If you love Coronation Street, you will love The Little Book of Carla Connor.
This is the latest book by author Glenda Young who is a lifelong Coronation Street fan. She's written a number of Corrie-themed books and they have all be top notch. This is no exception. Ten years ago, the character Carla Connor entered Coronation Street and spent the first few years as one of the show's bitches, edgy and snarly. Over the years, we discovered other sides to Carla and she softened into a very likeable, very strong character who has endured more disasters than most. Carla has had a penchant for self destruction and that's what brought her down in the end as she leaves Weatherfield after 10 years on our screens.
Glenda has captured Carla's 10 years in this wonderful little book, filled with Carla's designer style and snappy comebacks, and highlighting the major storylines, all of Carla's loves and tragedies, triumphs and defeats. Carla is a survivor and though her exit was that of defeat, we have no doubt she will rise to the top again. Thanks to Glenda for giving us Carla in a nutshell. A great book for Corrie fans!
Carla Connor is the modern-day Elsie Tanner of current Coronation Street. The archetypal 'tart with a heart' for the Twitter generation. Corrie pretty much invented this type of raven-haired icon which has long since been familiar with the shows 60-year history.
Carla Connor is currently on her second tenure on the cobbles, and this book, written by Corrie superfan/ Saga author Glenda Young covers Carla's first explosive decade on the soap (which ran from 2006 - 2016) in one continuous narrative. The character was introduced via the wife of Underworld's new owner Paul Connor, and Carla soon swept through the street's men, drinking copious amounts of wine, spending money like it was going out of fashion, and firing knicker stitchers, right, left and centre. Marrying murderers, battling addiction, discovering her paternity and car crashes galore - Carla has had it all thrown at her.
A character that is now long-established on the street had an incredible first decade on this show and Glenda Young covers this with the enthusiasm of a fan and the research skills of an established author.
This is a very good book and one I would recommend to all fans of televisions longest-running drama series.
