Beyond Judgment, the third in the series, sees hero Jake Bronson at the mercy of his hidden past.
After waking up with amnesia from a six-year coma, Jake Bronson’s past is lost to him. But that doesn’t mean the past hasn’t been looking for him—or that it will let him live when it finally catches up. Jake’s placid, anonymous life in Italy is shattered by the arrival of an assassination squad hell-bent on eliminating him—and he has no idea why he’s in their crosshairs. He’s saved only when an American scientist intervenes, wielding strange technology that briefly reactivates Jake’s dormant memories and deadly skills. As unknown enemies continue to hound Jake’s every step, the scientist helps him reconnect with lost friends and loved ones who believed him long dead.
Any happy reunion is forfeit, though, as Jake’s murky history and mysterious talents conceal a terrible secret that—should it fall into the wrong hands—could trigger the extinction of the human race. Averting this apocalypse means Jake must risk everything to reawaken his true self and stop an ancient order from unleashing humanity’s ultimate judgment.
Richard Bard draws on his own experiences as a former USAF pilot and cancer survivor to craft compelling characters who risk it all for love and loyalty. Born in Munich, Germany, to American parents, he joined the United States Air Force like his father. But he left the service when he was diagnosed with cancer and learned he had only months to live. He earned a management degree from the University of Notre Dame and ran three successful companies involving advanced security products used by US embassies and governments worldwide. Now a full-time writer, he lives in Redondo Beach, California, with his wife and remains in excellent health.
Jake Bronson doesn't know who he is. Suffering from amnesia Jake doesn't know that his life is in danger, that everyone's life is in danger, until assassins come knocking on his door and ruin the quiet serene life he thought he knew. But as they try to hunt him, his hidden abilities unleash making him as formidable as a man with all his memories. And as he struggles to discover the truth behind the assassins he discovers that his life hasn't always been so quiet and that the world is in danger and that the worlds only hope lies in his locked memories.
In Beyond Judgment we are quickly swept back up in the dangerous world that Jake has been traveling the last six years. It killed me to see Jake with amnesia, but we get a brief glimpse into what Jake's life could have been like if he never had the accident in the MRI machine all those years ago, but it isn't long before Richard Bard reminds us of the deadly world that Jake really comes from. And once the action starts, it never stops! And I'm not complaining and neither will you.
Jake has been through hell over the last six years. From almost dying from brain cancer, to discovering his new abilities, to unleashing the first pyramid, to being one of the most hunted men in the world, it seems that Jake can never catch a break. But of course he takes it in stride and is always quick to step in harms way to save not only his loved ones but the lives of the innocent, not even amnesia can change these feelings as they are deeply embedded in his moral being. Jake is one of those characters that is easy to love, he never gives up, he is smart as a whip, and deadly as a snake!
I loved the way that Richard Bard wrote this book. It was like getting to know Jake and his friends all over again. As Jake learned about his life, I learned about his life and got to relive those moments with him. It was almost like discovering Jake Bronson for the first time and it was wonderful! I love it when a book reinvigorates your joy and love for a character and that's what Beyond Judgment did for me. Plus it gave me some pretty awesome new characters to love, but I can't tell you who. I can tell you that you won't be disappointed.
But not only did it remind me of why I love Jake, it reminded me of why I love all of his friends, espcially Marshall, Tony, and Ahmed. Throughout the series we have seen this group go through hell, all while trying to live as normal a life as possible, but they are constantly reminded of the danger that is always lurking. Each character plays a pivotal role in the story that is Jake's and I loved each and every one of them, the old and the new!
Of course it wouldn't be a Brainrush novel if we didn't talk about the action. And boy was there action, from start to finish Beyond Judgment sweeps you up in a world so full of action that it will have you feeling like you are in the middle of an action flick! Every moment was so real and believable that I had to remind myself that it was actually all in a book!
This book really has it all. Non-stop action, laughs, mystery, suspense, great characters, and of course adventure. Richard Bard does not disappoint with the third installment in the Brainrush series, giving us a novel with a story that will quickly sweep you away, giving you quite the thrill ride.....or Rush!
I love Richard Bard's Brainrush series. Inventive, fun, action packed. I know action/adventure isn't usually the default for most women readers but his work is unique in that he writes women, children and friendships so well. I love the human element and the incredible premise. Start with Book #1 and work your way through.
