Spending time with a dead guy, being interrogated by the cops, and getting stitched up by a cute ER doc weren’t exactly what private investigator Kimberly Murphy had planned for the evening…Especially the part about getting caught standing over a dead body—again. Only this one definitely wasn’t her fault. Being a PI has put Kim into more than a few suspicious situations. This time, though, she may not find a way out.Just once she’d like homicide detective Grant Tompkins not to assume she is guilty. The last time had been self-defense, but she doubted he’d believe her innocence this time. Ignoring her interest in Grant and her family’s strong opinions, Kim agrees to help the victim’s mother and searches for the real killer.Though she’d rather stay away from the case, she has a tarnished reputation to save.To clear her slightly smeared name, Kim does her job and goes after the clever killer. Too bad Kim’s efforts lead to dead ends and even more dead bodies. She will need all her skills and a bit of luck to outwit a murderer who’d like to put an end to Kim’s meddling permanently. If only she hadn’t worn these damn shoes when she may have to run for her life. She can picture her obituary now…Death By High Heels.
I am conflicted about this one. I liked some parts, and didn't like others.
This is a new author to me and I decided I would try a mystery romance read.
While the main mystery storyline is easy to connect with and follow, there was (for me) a bunch of sub plots and twisting in the story that I found distracting. I kept waiting for it to make sense. There were several parts that didn't need to be included, for the main story to work, in my opinion.
Grant and Kim's relationship is him telling her to stop putting herself in danger, and her doing exactly the opposite. A bit annoying. They dance around an attraction and I found their chemistry just so-so.
The mystery part of this read kept me entertained. It was easy to read and I enjoyed the resolution to the drama. I will read book two, and hopefully it is better for me.
Violet Ingram's madcap comedy is wrapped up in so much wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time you'll laugh out loud! Private Investigator, Kim Murphy, laughably related to half the Dayton Police Department, manages to find herself in one compromising spot after another where she finds herself butting heads with sexy hunk Detective Grant Tompkins. When they meet the air sizzles, but the Detective, along with her law enforcement dad and brothers best efforts can't keep Kim from her investigation. Great way to spend an afternoon reading!
Kim is delightful: headstrong but competent. The mystery is complex. The situations are sometimes dire. Most amazing is how oblivious Kim is to Grant's interest.
Action-packed. Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Funny. Great world building. Happily Ever After. Page-turner. Scary. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.
Oh my goodness, I don't know how I missed this author and this book but I am so glad I found her. I absolutely loved thus book. It was one of the best books I have read in a while and had so many twists and turns that one never looses interest. Please do yourself a favor and get this book. I can't wait to read more by my new favorite author.
A delightful read. It's fun, mostly believable, and it's a little uneven in spots. It reminds me of Josie Brown's Assassin Housewife series, where the main character is always having something crazy happen, throw in a little romance with a mostly believable plot, and you have the makings of a fun afternoon read. I'll definitely be reading Violet's next book in the series.
Unfortunately I was not impressed by Death by High Heels. The clever twists one would expect of a book in this genre were simply not there, and I thought the “big reveal” at the end was a little silly. Much of the word count was eaten up by tangents which did little--if anything--to advance the plot. I am not even sure the main character, private investigator Kim Murphy, is in the right line of work; she came across as a bit too ditzy to be a private investigator, to be honest. At least I liked her--I do not think it was for the reasons I was supposed to like her, granted, but she was endearing nonetheless. Veronica Reviewer for Coffee Time Romance & More
I actually really enjoyed this book! It had quite a lot of laugh out loud moments! I love Kim, I think she's hilarious, witty, stubborn and strong willed!! Her family!!! Holy Capone they are brilliant! - sexy, funny, protective! SWOON!!! Well, as for Grant... I love him... Seriously, who wouldn't love him?!?! Kim and Grant's chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS!!! It's extremely well written, making me not want to put the book down! I can't wait to see what else is in store for this series! #2OCCAB
This book has a female private investigator who has a interesting relationship with a police officer. The plot involves a murder, and I don't want to say anything about that part of the story because I'd hate to spoil the story for any reader. The protagonist, Kim Murphy is a quirky character who likely can carry a series
I enjoyed reading about Kim and the situations she finds herself in. She has a sharp wit and I absolutely loved the scenes with her and Grant. Very entertaining story and I look forward to reading more with Kim.
An entertaining and quite funny read where the heroine seems to be prone to find herself in tricky situations with the police, one of which she has sexual fantasies about. An easy reading dialogue means the story line flows easily without need for padding out. Very enjoyable light hearted read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! This is my new favorite book series!! There was just the right amount of humor, action, romance and a good plot. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
