Basket of Flames - A Biography of José Martí

Rate this book
Since its first edition (Havana, 1996), which won the National Prize Citicism for Social Sciences, Cesto de llamas [Basket of Flames] has continued to attract the attention of the public and specialists due to its own qualities and the extraordinary life studied on its pages. It has had three editions in Cuba and one in Spain, where likewise it has been valued highly; and even in countries where it has not been published, it is considered a basic resource. One of its achievements 1s its power to communicate with a wide range ofreaders. While this first Englısh language edition is being prepared, it is also being translated into Chinese and new editions in Spanish are already foreseen. The eminent Cuban professor and critic, Ricardo Repilado, has written: “If someone declares that this is the most faithful, lucid and organic exposition of Marti’s life that has been published to date, that person’s criteria can be gladly supported, and it can be added that it is also the impressive, spiritual portraitofa man who is passionate and pure like a flame.”
