Murder At The Renaissance Fair: A rare catch cozy mystery (Book 3)

The Rare Catch has been hired to cater meals for the three-day long annual Renaissance Fair in Meloda. During their time there, the Chairwoman of the Fair Committee, Julia Palmer, is found dead in her office tent, apparently from a heart attack. With the Fair closed off and several people detained on the grounds, Veronica and Sakura are asked to discreetly look for clues to assist with the investigation. Did Julia actually die from a heart attack, or is there something more sinister at work here?

Turns out Julia was not the most popular person around and was known to take advantage of her position as Chairwoman to manipulate others. It also seems she was involved in some underground gambling rings. Things become even more complicated when another body is found, but this time, it’s obviously murder!

With two mysteries to solve, Veronica and Sakura have to use their reasoning and personal skills to find out who is responsible for these deaths. Is there more than one person involved? Why were they killed? And ultimately, will the killer or killers will strike again?

Fantastic characters and story line. Did not guess who was doing the killing until almost at the end of the story which makes it more interesting to read. Keeps you guessing and keeps your interest right to the end. Will be reading more from this series.

My fault for not noticing this was book 3 in the series when I grabbed it off amazon. Not terribly detrimental to this story, but I certainly felt like I'd know Veronica and Sakura better had I read those.

The Rare Catch, Veronica's restaurant, is hired to cater the three-day long annual Renaissance Fair in Meloda, and she takes Sakura along to manage the crowds. Meals are included in the admission price, so everyone wants something to eat, and Julia Palmer, the Chairwoman of the Fair Committee, insists they offer at least some authentic medieval fare. When Julia ends up dead, Veronica decides to head up her own investigation and get to the bottom of it...mostly because the Fair is on lock-down until the killer is caught.

I'm a little incredulous that the chief of police was there and just said sure as to letting Veronica and Sakura poke around and pretend to be part of the investigation. Really? They already had a detective on-site.

Murder At The Renaissance Fair

Chef Veronica and her assistance Sakura have been commissioned to cater at a Renaissance Fair. On the first day of the fair, traffic was slow to their tent as the weather wasn't playing nice that day and attendance was low. The Chairwoman of the Fair had stopped by and was pleasant enough to them. During the downtime of the day, Chef Veronica and Sakura visited a few of the other activities going on but noted that the Chairwoman was less than pleasant with others. By the end of the day, the chairwoman was dead. By the next morning, there was yet another death. What was going on? Who was doing the killing? Was one accidental or were they intentional. Veronica and Sakura work with the police department to help solve the mystery. A nice easy read. Well-written.

Loved it.

This one had a great storyline as well. I was pretty sure I knew who the killer was but what stumped me was the reason why. I am looking forward to see where the next book takes everyone.
