This book should be read after Secrets and Lace (Fatal Hearts 1). Chloe thought her life was a fairy tale about to happen. Until her worst nightmare walked back into her life, shattering her dreams. Now he’s holding her captive on a private yacht, intent on punishing her for mistakes she made in the past. His revenge involves torture and humiliation, and he will not stop until there’s nothing left of her. He loves her. He loathes her. He’s an angel. He’s a monster…the devil in disguise. He’s her savior. He’s her deadliest enemy. Can Chloe’s fragile strength save her before he strips her completely of her freedom, reputation, sanity, and life?
Fatal Hearts is a serial that unfolds over three volumes.
**WARNING: This book contains dark themes, including violence of a sexual and physical nature that could trigger emotional distress in readers.**
Dori Lavelle is a mother, wife, and sucker for happy ever afters and mint chocolate. Hand her a great romance novel and a mug of hot chocolate and she'd be one happy woman.

"If i had known my life would come to this, i would have paused more often to live it. Now it was too late, and all i have left were regrets."
The second part of the Fatal Hearts series was intense, emotional, raw and very dark where confidence and things taking for granted stripped completely away. This one is honestly one of the most brutal and dark parts I've ever read, every page i turned it clenched my heart, again you couldn't expect what will happen and emotions were falling all over the place.
Chloe made her choices right or wrong she made them and now she pays the prize for it, He is a Dark creature who sometimes appears as an Angel how she can possibly endure all the torture and the constant "change of heart by his side??" honestly i don't even know this part kept you on cold feet, feeling the same time everything she was feeling...Now about Him well i have mixed feelings because sometimes i understood him and his internal pain making me actually to like him (..maybe a lot "which is weird") and some others i hated him so much for his cruel actions. His situation is really so complicated and there are so many questions to be answered and i hope to get them in the third part. Also in the next part i would love to see his point of view the same time with Chloe's it would be very interesting to read his thoughts/strategy because believe me he is a Unique character and certainly he will be one of the heroes who everyone would have mixed feelings about as i did (i think). Words are overrated in this kind of stories i certainly loved it and i recommend it to everyone but beware the Strong feelings and the Dark vibe this part has.

All sorts of crazy. Extreme torture and Non-Con. Sensitive readers beware.
A thriller packed with a suspense punch, I loved the darkness dipped in crazy wrapped in revenge.
"There’s always something hidden beneath the surface, something dark…something dangerous.”
What a ride. Whew. I did not take a breath until I had devoured the entire book, hours it took me to ride the crazy train. I can't go into much detail in fear of spoilers. But, just know, it's a uphill battle without conclusion in sight. This one ends and well as the first did, so beware. There's a huge shift within Miles... It will leave you shocked, a bit confused, and a whole of astonished. I'm like, he did what? Say WHAT? Miles is out for blood, for revenge, and it's painful to watch, it's horrifying, it's tortuous. All the things I love in my dark books. Just when we think the big escape is happening... Bamn, we are snatched back, kicking and screaming, pulling out our hair. I have this sick feeling in the bottom of stomach, but I can't you why... BECAUSE SPOILERS. The last few chapters give insight into the boy behind the beast. My chest ached but I can't let him off that easy. NoNoNo. His redemption is no where in sight. I think there's more secrets to knock us on our ass, I'm sure book three is going to set fire to my theories. But I pray to the book gods that I'm wrong.
I'm gonna be in the corner scratching my eyes out until the next book is released.
Let me start off by saying that I was a little disappointed in the first book and that wasn't the popular opinion and I was hoping that book 2 would be better and holy shiz Secrets and Tears did not let me down!!!
