The Ghost at His Back

Rate this book
Ghosts are assholes, and no one knows that better than Garrett, long-suffering seer of the departed. Accompanied by his spectral friend Murphy, he has made a comfortable lifestyle for himself by taking down his city's worst elements, but life is about to take some very strange turns for the beleaguered vigilante.

A serial killer with eerie parallels to Garrett stalks the city's streets, always on the lookout for his next victim, while a secretive gang of ritualistic psychopaths hunts for the thief who took out one of their own. Caught in the cross-hairs, it's all Garrett and Murphy can do to stay one step ahead of their newest enemies.

To complicate things further, an enticing acquaintance has come back to Rankin Flats. Happiness might seem within reach for Garrett, but to stand a chance with her, he'll have to consider doing the one thing most likely to drive her away - telling her the truth.

A guy that can communicate with ghosts!

The Ghost at his Back by Cameron Lowe has a guy growing up with the ability to see and talk with ghosts. It makes family life rough to impossible. He makes a living being a vigilante for the underdogs and being the modern Robin Hood. He has human partners and his life long ghost partner. He meets another like him that can communicate with the dead but unlike him, he is evil to the core! Very exciting story with great characters and lots of action!

Ghostly good story

You can tell when a writer has a good imagination, and this book shows that Cameron Lowe has one. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, if you like a good crime story with solid characters you should read this. Yes, it can be dark at times, but it is not overly dark. There are sex scenes, but they are not explicit (thank you Cameron for that) and do not interrupt the flow of the story.

Great Read

This books has whisps of Stephen King and Dean Koontz, and maybe just a tad of Ron Ripley, but it mostly stands on its own as a really great read. Garrett and Brianna and Murphy are memorable characters, and I sincerely look forward to sharing more adventures with that Caspar trio and their intrepid and adventurous creator, Cameron Lowe. Seriously, if you enjoy Koontz and King, you will LOVE this book! 5 Stars, A++, and Bravo!!!

A delightful, exhilarating, charming paranormal thriller!

This is a thoroughly entertaining story about a do-gooder vigilante Garrett supported by a loyal ghost Murphy. The book takes the readers over the adventures of Garrett, Murphy, his newly acquired girlfriend Brianna joined by Garrett's cop friend Monica and of course, the scores of villains both human and non-human!

The book takes the reader over several different adventures that are totally enjoyable as the narrative is smooth, the characters are well etched and they soon become very endearing.

Thank you for a brilliant, enthralling and fascinating book, Cameron Lowe!

Good ghost story

This was an interesting ghost story with a good flow and well developed characters but a little too much gratuitous sex, in my opinion.

I began reading this book a few days ago; read for about an hour and decided I didn't want to finish it. I put it away, read another book, then came back to it. This time, I stuck with it and it got continuously better. I rated it 4.7 stars. The main character and his ghost/friend turned out to be excellent characters and so did others introduced into the story. Looking forward to reading more.

The Ghost at His Back is an unpredictable, twisted, paranormal thriller. This action-packed novel has great characters and I loved Garrett and Murphy’s interactions. This is Book 1 in the Rankin Flats Supernatural Thriller series and I look forward to reading the next one.

I loved this book. The story was riveting, but what really made it for me were the characters. They were realistic, interacted in totally credible ways, and were ethical and likeable. This was at its heart a romance, a story of the fearful wonder of discovering new love. There was zero snark, which I personally detest, because in real life, sarcasm and smart mouthing do NOT inspire devotion! They were a serious couple, comprised of two very careful and deep thinking people. The ghost element drives the plot forward, is totally believable, and has some fascinating elements that are new concepts. Bonus...I had no eye roll moments - you know, when you are bumped out of the story thinking, "Puh leez!" I highly recommend this book.

I gave it a shot, but it just didn't appeal. The story seems more geared to an early-twenties male. The writing seemed to be generated by someone in this age bracket, as well. Since I am significantly older, and female to boot, I just couldn't find any reason to continue. Reading this was more of a chore than entertainment. I gave two stars since the writing wasn't horrendous; it's the delivery that was lacking. The crudity didn't help matters, either.

The Ghost At His Back

A brilliant masterpiece of thrilling fiction. A must read. No other book this year has amazed me in the way this one did. Both scary, and funny. And a family that is dysfunctional and strong.

Hometown proud

What an excellent beginning to a great series. It was great to meet the author and even better since he's Montanan born and bred. I loved knowing the locations as well as a great story.

I cannot say enough about how much fun it was to read this book from start to finish. It was a great paranormal mystery with just the right amount of humor.

Well written and nicely done. Thanks for a great new series.

Thought this would be a good book but I did not find it as great as I thought it would be when it started out. Too much profanity and if you're not one for cannibalism then it is not recommended. I stuck through it but does not want to make me continue with the rest of the series. The only character I though was well written was Garrett but still not enough to hold my attention to collect the rest of the books.

Fabulous Ghost Story of Sorts

Absolutely loved this book!!! Couldn't put it down and read way to long into the morning... Had me laughing out loud at times, cringing at others and on the edge of my figurative seat most of the time... Great Story, Great Characters and Great location! Love it when the good guys win! Sobering and Adult for the content mainly, great ghost story! Would recommend to any adults who love supernatural stories... 5 Stars from me... 😄

The writing and humor itself is pretty good, however every single female character is described as being to fat, sagging, scarred, and unattractive to be desirable if whatever man who was looking at her was not so generous.

This is not the book for any non men who would have difficulty reading fictional semi covert misogyny and soft boy style alpha male fake feminism.

A good read, great story line a mix of funny and scary.

This book had my interest not the kind of book I usually read but but the funny parts are laugh out loud. The scary and sad parts are the stuff hope are not true but somehow are.

Different!!

Not your run of the mill mystery, but not your average ghost story either. But I was a!ways anxious to get back to it, and find out what happened next.

Good Thriller

Good well-developed characters in a well-thought out thriller with it’s own special twists that leave you guessing to the very end.

I found parts of this book vulgar, which lessened my reading enjoyment. Parts of it was also tiresome reading.
