Omega freelance writer Christian Tessaro has spent his life determined to prove that not every Omega needs an Alpha. After all, they are equals in the eye of the law now. When Christian finds his ex-boyfriend unconscious in a pool of blood, he doesn't think twice before calling 911. Unfortunately, sometimes a witness can look a lot like a suspect and things only go from bad to worse. When the real murderer begins methodically framing Christian for his crimes, the only person Christian can rely on is the Alpha he can't keep from responding to...
Alpha in pursuit...
Enter veteran police detective, Viktor Trask. Shifters like himself are rare in this day and age, and Omegas are rarer still. Only seconds after meeting Christian, Vic’s dragon was itching to claim him for his own. Problematic as the Omega was the obvious suspect in an attempted murder that Trask was investigating. Viktor is determined to clear Christian's name and claim his Omega but can he do it before Christian is added to the mounting body count?

I haven't read a Kian Rhodes story in ages, but I didn't misremember how the lack of editing always drives me a little nuts. The mistakes in The Obvious Suspect isn't terribly distracting, but it still leaves me screaming, "gosh author, at least find a beta team...". Ah well.
So, The Obvious Suspect is a mystery, a bit low on the steam for a Rhodes romance, with a traditional alpha/omega storyline. A solid three stars from me.
Cute story with potential, but the writing needs a lot of cleaning up. The person obviously doesn’t know how things work in a hospital either. Once I got past those things I did enjoy the story and I liked Chris and Vic, there wasn’t a big build up in their relationship though. Half the time they didn’t even speak to each other.
I don't think I ever fell for the characters or the story. I wanted to like the MCs but I got aggravated pretty quickly when they couldn't communicate over the smallest issues. I thought Christian's loyalty to the druggie ex boyfriend was strange and never really went into detail about their relationship or why Christian was with him in the first place. As for the story? I felt like I was chasing my tail with it was this guy, no now this guy, oops hes dead gotta be someone else. It made the police force seem incompetent and I'm not sure how we got to the end game.
I am becoming a huge fan of m/m cop books. I completely adore shifter books so put them together and I am sold. This one kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down. I really liked Christian's humor. There were some spots that made me laugh out loud. I'm also becoming a big fan of dragon shifters. I loved the way the author described Viktor's dragon. I wanted to reach out and touch him myself. Ms. Rhodes has found herself a new fan. Can't wait to see what she brings next.
Chris a confidant human omega goes to the house of ex-boyfriend to pick up items left over from the breakup when he finds him injured. He immediately calls 911 when the ex asks him to get rid of incriminating evidence. Chris didn't find the drugs or money but took papers that might be important. Someone still in the house saw him do this but was able to slip out of the house before police and ambulance arrive. Let the bad times roll as Chris is first a suspect, then in the crosshairs of one murderous killer after the other. The Dragon Alpha, a police detective naturally falls for Chris as he works to keep him alive. This story has many twists and turns and lots of danger before we get our hea. A great read and I highly recommend it.
I really enjoyedit this book! It was fun and fast paced with plenty of romance as well as an enjoyable murder mystery. The murders really kept me guessing- every time I thought I know whodunit or why another twist would happen to keep me guessing! It was a lot of fun to read and really propelled the story forwards.
The romance was both sweet and a little dramatic. Our omega Christian can be a bit of a drama queen and with Vic being bad at communication at times plenty of little problems crop up between the two. They always make sure to talk it out in the end though and the scenes between them have a real spark. They are a cute couple and it was fun reading their story!
I love Dragons! Vic is a Cop and a Alpha dragon. Christian is a writer and a human Omega. When they first encounter each other it's at a serious crime scene. One whiff and Vic knows Christian is his mate. Now all they have to do is live through the investigation. With dead bodies piling up everywhere, that might be easier said than done. I never did figure out who the killer was. This is a magnificently crafted story that keeps you guessing until the end. Like I always say, a fantastic EPILOGUE is priceless. Thank You, Kian Rhodes for another exciting, magnificent shifter romance. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!
