A Change of View

Rate this book
When they decided to take a year off and travel the world, Laura and Reymond didn’t know what they were getting themselves into. Two hundred and seventy-five days on the road with their young boys, Jonas and Matthew. Long-term travel can be a bit of a shock to the system, but once they immersed themselves, there was no denying the beauty of the world around them. A Change of View follows the family on their travels through Italy, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, India, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos, with an epilogue that finds the author working through the process of creating fifty pieces of art for an art show after returning home. Outwardly, an odyssey of colour and wonder. An inner journey of discovery. Grab your backpack and a pair of good shoes, and join them, as they search for home in the company of each other. This is the full, text-only (mostly) version of the story. Also available in a full-colour, three-book set. See the author's other books for more information.

Reymond Pagé is an artist from Winnipeg, Manitoba who began writing more substantively during a two hundred and seventy-five day family trip around the world. Blogging for family and friends, it became a minor obsession, writing down the day's events most often on the very day in question. The result is an honest and rewarding account of their experience, written with humour and thoughtfulness that brings the reader directly into the action.

As an artist, Reymond has work in private collections around the world. His work ranges from exquisite pencil drawings to large and colourful abstracts, as well as pastel and oil pieces. Travel opened his eyes to the camera's potential, allowing him to see the photograph as an art form unto itself, rather than just a reference point between the mind and the canvas.

Reymond Page's "A Change of View" was a pleasant read. I would rate this book about a 4.3-4.4. It's well written, but not quite as well as some other travel memoirs that I have read. I do like that the author visited destinations that are not written about as often as others. I have the text-only version, so the other multi-volume version may be more interesting than mine. Overall, it is a pleasant way to pass the time and may even give other travelers ideas for itineraries and/or destinations.
I won my copy of this book from the Goodreads website and I appreciate the opportunity to read and review it. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys travel memoirs.
