An average kid with an above average talent for predicting baseball pitches tries to help his favorite player out of a slump in this entertaining novel from bestselling authors Tim Green and Derek Jeter.

Jalen DeLuca loves baseball. Unfortunately his dad can’t afford to keep him on the travel team. His dad runs a diner and makes enough to cover the bills, but there isn’t enough to cover any extras. So Jalen decides to take matters into his own hands and he sneaks into the home of the New York Yankee’s star second baseman, James Yager, and steals a couple of balls from his personal batting cage. He knows that if he can sell them, he’ll be able to keep himself on the team.

But like the best-laid plans—or in this case the worst!—Jalen’s scheme goes wrong when Yager catches him. But Jalen has a secret: his baseball genius. He can analyze and predict almost exactly what a pitcher is going to do with his next pitch. He can’t quite explain how he knows, he just knows. And after proving to Yager that he really can do this, using a televised game and predicting pitch after pitch with perfect accuracy, the two agree to a deal. Jalen will help Yager out of his batting slump and Yager won’t press charges.

However, when he begins to suspect that the team’s general manager has his own agenda, Jalen’s going to need his friends and his unusual baseball talent to save not only Yager’s career, but his own good name.

Do you like baseball? I do and I loved reading the Baseball Genius by Tim Green and Derek Jeter. A famous baseball player James “JY” Yager needs help. He gets help from an unlikely 12 year old boy named Jalen DeLuca.
The author does a great job using the literary element of conflict. The conflict was exciting to follow and when problems popped up it was fun to follow the characters. An example is when Jalen gets caught stealing ball from JY’s backyard. Another conflict is when JY has to show his boss that he is not too old to play. JY uses Jalen’s magic ability to see what the pitch will be and tell the batter, JY. JY batting average goes way up. Jalen who was stealing the balls so he could play on his traveling team. The different conflict kept these two characters connected in the book. The books kept me on my toes.
Another element the author does a good job with is resolution. I like a good ending just like the next person. One example is when Jalen helped JY hit 1.000 in all of 3 games so that he could keep playing. That is really nice batting average. In another example JY did a little favor for Jalen and his dad by tweeting about their diner so people would go and eat there. This was helpful because it helped his dad business that was in trouble. He also paid for Jalen’s tournament team fees so Jalen could play. Jalen can now play on his team without worrying if he will have enough money to play. It is nice to read about someone getting another chance at their dreams.
If you like play baseball, watch baseball or eating baseball snacks you will love this book. Baseball Genius is a great book. It reads quickly but you are kept guessing what will happen next. I love playing baseball and know alot about the game. It was fun to read about a sport I know alot about and enjoy playing. Play Ball!

The book that I am reading is Baseball Genius. The author of this book is Tim Green and with Derek Jeter. This book is read for 4-8th graders. This book is about a kid named Jalen and he likes baseball he wants to join a baseball league. But Jalen does not have enough money to pay for the team. But baseball superstar (James Yager) is having a rough reason and Jalen helps him with his ability to guess pitches.

Jalen is a young boy who likes baseball. But he lives with his dad and he works at a diner. He works all day and night and works by himself. He has a friend named Cat. She lives by a baseball superstar names James Yager. Jalen helps him by predicting the pitches from pro players. So what I learned from this book that, anyone can do anything if they work hard enough to that goal.

I loved this book. It was a easy read and it was about sports. I think that this book would be for people who enjoy baseball for like a hard story behind things. This story was sometimes predictable but most of the times the events caught me by surprise. I think my favorite part was when he was running away from the person in James Yager’s yard and he got caught and his friend Cats busted him out of the shed. This is my review on the Baseball Genius.

The book Baseball Genius by Tim Green is about a kid, Jalen DeLuca, who loves baseball. Jalen wants nothing more than to play on the the summer travel team, the Rockets. Unfortunately his dad is not able to pay for the registration fees required by the team. His best friend, Cat, is neighbors with the Yankees star second baseman, James Yager. Jalen decides to sneak into Yager's backyard and steal some of his baseballs from the batting cage which he can then use to sell and pay for the registration fees. Jalen gets caught in the act and has to make a deal with Yager to use Jalen's talent of predicting pitches to help Yager out of his slump in exchange for not turning him in. I really liked this book because I love baseball and it's a fairly easy and relaxing read. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend who is into sports books.

