About the author

In interviews, she has said she realized she wanted to be a writer sometime between kindergarten and first grade, “when a teacher praised a horrible poem I’d written”, and began writing in earnest in elementary school. Smith received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Experimental Psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1987, followed by teaching credentials in Elementary education and Special education from San Francisco State University.
She taught kindergarten and special education for several years before becoming a full-time writer. Her first book, The Night of the Solstice, was published by MacMillan in 1987, followed by, Heart of Valor in 1990, and the 4-volume Vampire Diaries series in 1991-2. Three trilogies followed: The Secret Circle (1992), The Forbidden Game (1994), and Dark Visions (1995). The first installment of her popular Night World series was published in 1996, followed by eight more over the next two years. In 1998, Smith began a decade-long hiatus from writing, returning in 2008 with a new Web site and a series of new short stories. The Vampire Diaries series was reissued in 2007, followed by re-printings of The Secret Circle trilogy and Night World series in 2008/2009. The Night of the Solstice and Heart of Valor was also reissued in 2008. Three new Vampire Diaries installments were published in 2009 and 2010.

So I go back to LJ Smith every so often. They're my comfort books. This time round, recovering from a violent migraine made her blend of gentle romance/teen drama/supernatural elements particularly soothing.
Sometimes, no matter how hard I try otherwise, some problematic issues always crop up for me on rereading these. This time round, no matter how much I wanted to delve into romantic alternaworld, I found it really hard to get past the scenes where Hannah persists in falling in love with somebody she believes is a violent stalker. Ladies, there is nothing romantic about a man hitting you, no matter how sorry he is afterwards. And I know, I know, it's not actually him. The reader always knows (or at least, the canny reader knows) that it's not actually him. But Hannah doesn't know. Hannah believes, for a short while at least, that she is in love with somebody who has irrationally possessive, violent tendencies toward her. Sure, she acquits herself well. She is a very admirable character, who is always self-posessed, and who communicates with her apparent stalker in no uncertain terms. BUT. But. You're still expected to invest in their romance, when, ostensibly, it is an insanely abusive relationship. This doesn't sit well with me any more.
I'm also intrigued by the mention of Hannah having once lived a lifetime as 'Ian'. A man. What happens in the Nightworld when two soulmates are of the same sex? Same sex relationships are utterly lacking in these books, aside from this one tiny mention. I feel that could have been expanded upon. I would love if that was expanded upon.
Gender issues aside, this is a great midpoint for the series. It explores the history of the universe more thoroughly, and catches you up with characters from previous books. I feel like the events of this book, the death of one character in particular, should have more weight in the overall universe. But, as it's an unfinished series, let's be generous and say maybe consequences might have arisen.
Overall, not my most favourite, not my least loved. A very competent middle.

This wasn't my cup of tea. It was too focused on the romance factor of the story, which isn't such a huge problem in other books, but the plot was wonky and some of the storyline didn't add up. The beginning was relatively engaging, but for me it fell apart as the story progressed. The ending I feel was a little rushed, but of course, the books in this series aren't long so it must be difficult to fit all you want in the novel. There were still some positive aspects in the story, and I reccomend reading it if you just want to pass the time in an interesting world. I love how the series has little Easter eggs and such throughout each novel, and the writing in general is simple and easy to read.

Štai ir šeštoji serijos knyga, kurioje artimai susipažįstama su Tjeriu ir Maja. Šioje dalyje visas dėmesys skirtas reinkarnacijai. Joje taip pat pasirodo kitų knygų veikėjai iš „Slaptoji vampyrė“, „Kerėtoja“, „Tamsos angelas“ ir „Pasirinktoji“. Na, ir šiek tiek pasirodo vilkolakių. Bet vis dar mažai kas apie juos papasakojama. Tjerio ir Hanos santykiai man labai priminė mane patį ir vieną žmogų.... meilė ir neapykanta. Tad dėl to man labai patiko šita knyga- suteikė vilties...

