Gertie has become friends, and has possibly fallen in love, with both a demigod and a vampire, who happen to be at war. Although she sympathizes with the vampire uprising and has even become a vampire herself, she distrusts the leaders, especially when they plan to kill humans to cull out the demigods before ambushing them. As the three unlikely friends discover that neither side is perfectly good or evil or right or wrong, they work together to try to bring about the best outcome; but, when their parents and the gods undermine their efforts and hang them out to dry, the three teens realize they're on their own and no one will save them.

Really enjoyed the sequel! The character progression was brilliant and the introduction to new issues in the world was brilliant. I felt my heart beat faster as we get closer to the main plot issue. Cant wait to find out what happens in the next book!
This is a story that will truly be enjoyed by readers of all ages. It is an easy, light read that really packs a punch. It is well written with an inviting flow that allows readers to delve deep into the story at hand. But it is also a series that needs to be read in order for context, especially since this novel picks up right where the last one left off. The plot is well thought out and excitingly upbeat. I’ve great a great deal of work by this author in the past, & enjoyed it all, but I must say that this may just be my favourite yet. Pohler’s mix of vampires, Greek mythology, and mythology is inescapable. She draws you into her world and holds you throughout.
Pohler takes actual Greek mythology as her basis and shows readers what could happen if we still believed it were true today. She also gives it a paranormal twist to take it out of this world. Pohler’s unique vampires are very well developed. I love how she keeps the general concept of blood drinking vampires and makes them all her own. She does all this with an underlying message of anti-bullying and acceptance that really sticks with you.
The well-developed characters in this novel are very approachable and easy to form opinions about. There were some that I loved, and others that I absolutely hated, but very few (if any) that I was ambivalent about. She continues to develop the individuals that we met in the first novel and introduces us to some unique new ones in a way that will catch your attention. No one is unimportant in this cast. It was the perfect cast for this novel. I really love how Gertie reads things, all available accounts of them, and combines those accounts to come up with her own conclusion like a true academic. Her chatterbox personality never failed to make me giggle. Also, the differing speech patterns for the characters speaking in Greek and those speaking in English make the translations and the contrast between the two really stand out.
My final thoughts? The quest of the Demigods! Boo Yeah!!! Anyone who knows Greek mythology will understand and those who don’t just may learn a thing or two while having a blast with this unforgettable tale.

There is nothing that I don't love about Eva Pohler and her books! This book is no exception!
We pick back up with our confused characters after Book One leaves off and we are on a roll. All of the characters are fictional but Pohler is able to pull bits of history and Greek Mythology and intertwine all three! It's an amazing feat and her writing is flawless and pulls you right in!
What do you do when the person you think you're in love with might have betrayed you?, you join him for the ride of your life. This book is full of adventure heartbreak and more. Hector is in love Gertie but she's in love with Gino or so she thinks until things change and she is caught in a love triangle that she will have to get her self out of. The three soon become a group out to help destroy an old vampire and help restore the vampires reputation. I love the story behind these characters. Can't wait to see what happens with Gertie? Hector? And Gino? What will become of this trio of friends..,
I really enjoyed it even the heart wrenching feels along the way. Eva creates a cast of characters that's hard not to fall in love with. She has her own creative twist on vampires which is so hard to find. There are very few books I can get excitedly obsessed about but Eva's is definitely one of them. I really enjoyed reading it.
This had a little over 200 pages and was a quick read. This is the 2nd book of the series.
Vampire Affliction by Eva Pohler is the second book in the Vampires of Athens series. It begins right where book 1 Vampire Addiction left off. So if you have not read Vampire Addiction, stop right now and go get that book and read it first. In this story Gertie is struggling to deal with her change to a vampire. She has Jeno to help her and support her, but she misses her human friends and family. When the vampires plan a rebellion she has to choose between her new vampire family and her human family. The story is very well written and the plot flows smoothly with lots of twists and turns and excitement. I love the characters that Ms. Pohler has created and I have become especially attached to Gertie, Hector, and Jeno. I like the love triangle between the three and I think it works very well in the story. I also like how all three of them have a friendship that works even with the love triangle. I am a huge fan of these books and I can't wait to read the next one. The ending of book 2 left me in shock yet again and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Vampire Affliction picks up where book 1 left off with Gertie being a vampire and learning how to adapt these changes with the help of Jeno. The two of them along with Hector are trying to stop Jeno's dad from doing something real bad (not gonna tell ya, you'll need to read it to find out ;) ). Although Gertie is happy to be with Jeno and is adjusting to her new life, she is missing her family and will do anything to protect them from what is being planned by Jeno's dad.
I absolutely love Eva's take on this with the combination of Greek Mythology and Vampirism. She takes two very different subjects and combines them effortlessly. The story flows very nice and just when you think things are going in one direction, there is a twist and you are pulled in another :)
This was an absolutely amazing continuation of the series, and I couldn't put it down. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me think, it showed that sometimes it isn't about good and evil, but perspective and communication, and it sated my need for more Greek mythology Pohler style! There were some major feels in this book, but it was definitely worth it. I absolutely can not wait for the next book!!!
I really really really wanted to like this book. Something about Percy Jackson crossing over with Twilight seems appealing, but this book failed epically. The writing is juvenile, the dialogue forced, and I absolutely hated the way some of the characters acted. They seemed too cartoonish, too outlandish to be realistic. It was so bad, I literally leafed through the book just to find out what happens.
wow! I don't know what more I can say when it comes to Eva Pohler and her creativeness! I love all of these characters so much, it's hard to know who to feel bad for!
