Together again for the first time, the Emerald Archer meets Black Canary. Questioning everything Green Arrow believes in, Dinah Lance throws the hero's world upside down, forcing him to question what he cares about more: his morals or his money?
BULL'S-EYE: "Readers are aching for the reunion of Green Arrow and Black Canary, and we're finally going to give it to them." says writer Benjamin Percy. "Also returning? Green Arrow's goatee."
Benjamin Percy is the author of seven novels -- most recently The Sky Vault (William Morrow) -- three short fiction collections, and a book of essays, Thrill Me, that is widely taught in creative writing classrooms. He writes Wolverine, X-Force, and Ghost Rider for Marvel Comics. His fiction and nonfiction have been published in Esquire (where he is a contributing editor), GQ, Time, Men's Journal, Outside, the Wall Street Journal, Tin House, and the Paris Review. His honors include an NEA fellowship, the Whiting Writer's Award, the Plimpton Prize, two Pushcart Prizes, the iHeart Radio Award for Best Scripted Podcast, and inclusion in Best American Short Stories and Best American Comics.
Really thought this was one of the better Rebirth issues. What's so exciting about this? Dinah & Oliver!<--FINALLLY!
I've missed those guys being together. Oliver just isn't as cool without Dinah, you know? They both sort of play off of each other, and you end up with something better than two solo heroes. Or at least that's the way I feel.
I also loved that they brought back the phrase Social Justice Warrior in this. Ollie has always (in my opinion) been less of a badass killer and more of an eco-warrior. He was always the liberal voice of the Justice League to me, and even if I didn't always agree with him, I loved him for it.
The story is that these two meet up while trying to help a kid on the streets, and then team up to take down some sort of underground slavery ring.
The plot was sort of weak, mainly because the bad guys looked like cheap Nosferatu knock-offs. And while it wasn't terribly fresh or original, it was passable enough for an intro comic.
If you were deliriously happy with the New 52 version of Green Arrow, then you might not get that warm n' fuzzy feeling when you read this, so take that into consideration before making your purchase. Me? I'm just happy to see Black Canary & Green arrow sparring again!
Damn. That was awesome. Benjamin Percy writes a great crime story similar to, but with more humor than, Jeff Lemire. And Otto Schmidt's illustrations and colors are incredible, like a bright pastel version of Patrick Gleason. Totally picking up Volume 1.
I'm I quite like this, actually. It's surprising because I've never been a big Green Arrow fan. I couldn't get past the first three eps of the CW show and he never interested me that much when he popped up in other comics I've read.
Here, he's a really sweet guy. He's just trying to protect the people in his city and he looks like a badass while doing it. I'm definitely intrigued.
As for Dinah, I don't really like this version of her that much. It seems so odd to me that she'd make a dig about Ollie "abandoning" Speedy and make such a callous remark about his heroine addiction. Then again, she's a bit off characterization wise in that dreadful Batgirl and the BOP comic, too.
"I PREFER THE JOB DESCRIPTION OF SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRIOR"
I normally don't review individual issue of comics, however this one deserved the extra attention.
Continuity was awful- which is to say the plot does not flow well by explaining itself naturally. Instead we are left to just accept and follow random events that do now flow or sync together while buzzwords are forced into awkward conversations.
Perhaps my first mistake was becoming excited for this. That is all washed away on the very first page. Green Arrow is reintroduction was very cringe inducing. There is no subtlety as the author forces political dialog into the most improbable of scenarios.
This lack of discovery carries through the rest of the issue which takes the joy out reading. The whole issue seems like a self serving political cartoon. Each point is explicitly stated in such awkward points- half the dialog could be removed, while the art plays almost no role in story telling... the entire product could of been reduced to a tumblr post or the typical buzzfeed talking points.
Expanding off that I will explain what I personally disliked it. The crude characterchures of heartless Republicans has become far too trite. Oliver Queen as a white knighting neckbeard who Robin Hoods for the responsible, loving homeless parent sporting "kill fascists" regalia.
This feel like a crummy Marvel comic. I farvored DC cause I thought they would spare me such invasive liberal preaching or at least contain their bias. This was neither though provoking, or well done. I haven't been this let down since I was recommoneded Civil War
There is little to enjoy unless you're looking to experience a neckbearded wet dream.
Reflecting on the issue adds to the disappointment given how well The Arrow (TV show) has been, and how they marginalized such an important issues as child abuse and human trafficking. There is no reason why the Green Arrow couldn't or shouldn't be able to carry this message- however this botch makes me feel like it is best left for the Wayne Foundation.
This is the strongest of the Rebirth one-shot comics I've read so far. Green Arrow is a self-proclaimed social justice warrior and he does not shy away from being a bleeding heart liberal. I actually quite like this aspect of Green Arrow. He should be a SJW. He has the means and ability to protect those that aren't protected and I like that about this beginning. Black Cannery is going to be a great counter to Green Arrow and I'm looking forward to their relationship. This had action, humor, and I liked the art. I'll definitely be getting the first issue.