The sixth entry in L.J. Smith's Night World series, in which a hidden society of vampires, witches and shape-shifters exists alongside the human world, Soulmate follows the story of Hannah Snow, who begins to receive threatening notes - written in her own hand - as her seventeenth birthday approaches. As Hannah struggles with the incredible discovery that she is an "Old Soul," someone who was been reincarnated many times, she finds herself drawn into a deadly love triangle with Maya, the mother of all vampires, and Thierry, the first "made" vampire. It's a story that has played itself out countless times, down the generations - and it always ends with Hannah's death. Will this time be any different?
This story of eternal love, reincarnation, and the quest for redemption, is probably the most romantic book in the Night World series. It expands upon the "soulmate principle" that informs all of the other books, and fleshes out the foundation mythology that Smith began unfolding in Spellbinder . Here the reader will learn more about witch-twins Maya and Hellewise, the creation of the first vampire, and the birth of the Night World. Here too, the reader will discover a little more about Circle Daybreak, in a highly enjoyable scene that reunites many of the major characters from the first five books. The pre-historic narrative strained my suspension of disbelief a little, but Smith wisely keeps that aspect of her story rather vague.
As I have mentioned elsewhere, this series is something of a guilty pleasure. While perfectly aware of the abundant teen cliches, I nevertheless find myself sucked into Smith's world. Her heroines are usually intelligent, strong-willed girls, and her ideas about tolerance and the need for respect are most welcome.
This story of eternal love, reincarnation, and the quest for redemption, is probably the most romantic book in the Night World series. The werewolves broke in while Hannah Snow was in the psychologist’s office.
Plot.
Hannah is seeing things in her dreams, finding little notes warning her of danger over her house - written by herself with no memory.
Hannah deciding on going to a psychologist to uncover what is going on.
When Thierry, Lord Of The Night World turns up and things begin to clear up.
She discovers that she is an Old Soul, and his soulmate.
She has lived multiple lives, each time trying to find Thierry, and each time being killed, by Thierry’s jealous maker Maya.
Can Hannah break the cycle and be with Thierry or will she be killed by Maya again?
What I Liked.
I liked that despite it being another vampire story, that this one has a twist. We got to see Hannah living through different lives, trying to find her lost love.
We also got to meet all of the characters from previous books - bar Mary-Lynnette, and see them together as Circle Daybreak.
What I Didn’t Like.
The ending seemed a bit rushed.
Overall.
It was good, I might have liked it more if it was released before The Chosen, but enjoyable all the same, her books are getting better with each one.

Annnnnnnnnd this is my favorite.
This had some amazing moments. There's the usual characters, vampires, werewolves, witches, and a new added twist, reincarnation (which I'm absolutely obsessed with).
Hannah Snow starts seeing a therapist to figure out how and why she's writing notes to herself while she's sleeping. But on her first ever visit, two werewolves bust through the window. Something in Hannah tells her she needs to find something silver, she needs something to protect herself with. The next day, Dr. Paul Winfield decides to try hypnosis on Hannah. What they discover is far beyond explanation.
Suddenly, Hannah is thrown into a prehistoric world where she sees herself and immediately knows this is one of her past lives, a past life she never even knew she had. All of her Night World knowledge finally begins making sense. For thousands of years, she's been hunted by the original vampire, Maya. I absolutely love Maya and I know she's the villain in this story, but I love her.
Of course, the soulmate theory pops up. But it's so pure. Hannah and Thierry are my absolute favorite couple. It's still a VERY teeny-bopper relationship but it was just amazing to me.

If you are romantic (like me) and like the sound of love lasting for thousands of years, this is the book for you.
Among some of my favorites. Outstanding literary work. The characters are well developed, interesting. The liked characters are likable and the hated are unlikable. The writing is captivating enough to keep you interested until the end and leave you wanting more. It has a fairly original or uniquely well-developed plot. The pretense and romance were well balanced and done with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors, and chemistry. Not so much predictable if at all. Overall, loved it, I recommend reading!!

Hmmm me gustó bastante PERO hay varias cositas que me dejan dudando. No lo sé. Por ejemplo que los Vampiros aquí no pueden convertirse después de los 19 porque sus cuerpos rechazan la transformación (eso se me hizo absurdo) y lo más importante... el hecho de que Thierry existe desde la era de piedra y que Hannah tiene 16 años :))))))) RED FLAG!!!! Es una niña, weon. Podrás parecer de 18 años pero tienes más años que dios.
Otra cosa que no me gustó fue la ausencia de escenas entre los personajes principales. O sea siento que por el camino que tuvo la historia, estuvieron bien, pero solo hubo una escena buena de ellos y las demás pues no lo fueron.
En general estuvo bien pero pudo haber estado mejor. No alcanza ni 'The Chosen' ni 'DOD'

To be honest I didn't really feel this one. It's defiantly the worse of the bunch for me. I just couldn't get into it. I did like the idea that they spent a many life times trying to work things out. I liked the flashbacks. I just don't know why I didn't like. I read it a few hours ago and have already forgotten a lot of it. It hasn't put me off reading the rest of the series.

