I, ex-witch Stevie Cartwright, do hereby solemnly swear to avoid future murder-mystery shenanigans, nosiness, tomfoolery, and any further crazy killer inflicted pain to my person, so help me goddess…🤩🍮🤩🍮Hah! Like I could help myself? But after busting my butt (literally!) on the last murder case in my beloved hometown of Ebenezer Falls, WA, I could use a nice long break. I was determined to take the time to enjoy the company of my bat familiar, Belfry; my British ex-spy ghost, Win; our adorable St. Bernard rescue, Whiskey; and of course our gorgeous home, Mayhem Manor, freshly and lovingly renovated.Until shazam—a dead man invites himself to our fancy housewarming party! When my mother's husband number five ends up deep-sixed in my parlor, it's not like I can't NOT try to solve this mystery, right? Especially if I ever want Mom to leave so I can get back to my semi-peaceful existence. But our work is definitely cut out for us this time. With Belfry's rascally bat family visiting and the two hundred or so guests, acrobats, mimes, cooks, catering staff, orchestra members—and a surprise guest who throws me for a loop in the house—suspects sure aren't a problem.Looks like it's time for another spirit-filled, witchless adventure in Ebenezer Falls!

After the last local murder, Stevie is hoping for a return to normalcy. If normalcy is, a swanky housewarming party that her ghost, Win convinced her to have. It’s a party complete with acrobats, orchestra members, and ice sculptures. She has invited all the townsfolk and Lord help her, even her mother. By now, the reader/listener knows that Stevie’s life is anything but normal. As the caterers set up, and the orchestra begins to tune their instruments, Stevie gets a surprise visitor and in the next breath learns that Belfry’s family is arriving TODAY. Could things get worse? How about murder, in the dining room with a…wait that’s CLUE, however, there is a murder and her own mother becomes a suspect.
In case you haven't guessed, I am thoroughly enjoying the Witchless Seattle series. Each book involves a new murder mystery that Stevie ends up getting involved in whether it is to clear her name, help a friend or in this case clear her own mother. Cassidy weaves an interesting case filled with plenty of suspects, local law enforcement, and spiritual entities.
As Stevie investigates, we meet town folk and learn about our characters. In Dewitched, we learn more about the warlock, who took Stevie’s powers, meet the parents, spend time with Belfry’s wild and crazy relations and learn more about ex-spy and resident ghost Winterbottom. Cassidy does all this while weaving in hilarious banter, Stevie’s commentary all on Win’s smooth guidance. I love the little things, like the banter between local law enforcement and Stevie as she investigates.
Cassidy delivers danger, twists and surprise suspects as Stevie snooping soon makes her a target. Secondary threads involving a certain Warlock, Win and the stranger who visited enhanced the overall ARC and kept me listening. While the murderer ended up surprising us, I enjoyed how Cassidy tied it all together.
Whenever I listen to this series, I know I am in for a treat. Hollie Jackson’s voices for the characters from Win’s British accent to Belfry’s high-pitched squeals are brilliant. Cassidy’s snarky protagonist and slapstick humor lend themselves perfectly to the audiobook format. I cannot imagine simply reading these stories. Dewitched is a bit better than the previous book, but not that much. I mean, I didn't hate it. It is still just an okay story, one which doesn't leave any lasting impression of any kind. The good: Stevie seems to have her magic somewhere buried deep down and Win is all for it getting it back. Since that's not what this story is about, this doesn't go anywhere. Next, they are having a party and someone gets murdered there. If you've read any of these books, you know she is not going to sit any wait. This time, though, she gets permission of sorts from Officer Nelson. I might have been wrong about him being a possible love interest. That would be Win. Why go the easy (read: alive and breathing) way.
The good and bad: Stevie's mother. It was as if there were two different people in this book, both her mother. Not thrilled: the murderer popped out of nowhere. And I wish the issue with Stevie's magic was moved a bit further.
And I don't know where to put that cliffhanger, so I'll just leave it here: the book ends with it. You can read what it is in the next book's summary.