Part high-tech commando part science fiction but never boring. With the science fiction element and the high-tech gear this reads like a Hollywood action film. The characters are well written with the exception of our lead bad guy who speaks German and has a pet cat does that sound cliche to you?
The first two books by this author Richard Bard (BRAINRUSH I and BRAINRUSH II) are absolutely MUST read books! There are so many twists and turns in both of these books that you'll find yourself hooked after you've read the first page in BRAINRUSH i. I cannot see how you could possibly be disappointed with either of those books.
BEYOND JUDGMENT is the third in the sequence and I'm positive that the twists and turns that I found so attractive and spell binding in the first books will be in this third book.
I CREATED A PREVIOUS REVIEW AND TO MY HORROR, I GAVE IT THE INCORRECT NUMBER OF STARS. IT WAS MY INTENT TO GIVE THIS BOOK 5 STARS. SINCE I CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO EDIT MY PREVIOUS REVIEW, PLEASE, PLEASE IGNORE IT!
Judgement Comes. This was the third entry into this series, but because of the way it does a soft retcon of the primary character, this *could* serve as an alternate entry point into the series. Not that I recommend that, but it *could* be done. Excellent third chapter of the story, looking forward to what is next.
The Brainrush series has been my favorite series - in, oh I don't know how many years. I tend to like stand-alone books but this series of books are some of my favorite action thrillers...ever.
I read the first two books recently - "BRAINRUSH: (Book One)" and "The Enemy of My Enemy (Brainrush 2)." Action, paranormal thrills, great in-depth characters. So I was very excited to get an Advanced Reading Copy of "Brainrush 3: Beyond Judgement."
This book starts out six years after the ending of book two. Protagonist Jake Bronson was in a coma and when he came out of it, he had lost his memory (and that's a lot of things to forget). Because of this memory lapse, it took ME a while at the beginning of the book to get wrapped back up in the story again. But once I figured out what the author had done with Jake, the roller coaster ride was on again.
Short chapters lend themselves to a lightning speed read, with our characters going from Italy to Switzerland to a tropical island in the Banda Sea this time around. And the locations are described in detail by the author. I definitely now want to visit Venice.
There's not as much paranormal activity in this book, which I missed. There is more time given to Jake's autistic children, which I loved. There are still rough-tough soldiers, techno toys, geeks, damsels in distress, another dastardly villain, and more tight spaces to trigger my claustrophobia as in the other two
I received this in the mail yesterday and stayed up all night to finish it. It's that good. I would suggest you read the first two books if you haven't so you get the backstory. And then get this one when it comes out in July. You won't be disappointed.
So far this 3rd book in the Brainrush series is very enjoyable and a good read. I won an advanced copy of this book so can give a honest review in my opinion. Mr Bard does a great job in bringing you into the story with pieces of history of the first two books to bring you back into the events and character of the story. The novel evolves well and there is plenty of action to keep you up late at night to find what happens next, it helps to have read the previous books in this series but it is written good enough that you can put it together as you read through the book. It is fiction and reaches out there with its story line but so did Jules Verne and look how much of his imagination has come to be. I am not going to tell you the story details for you need to read this book but it is a wild ride and once you get towards the ending it will thrill you and reach your emotions. Will there be a Brainrush IV?
Richard Bard is an evolving writer and has great ability and potential. If you like Clive Cussler, James Rollins and Dan Brown you will like Richard Bard! When it becomes available in July pick it up you will enjoy it.
A diabolical German psychopath is the latest in a 1000 year preparation for the alien apocalypse. Judgement Day will erase most of humanity from the planet’s surface while the privileged elite will hide out in an underground bunker on a cloaked island, far from the destruction that they have orchestrated.
Jake and his team discover the secrets behind the mysterious pyramids and then it’s nonstop action as the German and his collection of privileged accomplices try to 1. Kill Jake and his friends, 2. Rush to the island and their cache of champagne 3. Bait the aliens into destroying the rest of humanity.
As long as you don’t think too hard about the whole thing, this is a high energy, fast paced action thriller.
If you do think about it you might wonder why the aliens would care, how the Germans would think they were the good guys, why Jake and his team would think they are the good guys? How would the people on the island, if they did indeed survive alien actions and the nukes the Germans unleashed, feed and clothe themselves with all the workers eradicated? How would they conceal their actions from the aliens, who seemed to be aware of whatever the humans were doing.
