Cassidy In the blink of an eye, my entire world crumbled…for the second time in my entire life. The first time was when the love of my life stole my heart and then broke it into a million pieces. Brian Callahan. I’ve never been able to get over how deeply that hurt, that feeling of betrayal mixed with anger and unending heartbreak.
The second time was over twenty-seven years later when someone kidnapped the person who meant the most to me…my daughter. I was getting these texts on my phone and pictures of her, threats of what they’d do if I didn’t follow their instructions.
Their instructions wanted me to go back into my past, to the darkest moments of my life, and revive them. They wanted me to look up the man who crushed my heart under his heel like it didn’t matter and help them…destroy him.
Brian I may be a billionaire CEO of a successful conglomeration of businesses, but I’m not a good guy. I have a dark past, which leaks into my present more times than I care to admit.
When I met Cassidy twenty-seven years ago, it was love at first sight. Cassidy and I shared our hopes and dreams with each other. I promised her the moon…and then I let it all come crashing down on her.
I’ve thought about her more than I should have over the years, but when she showed up in my life by chance, I knew that this time I couldn’t let her go.
Note: Brian is the first book in The Callahans series. It can be read as a standalone romance. My second box-set is included as a bonus :)
I don't cringe at much but something about this book hit the bone in parts the wrong way & not because it was badly written & for that reason alone I will give it 3 stars.
“Your personal assistant quit because you were having sex in your office?” Jack laughed. “First-world problems!”
Now we are talking about a 50 year old man having sex against the wall in his office in almost full view of his secretary with a woman almost half his age that he had just met.The sex is very graphic & he goes on about how firm she feels in an old man's embrace.
The woman is not the heroine. That honor goes to another woman he had a 6 month affair with decades ago while separated from his wife.An occurrence that happened regularly, each time his wife & him fought,he went out and f*@ked a new woman.
They had numerous fights about his criminal activities.
The heroine was no better. She felt highly aggrieved for years referring to it as her dark period that a married man she had been having a fling with chose to return to his wife & children. In her defense though she did not know at first but still continued having sex with him after the fact was revealed.
I commend the author in portraying the older hero as an highly sexual individual but restraint would have made the book all the better especially the numerous sex scenes with a much younger woman & thereafter he 'settles' for the much older model who is the heroine. The cover is also a bit misleading.I don't know many 50 year men that look like that.
I think I deserve a medal. This book rubbed me so raw I'm reduced to eating cold ramen noodles while listening to One Direction. So yea, I feel all levels of violated right now.
Then there's all the other little things. 1. The extra sex scenes that I fail to see has anything to do with the story. 2. The drunken romp. 3. All the claim to suggestible violence from the heroine when the greatest feat ever committed was dreaming about stealing another woman's family. 4. The hero who wanted the cake, the cream, the jam and the slice of decorative fruit on top.
By the end of it I was so argh! that even an offer of a hot cuppa couldn't revive me. I mean I'm eating cold ramen, that should be a shock in itself.
So it's safe to say that I am so not a fan of Brian Callahan and Cassidy Myers (lets not even get me started on her surname. That's a whole lotta noodles I would prefer not to be ingesting right now.) But the supporting characters who are listed in the coming series are just part of the reason why I'm continuing with it.
I'm barely into this book, but already I've been put through 3 graphic sex scenes with a woman who isn't the hereon. I got 4% into the boxset version of this book and I'm done. Who fucks other women while on a break from their pregnant wife? Not a Hero I can get behind that's who. It's obvious that our h got pregnant during their 6 months together. (on a side note so far no mention of any kind of protection being used. EEEWWWWWWWW!! the dude is 50, not sterile or immune to STDs and STIs. wrap that shit up.) I'm sorry, he talks about how much he loved his wife, but fucked around on her for over a decade. I don't care if it was a separation. Also he didn't tell the h that he was married until AFTER they started a sexual relationship. So 20 or so years after their affair she's back in Boston. I can only assume that Brianna is Brian's daughter from their time together. She's kidnapped and now mamma bear/old flame/h is back in his life for dirt on him. I don't know why and I no longer care. I really enjoyed Ms. Sinclair's other series Gray Wolf, but this is just gross. I can't anymore.
2.5 - not sure about this but it came in a box set ... guess I'll give book 2 a go and see if it improves. I get the intent but it lacks the depth or thrill of a good mafia book
I understand why some people would give this a extremely low rating, unfortunately this isn't the type of book that is for those people. Those that have snowflake tendencies the ones that are offended by everything. Yes those people SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT read this book and probably not any of this series. If however your like a lot of graphic scenes and swearing from the get go and understand that this is a work of fiction and not real life and no actual real households were effected by anything in this book you should be alright. Yes the editting in this was something less than Stella but given that it's a risky plane read what do you want ? I got it via a free kindle site thing so it's one of those throwaway pieces, I think I only read it as I'm trying to get through my TBR's and Kindle TBR's. It is however a start of a series where the story will continue in the next book so be warned nothing has been resolved by the end.
I'm kind of torn on how to rate this book. I actually almost stopped reading pretty early on but decided to stick it out. I really did not like the beginning of the book with Brian and Rachel. It was an odd dynamic--the 50 year old hero was unhappy that the young reporter would rather sleep with his sons than him...yet somehow they end up sleeping together anyways for a few weeks. I didn't really understand the constant references to the fact that he is old. Then he is reunited with a woman he had an affair with 20 years ago, and this is the couple the book focuses on.
I did like the suspense/mystery part of the story, and it definitely made me enjoy the story more. The ending was kind of odd. They made it seem like there would be more danger/action, but then it just goes into a happy ending scene and ends with a cliffhanger.
Ms. Sinclair threw the ball outta the park with this one. I loved it. It has enough of everything and it still leaves you wanting more.
Brian is is a good bad guy. He isn't your knight in shining armour, he's the villain you can only hope comes to take you sigh. But he isn't as bad as he thinks he is.
Cassidy is a flame from his past. A woman he loved but left for his wife and his children (never ever have I hated a man for doing the right thing). Now many years later she shows up and not by coincidence...
I'll stop there... let's just say READ IT READ IT READ IT.
The book was entaining, the character development is mediocre, which was why I gave it 4 stars. Again, it held my interest and passed the time, but the author uses sex to pull it together. In fact if I had to give the book a label it would be "A One Night Stand"
It's a quick read, with little to no emotional envolment, and when it's over, you walk away with a smile, glad to be moving on to something more substantial.
I wasn't keen on this story. He was married, his wife has now died, but when they were together they had fought a few times and split for a while and during those times despite knowing his wife wouldn't break her vows he saw other women. One of these women, Cassidy ends up pregnant and goes to tell him as he has decided to go back to his wife. So he is a cheater. So it's a secret baby, second chance romance.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
If you like a mature older man. Thin Brian's for you. Sexy, sophisticated a little rough on the out, but gentle on the inside. A man who love his family and will anything to protect them.
This was an enjoyable read and as the first in a series makes for a promising start. There was a little of everything going on mystery, intrigue , romance and suspense I look forward to the next installment.
He wasnt a good guy. He wasnt a bad guy. What he was was a cheater. He pretty much cheated in the past. Cheated on his kinda gf with his ex. Blah blah. I didnt like either of them.
This is my first book by Glenna Sinclair. Since it's a mafia story, that made it immediately appealing to me. The story was about love lost and found years later. Excellent read!