This book is by no means a romance ..it's a straight up nightmare for Chloe. We find out her secret and what she did to Alvin and why he's taking his revenge..he has her on the yacht of death beating her and raping her. Now I understand why he's doing it but he's doing a little too much..going a little overboard lol!! I feel horrible for teenage Alvin but I wanna hang adult Alvin by the balls!! Chloe I have zero sympathy for her..what she did to Alvin when they were in HS affected not only him but his mother and it's straight up wrong!!! I need the third book ASAP...can't wait to see how this all ends
Secrets and Tears is the second book in the Fatal Heart series and is the continuation to where Secrets and Lies left off and I tell you this book was mindfucked my brain. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone or in another dimension. Trust me this book will make you lose your senses. Secrets and Tears delivered a unique and dark tale that makes you scared or live out your nightmares. I loved this book so much. Yeah, some of the scenes made me cringe or cover my eyes but damn I was sucked in from the first page to the last. I was excited to read this book because when I read Secrets and Lies and it gave me the biggest cliffhanger on earth, I had to read what happens next. What happens next totally left me overwhelmed and just shocked. This is the book that will shock the effing daylights out of you.
The writing both fast paced and just impeccable made me devour this book. Everything just clicked in this book. The writing was not complicated but straightforward showcasing the different dynamics of characters, their vulnerabilities and emotions. My eyes were glued to this book and all I wanted was to find out mote and more. This book is dark and it made love it more because it had all the addictivve dark elements that made me cringe but also like. Yes, I am crazy like that.
Seriously the chatacters were just crazy. I mean Miles/ Alvin felt like he had some kind of stockholm syndrome. It was just creepy and I even got a bit scared. You have to find out what I am talking about when you read this book. Chloe went through the ringer lol but she was strong. I liked her fight and thats what made this book so amazing.
Secrets and Tears definitely is the book to read. Suspenseful, addictive dark elements, awesome characters and an eye catching plot. This book, you will devour in one day trust me.
ARC kindly ptovided by author Dori Lavelle in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Dori Lavelle for this.
Book 2 in the Fatal Heart Series picks up right where book 1 ends and I have to say this book is action packed evilness!!
Chloe will never be able to show Miles how sorry she is for what happened to him so many years ago. What she did to Miles makes everything she is enduring now seem justified until he takes torture to a whole new level.
As Chloe fights to survive she comes to the haunting truth that the daemon she is fighting is also fighting the man she once love and still loves. She knows this situation is not going to end well for her or Miles. There are too many dark truths destroying Miles which will destroy Chloe as well.
Miles doesn't want to hurt Chloe but he doesn't stand a chance against Alvin. Alvin HATES Chloe and there is nothing Miles can do to stop Alvin from ending the woman that took his life away 13 years ago.
Ok!! *Warning* I don't think this one is a dark romance at all. Just dark. Evil, like the male character.
Alvin, is not a a bad guy who turns out to be a good one at the end, no-no. He is just fucked up, and even though I get him at the end of this book, I'm not sure if I would be able to feel more than pity for him. But, then I know the author's ability to change my mind so... will see.
Secrets and Tears is the second book in the Fatal Hearts Series. After the end of the first book, I had some theories about how the author was going to build up the story. I thought I had it all figured out. But NO. Of course not.
There were some moments that were hard to read. Where I asked myself why I was putting myself into this shit. But then, I just couldn't stop reading it. So addictive.
Instead of a big disclosure, this time the author ended the book trying to make me feel something towards the evil. I'm not sure the kind of feeling she was expecting to get but as I said before, pity and a little of understanding are the only things I can offer. For now.
Anyway, if you like to read thrillers without heart and flowers, HA! This series is definitely a must read for you.
“Breathe, Chloe. Breathe. All you have to do is keep breathing. You don’t have to do anything else. The monsters will go away”
I wasn’t a fan of the first book in this series because it missed so much depth, but this book was AMAZING!
I was lucky enough to be a part of Dori’s BETA team, and get an early copy of this book. I read this book straight after Secrets and Lace and I was a little hesitant to get into this one. Most of the times when the first book isn’t that good, the story loses my attention.
But I’m so happy I gave this book a chance!
The last book ended with such a cliffhanger, I didn’t know what to expect but damn it wasn’t this!