Also, we never meet the aliens. We never find out where they came from or what they looked like or what their interest in the Earth was.
Jake had been gifted with amazing powers in book one. But by this book, his powers are inconsistent for no apparent reason. Sometimes he had speed, sometimes he was empathic and sometimes he was a regular guy.
I have been reading all his books. I'm re reading them again for the second time. This is a series of non stop thriller page after page. I can't put one book down until I find the next one in the series. These books have a twist of family honor & those that choose too protect the ones they love & our world as we think we know it. His knowledge of the most tactical arsenal we have flabbergasted me & unbelievable truth we might be headed toward. Any one who needs to read a fast paste never knowing where what could happen to the characters & there are worthy to keep this series going . Please reload read these again. Its worth too read again as a thriller suspense & love of family friends first. An awesome read if you like the top authors on Kindle & believe me its worth the read can't put the the books down.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of the trilogy of this series.
The 3 stories of this set are intense and action-packed, with s grest story line that is multi layered, looking at different events in the same timeline, through different characters eyes. The normal good versus bad scenarios, is not new, and a James Bond or Bruce Willis feel is not without true intent from the author, I am sure. However, the leadership of one man, changed by fate, with a small, very talented group of friends and allies, to go up against incredible odds, is what makes these stories memorable.
I choose this book (series ) because it tickled my imagination for science fiction, mystery, and romance. It was fast paced and exciting. I could read this to someone and help them to relate this to their everyday life without being mushy, mushy. The story encourage you to have hope and fight against injustice dispite the odds. Recommend to everyone. Evelyn50
This book continues Jake's story. Richard Bard is a creative genius. His books are full of energy and once you start reading, you won't put the book down. I won't give away the plot in this review. Buy the book. It's worth the money and you will truly enjoy it.
This third book in the Brainrush series is another excellent read. It starts out with Jake having amnesia, and takes us on a thrill ride until the end. This is such a fast-paced series and I look forward to reading the next installment!
These books were incredible! Received the first free and quickly read and bought all the others, the old standby of, I couldn't put them down holds true! Great character development, a little bit of every scenario you can imagine, incredibly fun read!!!!
Credibility-stretching in every way as well as drawing elements from many genres, yet it works well. Definitely recommend this series. Now, I am off to buy the next book...
Still Boy's Own type of story, but a huge improvement on the second book. I doubt I will read anymore - Jake needs a break, his family needs a break and so do I!
I read the first two books in this series and loved them both. They were both 5 star books too. This book, which I waited over a year to get, was just as good if not even better. I enjoyed it from the first word to the very end. Jake awoke from a six year coma and had no idea who he was. Then he started having to run again from people that he had no idea why they were after him. He had all of his speed and strength but had no idea where it came from. He was not suppose to remember who he was to keep the ones that he loved safe but that was not to happen. He makes his way to Venice where his old friends and family are at the wedding of his friend Marshall and Lacey but they didn't get a chance to finish the ceremony.. They were all shocked to see Jake who was going by the name Lorenzo Ferrari. He met his son, who was Autistic, for the first time and the connection between them was so strong. The boy knew that his father was around before he ever appeared to them. It was not to be a big reunion though as they had to get right back to running from some terrible men and saving the world this time. It was such a good story and the way that Jake and his son could communicate without saying a word was so touching. Jake was still being controlled though by a crazed maniac who was going to end the world and only a few people would be spared, but Jake with the help of the team worked together and... to find out what happens you will have to read this book for yourself. I can't give anything away. I do hope that there will be a Brainrush 4 book and have heard talk of a possible movie. That would be the best. I loved this book and even though I waited so long to get it I was able to jump right in and remember everything that had happened before and loved this book just as much as the others. The Brainrush series is a wonderful story and I can't imagine anyone NOT LOVING every single book. They got better with each book. Richard Bard is a wonderful author and did a great job with this series. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next. I have found another great author. Congratulations Richard for such a wonderful series and this third book was truly awesome. Your number 1 fan always and forever.