Hannah Snow has the perfect life - she's about to graduate from high school, she already has a college scholarship, and she even knows that she wants to be a paleontologist. But her perfect life starts to collapse when she finds notes that she doesn't remember writing, warning her of a dire event - "Dead Before Seventeen."
Increasingly disturbed by the notes and bad dreams, Hannah visits a psychiatrist. On her very first appointment, a werewolf crashes into the building and tries to attack her, but a mysterious voice in her head helps her dodge each claw swipe. She's saved by the arrival of a second werewolf, who chases off the first.
Knowing that she has to get to the root of what's going on, Hannah and the psychiatrist try hypnosis, and she's plunged into a vision of a past life, where she was Hana, and a strange boy with blood around his mouth appears in her village...
Thierry is one of the oldest vampires in the world, created at the dawn of humanity. He's spent his lifetime searching for his soulmate, trying to find her before her 17th birthday so he can break a cycle of death. But when he finds her this time, she doesn't want his help...
"Soulmate" is my favorite Night World book. Coming 6th in the series, it exemplifies the soulmate principle Smith has used in each previous book, because Hannah and Thierry are the original soulmates. Hannah's past lives are a great plot device, because it allows Smith to give her lots of growth and abilities; and I really enjoy the stories of her past lives. I wish Smith had done more with that, she alludes to some interesting incarnations of Hannah but only fills in a few. Like other Night World heroines, Hannah's no wilting flower and she does take matters into her own hands when she needs to. Also in "Soulmate" Smith starts to introduce a bigger theme if classic theme, saving the world, and it'll be interesting to see where she takes it.
If you read any of the other in the Night World series, this book will also give a good update on what your favorite couples are up to, and what they are trying to do.

