Hiroyuki Takei (武井宏之 Takei Hiroyuki) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime Shaman King. His brother, Hirofumi Takei (武井宏文) is also a manga-ka.
As the Hao tease dies quickly at the beginning, the story returns to the Golem until we get the surprise arrival of Chocolov and his sudden transformation. What's most annoying now is how death is simply a process utilized to grow stronger rather than an end attached with an emotional edge.
Fuck, spent too long between volumes that I forgot I was in the middle of the fight against Golem....
More examples of Takei trying to turn this manga into a mecha series. Spirit of Fire is seen flying in a jet-like form (with fuckin' wheels in his feet). Chocolove returns with a new Spirit and an armor-type Oversoul that seems like a Power Rangers "Battlizer" (which isn't a thing in Japan's native Super Sentai series, so I guess it's more a Saint Seiya reference?).
We're still wanking over power-levels here, but they seem almost less significant. Camel mentions Golem's furyoku level as being far higher than Horohoro or Ren's, but Ren briefly mentions techniques to make up for lower levels, somewhat similar to Son Goku's bursts of the Kaio-Ken multiplier in the Saiyan and Namek arcs of Dragon Ball. Well, until Ren mentions just overloading furyoku output to make up for power-level gap....
I like how Yoh's dad is just talking to himself to narrate his background with Camel. Fits in with his zaniness, especially as he's still in the process of fuckin' dying.
As with previous volumes, there aren't really any big developments about which I might type a huge wall of text. I'm left passively commenting on the direction of the story as it continues the same trajectory it began a short while ago, as well as remarking on the cool pseudo-mecha designs Takei keeps doing. I guess I can mention Chocolove is probably my favorite character at this point. He keeps getting cool shit. Good emotional moments. He's trying to beat Camel into recognizing that he's dead, which is neat. Atonement for his (Chocolove's) past sins as a gangster. He can summon the ghost of Machu Picchu now, too!
EDIT: Just remembered I did have something to say about this volume. Jeanne and Hao are more clearly acknowledged as opposing forces of Law and Chaos, resembling the primary metaphysic-politics at the heart of Shin Megami Tensei JRPGs. With Jeanne's law, people will be punished for transgressing against the X-Laws' established values. With Hao's lack of law, no one will be punished for any transgression, and are thus free to transgress as they please. Yoh takes a third option, roughly based on his brother's beliefs: "do unto others" and smoke weed e'r'day. Just like Christ and the Buddha before him. People who can see spirits cannot be bad people. Hao fights Golem to distract Camel from killing Hao's little brother. Jeanne, I know, will fuck Tao Ren in the future. The classic battle shounen manga trope of "the power of friendship" will prevail!

Yoh Asakura not only sees dead people, he talks and fights with them, too. That’s because Yoh is a shaman, a traditional holy man able to interact with the spirit world. Yoh is now a competitor in the “Shaman Fight”, a tournament held every 500 years to decide who will become the Shaman King and shape humanity’s future. Having dropped out of the shaman fight in order to save Ren's life, Yoh still finds himself a swirl a lethal conflict. Before he can prevent it, Ludsev and Salerm exact their revenge on Joco for the murder of their father. And soon Yoh finds himself facing not only the fearsome golem but Hao's entire team!
Ever since Amazon linked up with comiXology, so that readers could get comics, graphic novels and manga on their kindles, I have been meaning to check out what they had. Under Amazon Prime Reading you get a number of titles for free and this comiXology original is one such series.
The epic saga continues with the gang face to face with Hao and his evil minions whilst also being attacked by the golem being piloted by the ghost of the father of Ludsev and Salerm. Yoh is being his usual calm self but the odds seem against them. With Joco's life still in the balance their future in the Shaman Fight and their lives are in jeopardy.
Easy to read and engaging, I enjoyed this and it felt just like reading a paperback manga, even on Kindle, as you have to click through the book backwards. A nice little touch. Back to 4 stars here. The story is coming together nicely.
The battle continues, as Dr Munzer's golem causes trouble for the characters, until Joco returns. This volume does a great deal for Joco's character, showing how his recent experience has changed him to become a stronger individual. I'm hoping the golem subplot will pay off, because otherwise this has been a waste of time, but for now, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.
The pace continues to roll. I cannot help but praise Hiroyuki Takei for giving a wildly entertaining romp within the shaman lives in this latest volume of Shaman King. Hao seems to have everyone beneath his fingertips and is controlling all the people like chess (or checkers) pieces on the board. This volume continues to flush out characters within the book who under a different creator might never get this depth of discussion. I really have my own theories on how this will all conclude, but to be honest even with the straightforward storytelling, it is hard to see Takei’s final goal. I think the Shaman Fight slowed down more than I thought it would, but I believe all that is happening will play into the conclusion of this series!
And the epilogue and the fight against the golem continues as the people in our team are dying and coming back to life so let's go on and Keep on Reading.
I have always loved comics, and I can and I have. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more. You should also read what you love, and I hope you will always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.
If I could I would probably give this book 4.5 stars but I can’t so it’ll have to settle for 4. This book was throwing things at me left and right people come back to life people are being possessed ( I mean that was happening before anyway ) sibling drama is going on and that cat that I thought was completely useless is actually not! I don’t write reviews or rate books very often but I felt like I had to for this one. I personally can’t wait to see what comes next from this series.

Hao is ready to let Spirit of Fire engulf and consume the golem wither or not Seyram is inside, which means that Yoh is going to need all the help he can get - good thing he has to look no further than Joco and his new power! Takei ramps up the peril with this extremely action-packed entry to the "Shaman King" series. Joco is back and ready to bite!
Yeah nah the amount of ass pulls happening right now are getting to Shippuden end game levels. It’s never explained why Joco is back, he’s got like 3 over souls, what happened to Salerm? So many questions and they just keep adding more random shit to see what sticks and so far none of it is.

This volume. For real, it's the one that made Joco one of my favourite characters in this manga. His backstory and his growth as a person is simply beautiful storytelling.