I was a little apprehensive about writing a review for this book as it “appeared” to be in the science fiction genre, which I hate to admit is not one of my favorites. However, after reading “Beyond Judgment,” I can honestly say that it’s part science fiction, part thriller, part suspense, part love story, and part mystery. It’s got it all and that’s what makes this novel one of the best. Jake Bronson is suffering from coma-induced amnesia and for the life of him, cannot figure out why people are trying to kill him. He doesn’t know who he is, but somebody out there does, and they want Jake dead. He is enjoying his day in beautiful Italy, sketching a drawing of a lady he does not know, when he sees them. He tries to finish his sketch, but he can’t, the eyes are just not right. His model’s eyes are a beautiful sky blue, but all he sees is a liquid chocolate color. Whose eyes are they and why can’t he get them out of his head? Now running for his life and not knowing why, he unwittingly crashes a lavish outdoor wedding, complete with bride and groom arriving on gondolas. All he can do is run. The wedding party, family, and guests are all stunned, but try to proceed with the festivities. They can’t. The sudden rush of people with guns all around them causes Alex, a child with autism, to beg his mother to read his mind. He has to tell her something…but he can’t speak. A psychopath obsessed with creating a new Order is close to accomplishing his goal. His plan to wipe out the world and start a new peaceful world with those of his choosing is close at hand. Unfortunately, he needs Jake and he is the only person on earth who can communicate, via the pyramids, with the life forces in outer space. Without Jake, his plan will fail and that is just not an option. A superb novel. Reviewed by Sherri Nemick for Suspense Magazine
Come on, Richard. That's all you got? I think you realize yourself that this Jack guy is just a Bruce Willis character. One man against a throng. Not only survives but over-kills. How many times the one-out-of-a-million thing happen in this story I cannot remember. 'Hell, I have no options!''But I have to win!''Wait, what's this?"(usually something too lucky for the hero to use'' and he wins.
I am not sure about this, maybe this is typical American novels just like those typical American movies. After reading this last piece, I am considering to remove this how genre out of my favorite. Can it be more narcissism?
[Spoil] -A thousand years preparation? For what? How to? How do they know? Just Ridiculous. Not to mention that not even one heir in this a-thousand-year acts like normal people? Just enjoy the wealth and do what usual rich people do after killing his nut dad?
-Jack's son plays such an important role in this whole story. I agree he has his farther's blood but what about his mother? Unbelievable.
-I have to, again, mock those settings that a handful of people infiltrate a base which has been prepared for decades? It's like shoot a plane down with a pistol, with one shot. And the plane is attacking back. Of course, no one gets hurt except those guys designed to be. The men in this die-hard group can just jump to whatever height with a limp left leg and a knife stabbed in the right.
I found this book not only to be engaging but also to have a strong relationship tie between Father and Son that grows throughout the book. The reason I bring this one piece up specifically is because I was not feeling the relationship between some of the other characters in the story line. It was making it feel empty at certain times in the middle of the book but the (no spoilers here) ending had a significant impact with a relationship that did develop and had a surprise as to that connection and where the plot went from there. It was not a predictable ending for sure, it kept me guessing as to what was next. I really enjoyed this read, I do recommend it. Richard Bard did a fine job in keeping the action going. The only thing (however very small) is that the chapters were sometimes only a page or two at certain points. Every time the scene changed, it was a new chapter where as I felt many times the action belonged in the same chapter just as a generalized subplot line of that same chapter. Every time I had a short chapter, I felt I needed to reevaluate if I should continue or not depending on remaining time I had to read and made the thought process for me stop if it was in the middle of an action scene which was many times. This was nothing that I took a star from on the book, just my quirkiness I guess... :-)
I love this series! While it's way off the reality charts, the characters are fun and the action intense. Always leaves me looking forward to the next Jake Bronson adventure.
The conclusion of the "Brainrush" trilogy finds our hero Jake Bronson back in Italy relaxing at a cafe sketching a woman who reminds him of someone. He can't remember her nor can her remember anything beyond four months prior when he woke speaking nothing but Italian and rehabilitating muscles nearly atrophied after six years in a coma. His friends all think he died after the final conflict with Battista when he blasted the terrorist in the jungles of Venezuela with one of his own thermonuclear devices. All he knows is that someone has given him a piece of paper that tells him to remain anonymous as possible. Or people may die. But this is Jake Bronson. People are going to die. And they do. The first casualty is the woman he's sketching. He's chased by a professional hit team who have German accents. Actually, they're Swiss. But certainly ominous. Bronson's on their radar because of his ability to trigger these alien pyramids that have the power to judge mankind's fate. In fact, these folks make Battista look like a third-rate pickpocket in downtown Fresno. They're a secret society awaiting judgement day and led by a serious psycho who killed his father just to make the old man proud.