4.5 Stars... Another riotous, rollicking whodunit with this zany cast of characters... Stevie's self centered, selfish mother makes an appearance in this book and all is not what it seems with her very posh life; when her current husband is murdered the hidden truths must be revealed and the past must be confronted... Add into that a surprise visit from an adorable, egotistical, absentee father and Stevie is at her breaking point... Thankfully she has Win, Bel, and Whiskey to pull her back from the brink... Let the sleuthing begin!... Oh, and did I mention that little surprise ending...hmm, looks like I better get started on that next read:)
Oh my goodness! I couldn't believe the outrageous and hilarious situations in this book. I also couldn't put it down. Stevie and crew are solving another murder that happens in the middle of her housewarming party. Belfry's family is visiting (yep a family of bats) and Stevie's Mom, Step dad and a man claiming to be her biological dad join in the fun. Another well written mystery and lots of action. I'm on to book 4.
Dewitched:Witchless In Seattle Book 3 Read in chronological order.
The Protagonist: Stevie Cartwright is a former witch. She has had her powers slapped out of her. Literally. Stevie is funny, feisty, self-deprecating smart and charming. Did I mention nosey?
The Plot: Stevie is hosting a party at her new home. Her mother Dita arrives with her new husband, Bart the Warlock. Somebody murders Bart at Stevie's party. So this investigation is personal and complicated by the fact that Dita is looking for her next husband 24 hours after her last husband's death. Death, double-crossing, infidelity and bankruptcy. It is all here.
I am a fan of the series. The books are well written. They draw you in and are page turners. This one has the right blend of humour, lightness, and drama.
As usual, a strong supporting cast. We meet Stevie's dreaded mother and her father. Yes, it's all happening in this one. Look out for Uncle Ding, Belfry's uncle. I laughed out loud.
A highly recommended read for cosy lovers (or not). What are you waiting for?

My rating system (* = star) 0* Could not finish this book (waste of time) 1* Finished the book but didn't like it. 2* Finished the book it was okay. 3* A good read worth your time. 4* An excellent read often with a novel concept or unusual plot. 5* A magnificent read. A prominent example of the genre.
3rd in Th Witchless in Seattle paranormal cozy mystery series. Definitely read these in order. Each is progressive in character building as well as in references and building on storylines.
Cute, humorous and entertaining. The mystery solving is more by happenstance than ability but she buts in, ask questions and stirs the pot. In the end, death investigation solved.
I'm looking forward to the next book. The last few paragraphs in this book were a very successful teaser to continue reading.
I like this series but this was my least favourite of the books so far.
I'm not a fan of family drama, so the whole story line with Stevie's mother arriving and creating havoc did not interest or engage me. If I were Stevie I'd have show the mother the door about 24 hours after she arrived based on how she behaved and treated Stevie. To be fair, the story line was wrapped up in a way that made sense, but I could have done without that whole aspect of the book.
Happily, all the things I do like about this series were here - I love Belfrey the familar, and meeting his family who visited in this book was also fun. I absolutely love Win! He is a perfect cozy hero and romantic leading man for Stevie . . . even if he's also dead and just a voice in her head . . . well, until the end of this book that is.
The cliff hanger ending did not make me happy. I understand it, as a way to continue the suspense and the romantic tension between Win and Stevie, but I'm always a little irked by being left hanging by my fingernails at the end of a book.
My favourite thing about this series is the humour that the author infuses into virtually every scene. Between Stevie's sarcastic response to the ridiculous situations she keeps finding herself in, to Win's reactions to her family or her bad choices these books always make me laugh out loud with their humour and I absolutely love that!
Overall, this was an okay installment in series I like very much. I will definitely keep reading especially since the next book will bring the focus back to Stevie and Win, rather than family issues.
Review will be posted at www.books-n-kisses.com . NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 Another exciting adventure of Stevie, Wyn, Belfry and the rest of Stevie’s band of misfits. But this time it is personal. Not only does death and murder seem to be following Stevie around like a the plague the last few months. This current murder is family. Well kinda, she did just meet the guy. But he was married to her mother. So, I guess they are family. Right? And of course it has to happen at Stevie’s house warming party. So yeah, it is personal this time. As always, Ms. Cassidy writes a fun and snarky story that makes me love her characters (and her) all over again. There are a few things that happen in Dewitched that I can’t wait to see how Ms. Cassidy is going to solve. Ms. Jackson does another fantastic job of bring Ms. Cassidy’s characters to life. I am looking forward to the next book in this series!
