Sillagen kakkososassa Navis on kotiutunut tähtienväliseen laivastoon. Hänet on koulutettu taistelijaksi ja hänelle on opetettu yleisgalaktinen kieli. Vaan kovin kurinalainen Navis ei ole. Hän saa imartelevan kutsun, mutta torjuu lähestymisyrityksen. Tästä seuraa hengenvaarallinen ajojahti.

Yksityiskokoelma alkaa mielenkiintoisesti, mutta taittuu sekavaksi takaa-ajoksi, jota höystetään laivaston politiikalla. Epätasaisen oloinen juoni.

Mutta visuaalisesti Buchet tarjoilee karkkia silmille. Värikkään sivut seuraavat toisiaan. Välillä jopa liiankin kanssa. Parhaimmillaan Buchet on kuvatessaan vehreää luontoa.

Wow, that was a hard left turn.

In episode one our heroine Navis was a feral jungle girl who used data storage devices as ammo for her slingshot and admitted to taking days to figure out how to open a door. In episode two she's a highly functioning and valued member of a space-faring society, capable of learning alien languages and piloting random spaceships. This is all explained away in literally three panels of "time has passed and stuff happened, okay?"

Haha. It's ridiculous, but whatever. Who wanted to read ten issues of Girl Tarzan in Space?

Issue two has lots more great art and neat ideas, and I'm excited to watch this universe keep unfolding.

Norma's Spanish First Edition = June 2001 = 1.250 ptas.
Translation = Estudio Fénix

I'm not going to shelve it "masterpiece" but it's at the very top of the list below them- I LOVED it!

I could say A LOT about this tome but I'll stick with just demanding that you read it since I cannot imagine anyone who would not enjoy it.

A convoluted story, which promises intrigue and revelation, but turns out to be insubstantial and inconsequential.

A lot of time (how much we don’t know) has passed since volume 1, and the primitive Navis has completely acclimated to life on Wake. Feels like a cop-out.

The intro sequence with squids and tunnels uses deception to create drama, but is soon revealed to be a routine training session for Navis.

Navis goes to a council meeting and they offer (or coerce her to take) a job as a mercenary for Wake. It will pay substantially, allowing her to maintain her lavish lifestyle. Otherwise, she will be dumped on a passing planet.

This is a promising set-up for episodic adventures, but it’s put on hold. Instead, this volume is centered around a scheming consul Navis meets at the hearing.

Meanwhile a trio of female assassins is hunting Navis’ doctor friend, intent on retrieving a secret microfilm from him.

SPOILER

So you might think some sort of grand conspiracy is afoot, especially when the microfilm reveals an image of Navis. But it’s noting of the sort. The thugs are henchmen for the consul. The consul is a low-life sleeze bag, and his designs on the microfilm and Navis are pure perversion, nothing more.

Buchet comes up with many more excellent designs, including multiple outfits for Navis. Morvan has some interesting concepts, such as a vast chamber of psychic cephalopods who contain all of Wake’s data. A colony overseen by sentient insectoid creatures who only live a few hours.

And there are some decent action sequences.

Just as in volume 1, however, the climax fails to deliver. Navis is again rescued from defeat by an ally at the last second. This time it’s Snivel, her robot assistant for whom she has acquired an illegal combat chip.

A small subplot involves boo boo, the lone Migrunt who can think for himself. Disillusioned by the stupidity of his brethren, he gives up on them and moves in with Navis.

Nice pictures and graphics but the story line is loose, having no tension at all. Just meaningless incidents in space. Main character Navis reacts same violent and angry way to everything that happens.

preso in biblioteca