Jeno & Hector (sigh), I'm so glad they're beginning to get along. However, I hope their new-found friendship can keep up after that doozie of an ending!
I love Eva Pohler's books, all ages can read them. They are not dirty in any way. I have even had my girls reading them. I love all things Greek and when you add Vampires to the Greek Gods you truly can't go wrong. Eva always tells a great story and keeps you wanting even more. She is an amazing story teller and this book proves it yet again. So make sure you pick up all of her books today
A start to a new adventure begins this time the story doesn't focus on the angelis's family but rather on the 3 friends = Hector , Jeno & Gerite with her conflicting feelings for both boys yet thrown into some seriously situations where they have to trust believe & have faith in each other that their plans will come thru but there here some obstacles in their path to get Phoebe & diemen back to Mama but to do that they have to also free the vampires from the mind control of Jeno's Father. Jeno is have confusion within his actions against his father for one moment he is for his father and the next hes against him cause he feels like he betrayed his father . Little did they know that in order to free Phoebe they had to destroy Diemen. During the mist of this Gertie learns her hidden talent and who her father is!!!! The unthinkable happens Jeno was lying to both hector and gertie but he really was just using them to help gain the vampires freedom and turned them in to his father when he told them that he was going for a fly and be back by dusk he really was flying back to his father's to give him the invisible helmet and told him about their plans!!! Jeno betrayed them but in reality he was only doing that so that he could get his father's trust and show loyalty to his ppl and also convince him to kill them both but the true plan was to kill his father and Damien to free not only Phoebe but to save Hector and Gertie in the end Jeno had to turn one of Mama's son's into a vampire to save his life but now has to kill another vampire that not only threaten Hector's but gertie's life but to turn Mama's son back into a human and they allowed Jeno to turn her son into a vampire so that he could live now the mission is set for the next book Ascension! This book is an on the edge of your seat thiller better than the last cant wait to finish this and dive into the final book - Ascension
OMG! I think this author is trying to kill me! This was so good! There was a big surprise at the end. And of course, a small cliffhanger but it was in a good spot. And it was so good, who’s counting as long as I have the next one RIGHT NOW lol. I have gotten so close to these characters. Some I love to hate and was happy about some things, which I’m dying to tell. I am torn between Jeno and Hector. And will Gertie ever be human again? The whole mythology with the gods is amazing. I love how it’s woven all throughout the book. We meet a lot of the gods in this one. I really liked the snake and how the S’s were hisses lol. Gertie seem to not so much go back and forth with the two guys but tries to consider their feelings equally. They are all three together throughout the book trying to save the vampires and just keep an uprise from happening. We even get to visit Hades in the underworld. If you haven’t read or listened to the first book, I suggest beginning there or you will be lost.
The narrator was ok. She’s perfect at telling the story but not very good at the voices, especially the male ones. Most sound the same and mechanical like a computer. It sort of takes me from the story at times but not too bad. I think she did better in this book than the first. She does have a pleasant sounding voice though. The book is so good, I highly recommend it and the audiobook.
This 2nd book in the Vampires of Athens series is just as awesome as the first book. In this book we find Gertie, now a fully fledged vampire, falling in love with both Jeno the vampire, and Hector the demigod, who were at war with one another. She fully supports the uprising being planned by Vladimir, Jeno's father supposedly to bring freedom to the vampires. However when they ask various gods for help all they get is more demands for impossible artifacts, and they are sent on one quest after another, when all they want is to save Phoebe and Damien, the two young children of the family who had become loved by Gertie more than her own. The trio realise they have to work together if they are to save the kids and themselves, as now they are targets for the vampires. But can they with all the things going on survive the vicous attacks, lies and betrayals? This book is very exciting, I love that we get to see a bit of the underworld and so many of the olympian gods but hate that the gods only look out for their own personal interests and greed! I look forward to reading the rest of the series as the ending leaves us with a big question mark!
So the writing was much more mature this time around, unfortunately I can't say the plot was as entertaining. I mean how many times can these characters go on a mythological wild goose chase? How about one iota of originality. And omg it was so cheesy and cliche. Not sure it's completely necessary for me to see this happily ever after.
This one was a little bit better...the main character still rubs me in a way where she just seems whiny. I don't know why I am unable to get with this series. It is typically something I would like. I am really liking the overall plot with Gertie though and who and what she is. I'm still excited to read the next and final book in the series.
Book 2 takes us further into the life of a vampire! You get to feel their struggles, their lives and how it isn’t as glamorous as you might think! Book 2 is a lot more of an emotional rollercoaster! And that cliffhanger!! Now I have to know what happens in book 3!
This is a great YA romance series packed with lots of stuff about vampires and some really original combinations of vampires and Ancient Greek gods. I enjoyed the first so much I downloaded the other 2 in the series. If your kids enjoy books like Rick Reardon's Trials of Apollo and Percy Jackson series, they will enjoy this, especially the girls as its written from a 17 year old girls POV.
Maybe not the ending I was looking for but a great book nonetheless. Besides there's book three. So hopefully things turn around. I would recommend to a fellow Vampire reader.
YALL ARE NOT READY there are so many twist and turns and "i kinda knew that was gonna happen" as well as " i did not expect that to happen" hold on tight spider monkey because you are in for it. This was also a book that was very hard to put down.
This book was exceptional. I love the series and the unexpected turns. I think Eva Pohler did a good job revealing the truth and where loyalties lie. Secretly voting for Hector and Gertie though!
