29 books188 followersI’m Ellie Douglas, and like you, I love horror, everything about horror, the goriest and most gruesome of horrors is the ultimate. I can’t get enough. So much so that I write horror. That need to be graphic, and explicit with my horror scenes makes me stand out. I give what I want to read to others, so now they can enjoy a true horror story.
I’m not all about just being graphic, I also build characters that the readers will love and or hate, so they can feel pulled right inside of the story that they are reading. It gives me so much enjoyment when I hear remarks like, ‘You made me want to puke,’ ‘I have nightmares every damned night –thanks,’ and ‘Quentin Tarantino and Steven King made a baby, YOU!’ when I hear comments like that, I know then I’ve succeeded, that also pushes me into writing more and becoming even better.
I’m fun loving, generous and very mysterious. I enjoy spending time with my family, and have four children to keep the horror writing alive. I enjoy helping others and volunteer my services to help Autistic children, I love cosplay and the chance to dress up as a monster, zombie or some other gritty character is fun, oh so much fun.

A dried stench of the walls and streets painted in human gore makes you gag on a scary drive through the streets and cities populated by someone's pets-turned-zombies.
This is the dusk of humankind, hounded by dead but very alive dogs and a virus. As we witness the gruesome destruction of one human individual after another, it's hard to feel sympathy for the whole human species. People liked dwarfism for exotic animals to have pet tigers, lions, elephants, giraffes.... But that idea came from the same laboratory as something else with a much higher price and dire consequences.
Even when the most dominate species on the planet becomes the species facing its sudden extinction, humans again showed their ugly face of robbing, scavenging, praying and killing one another. The weak beacon of hope lays in the hands of the few willing to sacrifice themselves for their beloved ones and the general good of complete strangers. Is that so different from our world? When will we learn the big lesson?
The transformation of the beloved dog Pepper into a living dead is remarkable. The end of the book is brilliant. No reason to delay purchasing and reading this gripping horror story!

It happens fast, with scarcely any warning. Man’s best friend changed. They’re no longer a loving pet. Now they’re dead and deadly. And humans are their favorite meal.
I do love a good zombie story, and dogs, how exciting. Never read about zombie dogs before. Zombie sharks, yes.
My favorite part in plots like this are the group dynamics. In Hounded you have Cal and his family, trying to fight off the zombie dogs and stay alive. When the daughter gets ill, they recognize the symptoms they’d been hearing about and rush her to the hospital. There, she falls into a coma, and they can’t leave. Wouldn’t be safe to do so anyway. The dogs are determined, and it’s probably only a matter of time before the hospital is overrun too.
Cal’s worries about the fate of his twin brother, Bellamy, lead him to do some stupid things. Others pay the terrible price and now he just wants to get back to the hospital. Will his family still be there? Will they be alive? He rushes to return and find out.
I enjoyed getting stories from Cal and his brother, Bellamy. Both of them are determined to find each other and both are fighting so many obstacles. It’s nerve wracking to turn the page and see what awful fate might await them. Hey, it’s zombie dogs and anyone is fair game.
Some of the things the character’s do had me snorting in derision. Why do they do that? Haven’t they watched the movies? Don’t they know the rules? Some of you may be thinking, nope, don’t want that. But, humans are flawed, we do dumb things. Only recognizing it later. The mistakes make this an edgy page turner.
Lots of gore, I mean lots. Just to warn you. Zombie fans should try this series. It’ll feed your craving and keep you on edge to the bitter end.