At first read I thought this issue was ok, after reading Green Arrow #1 and how it went off the rails, I wondered how this issue was getting good reviews. After a quick flip thru, I can see that compared to other Rebirth titles, this one has a very good complete story. Instead of being a sort epilogue, prologue or a filler story, here any concepts being introduced are part of good natural flowing story, the intro of our hero, our hero's new 'partner', mystery disappearances, threat of some minions, and our big bad villain. It's a good time. The art is a surprise being so different from the cover , but it's still looks great.
Había olvidado lo mucho que me gustó el apartado artístico de esta primera grapa. Y eso que el diseño del escote de Dinah me hace preguntarme un montón de cosas.
La historia por lo demás me gusta mucho como empieza y tengo ganas de seguir.

I don't think I read anything pertaining to Green Arrow. This was surprisingly good, I liked the fact that it takes place in Seattle and not Metropolis or Gotham. This loses a star because I feel like they are going to make a romance between Arrow and Canary and I could care less about that.
Regardless, I still plan on continuing this series.
Seriously love these 2 so much, and I am glad a series is FINALLY doing these two justice. The plot was interesting and tense and of course my lovely OTP was brilliant. So much fun, Can't wait to continue on!
I should point out that I do not know much about Green Arrow aside from what little I have seen of the TV series and from Justice League stories here and there. However, this issue did a good job of introducing me to Green Arrow and Black Canary while giving me an idea of where they'll be heading as characters. The art style matched the tone and characters of the comic: a good balance between realistic looking art and cartoonish art. As a new reader to Green Arrow (this is a series I will probably continue), I felt like this Rebirth issue did it's job of introducing me (as a new reader of this character) while also continuing on its main story arc without feeling too weighed down by origins. I also liked how they used the Seattle Underground as part of the whole "rebirth" theme. For someone who hasn't read Green Arrow before, I'm now drawn into his side of the DC Universe.
(I read this as a physical single issue, but I'm not able to find that edition on GR, so I'm just going to use this one).
This was my second favorite of this week's one-shots! I wasn't sure if I'd like it that much or not because, aside from the DCAU Justice League Unlimited and a few episodes of season 1 of Arrow, I haven't really been exposed to Green Arrow, but I've always love archery, and the fact that Oliver is a super-lib like me, so I think this was a match made in heaven. Also, Black Canary is drag goals, and I really like her personality, so it helps to have her in here too.
I can't wait to see how the plot for this unfolds, because I've heard that Oliver is getting his own version of the Court of Owls, so hopefully it'll be just as cool...
One of the worst things about the New 52 was what they did to Green Arrow. The character went from a flawed, well-rounded, courageous character to a vapid, one-dimensional, unlikable character. Everything that was great about Oliver Queen was stripped away and what was left was a shell of the character that I had loved. Prior to the New 52, Green Arrow was one of my favorite superheroes of all-time, so seeing what had happened to him was heartbreaking. Then came Rebirth.
Green Arrow: Rebirth # 1, almost single-handedly, returns Oliver Queen back to what made him one of the greatest comic book characters ever and I could not be happier. Not only that but the story was awesome too. If you have missed the social justice warrior in green, then fear not -- he's back.
Yo... I'm pumped. I made the mistake of buying the first issue in the new rebooted series without reading this Rebirth title, so I had to read this one online because I had no clue what was going on in the first issue.
I'm already fairly familiar with Oliver's character because I've watched Arrow (haven't quite got around to finishing the last half of s4 yet, though), although I feel like Dinah's new to me because she's not the same Black Canary as the one in Arrow. This sets up conflict and a new plot that I feel like I'm going to be able to invest in, and I'm glad I'm going to be picking up this series!
Thank God they finally got Black Canary and Green Arrow back together. These, are two characters that, in my opinion, belong together. I like that the first issue brought them back together instead of having to wait down the road. I'm not quite sure where the storyline is heading, but I'm okay with that. One thing that I did like as well is that right off that bat, Black Canary knows that Green Arrow is Oliver Queen. It will be nice to not have to worry about them wasting a storyline on that alone for a change.

The Underground Men sounds like a pretty cliche name but they sure do look cool. Oh and Ollinah tho. I've never read any Green Arrow comic books, just know some things here and there from the Justice League and from watching Arrow but this Ollie seems really fun and I can't wait to read the next issue.
Green Arrow goes back to his Robin Hood roots and becomes a social justice warrior again. Black Canary is there to point out the hypocrisy of a rich man claiming to be looking out for the little people. The chemistry between the two characters is great. Also, the art is fantastic. It's been a long time since I've been excited to read a Green Arrow book. Now is the time to start reading.
I LOVED THIS ISSUE A LOT. This is my rebirth favorite so far. Finally Dinah and Ollie are together, I was waiting for this. It definitely didn't disappoint, I was not expecting a lot from this but i'm actually surprised, can't wait for the next issue.