I would say that this is probably my favorite book out of the Night World series.
If you know me by now then you know that I am a sucker for romance mixed with paranormal undertones. This one has it in spades and throws in a new concept of reincarnation with a lot of cameos from the characters of past books.
We get introduced to Hannah Snow. Sixteen going on seventeen, pretty and blonde, with a birthmark on her cheek and a normally happy girl. Even in Montana, Hannah has her best friend Catherine who goes by the nickname Chess yet things are now starting to get...weird.
Weird as in frightening nightmares, hearing voices in her head and Hannah finding notes written in her own handwriting in familiar places...but with warnings of danger.
That a man will find her and she will be dead by her seventeenth birthday.
It is so strange that Hannah is seeing a psychiatrist. Her doctor happens to be Paul Winfield, a handsome young man just out of school for this profession, and the things Hannah tells him are interesting. As if her dreams may be about an apocalypse or the fact that she is feels a...supernatural presence following her.
The doorbell rings, Paul goes to answer it and a werewolf breaks through his window to attack Hannah. A voice in her head tells Hannah to use the picture frame in the shambles of Paul's bookshelf to stab it in the eye and pierce the brain...it is made out of pure silver
Hannah can't bring herself to kill it and then...another werewolf busts in. A smaller gray female wolf fights with the larger black male and Hannah is stunned to find that it is there to protect her!
The bookshelf blocking the door, Paul is able to get to the window with a shotgun and shoots at the black wolf while Hannah tells him not to kill the gray one. Both wolves then leap out another window and disappear.
We then shift to Las Vegas and the passenger in a sleek white limo, coming back from Hawaii. Only the briefest of mentions in the first book, Secret Vampire, we are now introduced to Thierry Descouedres.
We don't get much in this scene but we learn enough about him. He is rich, jaded, looking for something in particular and is a part of the Night World. A call on his phone comes from a woman named Lupe and she tells Thierry that she has found...her.
A girl named Hannah Snow with the birthmark but that another wolf found Hannah as well...a wolf off to tell another mysterious her...
Back in Montana the next day, Hannah returns to Paul's office and after the commotion of yesterday...he suggests hypnosis to find out just what the heck is going on. Neither one is a fan of this method but once Hannah is relaxed, Paul asks her questions.
Hannah admits that she did write her notes but even though they are to warn her, she is attracted to the man who is destined to kill her. Despite being evil, Hannah is being punished to love him and die by his hand every time she is reborn.
His name for the last few centuries has been Thierry Descouedres and that he isn't human.
Thierry happens to be listening outside, having rushed at the information Lupe gave him, and with the small amount he can see of her...he recognizes Hannah as his soulmate, the only girl he has ever loved in the thousand of years that Thierry has been a vampire.
In the session, Paul has Hannah go back to the very first time she and Thierry met and we are thrown back into the Stone Age basically. In her first life, Hannah is Hana and the members of her tribe find a young man with blood on his mouth after a younger girl is attacked.
They plan to kill him but that night, Hana goes to help him escape after seeing that even through his animalistic eyes and teeth...he is ashamed of attacking the child. He refuses to go and Hana finds that he is in need of more blood and offers herself without words. Getting close enough for their hands to touch, the connection is felt and then Hannah wakes up.
In a hilarious moment it is not only Thierry sort of telling her to come back to the present but a desperate Paul threw a glass of water at Hannah when he couldn't break the hypnosis.
That night, Hannah wanders outside and she and Thierry finally meet face to face. She is overwhelmed at first but then Hannah can see a sadness in Thierry's eyes that brings her closer and when their hands touch, the attraction is too much to deny. Hannah lets Thierry bite her neck but stops at flashes of a black haired woman...and a savage, blood-soaked Thierry tearing out her throat.
Hannah tells Thierry to go away and he does but not before slipping a ring on Hannah's hand that he says will protect her. The woman's voice convinces Hannah that it may be a trick and Hannah is finally able to get it off and the following night, she and the woman meet face to face.
Her name is Maya and she admits to Hannah that she made Thierry into a vampire but sees it as an old shame because she declares that he was unstable in handling the change. It is why he is obsessed with Hannah and Maya has been warning her in all her past lives to stay away from Thierry and not fall in love with him or he will kill her.
If you paid attention to some of the information in Spellbinder, it is not a surprise that Maya isn't here to protect Hannah. She was the first vampire and if she can't have Thierry, Maya will just have to make sure this is the last time that his soulmate...comes back.
I think I spoiled enough and if what I have said about Soulmate is enough to make you intrigued to read it or even any of the other books before it...I must have done something right.
The last half of the book is just as good as the first half too...just saying.

I really enjoyed this book. Hannah has memories of her past life and her soulmate Thierry. She is not sure whether he is back to harm her or not. As the story progresses, we learn the truth about Hannah and Thierry's story.

Ok .Maybe some of you are like 'Why is this chick giving away spoilers?' -or- some of you might be thanking me for them(lol). Either way I'd just like to say I dont like the idea of spoilers.So why do I do them? Because I hate it when I come across an old book I already read and be like 'What was this about again?'
Creepy? Imagine waking up to find a note in your fist.Then finding other notes in your pillow case and drawers.And its all in YOUR handwriting.. warning you of death/danger. But you dont remember writing it. Weird.
Cool fact about Hana.If ur reading this book,you might have a single question pop in ur mind most of the time.And it is 'Where did Hannah's scar come from?' Its actually interesting when reading about that part in the book.She got it when her very first form- Hana died.Thierry killed her on accident.. anyway when she died he stroked her face and didnt realized he had her blood on his fingers until he saw it. Thats the birthmark- a permanent reminder of the first death.

Old Mother: oldest in the clan(shes the clan's shaman),great grandmother of Hana and Ryl and almost everybody,had a face covered w/ wrinkles and a body like a dried stick but her dark eyes were full of wisdom.