I'm not a huge fan of M/M pregnancy stories, however I enjoyed Kian Rhodes Omega Auction and Rescue stories, so I took a chance on this book. This was an interesting take on Shifters and humans. The mystery of the story who shoot Christian's ex boyfriend a drug dealer enter Vic the detective assigned the case. The story goes through a number of twists and turns there are subtle clues before a reveal followed quickly by a gotcha moment. All in all a sweet story with a nice and we'll deserved happy ending.
Like always Kian Rhodes delivered another amazing books to her Readers. This book had everything in it. Drama, action, sizzling chemistry, Love, angst, bloodshed. Whatever you expected in a good shifter novel, you’ll get it in this book. Though the dragon shifting is very less, like, just one time. I would have liked reading more about it. But overall I Loved reading this story, enjoyed it thoroughly. I devoured it in one sitting.
Let there be dragons!!!!! I love dragon shifters. This was a really good book. I love when I don’t figure out who the bad guy is. There was some misunderstanding between the two MC’s but noth8ng lasted for long and they discussed the issues and moved past them. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I'm a fan of Kian Rhodes but this book is the best yet. I sometimes feel her stories could be a little beefier but this one was just perfect. Nothing over the top, good story, great side characters. Can't wait for more in this new series
Good read; several interesting plot twistsplot twists
I liked the character development and interaction as well as the surprise plot turns. Especially the eventual dragon's shift. And the HEA ending. I'd love to see more of this story line.
The content for the ebook on Amazon KU is not the story described. It is the story "his perfect match" instead. Fix it and I'll try to read it again, and change the score.
While I enjoyed this story, it had a number of flaws. The mystery was all over the place and threw in everything but the kitchen sink. No one is that hard to kill. Also I couldn't help but wonder why Christian was left alone unguarded all day if he was supposed to be in protective custody. There were some holes in the plot too. The romantic aspect, however, was done well, although with a lot of that misunderstanding based conflict that can be a pet peeve for some people. I have to say that I enjoyed Kian's Omega Auction books more, but would still eagerly read anything else she comes out with.
The crime theme of the story plot was very good, pulling and that is the only reason I kept reading it. The romance between Vic & Christian was not as such. Even if both characters are okay I did not like how author choose to make problems between MC's with:
- not talking or explaining what was going on, - because of it, there was sadness and lot of crying.
To me, it was like "Kian Rhodes" did not want to or did not know how to make or choose something more relevant for MC's to go apart for a while. So, romance is more annoyance than interest.
The pacing in this one was a bit off, there were a few editing mistakes and the mystery element didn't really work for me in the end. However, having said that, I quite like the way this author writes shifters and this one was well done on that front. I would like to read more in this series, Coop deserves a story as he was quite a character for a secondary, and I liked the team building element of the police setting.
The story was really well written and it kept me interested and guessing until the end. Lately the seems to be a lot of Dragon / omega stories and they all seem to read the same and many I don't want to read past the first chapter. I'm glad this wasn't one of those. It had a unique storyline and characters. Great job!
I liked this book pretty well, though I wish that the mystery had been a little less elaborate. Having all off those bad guys got to be very confusing, especially at the end when they were all referred to by last name repeatedly. Vic was typically alpha and was a horrible communicator while Christian took the lack of communication as a lack of interest.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, kept me guessing as to who the bad guys were but it all seemed to end quite abruptly in just a short explanation which was quite annoying! But well worth a read
Very intriguing read kept me interested all the way. It's been a year since it came out i was wondering 😔 if any others would be following since this was to be the first of the series. I'd love to 👀 more.😎
A true romantic suspense and one hot erotic relationship make for one great book. There is only one place where Vic shifts, so if that is your main focus, it is small. However, all the other alpha/omega aspects are there.
KU Nice quick read but the law enforcement part was not well thought out so don't read it thinking of accuracy or believability. I'm a sucker for dragon shifters, though.