Man's best friend? You've got to be kidding me!
Ellie Douglas throws you straight into the terrifying chaos ahead. This brilliant author does not hold back when it comes to violence and gore.
I had my eye on Hounded for a while. The title, the picture of a menacingly wild dog. As a fan of some of Stephen King's earlier work, my mind was thinking: Cujo.
Got to read, have to read.
Then it turns out to be more than a take on some wild or rabid dog. We are talking undead dogs here, people. Yes, ZOMBIE DOGS. Try running away from them!
Yes, as always there's a virus, but for a change, the virus is explained. If you have watched apocalyptic movies or television shows then you will know this is something you rarely get to find out.
This is a well-written descriptive horror with great believable characters and situations you'll pray you never find yourself in.
The story kept me on edge throughout with amazingly detailed scenarios. I was always thinking, 'I can't wait to turn to the next page.'
The action is intense. It comes fast and my oh my, it comes furious. There are unexpected twists and turns. Some of the characters you will love, and some you couldn't care less about. That's life! That's death!
This story will make you cheer, scream, and cry for the brother's on their separate journeys to find one another in an altogether new world of extreme fear and pandemonium.
I look forward to Hounded 2 when I get the chance, and will tuck into future works of Ellie Douglas. As a fellow author, other authors will know what I mean by, 'Get the chance.'

Having to face off against zombies is bad enough but when they turn out to be zombie dogs you have the true nightmare that is Ellie Douglas’ Hounded. The Fosters find themselves fighting for survival as they are hunted by the undead, their tense story culminating in a surprise twist. I loved that this book had more than just the stereotypical zombie, and that it was about the powerful bond between family. All around a good one for you zombie lovers out there!

HOUNDED is the first book I have read by Ellie Douglas, and it most certainly will not be the last. It is also the first horror book I have read in an age. Not that I don’t like horror, quite the opposite, it is just that I prefer sleeping without nightmares. In spite of that, on occasion I will delve into the world of horror. Though, recent trends in this genre seem to lean heavily on the zombie theme, I have found zombies to be utterly disgusting creatures since the days of “THE NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD”. Yet, Ms. Douglas seems to have found a unique twist with her zombie dogs, so I thought I’d give it a try. Wow! Now I have to read HOUNDED TWO.
This great tale whets your curiosity and pulls you into the thick of the nightmare in the very first chapter. It is truly an irresistible page turner, even for a person who fears to see what is on the next page, yet is somehow drawn to turn the page and find out nevertheless.
HOUNDED is heart-thumping fast –paced, with all the ‘gasp” “ick”, “yuk” and “shriek” stuff of top-notch horror. If you are prone to nightmares from graphic blood and gore descriptions, I suggest you not read this book right before going to bed. And after you’ve finished reading it, you may never again look at “man’s best friend” in the same way.
I highly recommend HOUNDED to all hard-core horror fiends…uh, fans…and to anyone (mature teen & up) who loves an occasional traipse into terror. Ms. Douglas gets my vote as the official Queen of Horror.

Can man survive Man’s Best Friend turned Man’s Worst Enemy?
I believe Hounded is a great story with a huge amount of potential. The characters were believable and the reader does find themselves pulling for them throughout the story. For anyone that loves a lot of gore, this is definitely a story for you. Some of the descriptions of deaths in the book are graphic and horrific.
The parts of the story I had issues with came down to more the telling of the story rather than the story itself. There were some instances where the Author over used similes. Sometimes, three times in the span of two paragraphs. There were also instances where the wrong words were used as descriptives within the story.

5 Star horror zombie dogs
When man's best friend becomes man's greatest threat, when the zombie apocalypse strikes in the form of our four legged friends, when this happens it comes in the form of Hounded by Ellie Douglas. This is a crazy wild ride fueled by short sharp written quick chapters. From the beginning of the book I was hooked first trying to figure out how all this happened and why. Then just going along the wild ride.
I don't like to write reviews that give anything away so I'll just give my opinion of the book. The end was excellent. The story was thrilling and immediately attention grabbing and keeping. I will buy book 2 to see where this story takes me. The story was excellently written and vivid. I could see the movie as I was reading including the blood and guts. A whole book about Zombie dogs and people's reaction to the problem - I thought it was a good premise and the Ellie Douglas fulfilled its promise! I definitely suggest you pick up a copy and read it. It will definitely leave you Hounded!