This book was fantastic. Jalen the main character in the book was my favorite. He made the book amazing. He had to face a ton of problems but he would always over come it. I also enjoyed this book because it had to do with sports. And i like to play baseball in my free time. And Jalen had such a kind heart because he always wanted to see the best for his dad, and was always worrying about him. He made bad decisions but he also had a good heart.

Tim Green does an outstanding job at writing books. He has many different genres of books including sports fiction, mystery, and more. I think he is a great writer because he has a lot of dialogue and his books are just really enjoyable to read. Tim Green is so good at making a fiction story sound realistic. Jalen is a really good baseball player who wants to go to a baseball tournament but he has to pay a fee to play. So he checks if he has enough money. But he doesn't, so he wanted to ask his dad for money but his dad works really hard to own his restaurant and he didn't want to ask his dad for his hard earned money. So he thinks of an idea of stealing some baseballs from a professional baseball player that lives next door to him. So he goes at night time and gets in and gets the balls but as he's walking out he gets caught. Then the baseball player named James Yager (JY) gets him and locks him in his shed until he figures out a plan for what to do. But all of a sudden Jalen hears the door of the shed start to open and finds out it was his friend Cat. So they both start running as fast as they can away from the house. Jalen gets the balls safely and gets away. Then JY figures out that it was his neighbor and he goes to have a talk with the kid. Then JY decides he was going to make him give the balls back or he's gonna call the cops. But Jalen didn't want to because he needed the money so he gave JY a deal because his batting average was going down and if he didnt get it up he was gonna get cut from the team. So Jalen said he would help him get it up because he can predict pitches. So Jalen was gonna try to predict the pitch and tell JY before he got up to the plate. They try it and it works for the next two games he goes 4 for 4 in both. Then it's the last game and if he goes 4 for 4 again he won't be cut from the team. So the first two times he gets up to bat he gets on base both times. But then two security guards came to grab Jalen and started walking with him towards an office because he stole dirt from the yankees stadium. Then one of his friends came and made a big scene so that Jalen could run. Then Jalen gets away and hides in random seats in the stands. And he Tells JY the pitches and he blasts one out to left field. No one could believe it. So he got his spot back on the team.
In the book Baseball Genius the author hooks the reader many different times throughout the book. One of his main ways to hook/persuade the reader to keep on reading is he adds a lot of suspense and cliff hangers. For example he ends a chapter with Jalen stuck inside of an office with police outside guarding him.The author also uses dialogue and real settings throughout the book. For example the author talked about the yankee stadium a lot, he also has the characters talk a lot during the games.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed the book. It had some really good parts and some bad parts, but overall I thought the book was very interesting, suspenseful, and entertaining. The only thing that I didn't like about the book was at the end of the book because they left the reader on a cliffhanger. But just before the end of the book it was really unpredictable. But the ending of the book was still pretty good if i'm being honest. My favorite part about the book was when Jalen hid from the security guards inside of a food cart. There was an old, honest, and wise man who helped him get away. The wise man also told Jalen some really good advice that helped Jalen a lot. I connected with many different parts of the book but one of the main connections for me was about the wise man, he reminded me of my brother Austin. He gives me really good advice and helps me do many different things. For example he helped/told me everything I needed to know about working out, following your dreams, about women, and many different things.People who like sports fiction would really get sucked and hooked into this book the first minute they start reading it. I strongly recommend this book for good readers around the age 11-14 years old.

The book that I just got done reading was Baseball Genius by Tim Green. The lexile level is 750L. Jalen Deluca wants to play baseball this summer. He is a baseball genius because he can tell what pitches the pitcher is gonna throw before they even throw it. When someone who is in big trouble by the Yankee's Jalen helps him out to make him go four for four, so he can still play for the Yankee's. Which Jalen did.