Chloe thought her life was a fairy tale about to happen. Until her worst nightmare walked back into her life, shattering her dreams.
“My life was a series of wrongs. Wrong turns, wrong actions, wrong decisions.”
I have no words for all the emotions I felt while reading this book. From shock to anger. From disgust to sympathy. From sadness to joy. Just EVERYTHING.
Dori captured so many emotions and really came to the essence of the story she didn’t quite capture in the first book.
I’m beyond curious to how this series will play out, and I can’t wait for the next book!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Secrets and Lace left me with a lot of questions I wanted answered, and I got a lot of the answers I wanted. Miles has spent a lot of time and many years planning his revenge on Chloe, and now the time to get revenge is here. I was pleasantly surprised at how the story line twists and turns and makes my heart go out to Miles as he is getting his revenge on Chloe. I now need book 3! LOL I am a huge dark romance fan and Secrets and Tears did not disappoint!
holy crap this installment in the fatal hearts series is better then the first. I watched this terrifying revenge plot start in book one and continue in book two. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat and play with you mind. this is a very dark and edgy book I highly recommend this series. Dori Lavelle is an amazingly talented writer who has a vivid imagination. i can't wait for book 3
Okay…..I must say…you have done it again Dori!!! This book captivated me from the prologue! Secrets and Tears is the continuation of the Fatal Hearts series. I highly suggest that if you have not read Secrets and Lace (Fatal Hearts Book 1), that you read that book first.
It had been a while since I read the first book so after I read the prologue (which to me…was so well written…it blew my mind), I went back and reread book one of the series. Then I carried on with this book.
From the prologue, we progress quickly to the meat of the story…We find out more about “the event” that Chloe was involved in when she was in high school. Yikes is all I have to say. Never let it be said that your actions don’t have consequences, no matter how long the consequences take to appear in one’s life.
Alvin is keeping Chloe (or should I say Kelly) captive on the yacht and he subjects her to unspeakable, horrible, nasty things. This Alvin character is creepy with a capital “C”. What is his motivation? Why is he doing this? Will Chloe be able to survive long enough to get rescued? Answers to these questions and more are all revealed in this book and it will surprise you.
I don’t want to get into too much detail about the book as I think it is best appreciated by reading the story yourself. I must say though, I never thought I would get so engrossed in such a dark story. While I truly loved Dori’s lighter series (Moments in Time or To Live Again), I am finding an appreciation for this genre as well.
I am SO anxious and excited with anticipation to read book three. I need to see how this all plays out. If you are a fan of dark tales with intensity off the charts….this book (and series actually), is for you.
*I would like to thank the author for supplying a free copy of this title in exchange for an honest review*
I didn't care for the book had it not been free for KU subscribers I wouldn't bother. This story was taken straight out of the movie I know what you did last summer. Chloe aka Kelly wrote a column for her school paper revealing students secrets. She tricked Alvin who had a serious crush on Kelly for a long time into a date at his house, while she was there she found her dirt and quickly ran with it. She wrote about Alvin's mom being HIV positive regardless of the effects it would have on him or his mom. Alvin's mom committed suicide after reading the paper, leaving him an orphan and he took his rage out on Kelly. He confronted Kelly and her friends on a road one night with an unloaded gun and said he was going to kill her she ran him over with her car. They threw his body in a shallow grave and covered it up, they all left for college the next day. Every part of the story as it unfolded reminded me so much of the movie, the guy even sends her an e-mail saying "I know what you did the night before you left for college" it was so very unoriginal. If you're going to rip off a seriously cheesy horror flick at least make it better. Anyways if you're a KU subscriber check it out for yourself and form your own opinion, my opinion is this is a definite pass.
