Who wouldn't fall for a hot British rugby player with a sexy accent?!?!?!
~~~I received an ARC of Offside by Abbey Foxx for an honest review!~~~
This is the freshman book of a new author, and to be honest it showed though not as defined as other new authors I've read. But I'd have to say that this author has potential. With that said...
Jasper was a rugby hottie banned for a year for threatening to kill a member of the paparazzi. Jasper loves two things: rugby and women!!! But with this ban looming over him, at least one of his favorite is on hold. So he has to reluctantly accept the only viable deal...go to America and play football!! Problem is, he knows absolutely nothing about American football, and is not very happy being sent to the middle of nowhere America!!! His prospects change in the form of Penny!!
Penny works for her dad who owns an NFL team in Arkansas. She talked her dad into bringing Jasper to the Moxlin Tigers to help with their losing team. She is engaged to quarterback, Christopher aka Topher. She seems to be naïve and subservient as she puts up with Topher’s cheating and lack of affection, but she is in no way a pushover. All it takes is her eyes to be finally opened for her kickass attitude to take over, and boy does she ever.
The obstacles Penny and Jasper have are minor compared to other hero/heroines, but dealing with a father - who can not accept his little girl is old enough to make her own decisions, and who can not pull his head out of his ass long enough to see that he is letting his beloved team run themselves into the ground – can be one of the biggest struggles, especially when the father is so stubborn!!
I have to say I loved Penny and Jasper!!! Their banter, their stupid jokes, their chemistry, and especially when they finally get together!! I just love their connection and desire to do what they need to do to be together.
There were a few moments where I had to re-read certain passages to understand what was being said by whom, exactly, and there are a few editing and spelling errors, but I was very impressed by the quality of Abbey Foxx's debut novel. I can forgive the errors cause I was reading an ARC, and just hope they were caught and changed before the book was published. This is a book with MATURE content for MATURE audiences.