Jalen loved to watch and play baseball. His dad owns a diner. His mom ran away so Jalen never really knew what and who his mom was. Jalen loves to play baseball. He has two bestfriends Daniel and Cat. They do a lot of stuff together. School got out and Jalen wanted to play summer league baseball. But he didn't have the money for it. So there was a famous baseball player that lived near his bestfriend Cat. He has his own batting cage in his backyard. For every ball he hits he signs it and sells them to donate money to charity. Jalen had this devious plan to go steal some and he did so. He sold them but didn't get enough money to join the team. So when this baseball player James Yager found out who stole them. He was going to turn him in but learned why Jalen stole them. So he decided to help him. He gave him the rest of them money for it. Later in the story Jalen tells James that he can read pitches before the pitcher even throws them. So James is in trouble with the Yankees manager so he thought he would have Jalen help him out so he could stay on the Yankees. Jalen helped him out to do so. But later in the story Jalen's dads diner had a kitchen fire and he didn't have the money to repair it but James thought he would help out and pay to fix it. So he did and Jalen's dad was back in business. On the final game where Jalen was helping out James he got in trouble with the security and was help captive until the game was over but he had Cats phone and facetimed her so he could still help James win the game to stay with the Yankees and so he did that. The Yankees won and Jalen could be free now.

I loved the book but it was a bit of a longer book to read and took more time but it was so good that I didn't even realize it. The book at some points you might get lost but you won't be completly lost. The book was a little bit of a harder level but not to hard to read. Well believing that someone could read a pitch before the pitcher even threw the ball isn't very believable. The ending made complete sense to me because I could just understand it by reading the whole book. My favorite part was when Jalen made James win the last game that Jalen needed to be there. I didn't really make connections throughout the whole book. Tim Green is a really good author. He does write longer books but they are very enjoyable. People who like baseball would like this book. Like I said before it is a bit longer though.

My book is named Baseball Genius by Tim Green and Derek Jete and the elixir of this book is 188190.This book is about a very intelligent kid that can predict pitches and he helps his favorite baseball player.

This books plot is mainly about Jalen Daluca our main character that has moved into upstate New York and has a natural talent on predicting pitches and naturally is on a baseball team, not for long unfortunately that his dad cant keep him on the team cause that he is not making enough money at the diner that his dad owens and that he works so this can lead to him being kicked off. His only option is to steal specific baseballs that are used for charity but are worth alot because not only are they signed by a baseball player there signed by Jalen's favorite baseball player James Yager making them more valuable to him. After his shift is over he grabs two of his friends the plan goes well jalen has the dogs distracted he has the ball but right as he is about to escape the dogs trap him inside leaving the owner who happens to be James he does escape though but it's too late since he had already seen his face this lead to James about to press charges. This has Jalen to go back and make a deal with James that he would help out with his batting slump if he would not press chargers. James agrees he is also told if he doesn't do better his job is in jeopardy and will be lost. This leads to the building of a relationship that goes throughout the book to a non trusting and unreliable relationship to a strong healthy one. Till the end where James is 0-2 and is told a change up which is hit over the fence winning and Jalen leaving the stadium with confidence and a smirk knowing that he would be fine and that he would stay in baseball and after all that he is a baseball genius.

This book was very interesting but fun to read and I would recommend it to all kids to introduce to baseball but also show an important lesson that one needing a little help to get back on your feet isnt bad and you have to work hard for the things you want. This book was simple and easy to understand I generally liked it there was some pretty big turns so it isn't predictable and very fun, I enjoyed the ending the way it was wrote that Jalen left knowing he was a baseball genius the fact that you can imagine it with a smirk on his face and the confidence makes it enjoyable and fun why I also think kids would enjoy this book and maybe even get them to join baseball.

"Jalen knew you had to be at the right place at the right time, in sports and in life, too."

Jalen needs $900 in order to play on the AAU summer baseball team, the Rockets. If he doesn't play for this team on the bigger field, he's sure he'll fall too far behind in his skills to make it to the majors one day. Unfortunately, that kind of money is difficult for his father to make. His father, the owner of the Silver Liner Diner, works hard and is a wonderful cook, but business isn't great.

Jalen's favorite Yankee, James "JY" Yager, has a foundation for exactly this kind of situation. The trouble is, Jalen's never gotten any response but form letters and answering machines. So, his friend Cat comes up with an idea. JY lives next door to her. If Jalen could get some baseballs from JY's batting cage, he could sell them and quickly make the money he needs. Unfortunately, Jalen gets caught in the act and only quick-thinking Cat gets him out before the cops arrive. Now what?