I didn't think book two could get any better than book one was but OMG Dori proved me wrong! I devoured this one in a matter of hours as I could not put it down! Chloe/Kelly has been running from her past for a long time but as we seen towards the end of book one our past always has a way of coming back to bite us in the ass. As her future seems to come to an end we see that evil comes in many forms and in this case it comes in the form of someone from her past. I did like that we finally get to find out what she was running from and who knew one story written in the high school paper would lead to such devastating results so many years later. You find yourself wondering if she will be able to escape her destiny or if she will meet her maker. There is a twist at the end I did not see coming and it was actually pleasantly surprising as well as unexpected. I wish I could tell you more but I always make sure not to ruin books for others and therefore you will just have to read it to see what an amazing story this is. NOW I HAVE TO HAVE THE NEXT ONE! I cannot wait to see how everything plays out in the end. The story moves at a steady pace and you will find yourself wishing it didn't end.
I am one dark tortured soul to have completely loved every word in this story! Secrets and Tears is dark, grungy, and DELISH! What's sexier than a psycho??!! How about a psycho with split personalities! Yep. Split. Like right down the middle split!
So Miles or Adam depending on the time of day, is out for revenge. Revenge is such a delicious word in the literary world! It guarantees an excellent surplus of drama and mayhem! We discover in this installment that Chloe and Miles go way back. Way way back like high school. Soooooo coincidence they boh change their names, become successful, and end up engaged??!?! Ummmmmmm I think not! Let the games begin.......!!!! How many licks does it take to get to the end of a braided whip? Let's find out......
This installment is much darker than book one. With that being said, of course this book is my favorite! Heed the warnings....this book is graphic and should be considered extremely dark. May contain triggers due to content. DO NOT read the book and afterwards portray yourself as insulted and disgusted because you're offended. The warning is crystal clear! Adults only....
Five deliciously dark stars because like a BOSS Dori hit the nail on the head with this dark beauty! Kudos honey!
I was lucky to be gifted this awesome book for an honest review.
Secrets and Tears is a rollercoaster of a read. My heartbeat kept going up,down and sideways! Chloe's life as she knows it comes to an abrupt halt. The sins of her past come back to seek revenge and so-called justice. Humiliation, torture, rape then eventually her death are her punishment. Chloe's physically and mentally near breaking point from thinking about the mistake she made in her past that have brought her where she is at present. At some points in the book my heart went out to her abuser but most of the time my only thoughts were he is pure evil and totally deranged. I love the ending of the book! Didn't even see that coming! Now I'm counting the days until the next book! If you like/love thrillers, suspense of the dark kind then you are absolutely going to love this series!
I had the pleasure of reading this book when it was unpublished yet. Nonstop fast-paced read from page one to the last one.
Get ready! Get set!
Each chapter leave a reader on one hand totally sated, yet hungry for more from this author. It's raw and very dark. Looking forward to the third book of the series.
“I was terrified to watch him transform from Miles to Alvin with a matter of seconds. His two personas were clearly at war.”
But why 4 stars? Because Alvin doesn't convince me, he is frightened, but not cared enough. He is just crazy, but I'd like getting better in his mind.
“how did it look inside his mind? How dark was it in there? What kinds of plans did he have left for me? How deep was Miles buried?”
I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review.
Intense, gripping, thrilling, dark. Dori Lavelle has done it again, was hooked from start to finish with this book.
Chloe has married the love of her life but now that love has turned into someone dark and sinister, all Chloe can hope for is to survive until someone rescues her, after a failed attempt she is now back in his clutches and every chance she gets she fights but Miles is hiding something dark and that is he is the nightmare from her past and he is hell-bent on making her pay for what she and her friends did but he is going to make Chloe suffer more as she done the most damage. Chloe is using all her strength to survive but how much of a beating can one woman take, and when she finds that one lifeline to get help she uses and help comes in the form of someone she thought hated her.
