Resisting the Billionaire

Rate this book
The last thing Cora Branton wanted was the attention of her new boss.

I had enough on my plate.
When my mom got sick, I dropped out of school to take care of her.
When she died eight months ago, I became the sole guardian of my teenage brother, Marcus.
My job as a lowly secretary– ahem... excuse me– administrative assistant was tedious, but it paid the bills and put a roof over our heads. We were surviving.

When I corrected an error on a contract, I didn't expect to draw the notice of the billionaire CEO, Jake Weston.
I didn't want to be promoted to be the arrogant playboy's executive assistant. Nobody had held the position for more than four weeks and I wasn't sure I would last long with His Exaltedness.

Only nothing was what I had expected. Not the job. Not the man. Not my feelings.

Resisting the Billionaire is the first of the Weston Brothers series, but can be read as a standalone. It is a steamy, fun read with a guaranteed HEA.
Most of the story is told from Cora's POV, but don't worry, Jake will make his feelings known.

I write what I like to read, which is sexy and sweet books with no cheating, not cliffhangers, and guaranteed HEAs.

I live in sunny California next to the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

If I'm not writing, I'm reading. I read everything. Anything.

I'm a pretty extreme introvert so you won't find me on social media. But I welcome readers to connect with me here on Goodreads or via email or via my blog (which I sadly neglect).

Resisting the Billionaire is written in a way that reminded me of the old school contemporary romances penned by Judith McNaught, Lori Foster and Carly Phillip. It's simple and straight to the point with an emphasis on the romance between the hero and heroine. To be honest, I actually prefer these more times than not.

Although the story took place in about a month's time, there was no insta love. This story was a slow burn romance. It took time for the heat (and passion and commitment) to kick in. Cora and Jake actually didn't have a sexual relationship until 60% of the story. Don't worry, however, because there was a good amount of entertainment and some sexual tension to tide you over until then.

What I liked about this story was that I got to witness a blossoming romance without all the sex beforehand. Don't get me wrong, I'm no prude and I love erotic sex in my romance reads, but sometimes I just want a good ol' fashion romance story that focuses on the emotional relationship of a couple as opposed to a physical one in the start of their relationship. I'm a moody reader and sometimes I just want a lighthearted romantic story where it's not drowned in sex and this story provided that.

As for the characters, I enjoyed them. I liked that Cora was confident in her own skin and proud of her curves. I'm getting sick of the heroines with body image issues where all they do is whine about how they look and their weight and insecure that they don't look like the model type that the hero dates. At first, Cora did have this thinking, but it was brief and she got over it. I also liked that Cora didn't give into Jake's advances immediately. In addition, I enjoyed the push and pull of their relationship at the beginning. Cora was strong and independent with a bit of sass. I liked that she stood up for herself, but was glad when she realized that it was OK to let go of your pride and let those who love you help you too.

As for Jake, he wasn't OTT alpha, but he did carry traits which I liked. He was loving, caring and sexy with a jealousy streak who fought for Cora despite when she had doubts about their relationship. I also enjoyed the secondary characters Troy, Jamie, Marcus and Jake & Troy's parents. I'm highly interested in Jake's brother, Troy, and hope that he'll get his own story and HEA. As for the ending, there was an epilogue provided which took place 2 years later and was a sweet ending. I would have liked to see if Jake got his wish for two boys and one girl or vice versa. It would have been amusing to know if it was two girls and one boy as I can imagine him with his shot gun when his daughters starts dating, knowing how protective he is.

Now onto some of the issues I had with the book. Unfortunately, I found several proofreading/grammatical errors which didn't deter me from the story completely, but was still enough to make me frown. Also, I expected more of a bigger conflict/climax or misunderstanding in the story, but that didn't happen so that was a bit of a letdown. I was looking forward to some form of groveling as well. Everything that happened was too clean and the conflict at the end was resolved too quickly and easily. I would have liked for it to be drawn out some more.

Overall, Resisting the Billionaire was an engaging solid read that entertained me throughout despite the minor issues that I had with it. This story is what I would consider a safe and comfort read as it doesn't involve anything heavy or angsty. Resisting the Billionaire is a lighthearted, contemporary romantic read with dashes of humor and sexiness thrown in which I think many romance readers will enjoy.

I loved it. Not exactly insta-love between the main characters but pretty close. I loved Jake's pursuit of Cora. *sigh*

He knew exactly what he wanted.