But just a few days later, Jalen finds himself face to face with JY across the dinner table at Cat's house. Not the kind of birthday surprise that Cat had expected and now Jalen is caught again. In fact, JY volunteers to give Jalen a ride home so he can have a talk with his father. But in the car, JY finds out he's about to be replaced on the infield by a rookie. And only if he can bat 1000 in the next three home games will the GM consider resigning JY's contract. That's when Jalen offers to help. Because of his gift to read what pitch is coming (about 95% of the time), Jalen can be of great help to JY.

Throw into the mix a strict coach for the Rockets, whose son Chris is not only a great pitcher but the bane of Jalen's existence. There's also best friend, Daniel, comic relief and certain to say and do the most outrageous things. And, a cameo by Derek Jeter, just for good measure. This makes for one wild and crazy week of baseball.

Fans of Tim Green will love this one. There's a lot of action and some pretty funny situations.

Did you ever want to follow your dream but challenges come before you? That’s what happens to Jalen in the book Baseball Genius by Tim Green and Derek Jeter. This book is realistic fiction because it is not a true story but there is a possibility of it happening in real life.

In the book Jalen is the main character. He is a baseball nerd who lives in New York. Jalen doesn't have enough money to play on the travel team, the Rockets. His friend Cat has just moved into a new house and her new neighbor is James Yeager (major leaguer). Jalen and Cat plan to break into Yeager’s house and steal his baseballs to get money. During the break in, Jalen gets caught, he escapes, but is identified by Yeager. Later in the book, Yeager and Jalen met at a party. Yeager notices Jalen was the one who stole his baseballs, and this leads to an interesting story on how they build a relationship.

The theme of the book is when you work hard you get what you want. Jalen works hard and has some struggles in the book but persevered through them to play baseball. The conflicts of the book are Jalen being poor and Yeager being in jeopardy of losing his job. Jalen being poor is character vs society because Jalen’s lack of money makes it harder for him to reach his dream. Yeager in jeopardy of losing his job is character vs character because his boss told him he has to do better or he will get fired.

I thought the book was very well written and I loved the story concept. I would say if you don't play baseball or don't know the game of baseball it might not be as entertaining for you as it was for me. There were some jokes in the book about baseball that were very funny that you might not get if you don't play baseball. I think it was very interesting book and it was an awesome fast paced action packed book.

I would recommend this book to any person who is looking for a good book to read and especially to people who play baseball. Will Yeager keep his job, and will Jalen be able to follow his dream? Find out by reading the book, Baseball Genius.

The former Atlanta Falcons’ Tim Green partnered with New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter to write “Baseball Genius” a book about perseverance and friendship in the world of Major League Baseball.“Baseball Genius” is the story of Jalen DeLuca, an underprivileged kid with an usual talent – he can analyze and predict every pitch that is about to be thrown by a pitcher. Jalen loves baseball, but his single dad cannot afford to pay for his travel team. His father runs Silver Liner Diner and barely makes enough to cover their living costs. Jalen has to think of the way to find money. He knows that Yankee’s star second baseman, James Yager has a batting cage on his grounds, so Jalen decides to steal a bag of autographed baseballs in hopes to sell them and pay for the team. When he’s caught, he has to plea with Yager not to tell his father about his act. Since Yager’s batting average is down and he might need to leave the team, Jalen reveals his hidden talent. Jalen can help Yager to increase his batting average if Yager won’t press charges.Things become complicated when Yager’s team’s General Manager tries to go ahead with his own plan of getting rid of Yager. He requires Yager to go 4 for 4 ( get a hit in each of his 4 battings) in order to stay on the team. At the same time, he fabricates a case to remove Jalen from the stadium. Without Jalen’s help, Yager cannot do this. One of the themes of this book is good conquering evil. Friendship and loyalty can overcome evil intentions. My favorite part of this book is when Jalen and two of his friends, including a girl named Cat, push together to find the way for Jalen to watch the game and send signs to Yager through his friends. This is the best example how perseverance and friendship allow Yager to hit the winning single and defeat the evil in this book. This book is packed with action. It has short chapters and lots of dialogue. I recommend it to anyone who loves action and baseball. If you liked this book, you will love the sequel “Double Play”.