This used to be my favourite book in the Night World series, tied for first with Spellbinder. I loved the way that reincarnation was approached, the idea that love could follow people through lifetimes, always calling back to each other and finding each other once again, even when both parties could well be vastly different than their previous incarnation.
Reading this book again now, I’m sad to say, ruined the story for me. It was very hard to keep the shine of happy nostalgia going when I found so many flaws.
As stories go, it was something of a creative one, and I can’t fault Smith for that because the idea and ideals fits so very well with the established mythos of the Night World. The reader also gets to see, in a very close-and-personal way, the fabled first vampire Maya, whom we’ve really only heard about in passing back in Spellbinder, when Thea told the legend of Maya and Hellewise. Maya herself was quite an interesting character, carried through the ages by a singular obsession, one that went so deep and was so engrained in her mind that she herself really couldn’t attach any logic to it. “I have to win,” is all that mattered to her, even when it was clear that she didn’t entirely know what her own idea of winning would even mean. It was interesting to see her be so flawed and unhinged and yet so very calm about it all.
However, the biggest problem I had with this book was exactly what I used to love about it: reincarnation. Not so much the concept, but the way it was carried out. Hannah’s first incarnation was Hana, a Stone Age girl living in some place that I’m fairly sure is geographically and anthropologically impossible. She lives in a place where there are Arctic foxes and wild cattle, part of a tribe consisting of people with quite varied hair and skin tones (though it’s established that they’re all at least Caucasian), they worship Hekate as a dark goddess who also seems crossed with a mother goddess figure, and the tribe is run by a matriarch. Her best friend is somebody who “always has to wear something new to every festival” and is fretting because a man she doesn’t quite like wants to “mate [her]”. Sorry, honey, but when you’re in that era and 16, you’re approaching the end of the average lifespan, and you’ve probably popped out a couple of kids already. You’re not a modern teenage girl in a furry bikini.
This all wouldn’t have been quite so painful (the books all deal with hidden aspects of the world we live in everyday, so I might possibly have been able to suspend my disbelief for a while) if the psychiatrist character who was helping Hannah uncover her past didn’t state quite bluntly that the majority of past-life regressions were always told in ways that made it quite clear that the people who romanticized living in the past actually knew nothing about the past they were talking about. I winced when I read that line, because the character was trashing the sort of people who were doing exactly what the author was doing! That entire situation was ironic and painful enough to have a lot of the gloss stripped from the memories of this book, and I’m sad to report that reading this now that I’m older does not have anywhere near the same appeal that it did when I was a teenager.
As far as its place within the series, this is one of the essential novels. A lot is revealed about Circle Daybreak, far more than the hinting mentions that appeared in other novels of the series. And we get to take an interesting look back at Night World history, looking at the characters of Maya and Thierry. If you’re going to read the series, you really can’t afford to skip over this one. But too much sat wrong with me for it to have a very high rating, in light of all the irony and historical mangling.

