Shy Elliott is the daughter to one of the most prominent leaders in Jacksonville, Florida. After having her daughter at the tender age of 18, her father tried forcing her into marrying her high school sweetheart Ahmod. Ten years later Ahmod is not as sweet as he once was in high school. Shy is very close to her mother and sister but she keeps certain things from them to keep peace in her home and family life. With her father standards so high for his daughters she tends to just hide from the world until she feels that she is worthy enough to be a preacher’s kid. From her father’s rejection and the rejection of Ahmod, she finally finds the courage to leave him and run into the arms of another man. Ahmod wants his cake and eat it too. With two women in his pocket he feels like he would never get caught. When both of the women leave him, he becomes lost. Once Ahmod finds out Shy is fully done with him he tries his best to run back but is it too late? Ahmod doesn’t think so until it’s really too late.
This was a very good read, and the title definitely fits the storyline. Poor Shy was damaged in more ways than one. Ahmod really messed her up mentally and physically. I'm glad that she found dome happiness with Dee. I felt really bad for Reeci. I'm glad that Shys dad finally came around. However, the real kicker of the story is what Ahmod did to himself. I did not see that coming. The saying goes that you reap what you sew, and in his case, he definitely did. Great job Jenica, and I look forward to readind your next read.
Well written with good message. . I felt bad for Reece, she was a good person caught up like Shy. The Bishop's attitude was something to contend with..Shaunie, she kept it real. Good storyline & interesting characters. I thought this story touched on several good issues & was a pleasure to read!
Finished in a few hours could not put it down. Real down to earth true life romance. Many young people are today living thus lifestyle. Wonderful! Cant wait to read book 2
Wow. Poor Shy. Her father has too much hate in him. It's sad. I really didn't realize his unstable Ahmod was. Wow! This is the first book I read by this author and she has me hooked. 'Heaven between her thighs' got me here.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This author just have me glued to every character. I never been so captivated reading a book. I read 2 of her books I. 2 days. Can’t wait til I get part 2
There are happy endings, but a lot of adversity to get to it.
I was so afraid for Shy through most of the book because most often we as women get stuck in a rut. When you add children to the equation, the rut seems never-ending, but thankfully there are praying mothers.
Jenica, good job depicting what many beautifully battered single mothers go through. Yes, we do stay thinking no one else will want us or to keep up appearances, but once you realize your own strength God does restore.
I am not certain I would have had the heart to stay with Dee, but that's where your wisdom shines, because ultimately it's about forgiveness and redemption.
We cannot expect the Father to show us these things and we don't demonstrate them in our daily lives.
Shy was determined to make her relationship work just to appease her father. Ahmod's mind was greased in the other direction. Ahmod lived with so many lies and didn't realize that sooner or later you reap what you sow.
Shy's father was was so disappointed in his daughters. He couldn't see past the fact that the lack of love for them is what proves to be his downfall.
Thank God for a praying mother! She held on to get husband and faithless daughters to the end.
Deshawn came just in time to save Shy from hopelessness. I applaud Shy for attempting to become her own woman.
This story brings a really good message to when a person gets tired of being abuse and finds strength to redeem themselves. Amond is triflin and Selfish. He figured that since he and Shy had so much history he would be around forever. Yet having kids with someone doesn't mean you have to stay together. Reeci was caught up in a bitter situation but she finally came to realization it was for her. Da'shawn came at a great time although I thought their relationship moved too fast. That death was unexpected tho,the kids were the ones would really suffer. All in all the story was pretty good.
This story was so good that I did not want it to end, I want more of De'Shawn and Shy. Jenica, I know there are more stories to tell with these characters. I see a storyline where De'Shawn's ex comes back and tries to cause havoc. Yes, I definitely see a part 2, 3 and 4. Part 2: continuation of De'Shawn and Shy's story, part 3: Shaunie's story and part 4: Reeci's story. Just giving the author a few hints.
Ahmod put Shy through so much. I was so happy when she finally got tired of him. Reeci to me was struck on stupid but the heart want what the heart wants. De' Shawn was one of a kind. That daddy got on my nerve with his holy than thou attitude. I was happy that Shy finally got what she deserved
This was an excellent book. I gave it three stars on Amazon because it was in serious need of editing. I don't know if this editing issue was unique to the e-version I read, but the author needs to ensure that published versions don't damage their work. That being said, I am a true fan of Jenica Johnson and still recommend this book. It deals with real life issues and carries a heavy message.
This was a good book. The title fit the story perfectly. I was glad Shy realized she was worth more than what she was getting from Ahmod. It took him to lose her to see his faults. Ell laid his cards on the table, and was able to get over his anger.
The storyline good; the Jacksonville references were accurate but the charActers were underdeveloped almost like it was the 2nd book in a series. The editing and proofreading was poorly executed, I suggest making this a series for a better book.
This was a good story basically. There was a lot going on the characters where all believable. Unfortunately I have never read a book with so many typos and mistakes whole words missing. Misspellings.
Shy pulled the Tina Turner on Ahmod (Ike) a**. Shy was so strong Could not stand Ahmod I wanted De'Shawn to whop that a**. Her daddy tho... He knew... De'Shawn was a blessings so happy for them Proverbs 18:22
This book was so amazing! If you have a chance you should read it. In some aspects I could relate to Shy and it was heartbreaking. But I'm thankful that she was able to move on because some don't have the opportunity!
This book got me so emotional, this book hit close to home minus the abuse. I love her books cause it's always a message behind it. Men don't know how good they have it until he lose it all. I recommend you read this book and tell a friend.
Shy finally put herself first. Dee came and showed her what love was. Ahmod knew he was really in love with Shy and didn't know how to show it. Reeci was wrong after she found at that he had a family
I loved the way the story flowed. Ahmod was a selfish man. He had it all, a beautiful family, but he wanted more. His wife Shy put up with a lot of mess and allowed her daughter to witness and live in that mess. Great ending and I am happy that it was just one book.
Minus the grammatical errors and the mix up in characters toward the end it was a good book. I think had it been proofed a little better it would have flowed a little better. I never would have it would have ended like it did.
I enjoyed reading this book, Shy was a very strong woman once she had had enough!!! I love how she gave each character it own point of view and was especially happy the two women weren't fighting over this crazy man!!!! I loved the ending
Great story line but I couldn't get past all the typos, grammatical errors and misspellings! I couldn't wait to finish the book. I don't think I want to read any other books by this author. Is it just the Kindle version with the errors?
This was my first time reading a book by this author and definitely will not be my last time. I truly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Great job.