When you hear the premise of Hounded (originally published as Zombie Dogs SB-16), you don't expect much in the writing department, but I was pleasantly surprised that author Ellie Douglas has a good hold on the language.
A worse writer, with this same premise, could easily write much worse and just get by shock value, but Douglas does a good enough job creating characters you want to spend the book's (and it's sequel's) length with.
The writing is evocative, exciting and cautious depending on which scene you're in, and much better than some bestselling author's work.

Gosh, part of this book had me in tears. Very emotional. From the relationship I got with the characters. I loved all of them. I especially love Bellamy and Lily. How they developed into what I can only hope to be an ever lasting relationship.
This is an extraordinary zombie book from any others I have read. We have zombie dogs, Jesus, my poor pet poodle. I will never look at her the same again. Gut wrenching graphic detail. I was almost sick at times.
I love how the author evoked literal goosebumps from me. It was terrifying, the way she wrote it seemed. Well without sounding like a school kid, real. It honestly felt like I was there as one of her characters running for my damned life, I could feel my pulse quicken and that is no easy feat to pull off, kudos to the author.
What I found interesting is that the author gave explanation to how the virus started. You don’t get that much in zombie books. So that was refreshing.
Some of the editing could have been done a lot tighter, but in saying that. It did not cause any disillusions toward the writing. It was easy enough to be glossed over. The book was very enjoyable and memorable. I don’t think I could ever forget this one. I have got her second in the series and plan on reading that this weekend.

A virus is starting to go around that is turning dogs into zombies. These dogs have an insatiable taste for human flesh. Then the virus gets transferred to humans and starts putting them into comas. As everything breaks down, we follow several people as they navigate this new world.
This is a horror story at its finest. You don’t normally see zombie creatures so thinking that man’s best friend could turn into a zombie was a great idea. Just the simple thought of when does your dog stop being sick and need to be put down is hard under normal circumstances. But in this case if you don’t put them down you become lunch.
Then the virus gets transferred to humans putting them into comas. Of course everything is going to break down as people panic with the dawning apocalypse. We follow along as people are trying to get to their loved ones but find themselves in danger from dogs and other humans alike.
This is a great horror story. I love how you could follow the progression of the virus which you don’t normally get. I loved the blood and gore, very bloody and very realistic. You will have front row seats to mauling’s and the evil that one person does to another.
This is a great story. If you like zombies this is a fresh take on them and one book that you need to check out. It does end on a cliff hanger so be sure to have the second book handy.

I bought this book for its great cover and intriguing premise, and I was NOT disappointed.
As one would expect, there is tons of action, loads of suspense and enough wonderfully detailed gore to go around, but it was the realistic reactions of a well-rounded cast of characters that made it all ring true. After all, it's one thing to be dropped into an apocalypse with clearly-defined battle lines, but it's quite another to have the apocalypse slowly creep up all around you.
At what point do the rules change? How much would you have to see and hear and experience before you realized you were in a new world? And perhaps more poignant to the story, when do you decide that the beloved family pet is a monster that must be destroyed rather than a sick dog in need of a vet?
For me, it was this last that made the tale truly horrific. In fact, as an animal lover, I would probably have been one of the first to go, and it would have been a mercy. I don't think I'm giving anything away when I say that in this freakish world the author created, once man's best friend turns, mankind can't be far behind.

Omg where the hell do I start?
Anyone who knows me will know that I love a good zombie film/book and when the opportunity rose for me to be part of Ellie’s tour and to take part in reviewing for her, I jumped at the change.
Hounded was one ‘hell’ of a ride. Zombie Dogs? Why not? I also love the ending and one that I know will grow bigger in the second book.
Ellie got me from the first page, from the faithful pet to a hideous and dangerous animal. I grew to love and hate the characters and I would find myself groaning if someone went off on their own. For goodness sake don’t they realise you should never split up? I know, I know, it’s only a book but….
I finished reading Hounded at 12.45am Thursday morning, BUT I just had to find out what would happen to Calloway and his family, which I can tell you, it is pretty scary what the next book is going to be like.
As an author, Ellie is one hell of a writer, she will take you on a roller-coaster ride and one that you won’t want to get off.
I was very lucky to be given both books so coming soon will be my review of Hounded 2.
If you get a chance to read and you are a big fan of zombies then this is the book for you.