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tantor Audio in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
After a bit of a break from the series it was fun to come back to Stevie's craziness! It was easy to jump back in and remember what was going on, which was fun. I read this a couple weeks ago and then binged the rest of the published books in the series without writing reviews... ooops. So bear with me on this quick review.
I really like the characters, particularly Stevie's familiar Belfry and spy-ghost friend Win. Her relationship with the police really bothers me though. She makes fun of the detectives and acts like they are incompetent and she's more equipped to solve cases than they are. I can say, having binged the rest of the series, that this develops a bit and she does seem to grow in respect for the detectives. But in this book, it's still a problem.
And while I get that Stevie having a mother that is self-involved is part of the back-story, it wasn't my favorite part of this story. I did, however, enjoy her meeting her dad for the first time. That was interesting and suspicious all in one.
Overall it's fun and I quickly grabbed the next book.
Welcome back to Ebenezer Falls! Come join Stevie, Win, Belfry, and Whiskey in their House Warming Party! Everyone will be there! Including Belfry's entire family, Stevie's momster, and surprise! surprise!, her FATHER! Join in the action as once again Stevie uses her gut instinct and Win's help to solve a murder. This is my favorite so far in the Witchless in Seattle Mysteries series!! Read them all!!
Can the relationship between Stevie and her mother change? You can find out when you read this book. Win, aka Winterbottom, continues to help Stevie solve another murder. This time it is her step-father who is killed in her parlor.
Once again Dakota creates a page turner that you don't want to put down. It is difficult to wait to start the next one.
What can I say adore this series. We find out a little bit more about our debonaire spy guy and we get to meet the Bats, Bel's crazy family. The only issue I had with this one is the turnaround of Stevie's Mom. I can't say enough positive things about this series.
Wonderful 3rd book in a humorous, paranormal, mystery series with an excellent audiobook narration
All 32-year-old, feisty ex-witch, Stevie Cartwright, wants is to kick back and relax a bit after her recent harrowing ordeals fighting off bad guys while solving two different murders since her return several months ago to the small town where she was born and raised, Ebenezer Falls, Washington. However, her new BFF, Win, the ghost of a murdered British spy, is determined that Stevie experience a no-expenses-spared, catered, house-warming party for the newly renovated mansion he generously willed her. There are ice sculptures, champagne fountains, gourmet canapés, mimes, and Cirque du Soleil type performers. As if all that isn’t enough to deal with, Stevie is amazed when her beautiful, flighty, witch mother—whom she hasn’t seen since her magical powers were stolen and she was excommunicated from her witch community—shows up with husband number five, a handsome, rich warlock. But the true surprise of the evening is when another handsome warlock arrives who claims to be the father she never knew, because her mother would never tell her who he was. Before Stevie can adjust to this double whammy of parental bombshells, in the middle of the party, her step-father is murdered, and her fancy mansion becomes a crime scene.
Dakota Cassidy has done it again. I love Stevie, and I adore Win, who is as debonair as ever. Whisky, her St. Bernard rescue dog, and Belfry, her magical familiar, a tiny, cotton-ball bat, have bonded over games of fetch, and Belfry’s whole wacky bat family shows up for a visit.
All in all, this is a another weirdly wonderful, paranormal murder mystery with an abundance of humor and a brand new scary villain for Stevie to bravely cope with while coached through the mayhem by fabulous Win, the super-spy ghost.
The audiobook version that I listened to is narrated by the same excellent voice talent as the first two books, Hollie Jackson, who narrates the entire series, and is a joy to listen to.
Ugh i have such mixed feelings about the third book in this series. For one, i can't stand Stevie's mother in this book. I know that's the whole point of her character but it was to close to my own mother and it had me wanting to DNF several times. Another thing i didn't enjoy was the layout of the story, meaning they all ( so far) seem to copy each other in terms of events and how they are ending. I'm in need of some verity.