Μου αρέσουν όλες οι μικρές ιστορίες της Smith,είναι πάντα φρέσκες και γεμάτες φαντασία,παρόλο που τόσα χρόνια μετά μας φαίνονται λίγο πολύ γνωστές,εύπεπτες και όχι ιδιαίτερα ανεπτυγμένες. Είναι απλά η αθωότητα και τα μικρά μηνύματα που περνάει στα παιδιά μέσα από αυτές και σε κάνει να τις λατρεύεις.
Και αυτό το βιβλίο μεταδίδει πολλά μηνύματα,κατά της βίας και κυρίως της έντιμης μονομαχίας,αλλά και για το πώς πρέπει να πάρουμε τη ζωή μας στα χέρια μας και να μην αφήνουμε να μας παραπλανούν αβίαστα τα λόγια των άλλων.
Το Soulmate είναι ίσως η μόνη ιστορία της σειράς μέχρι τώρα που φαίνεται πιο ολοκληρωμένη. Σταδιακά με την αφήγηση,ανακαλύπτουμε το παρελθόν του Thierry και της Hannah και συμπάσχουμε με τους ήρωες και την τραγικότητά τους.
Από το βιβλίο,λάτρεψα το χιούμορ του ιδιαίτερου ψυχοθεραπευτή Paul,τη γλυκιά Lupe,την ισχυρή προσωπικότητα της Hannah και τη μελαγχολία των ματιών του Thierry (Ναι,απέκτησα καινούριο σύζυγο! Όλοι οι καλοί χωράνε σ αυτή τη μακροσκελή λίστα!!!)
Λάτρεψα ακόμη και τη μοχθηρία-και τα μαλλιά- της Maya(που μου θύμισε κάτι από Katherine) και ομολογώ ότι οι εμφανίσεις της με έκαναν να θέλω να κλείσω τα παράθυρα του σπιτιού μου καλοκαιριάτικα!
Το ότι παρουσιάστηκαν οι ήρωες των προηγούμενων βιβλίων και το ότι μαθαίνουμε για το πρώτο βαμπίρ και πώς δημιουργήθηκε ήταν μια πολύ ευχάριστη έκπληξη γιατί η Smith φαίνεται να καλύπτει σιγά σιγά τις περισσότερες πτυχές αυτού του κόσμου και απαιτεί να γίνεις μέρος του.
Το Soulmate ήταν μια ρομαντική ιστορία που μου έκλεψε και ράγισε την καρδιά. Αυτό που με επηρέασε περισσότερο ήταν η οδύνη του Thierry που ζούσε πλέον στα μάτια του,όσα περνούσε και υποφέρε από πόθο να ξαναβρεί την αγαπημένη του,μετανιώνοντας κάθε λεπτό της αιωνιότητάς του γι' αυτό που είχε κάνει στο παρελθόν,κάτι που δεν περίμενα και μου άρεσε πολύ τ�� ότι έγινε,γιατί για κάποιο λόγο,κάνει τους βρικόλακες πιο ρεαλιστικούς.
Συνεχίζοντας να διαβάζω τα βιβλία της,συμπεραίνω ότι η L.J. Smith ήταν και παραμένει εδώ και χρόνια η έμπνευσή μου και δε θα πάψω να την ευγνωμονώ γιατί εκείνη πρώτη μου έμαθε ότι στον κόσμο,ίσως και να υπάρχει ακόμη λίγη ξεχασμένη μαγεία.

So, I do remember why I didn't remember this book.
It's.... really boring and badly done. The story's crux relies on the fact that the basic points aren't revealed. If the author had told us a bit of information sooner, the entire like mystery aspect would have went "poof" and the tale would have been just its lackluster climax.
For those who don't want to read this book to know what's up in this volume, Hannah is an "old soul" who has been reincarnated since the stone age. In each life she's Thierry's soulmate and in each life, Maya, the original vampire who made Thierry into the first non-lamia vamp, finds Hannah, turns her against Thierry, and then kills her, causing the cycle to perpetuate until the 90s when at last the cycle is broken.
In other words, this whole book happened because Maya is one of those characters who causes problems because she either has to have her way or will make everyone miserable and because Hannah constantly trusted Maya in each life and turned on Thierry, pushing him away and then Maya kills her, starting it all over again. You'd think Thierry would have like... warned Hanna about Maya by now... Or that Maya would have like... considered making Hannah a vampire and staking her long before now.
Anyway this book's plot is just dumb because all the issues have super easy remedies or the plot points themselves are just stupid or not connected to anything.
The notes end up being pretty irrelevant because Hannah just, remembers, and the conflict is just misunderstandings and poor timing. We also aren't ever told why Hannah has to die before she turns 17; like Maya never states a reason for it. There's no magic or prophecy or anything. Maya just... decided it I guess? And then despite like, her best friend not being an old soul, Chess apparently reincarnated and is part of her life again too?? This book just really dropped the ball with this formula. Thierry is like remorseful over what he's done but he's had like many centuries to come to terms with the 1 time he killed Hannah. I did skim a little but it doesn't seem like he killed her any other time. It was always Maya, so like... is he like blaming himself as indirectly responsible or somehow does he feel like Maya making herself look like him to kill Hannah is... like... his fault? I don't KNOW. The plot has a LOT of issues.
The longer I think about it, the worse my rating gets. It went from 3 to 2 to 1 the more I thought about how badly constructed this all was. Honestly pathetic.