I read Baseball Genius by Tim Green. It is about a boy named Jalen DeLuca. Jalen's dad owns the Silver Liner Diner that is about to close because it doesn’t get enough customers. Jalen wants to play summer baseball on the Rockets team but doesn’t have the nine-hundred ninety dollars that is needed to play. He decides to get the money by stealing baseballs from a famous second baseman on the Yankees team, James Yager, who is about to lose his contract. During the time after, Jalen discovers he can help Yager using his baseball genius, he can tell which pitch is coming. He helps Yager and gets him to post about his dad's diner. The diner is saved and Yager gets a new contract all because of Jalen DeLuca

I feel that Tim Green is really good at describing what is going on in the book, by telling what the atmosphere is like and what they are doing. It is like you are in the book. “Beside the station stood a fast-food place, the lights on its big yellow-and-blue-and-purple sign extinguished for the night”. I also like that he says what the characters look like, “The only thing longer than coach Winkman’s mustache was his hair. He wore a faded SAVE THE PLANET T-shirt, jeans, and Birkenstocks”. Tim also leaves you cliffhangers after ever chapter so you always want to keep reading. “Yager saw him and stepped into the box. Jalen clenched his teeth”.

I really liked this book because it is based around sports and I play sports. I recommend this book to people who like sports so that they can understand it. I think this book can be read by people from 4th-8th grade. The only thing that I would say is bad about this book is that sometimes you don’t know what is going on because it is Jalen's thoughts. I think that the ending was my favorite part because everything happened to work out when everything was going bad. It kinda left off in the middle almost because the other half is in the second book.

Baseball Genius

The book is named Baseball Genius and is written by Tim Green. The book Baseball Genius is about a twelve year old boy name Jalen Deluca and he is good at baseball but he couldn't afford to get in to the baseball league that he wanted to. Jalen decided to steal James Yager's baseballs from his batting cage so he can sell them to make enough money for the team but he gets caught and then he helps James by telling him the pitches when he is at bat. Unfortunately one of his team members named chris sold him out the the general manager about stealing dirt from the field. Then at the last game to help Yagers career he got caught by security. Yager hits one ball without the help but Jalen calls his friend Cat when he is locked up so she can tell the pitches to Yager for him.
Tim Green did a good job with this book because the book impacts the reader's not to steal because if they did they would end up like Jalen did. It also impacts the reader's that sneaking in to people's yards like Jalen did to get the baseballs isn't a good thing to do because if you got caught you could get in big trouble not only with the person that owns the place but with the cops. With Jalen's dad's diner caught on fire it showed that life could take a turn for the worst by being overwhelmed and not doing proper safety.
If you are a fan of baseball or even just the yankees this would be a good book to read. This is one book in a series but even though it is only one of the series it is still a very good book. It is a very good book about baseball so if you are a fan of baseball you should definitely read this book and the rest of the series. This book wasn't hard but there were some spots that were hard to figure out what happened. It is not a predictable book because of all the changes that happen throughout the book and over the course of the series. The author did a good job about leaving the end of the book as a cliffhanger which makes you want to read more and more of the book.

Today I’m excited to talk about the book Baseball Genius by Tim Green and Derek Jeter. I recently read this book and I just couldn't put it down.

Imagine you could predict the future. Well, Jalen Deluca can basically do that….. With baseball. He gets himself in a pickle when a professional baseball player's career is in jeopardy how will he get himself out of the pickle? Jalen Deluca is an average kid who loves baseball and hopes to save his dad's diner by predicting baseball pitches. His mom was American and abandoned him and his dad. His dad is Mexican. He wants money to try out for the travel team so he steals baseballs but famous baseball player James Yager catches him and threatens to call the police. Jalen wants to play for a travel team but as the story develops what Jalen really wants is his dad’s dinner to be saved so they can spend more time together he also needs to save James Yagers baseball career by predicting pitches so Yager can stay with the Yankees. But It is not so easy he has to go through the general manager Foxx who wants Yager off the team. Jalen has to signal what the pitch is going to be so that Yager bats 1.000 in 3 games. They get so close but Foxx catches them. As things unravel Jalen realizes that trust is the most important thing because Jalen had to trust Yager because Yager could’ve sued him and sent him to the police. Yager had to trust Jalen to know he was going to do the right thing. So will Yager bat 1.000 and stay on the Yankees and will Jalen not get caught by Foxx and will Jalen save his father's diner.

