When Sabrina's new purchase, a parcel of "wishdust" she buys at a witches' flea market, finds its way all over school, she must find a way to stop everyone's wishful thinking from ruining Friday's big dance. Original.
Ray Garton is the author of several books, including horror novels such as LIVE GIRLS (which has a movie in the works), CRUCIFAX, E4 AUTUMN, and THE FOLKS; thrillers like TRADE SECRETS and SHACKLED; and numerous short stories and novellas. He's also written a number of movie and television tie-ins for young readers. He lives with his wife, Dawn, in California.
Sabrina buys magic wishing powder in the other realm and takes it to school. Unfortunately for her, even mortals can use the wishing powder. When an elephant and movie stars like Winona Ryder and Leonardo Di Caprio start magically popping up in her high school, Sabrina realizes that the situation is quickly spiraling out of control.
I read a selection of 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' books for a trip down nostalgia lane in a YouTube video (complete with as re-creation of the original iconic Sabrina opening): https://youtu.be/GOKZ-IxwX-4
Hilda and Zelda are taking Sabrina to what is essentially a flea market for witches. They have a lot of fun shopping. Sabrina checks out one place and the woman working there offers to sell her a bag of wishdust. Use some of it and even a person without any magic can get what they wish for. (Just how far this goes I don't know. Salem would want to rule the world, that's for sure.)
It turns out that the wishdust has been banned because of how dangerous it actually is. Things don't go well for Sabrina when she has it on her when she goes to school (major bad mistake) and manages to lose it. Can anything go wrong when teenagers end up with dust that can cause their wishes to come true?
Yep. Including having famous Hollywood actors and actresses show up. The book is kept on a funny level, thankfully. Pretty neat story.
I found three of these Sabrina books at a rummage sale (fitting for this title) and I guess nostalgia (and inexpensiveness) made me buy them.
I used to love these when I was the appropriate age for them back in the 90’s. Now… well, it’s a kids book so I knew what I was getting into and it wasn’t the great American novel.
I thought this joke from Mr.Kraft was solid: ’He looked at Mark and said, ”And who is this… Darrin number one or Darrin number two?”
(And Darrin number one was always the best, by the by)
Though I’ll admit that it is kind of a dated joke. Actually it WAS a dated joke even in the 90s so I’m surprised it made its way into a YA book.
My biggest take away from this novel was from the final pages where the publishers advertised some of their other titles and I now, as an adult, find out that there were MOESHA books!? I feel so cheated. I loved Moesha and never knew there were books tied to that series as well. Life before internet shopping was hard guys!
Anyway, this was an easily read distraction while I had to take my dog to the vet, I can’t really rate it, but for a younger audience these are probably still a fun read!
Wow, this book had a lot going on in under 200 pages. Literally Brad Pitt, Neve Campbell, Leo DiCaprio and Winona Ryder had guest appearances. I definitely pictured Melissa Joan Hart as I read and it played out like an episode of the TGIF show, which was nostalgic. However, the magic system is really confusing! All the spells are super specific, need based rhymes? Like, there’s no way there’s a spell book that has ‘Compacts of powder, eye shadow, and rouge, rush into my purse with the speed of a luge,’ right? Maybe I’m missing some world building there jumping in at book 12. There’s like 60 of these.
I loved all of the Sabrina tales full of magic. Every story was a different adventure and some new and exciting challenge to overcome. These books made me want to have magical powers too but the ending results were hilarious.