I'd rate more as 3.5 stars.
My third Night World book, I've only read book 2 and 5 besides this one at the time of writing this review. This one mentions/features people that were in the previous books- I'm sure I missed some references since I didn't read all the books before this one, but there's briefly Rashel and Quinn from book 5, James and Poppy from book 1, and Ash from book 2. Anyways, this one's setting is in Montana, and follows the girl named Hannah Snow who thinks she's going crazy.
We see Hannah and Thierry's POVs and as you can guess from the title (and if you've read all the previous Night World books), they're soulmates- which seems to be the mysterious recurring thing happening. More info is revealed in this one: more of Circle Daybreak, mentions of an apocalypse through Hannah's premonition, and something big coming, but we've yet to learn what. The whole soulmate business happening between Night Worlders and humans is building up to this big something, or is happening because of it?
Reincarnation is a theme in this one, and Hannah has sessions with her psychologist, Paul, which was kind of funny to read- his inexperience, and his at-times unprofessional behavior due to this inexperience. Hannah's past/unreliability of her memories being gone was interesting, although for some reason I don't really like reincarnation stories, so I wasn't as into this one. There's the whole cycle and trouble with Maya, the story behind why Thierry got turned as the first made vampire, and the lives lost and found between them.
The ending felt right in its resolution, and Thierry and Hannah are meant to be, but I wasn't as into this one- I wanted more action. Although those who like lots of history/background between characters will enjoy Thierry and Hannah's story. The events unfolding as a whole about this series is intriguing, with the looming apocalypse. This story, like the ones before it, read easily with a laid-back feel.

I think this is my favorite along with Spellbinder. It's just so deep, romantic, beautiful..it moves you. I did have Huntress and Daughters of Darkness as my favorite but after reading this one and book 3 I think these are more.
This one I don't really dig Thierry and Hannah that much in the modern time, I guess because tbh I didn't like Thierry that much after learning in the first few chapters that 1) he is really rich and lives a luxe lifestyle and (2) I didn't like the way he spoke to Nilsson when he threatened that he would lose his job if he didn't get to Hannah in time. That REALLY got my back up and put me off him. I liked Hannah though, she was cool and could take care of herself and had interests and strength and a self-reliant core. I really loved Stone Age Thereon though, I know its odd because he's the same character as Theirry, I guess this is because it was before he was rich and there was no talking to someone threatening to sack them if they didn't do something quick enough. And of course the Stone Age Thereon was so lost and hurt and it ached my heart what happened to him. To me the most gorgeous scene in the whole book was when he was with Hana by the river when she let him escape and they realised they were soulmates. That was my favorite. I felt so sorry for him.
Also what I LOVED in this book was that we got to learn the history of the Nightworld and Maya and Hellewise. It was really nice to see that after being introduced in Spellbinder.
This book had the same magical deep soulful romantic beautiful feeling as Spellbinder, but more. I think Theron and Hanna was the strongest bond/most romantic and deep, although other couples are more exciting (Jez Morgead, Ash Mary Lynette are my favorites). They have an older karmic bond and are the original soulmates after all.
I also loved the other previous characters showing up.

Spannendes Fantasy Buch
Dieses Buch vereint eine magische Welt voll von Hexen, Vampiren und Werwölfen mit einer tollen Geschichte, faszinierenden Charakteren und tiefen Gefühlen.
Man wird von Anfang an toll in das Buch eingeführt und lernt die Protagonisten kennen. Dabei fand ich vor allem die Protagonistin wirklich toll und ihr Charakter passt einfach super in das Buch. Mit ihr zusammen lernt man die Nachtwelt kennen und beginnt nach und nach Fragmente ihrer Vergangenheit zu erfahren, die sie mit dieser neuen Welt verbindet. Dabei begegnet sie immer mehr den mystischen Kreaturen und auch anderen für die Geschichte wichtigen Personen und versucht ihre Verbindung zu diesen zu offenbaren. Als Leser hat man dabei die Chance völlig mit ihr mitzufühlen und ihre Gedanken und Empfindungen nachzuspüren.
Ob von ihr oder von den anderen Protagonisten, gerade diese Gefühle, diese Emotionen die tiefgreifend sind und weit über Selbstliebe hinausgehen und bis hin zur Aufopferung für andere Personen reichen haben dieses Buch für mich zu etwas besonderem gemacht.
Wer die Night- World- Reihe bereits kennt, Der weiß auch schon längst von dem umwerfenden und unfassbar fesselnden Schreibstil der Autorin, der auch in diesem Buch auf jeden Fall wieder vorliegt und den Leser begeistert.