However there is alot of positives to this series. For starters it's absolutely hilarious. And the side characters can be charming if not adorable. Stevie's father got instance is a freaking Jelly Bean and i just want to squish him. And i do love the cliff hanger endings that make me want to read the next book immediately.
Overall i think this series has alot going for it, it just needs to be paced out correctly with other readings otherwise one could grow bored of the author's work.
The dysfunctional family drama is a very serious drag on this story. I don't read these books to feel sad, depressed and unhappy with the world.
The main character is great, but, apparently, her entire family on both parental sides is entirely composed of irredeemable slime and scum. The main character's tolerance (she gets outraged, but ultimately allows it to continue) of their behavior makes her actually much less likable than she had shown herself to be through the first 2 books. It had gotten so bad that I almost abandoned the book midway and the series altogether.
My only hope is that the parents will disappear again never to be seen on page in future books. They are the sort of people whose very existence generates a consistent field of endless misery around them, and any story with them present would be too depressing to read and not what I signed up for when I picked up this series.
This is the first book in this series that I have reviewed, third in the series though. The first two books had been sitting in my Kindle for a couple years (yes, I'm way behind on reading recommended books) and I read them so fast I wasn't sure if a review was warranted. It is. These books are a joy to read. They are simple, fun/funny and a nice break from heavier reading. They are mysteries mixed with a little paranormal background that make them hilarious at times. The writing reminds me a bit of Jana Deleon. Looking for something fun to read, check out the first one in the series, Witch Slapped, free on Amazon Kindle.
Loved it!!! This enjoyable and entertaining read was fantastic I have laughed so much with Stevie and her gang with all of there shenanigans. In this book we got introduced to so many new faces wasn't expecting the surprise twist. This was definitely a pages turner it had the right blend of humour, drama, and suspense to have you hooked from beginning to end. I'm totally looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no minority compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Dewitched by Dakota Cassidy is the 3rd book in the Witchless In Seattle series. These cozy mysteries are so much fun, I can't get enough of them.
I love the sense of humor that this Author has and puts in these books! She's hysterical! I want my own ghost and little bat familiar!!! She has a definite knack of adding that hook at the end to make you need to have the next book and story!!
Hollie Jackson does a great job with the narration as well!! ❤️
Stevie has a ghostly partner named Win. Lots of funny animals like her bar Belfry and his entire family. Stevie has a party and invited several people as well as her selfish mother. Her father also shows up. Her mother's current husband is killed at the party and there are many suspects. All the characters are fun and entertaining. With the help of her ghost Win who used to be a spy and others she sets out to figure out who the murderer is. Great series.
Stevie and Win finalized the renovation of the manor, and are throwing a house party. Much of Ebenezer Falls participated, whether as guests or features, and the other attendees were at least interesting.
But then, Stevie’s stepfather dies… and lots of reevaluations happen. Plus, Stevie meets her biological father, and he sees dead people, too! Including Win!
Belfry’s family comes to visit, and they adjust to being among humans, finally (and hilariously).
Ahh Stevie, parental issues are to be had by all. First mom shows up with husband #5, then a stranger/movie star appears who claims to be her father,,all while Stevie is trying to have a housewarming party and welcome Belfry’s family for a visit. When stepfather #5 is murdered during the party, Stevie, Winn, Belfry and the gang set out to investigate. A fast paced, humorous, quirky, story.
I enjoyed reading this third book in this series, and the storyline is better. This book is entertaining and filled with action, adventure and intrigue. The characters are amazing and I can't wait for more from this author. I received this book as a FREE copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review
Stevie decided to have a house warming party. Everything seems to be going well, until her stepfather is murdered. Once again, Stevie has to put on her detective hat. Stevie is assembling the whole gang for a new adventure. Stevie, Belfry, Winterbottom, and Whiskey are ready for some sleuthing.
I am definitely on #teamstevieandwin. Without giving anything away I really loved finding out more about Stevie's past. Truly love Dakota Cassidy's stories. Fast paced and giggle worthy. I recommend this series to everybody.
Fun enjoyable read. This story is another installment of the happens of Stevie. It is full of murder, mystery, and mayhem. This is a wonderful and entertaining murder mystery.
