, quoting Ellen G. White often and giving different perspetives of Jesus' death from different people around the cross.
And then the last chapter was just...wow. It paralleled "Dr. Rabbit's" experiences when he was fleeing the Japanese army during World War II with how it will be at the end of time. It truly brought that into a new light for me.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has read his other books and/or reads Mrs. White's books too.
