Monique had been hiding away in the Northern Vermont Mountains for the previous seven years. Hiding from her past, from her pain and mostly from herself.
However, all that was to change the day she came across an adorable wolf pup who appeared to have a profound effect on her.
Little did she know, the pup was the son of Alpha Wolf Carver who feared his son had been kidnapped.
Upon discovering that his pup was safe and being cared for by Monique, Carver realized he had the opportunity to ask the young girl for one final, life changing, favor....
This is a paranormal shifter romance featuring a handsome, muscle-bound Alpha male and a cute, curvy heroine. It is full of surprises, intrigue and steamy scenes. Please read only if you are 18+
I wished I read the reviews before I attempted to read this story. It was one of the most confusing books I've ever read. Not only was the storyline confusing but I hated how Carver jumps in bed with Monique just days after his mate was killed.
The typos could be overlooked but the jarring changes of time, place, and people were confusing. The plot was more erotica than romance and it ends with implications of ménage. While there is lots of action, the minimal world building left me wondering why multiple times.
Loved the fact that Monique was the strong defender and guardian of kirk. Her relationship with kirk is wonderful and mysterious. There are lots of unanswered questions towards the end of the story. The structure becomes confusing at one point in the narrative. That could easily have been prevented by adding under the relevant chapter a time e.g. Two weeks later but a great story. Spoiler alett: why bring the character of Paul in as another romantic partner. I don't see the relevance of it. Their offspring alone would find and secure the pack and the safety of Kirk. If Monique wanted something more than a monogamous relationship, it should have been apparent before. But still a highly entertaining read!!
I picked this up without listening to the sample, and that is to my regret. I did not enjoy the performance when I heard it. The narrator tries and does some things well, but I didn't like it so much that I stopped listening 3/4 of the way through. At the point where I stopped, though, it still wasn't clear why "Carver" would be considered the best name for this book. Name it after Kirk or Monique!
It wasn't a complete loss, because I did like Kirk choosing Monique as his guardian and all that she went through to protect him. So if you don't mind the narrator's voice, you'll probably find a story you enjoy.
What an excellent story this is. I was totally riveted by it and enjoyed it immensely. The howl of a strange pack means one thing, trouble. Carver is enraged by the sight of his dead wife, Sienna, the loss of his son in an avalanche and the betrayal by Brennan, a man he once called a friend. But once he realises his son is alive, Carver has something to fight for. Monique has been living in her cabin alone for the last 6-years, with her thoughts only on survival; her guilt has punished her for years - now she is facing another torment; though unintentional she has killed the Sheriff and there will be consequences. Carver feels Monique’s pain, as he feels his own and they find solace in each other. When Kirk loses his mother he is drawn to Monique; her loss calls to him. Kirk is a special pup; he has Carver and his mother’s gifts, but for that reason others want to control him, but Monique is a very special woman and it is she he has chosen as his guardian and protector. Monique experiences changes too, finding her new found nature a mystery. But Brennan is relentless in his pursuit of Kirk, and Monique feels a deep need to protect him at all costs; he could never have chosen a better person. Kirk is not something to be controlled; his power is not for those who seek it, but those who need it. There are also plenty more twists and turns to the story that makes it a totally exciting and engaging book to read, and one which I would have no hesitation in recommending. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Great concept - poor delivery The story had the potential to be great but got lost along the way.
Started off great then went downhill starting at Chapter 9. Chapter 9 comes out of left field, it's 5 years later and Kirk is making out with a never before mentioned character, then there's another character that we've never heard of attacking them.
Is this an editing problem, chapters missing or chapters in the wrong order? After a second listen it seems as though this chapter (9) is out of place. Chapter 10 should be after Chapter 8 and Chapter 9 should be inserted between Chapters 17 & 18. You would think someone along the way would of caught this error.
The concept of a guardian who can take multiple forms as a protector over Shifters is a great idea.
The story just tried to go to many directions. Monique has been with Carver for 5 years, Kirk calls her Mom, then Bam she's lusting after Paul. So after all they have been through now were going to go the 3 way route. So no, not feeling the story line.
David Quimby did an good job with the narration. Monique's slight accent was also good. Nice voice easy to listen to. Smooth even pace in the narration. Personally I think his voice talents are better suited to the western themed books.
If I had purchased this book I would have returned it.

5.6.2016 - 3* Není to tak, že by tam bylo něco převratného. Vlastně tam byly věci, které knihy zatraceně stahují dolů. - - strašný bordel s časem, postavami, dějovými linkami - překlepy atd Ale nějak mě to chytlo.
It's a mess. First, the title is "Carver" so my expectation was it would be about, well, Carver. The first chapter was about him and it was actually a good start. Then we get Kirk and Monique and I thought it was going to be the twist in the story but it didn't happen that way. A chapter that read more like an epilogue as they were all "settled" followed by a seemingly misplaced chapter and several chapters that just did not make sense or belong and I am left with a headache and wondering what the heck happened, not just to the story, but to Carver as he became a secondary character. It's as if there were two, maybe even three, novellas, that were cobbled together. This is where a good editor would have come in handy. Or, in my case, a couple of good pain relievers.
2.5 Stars This had the potential to be a better book in my opinion but somethings just didn't work for me. I have read an erotic shifter romance before but something about this book just didn't work for me. I just couldn't connect the erotica aspects with the shifter story. It was just too much. If those parts had been removed and the shifter story developed more, I think this would have been a really good book.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was really good. Also the erotic nature of this book just didn't work with this narrator but I think the narrator did a good job with the story he had. 3 stars for narration.
I received this audio book free for an honest review. The author of this book writes a story that grabs you from the beginning and keeps you there until the end. Monique is a very unique and lonely woman hiding from her past. Carver is the Alpha with a pup whose mom has been killed. There is suspense, thrill, romance and magic in this book. I loved the writing and the narrating. I have another book of Ms. Foxxe's waiting in the wings to listen to. This one I purchased. Great author. Worth buying her stuff.
Not that I normally expect much from these types of books but this one was all over the place. It had so much potential to be a very entertaining story but it was badly set out. It was basically two stories mushed into one with a very confusing transition. Not to mention very unrealistic emotions. I don't like how Monique and Paul's situation ended either. So no. Not recommended.
Little off the wall storyline with fragmented characters, that at times I felted incomplete in storytelling. Angela, I've have read other novels of yours and know you could do better. I like the creative idea of a guardian who is chosen by a child super shifter to protect them. An in turns the guardian develop into multiple shifters to protect the child. But, it felt short and was subdued in so many ways.
The book started out with great promise and interesting story line but about half way through I felt like I was listening to another book. It got confusing where the book jumped ahead and the people and places were new. There needed to be a smoother transition to where the story line went after the big conflict was resolved.
This book was ALL over the place. I was so confused. There was random characters that the main characters knew but apparently we didn't need to. I felt it was a mess. I liked it for the first bit but JEEZ, enough is enough it would have been better for me if you had but it off without all these extra moments that felt stupid and random. I really did love the idea but as a whole I felt lost.
Little did she know when she stop to help the wolf pup the trouble that followed with the next stage of her life with the pup would have on her life. Looking forward to seeing how the resort survived.
This could have been so much better. It was pretty disjointed in the middle, which made me think that it was supposed to be a part of the ending. Also, why make her attracted to the other guy? Too many pigs.
Monique was special. Her fight to survive and fight was everything. I still don't understand what Kirks great gift is. Perhaps that would be forth coming in another book.
Enjoyed the book. Different from most shifter novels. The interaction was really good. Staying away from the plot, don't want to give anything away. Main female character was absolutely brilliant.