This is such a great book it keeps you turning the pages. It has taught me so many important things. It made me appreciate trusting other people when it can be hard. I recommend this book to all people and ages. It is so good.

Baseball Genius
Jalen Duluca is a kid who loves baseball and he has a weird ability to predict the next pitch a pitcher is going to throw. Jalen’s dad owns silver diner that is not doing to well and Jalen wants to get on a baseball team but they can’t afford it. So he is going to try and steal from his favorite baseball player James Yager but gets caught and his friends Cat and Daniel come to save him. A few days later Cat invited jalen and Daniel to her birthday party and said her mom had a big surprise for them. When they got there the surprise was James Yager, after the party James asked to take Jalen home and that is when he told him about his special talent. James didn't believe him at first but he showed him and then came his first game. Jalen was so nervous and when James was close to being up to bat Jalen ran but then got calmed down and he batted a perfect game. After the game the silver liner was on fire they got it under control and then 3 days later it got redon and then James hit 3 more perfect games and his career was saved.

In the book tim green and Derek jeter did a good job because they made it feel like it was suspense and sometimes it was very seirios. They also made it that some of the stuff might actually happen to you. So it put a impact on you and the way were you kind of got scared for jalen and sometimes you were excited for him. It also made you want to keep reading.

I think you should read baseball genius because it is a series and the authors make you want to keep reading. It also is very interesting on how they made the book because he seems to have a new problem all the time. They also make you want to keep reading so if you have to finish a book it is a easy to read book and a good book.

Baseball Genius by Tim Green
Tim Green was an NFL first-round draft pick and a star defensive player for eight years with the Atlanta Falcons. He is New York Times bestselling author of dozens of books for adults and kids.
Baseball Genius is about a kid named Jalen who can guess the pitches before they were even threw. Jalen gets tickets to go to New York Yankees game.A Yankees player named James Yager gives tickets to Jalen and his friend. Jalen helps the Yankees win the game by telling what the pitches are and Jalen was in very big trouble for doing that and police went and got him and brought him to the general manager.

Jalen got bullied at school and out of school because his looks.A kid named Chris on Jalen’s baseball team tried to always through the baseball at his head when they were playing against each other at practice. He had to make sandwiches for the baseball team to play baseball with the team. For Jalen’s birthday. Jalen and his dad went to a Yankees baseball game that his dad bought tickets for Jalen’s birthday. Jalen had never really had people sit by him at lunch. So a girl named Cat was being nice to him. Jalen and her began really good friends and helped him a lot.

I liked this book a lot.It talks about bullying that happened in his life. The book talks about how a friend helped a kid out that really wanted to play baseball for the school team and was not doing that well in school. If you see bullying don’t just stand there and watch bullying happen, things could get way worse.Do something about the bullying and stick up for the kid that is getting bullied. It’s a really fun book to read and there is a series.

I read this book because it was mentioned on a baseball podcast. The premise matched one of their recurring hypotheticals: what would happen if a player could predict every pitch?

Of course, this book is written for middle schoolers. As such, it's impossible for me to rate it according to how much it appeals to me; I am quite far removed from the target demographic. The best I can do, then, is evaluate whether I would want to have my hypothetical offspring read this. The answer? Probably not.

The pacing is fine. The characters are boilerplate and, ultimately, harmless. There are some themes, though, that I would not want my kids to internalize.

The main character, Jalen, is a math prodigy. Despite that, he refuses to develop his gift, saying that he doesn't want to waste time on something stuffy like math when he could play baseball. While I understand the desire to appeal to a kid's anti-school instincts, who needs this messaging? Time and again, the book reiterates the theme that the only really worthwhile goal is being a professional athlete.

It also disparages anyone who tries to take an analytical, rather than instinctual, approach to sports. This continues the "no nerds allowed" theme. But, like, you're reading a book. Isn't that kind of nerdy in itself? Are we overcompensating a bit?

This, combined with the unfortunate "wisened, old black man teaches MC a valuable lesson" and "all Italians talk like Mario" tropes, make the book something I'd have trouble recommending to young readers.