Ellie got me from the first page, from the faithful pet to a hideous and dangerous animal. I grew to love and hate the characters and I would find myself groaning if someone went off on their own. For goodness sake don’t they realise you should never split up? I know, I know, it’s only a book but….
I finished reading Hounded at 12.45am Thursday morning, BUT I just had to find out what would happen to Calloway and his family, which I can tell you, it is pretty scary what the next book is going to be like.
As an author, Ellie is one hell of a writer, she will take you on a roller-coaster ride and one that you won’t want to get off.
I was very lucky to be given both books so coming soon will be my review of Hounded 2.
If you get a chance to read and you are a big fan of zombies then this is the book for you.

Hounded is an incredible book that is set in the present, yet due to a virus that has gripped the planet, making it a very different world to the one we know. The virus, SB16, sends humans into comas, and turns dogs into blood-crazed zombies.
The story follows several people who are struggling for survival in the apocalyptic mayhem, with two factions of a family attempting to find one another. The realism is staggering, and the gory details provide the reader with the true horror of the situations. The pace is relentless, moving brilliantly from character to character, never al-lowing the reader to become bored in any way whatsoever. Furthermore, the charac-ters are not only believable, but they draw one in, and the bi-play and banter is ulti-mately refreshing. Another thing that impressed me hugely was a possible explanation for the virus, which one of the main characters—Bellamy—informs his acquaintances of.
Hounded, it seems, won’t end where it does, as Hounded 2 was advertised at the end of the book. This I find pleasing, because this book really does leave one wanting more. For anyone who likes

Imagine you wake up one day, a virus starts to plague your town sending people into a coma like state. While your beloved pet dogs turn in to zombies and only crave human flesh. The book follows several families on their journey to survive this apocalypse. Calloway’s daughter falls ill with the virus and is being held in the hospital, while his wife tends to her, his son and himself set off to Vermont to find his brother Bellamy, meanwhile, Bellamy is trying to come to him. He rescues a woman and two children on their way. They find an old filming location that has several families living in the old sets. There they are faced with a horrific secret about the towns “sheriff”.
I felt really connect to these characters. They were built up in a way for me to have an emotional connection with them. I felt their pain during tragedy and their happiness during triumphs.
I’m excited to read Hounded 2 to see how the book will end.

“Hounded” is a full-out Zombie apocalypse with a lot of visual detail and gore. It had the feel and violence of the show “The Walking Dead”. Yet, it focused on animals over humans becoming Zombies which was a nice twist. There were two story lines focusing on brothers in different states. I like apocalypse scenarios, and Zombies thrown in are a bonus. Plus, there’re a lot of well-done descriptive passages of the carnage that goes along with these creatures. The Zombies were chilling eating machines and the humans confused and trying to survive. I was rooting for some of the characters, but a few I didn’t care what happened to them, which I’m sure is what Ms. Douglas intended. There were a couple of editing issues I noticed along the way, but it didn’t pull me out of this exciting horror story. Although, I’m not a huge fan of “tons of gore” I will have to read “Hounded 2” to see what happens next. If you love Zombies, descriptive bloody details, and action--this is the book for you.

I felt like the first few chapters gave an awful lot of details on the deaths by zombie dogs. It was a bit too much description for my taste. I did enjoy the different character clusters and the occasion crossing over between the groups of one person or more. I particularly liked the details at the hospital - those descriptions I feel like embodied the way life had become as a result of the virus and the dogs transformation and destruction. I had hoped for more story and less gore but that again is my preference the description were quite vivid - I really could picture the way the animal looked and the process of their transformation and what they were like. Their souls were essentially dead along with their bodies decaying. If you love descriptive horror this could be a great book for you.

