A 3.5 💋💋💋 It was from faith to choice. This was the dream couple even with down but still lovely! So now, I still have to read sexy middle but non age crisis's side story.
I love Abigail Barnette's writing. I loved the entirety of the Boss series and now I love it just as much when it comes to Ian and Penny's story. I love the format of writing two books, the same story, from both people's points of view. It gives readers a chance to choose which side they want to hear first and then learn so much more information that fills in the blanks when reading the other side (note: at least this is how I felt reading the first two books in the series, I haven't read Ian's story for Second Chance yet but I'm very glad she's continuing to write both sides).
I love how Abigail Barnette never shies away from writing about difficult topics but she always does it in the most incredible way. She provides trigger warnings at the beginning of the book, she writes the story honestly, and she neither sugar coats anything nor does she make things into some awful horror story. The event of her books may be a bit out of the ordinary (given how often most people fall in love with hot middle-aged millionaires) but the characters and their emotions always feel incredibly realistic. They aren't always pretty or nice to talk about but they're always honest.
Penny and Ian were incredible as always. They're just generally one of the cutest couples I've read in a while, they're both so head over heels in love with each other.
There are just a few things I would have liked to see a little more of in this but for most of them I have a strong feeling I'll see more in Ian's story.
As usual with Abigail Barnette books, I couldn't put it down and I can't wait for more.
I love this series so much. And it's become one of my comfort reads...even Second Chance which has so much sadness.
The way Abigail Barnette writes about Penny and Ian's shared grief and their different ways of processing it is so real and heartfelt that it hits me in the chest every time I read it.
I love this couple. I can't wait to read the next 2 books.
Due to the always amazing writing, I had to round up. 4 stars just doesn't do it justice. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started The Boss series. But Abigail has brought stories and characters that are true reflections of life and I will always love them. She has a reader for life.
So I read The Baby right before this, as I knew the timelines cross over. Having read that one first, I didn't think it was possible to gut me AGAIN so soon (Yeah, I'm looking at you Jenny Trout)
After finishing the first two books I couldn’t stop reading this series, while I enjoyed it I didn’t like it as much as the previous books. Not sure why, but I still enjoyed reading these two books, and I think reading a chapter of each book was a fun way to read the books.
