This is a great series. The Vietnam War if the Americans were rabbits, the Vietnamese were cats, the Chinese panda bears, the Russians were bears, and the French were pigs. The art is cool the stories are interesting and the dialogue is funny. Thank you Ray Baker for exposing me to this series.
I liked this one better than the first volume but I think that’s because we are knowing more about the characters and ahhhhhhh rats and bota have my heart they are so adorable.
Apocalypse Meow: Volume 2 is a continued retelling of the Vietnam War using anthropomorphic animals such as rabbits, cats, monkeys, pigs, etc. Included in the retelling, there are pages that discuss the historical record of how the Vietnam War started and the things that were happening on the US side, the Vietnam (North and South) and even with the Australian side. I think this work was well done, the story itself is one that captivates you as well as the illustrations. Overall, I would recommend this work to others.
However, my one grievance against this volume is that they mix in these historical pages into the pages of the different stories. I would prefer if they were to add those at the end of each chapter or near the end of the book. That way I'm not mentally in a story then get side swept by the other pages. Also, I didn't really understand how the last part of the book was related to the main storyline. I was just confused more than anything.
Here's the hard-hitting sequel to Apocalypse Meow. This is a gritty Vietnam War story which just happens to star cats, rabbits, and other animals. Kobayashi is an incredibly creative artist.