Hannah sitzt beim Pyschologen weil sie Zettel schreibt, nur dass sie sich nicht daran erinnen kann sie geschrieben zu haben und auf denen Sachen wie 'Tod vor 17' stehen. Als es an der Tür klingelt verlässt der Psychater den Raum und in dem Moment gibt es eine Explosion. Danach geht es rasant weiter, denn plötzlich stehen Wölfe im Zimmer. Als wieder Ruhe einkehrt lässt Hannah sich hypnotisieren, doch mit dem Ergebnis hätte keiner gerechnet.
Dieses Buch fand ich von Anfang an etwas komisch. Ich kann nicht sagen wie ich das Buch fand ohne zu spoilern. Als Hanna hypnotisiert wurde und sie sich in der Steinzeit wiederfand, dachte ich, dass das Buch ziemlich komisch ist. Doch später in der Geschichte hab ich dann besser verstanden wieso das wichtig war. Wie auch bei den beiden andern Büchern, fand ich dass das Ende nochmal ein Highlight war. So, this series is definitely overly repetitive. Each book is essentially the same plot with maybe a twist on what creatures are involved. Still, what makes them fun is what the new spin will be. I think there's a lot of interesting backstory being developed across the series, and I appreciate that there may be more thought put into the legends behind the Night World than the actual current day characters. That said, I liked the main characters in this story, and thought that their development made the repetitiveness of the story less annoying. Also, I loved that we finally get some follow through on all of the other stories, and that this feels like the step towards a bigger, overarching storyline.

Hannah Snow is a senior in high school who shows up at a psychologist's office in the wilds of Montana before her 17th birthday. It seems that she has been finding notes written to her about what is going to happen in the near future. But, it seems that the author of these notes are her.
How and why is she communicating with herself without knowing at the time? Well, that is part of the story. Another part involves Vampires (of two types Lamia who are born vampires and made vampires who are turned from human to vampire) and the werewolves and witches with which they compose the Night Counsel.
Hannah has to find out her position in this new world that she didn't know as well as find her way into some of place for herself with loved ones.
Very well written and enjoyable book.

Read this on a Kindle, so I didn't realize how short it was....
There were a lot of promising aspects that I was excited for in this book, but it was either not addressed at all or glossed over. For example, there was no exploration of Chess's and Hannah's friendship even though Hannah kept talking about what a BFF she was.
Also, not enough romance scenes....At the very least, the 2 mains should have had a decent convo and some cuddly cuddly....but nope the book just ended after the problem was resolved.
Overall, the main issue I had was that it was wayyyyyyy tooooooooo short. If things were fleshed out I would have thought this book was awesome. I still enjoyed it though, so a 3 it is.

I liked Soulmate a lot as a teenager, but as an adult I actually liked it even more. I think it might be because it feels so much less teenage romance than the others in the series? Probably because neither Hannah or Thierry are actually teenagers, being both technically about 3000 years old.
Also, Maya is a FANTASTIC villain. Love that for her.
(As a side note: it kind of amuses me a lot that Ash is so "I must redeem myself! For my soulmate!" When... Quinn is literally right there with Rashel, having a whale of a time. I love Ash, but Quinn is a bit smarter. Has figured out that he can have snogging (though lbr, Quinn/Rashel are a soulmate couple who are totally banging) and redemption at the same time!)
Also, Maya is a FANTASTIC villain. Love that for her.

This was the first book that made me feel helplessness. And I HATE Maya with a passion.
The book was surprisingly good, I thought I wouldn't like it much but I did. I have been a little taken by the reincarnation trope, and I'm trying to find books or series on it. I have found a few and hopefully I'll read them soon.
The romance didn't make sense. Like they knew each other for a day and then he killed her. Then, they met in Egypt, where she was a priestess and spent some time together. But, I don't know exactly how much time before Maya killed her. So I think the love bloomed mostly in the Egypt life. But still extremely confusing. I'll try finding another standalone to give me that angsty feel.

Yet another favorite! I feel like I say that about every one of these books with the exception of a few… It was like the fourth book, Dark Angel, in the sense that they had more depth. There was more going on with the story line and characters; it was a tad more complicated than say the first three books in the series.
Thierry was mysterious, and I’m not going to lie, I fell for him a bit. He’s one of my favorite vampires and I hope to see more of him in the next books. And I just have to say that Maya was a great antagonist? She was badass, but also soft.
The Night World just keeps getting better…