This is not a genre I would usually choose, but wow! it had me hooked from the start. Fast paced, bloody, and gory, it tells the story of a zombie apocalypse, coinciding with a human virus which has hospitals overflowing, at the same time as pet dogs are becoming the undead. The plot develops rapidly with lots of twists and turns along the way, to the point where you are never sure where it's going to take you next - just when you thought it was safe to read another chapter... The Author writes with a unique style, her graphic attention to setting the scene making the characters jump out of the page, and have you squirming in your seat, as the blood spurts and the rancid flesh hangs in shreds. This book will have you riveted until the very end! Ellie Douglas is the Mistress of Horror! I loved this book - escapism at its absolute best!

Yet the surprising side effect creates savage zombie canine to attack, maul and dismember humans. Pinned on survival, the story surrounds itself on two brothers in their own hellish worlds desperate to find each other while fighting off the undead dogs and seeing their loved ones succumb to the deadly virus. Great action, horrific scenes and credible characters allow Douglas to revamp the zombie genre to another level.

Hounded is a unique take on the Horror/Zombie genre, one that will create nightmares and have you questioning whether your pet is the sweet little angle it has always been. I enjoyed the twists of the story. The action and fast pace kept my attention. Nicely done.

Horror has many facets - from the outright shocking blood and gore right down to the most personal fears. Author, Ellie Douglas, sticks to one theme and that is blood and gore. If you're squeamish you are forewarned. As a first title, self-published, there is potential and I do think the author can only grow as she proceeds forward with her writing career.

Very original, very descriptive and very gory- that's what you need to know about this novel. The author does a fantastic job describing animal attacks and zombie flesh degradation- perhaps too good! You may never look at Man's best friend the same way again! I would recommend both for the original concept, the fast paced action and the anticipated goriness.

A book about zombie dogs that continue to spread killing humans in their way. The descriptions are quite detailed and I could picture the gore, torn apart bodies, and the horrific dogs. too frequent for my taste. The faint of heart would not be able to read this book. It is a horror story in every sense of the word.

Brilliantly written, superb descriptiveness. Very clever story line, a real page turner, even for this non-horror reader. Highly recommended.

We needed a zombie story with animals and this one delivers. The kills are bloody and graphic. The characters were okay. The ending could've been better but in all still an entertaining tale.

Even if you are some aficionados of the genre, I'm sure the title and description of the book might mislead you. Dogs ... zombie dogs (don’t think that I gave you a spoiler, it is written everywhere) – a little odd you could say. Now, don’t be such stick in the mud. The madness had to start from somewhere. And if you’ll have a bit of patience and you’ll not roll your eyes, you’ll have a little surprise. How nice it will be... only depends on you.

Do not make the mistake of saying that because the author is a woman, everything will slowly slip into a mushy romance. No, nothing of this kind! Ellie Douglas's book is like waking up straight into the 5th season of The Walking Dead series, where the zombies had already become a décor, and the spots are taken by screwballs, or by all sorts of people which shows their true nature in limbo situations: some are more courageous, some are more cowardly, some of them altruistic, others more despicable ... you know the fauna. And if it is not enough for you, know that, at some point, things will take a pure horror turn, just like in those movies with the dude with the chainsaw ... ok, enough with the references! Oh, and don’t forget the zombie dogs...
As I already told you, the writer does not waste time at all. You will not get bored by dull intros or anything that will cause you yawning. Action, baby! That's what you want, isn’t it? Violence? Graphic descriptions? The implacability of destiny? The destruction of civilization? The zombie Apocalypse? You will have them all, without imposture and without hypocrisy. So, if you are a fan of soft core zombie stories (sounds bad, right?), you should try other books! Hounded is not for you. Or who knows, maybe you will like it.