The storyline was pretty intresting. Somehow it managed to take my sleeping hours because it was worth to read. I loved both hero and heroine . Their personalities was very sweet, honest. I wished this book was a little longer 'cuz It was fast paced. It's sweet, romantic, simple, enjoyably contemporary romance. Ms.Snow, you are wonderful and developing author. I would love to read your next books. Goodluck.

Good story, the h was sometimes a little bonehead but she didn't blow the story.
Super sexy H and the love scenes were smoking.

Wish for a bit more in the epilogue but a worthy story. Most from h's perspective but about 3 chapter from the H.

Ok so if you are looking for a book with a extremelyyyyyyyyyy handsome and charming male character and a modest female character, then this is the best 'est' book. Sex, over possessivness , a little male dominance (honestly not much ) , it has everything. The author has given a sharp and a deep description of everything which is mindblowing. I can guarantee that you will have a arousal too while reading this book😉. Its actually sweet so go for it. (Don't forget to read part2 TRUSTING THE BILLIONAIRE)

It’s just a contemporary romance . Nothing deep . All’s just in the surface . Nothing too serious though . I actually didn’t like he fact that there was no qurelle between the protagonists

This book is a masterclass at manipulation, and the whole boss and assistant power play is just so icky to be. The story was boring, the characters where boring.
The scene with the mother just rubbed me the wrong way you don't convince a person especially in a relationship with confusion. And the fact that he got her into a top university with money and contact was just the last straw for me. I mean we're constantly told how smart she is so why doesn't she just apply like a normal person??

This book is about rich hot white guy savior sprinkled in with I'm so plain why is he with me complex.
Wouldn't recommend for anyone

A wonderful new tale on a much discussed topic of steamy office romances....

Though the plot was somewhat predictable, the author introduced some quirky and funny moments to revolutionize the story. Especially the characters were refreshing to read about. Cora with her adorable flustered demeanor and also her adorable habit of saying eeps! And her transformation in the last segment of the novel into a confidant woman and demanding to clear her name, makes her different from other heroines written in the same plot.
But, the best aspect of the novel was the hero, who in-spite of being a little smug, came across as a like-able human being with a hilarious, but envious bonding with his family. Also, his tenacity, and trust in Cora even in shallow waters, his respect and admiration of her and, their relationship, puts him in high regard with the readers.
The other characters starting from Jamie, to Troy as well as Jake's parents adds to a fun filled recipe in this feel good novel.
Again, the subplot of the novel dealing with theme of sibling bonding and the highs and lows of a brother- sister relationship is sure to resonate with a lot of readers.
Also, with the inclusion of sizzling passionate scenes and a lovely epilogue, this tale becomes a winner!

There wasn't really much happening throughout the book. The story line was pretty dull. I wish there had been more than one POV, so I knew what was going on in the Hero's head. The heroine was just sot of blah for me as were the sex scenes. The H was a mini-alpha in my opinion and the h was pretty easily won over with her heels were only a little dug in on certain matters. All-in-all not a bad book and I am going to go ahead and read the next book in the series, because sometimes an easy read with very little turmoil is cleansing esp. after reading an intense book like Twist Me by Anna Zaires.

I absolutely loved the story! I loved all the characters and found the story to be very sweet. It wasn't over the top or to predictable. There was some funny moments and it was overall a very enjoyable story. The only reason it wasn't five stars was because I would've enjoyed a longer story with a longer relationship timeline and more details on how their relationship progressed. They had a very whirlwind romance and those aren't my favorite. Still I recommend this for anyone just wanting a nice read or in a book slump.

such a lovely story !!!
the hero and the heroine didn't have much problems besides her stubbornness ...
the story was a little realistic , I mean you wouldn't be shocked to hear such a story actually happened :
cora was taking care of her little brother since their parents are dead and jake was her boss , he liked how smart and beautiful she was and he fel for her but she wouldn't submit to his advances and of course he didn't step back , not until she agreed to date him , they were lovely together and at the end he proposed to her <3

I guess I can consider this a fun read over-all, but I had a major problem in connecting with the characters individually. Also, Jake and Cora's relationship felt too fast-paced for me.

2 stars for this quick read!

Very fast, light reading. I shed some tears reading this one. Couldn't put it up last night to go to sleep but the story was too predictable, like I read it before.