ARC reader review I now know why the **warning that the book was not intended for readers under the age of 18 due to its graphic content** is included. Secrets & Tears is the second book in the Fatal Hearts Series and my oh my hasn’t Dori Lavelle stepped it up a notch or two from Book 1 (Secrets & Lace). Chloe is now forced to suffer the consequences of mistakes made in her youth. Held prisoner by the one man she thought would always love, honor and protect her. Humiliated, imprisoned and tortured as punishment. Can Chloe survive having her heart and body broken by the one man who use to worship that same body. Can she survive her mixed feelings of guilt, love and hate. This book is not for the faint hearted. Great read. I’m anticipating Book 3.
Chloe wakes to a nightmare on the Vendetta. Never did she believe her wedding would begin and end like this. She must be dreaming because Miles would never do these horrible things to her. But Alvin would. Alvin is back and he wants his pound of flesh. He wants his revenge and he wants to make sure Chloe knows how badly she hurt him. Every second he spent in emotional pain will be paid back ten fold.
Chloe is desperate to get away and risks herself to find help. When she can't get it she becomes a fighter. She won't stop until she gets off that boat. Time is running out and so are her chances for survival
This book is edge of your seat good. Dori Lavelle is one of my favorite authors and I can't wait for her next release!!!
This is apart of a series, must read book 1 first. Ok one was great but this one was beyond amazing. We get to see who miles really is. NO SPOILERS, but this is dark and may cause triggers. I was so shocked to find out about miles/alvin. This was so suspenseful. Edge of the sit needing to learn more. Dori had me feeling what the characters felt. I felt trapped on the boat with them. The end was amazing going right into miles/alvins mind. This was better than 1 and I didn't want it to end. I need more I still have questions of what will happen in the future. Brilliant series again from dori.
Let's all take a minute to give a round of applause to Dori Lavelle for managing to write a thrilling sequel to the first book. Just when you think things can't get worse than this, she comes up with even a darker and thrilling plot. This novel was one hell of a ride that I very much enjoyed. I actually sympathize with Miles/Alvin, but that's no excuse for the evils he committed. well, now I am dying to read the next book now and I probably will be a dreaming a lot about Alvin. Hahaaa
I was given this Great Opportunity by Dori Lavelle to read this book and give an Honest review
OMG!! This book was crazy!! I'm still in shock (lol) It's a great book some parts were hard but it answers questions I had
Can't wait for part three I want to know what Dori has for us next (I'm kind of scared lol) Hope both Chloe and Miles move on and can find a happy ending
If you Haven't read Part 1 don't know what your waiting for go on read it you won't be disappointed
This is the second book in the Fatal Hearts series and you should read book 1 Secrets and Lace first.
The story starts from where the first one left off I not going say much as not to spoil it for you but .. this one is all kinds of crazy and Torture in it.
Such a Rollercoaster of a ride and another i started and couldn't put it down till I finished.
Can't wait for book 3 I really think we haven't seen the last of the secrets and Twists just yet :)
Brilliant. Was better than book one. Very dark, had scenes of rape and abusive content. Please be advised.
In this we get to see miles true self Alvin. Trapped on a boat with him, will Kelley get out alive?? I was holding on to the edge of my seat. Loved every page. I really hope for more. Again dori wrote a brilliant suspenseful series. 5 stars.
What an unbelievable frightening ride this was! Such devastation & fear & terror. Definitely keeps the heart pounding! But there's also strength & courage & fight. CANNOT WAIT to read the next chapter in this intense tale!!
Arc provided by author for honest opinion Wow this book was crazy Good!! And steaming hot. I don't want to give to much away in this away. But I recommend everyone need it you will all see what I mean. Dori amazing job 5.stars plus.
Rec'd an ARC for honest review. This story is darker then Dori's others, but oh so good. The suspense is unnerving leaving the reader's imagation in awe while waiting for the next release.
Second book also didn't rock my world. Skipped a lot and I'm definetely not going to read last book. I love dark books, but this story didn't grab me at all. Sorry
There is something about how this author writes that keeps me turning the pages. I find myself wishing I could stop but at the same time I can't. This is definitely not a happy story. On to the conclusion and see how this turns out for Kelly/Chloe and Alvin/Miles.