I decided to read the book Baseball Genius because I am a huge fan of baseball, and Time Green/Derek Jeter books. In Baseball Genius Jalen Deluca a 14 year old kid loves the game of baseball, but he can not pay his travel team fees. So, he decided to sneak inside the backyard batting cages of the famous New York Yankees all-star James Yager and steal some baseballs, to sell to make money to pay the fees. Jalen does not get caught the first time but the second time he and his friend do get caught by the famous James Yager. Yager was a past all-star who was on the decline of his career and was close to being cut by the yankees. Yager needed some help at the plate and that is exactly what Jalen could help him with.
Jalen was an average baseball player but he had a special talent, a talent that no one else had. He could predict the next pitch that was coming. He could help Yager win a starting spot and stay on the Yankees. Yager can take the help of the kid and not press charges on him, or he can let the kid help save his career and not press any charge on the 14 year old boy. The close friendship created by Yager and Jalen reminds me of all of the great friendships that I have created playing baseball in my own life. This novel continued to keep me on the edge of my seat while I read it I read it. This is a great realistic fiction book that I would recommend to any fans of the great game of baseball

In Baseball Genius, the main character Jalen, a boy from New York City, doesn’t have enough money to play for his travel baseball team so he steals baseballs from the Yankees’ second baseman James Yager (he’s a fictional character). Yager gets a call from the mean Yankees general manager that if he doesn’t go 4-4 in his next four games, he won’t be offered a contract extension. Jalen says he can help by predicting the pitches before the pitcher throws them, which is a big advantage for Yager. Jalen and Yager make a deal that if Jalen predicts pitches for Yager, Yager won’t take Jalen to the police and he will advertise Jalen’s father’s struggling restaurant. This plan works for a couple games but the mean general manager does not like Yager and tries to sabotage this plan. Things get heated from there.

Reading this book makes me realize how lucky I am to have the money to play baseball. Some people in life, like Jalen in this story, don’t have resources to play sports. It makes me appreciate how fortunate I am.

I would recommend this book to anyone. It has an interesting plot and I was never bored by this book for one second. Baseball fans would especially like this book because the that’s the overall theme of the book. However, broader themes like overcoming obstacles makes it relevant to all. I gave this book 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Baseball Genius was written by Tim Green and Derek Jeter, so you know the sports parts are dead-on accurate, exciting, and detailed enough to follow well: it's like listening to a game on the radio! The rest of the story is exciting, too: every one of the very short chapters has a cliff hanger of an ending that will keep even reluctant readers going. The story centers on Jalen DeLuca, the son of a hard-working immigrant father and a mother who's left the family to pursue her dream. Jalen's dad doesn't make enough at his Italian restaurant to support his son's baseball aspirations, so Jalen tries to make money by stealing balls from the home of the Yankee's second baseman. This starts a series of events that leads to Jalen using his uncanny ability to predict pitches to help the Yankee stay on the team. While most middle grade readers will love this book, I can't help but feel uncomfortable with the message that kids can steal and cheat if their circumstances justify it. Green and Jeter wrote this book before the Astros' infamous trashcan banging episode. I wonder how they feel about it now.

Once again Mike Lupica has created a great action-packed novel. Jalen is a baseball player. But when his dad can't afford to pay for him to get on the travel team. Instead, Jalen decides to take matters into his own hands.

Jalen decides that the only way that he can pay for the travel team is with his money. The problem is he doesn't have any money. Jalen thinks that since he doesn't have any money that he won't get on the team. So he decides to steal some signed baseballs from the famous baseball player James Yager who lives next door. But when all goes to worst Jalen gets caught from James. Instead of pressing charges Jalen decides to try to prove that he can predict where and what type of pitch is coming at him. James agrees and agrees to help pay for some of Jalens Baseball team cost.

I think that Baseball Genius would be a good book for anyone who likes sports or likes sportsbooks. Baseball Genius keeps you on your feet and almost every chapter ends with a cliffhanger which makes you want to keep reading the book.

In the book, Baseball Genius, Tim Green talks about a protagonist Jalen and his way to the big field. Jalen has to pay a fee of $994 to play on this baseball team. He met a Major League Baseball player, James Yager, and he was having struggles hitting. Jalen was going to help him and if it worked. James was going to pay for the fee.

What was my favorite part of the book? My favorite part of the story was when the GM of the Yankees found Jalen taking some dirt of the stadiums infield. I liked it because It got tense at that time and I had no clue where the book was going. The funny part about it, he kept the dirt.

I recommend this book because of the topic. I like the topic because the sports in the book. I love to play baseball and I recommend this book to any baseball lovers. This is also a good book for sport lovers. It was a great book with a perfect amount of tense moments.

I give this book a 5 star rating. I gave it this rating because it is a great book. I would love to read the second book, Double Play. The book left off at the stadium. I don’t know if James got a contract

I really liked this book. I feel like I have a good connection with this book because the main character Jalen DeLuca loves baseball and I really love baseball. In the book Jalen is really good at guessing every pitch while watching a baseball game. I have a connection with this because when I am watching a baseball game I try and guess what pitch they are going to throw just like Jalen. I really like how he is trying to help out his favorite MLB player to get out of a slump by helping him bat because he can guess every pitch. I also really liked how his favorite baseball player James Yager is willing to help Jalen if they can help get him out of his slump. Jalen needs help because he went into James Yager's backyard and stole some of his baseballs. James Yager told Jalen that if he helps him get out of the slump then he wouldn't press charges for trespassing. I really liked this book because they are both willing to help each other out and that it is about baseball and Jalen really likes baseball and I felt a connection because I really like baseball too.

Jalen has a very special talent. He can predict the pitches that a pitcher throws during a game with near perfect accuracy.

Jalen wants to play for a travel team but his father can not afford to pay the fees. Jalen’s father, Fabio owns a diner and prepares delicious Italian food. Jalen does not know what happened to his mother - it’s a sore subject for Fabio. Jalen is mixed race- Italian and Black.

Jalen’s wealthy friend lives next door to Yankee’s player James JY Yager. The story begins with Jalen breaking into JY’s backyard to steal baseballs JY hits, signs, sells for scholarship money for kids to help them play on teams. He meets JY and eventually he is asked to attend games and signal the pitch to JY so he can anticipate it and win.

The second part of the deal is that JY will pay Jalen’s travel team fees and tweet about Fabio’s restaurant being JY’s good luck charm.

Each chapter ends in a cliffhanger. It was a good story.

In the book “Baseball Genius” by Tim Green, Jaylin shows James Yeager that he can call the next pitch of a baseball game. Due to this James Yeager can now hopefully continue his career, earlier in the book Foxx the Yankees manager call James Jager to tell him that if he did not go 4 for 4 in the next five games he would be able to play to the end of his contract and no more.

I personally like this book because if is filled with descriptive words, my favorite sport, and action.i feel like any teen could read this book because it isn’t a children’s book, but not an adults book.

I thing that people the age of 11 through 16 could read this book because it has a lot of pages, you need a good vocabulary to be able to read this book, and it involves a higher brain capacity then the other normal books due.

In the book, Baseball Genius written by Tim Green shows how a kid named Jaden can predict pitches in baseball every time a player is hitting. Jaden loves baseball and wants to play for the travel team (Rockets), but he can’t afford to play. He has a plan that he will go to James Yager’s house and steal some baseballs and sell them. He gets caught but he escapes. Jaden ends up meeting Yager again face-to-face after the incident. Jaden says he can help Yager batting by telling him the pitches ahead of time with signals, but if it doesn’t work Yager will turn Jaden in. Does Jaden help or does he get turned in? The reason I rated this book 4 stars was because I like the characters, but there are some parts which were either slow or confusing. I do suggest if you are a baseball or Tim Green fan that you read this book.

This book is alright, it has the essentials for a Tim green book; it has a kid, the kid has determination, enjoys the sport, has a personal problem, the kid having a remarkable talent, that talent being used to make him exceptional, and a good ending. But even with all these things it feels bland and boring to read. it's relatable to have a poor family that has financial issues to the point to keep you in an extracurricular activity. But it's out of the blue for a thirteen year old to be helpful to a MLB player and it especially being a specific one like Derek Jeter. It's like you can taste the sponsorship for this MLB player; it seems like the only reason that they made this book was to make Derek Jeter seem like a great guy to his fans, relatable, understanding, and helpful. Like I said it has the essentials for a Tim Green book but even though those essentials feel bland.
