If you are reading the Kindle edition, go to 99% first and read the author's note so you will understand more of what this book is about. This is especially important if you have been reading this series all along. I was expecting another book with a guy from the usual group.
This book is a transition from the familiar Frelen chapter (books 1-9) to the Daurian chapter, the one with the insane, bad Prez involved in Book 9. It's jarring if you have read the whole series like I have and none of the names except Trev's were familiar. It would help if the author had put something as a clear note about this in the beginning of the book because I found myself back-tracking previous books to figure this out.
Otherwise, it's sort of the very same setup: there is a Blaine-like nasty/dirty/supposed-to-be-funny guy but this time his name is Cash. There is Trev the new Prez, who is sort of like Miller in personality, but married (see Book 9). There are guys named Trent, Duke, Jasper (the VP), Kye, Max, Hudson, Austin, Xavier, Tristan, and Cade. Trent is the Enforcer (aka the Monster) and I guess he's equivalent to an SAA since I didn't notice anyone else getting that title.
So basically, Trev is the new chapter Prez now that the previous double dealing one, Ripper, is dead. (That story is in Book 9.) Trev has a mess on his hands due to dirty deals Ripper was doing behind the back of the club, but they are still left holding the bag to make all of that right. It involves a rival club that was stiffed for a weapons purchase, Irish mafia that now has the weapons but will sell them back for cash and conditions, some roving Russian fight club guys who also have whores and booze, a rogue patch named Draxton from the stiffed rival club that is somehow involved doing his own deals in the middle and wants Harlee back, and Trent's dirty dealing father that the Irish guys want knocked off... by Trent.
There's a lot of fighting and murder in this one, which I liked, although it was difficult to figure out who all the players were. Frankly, some of it made little sense, especially the last scene involving Draxton and how he was scheming with all of these other groups, but then one of their snipers takes out Draxton... wait, what? These people are involved somehow, then save the day with their sniper, but no one says or does anything about that? Just too convoluted.
There is a cameo from some of the Frelen guys.
This book is mainly about Trent and Harlee. I don't want to say much about them so that this isn't a total spoiler review. I wasn't really invested in that particular romance at all, anyway. So, dud romance in this book, imho.
There are just too many groups and confusion in this book. There was an MC called the Hell Five that was talked about a bit in the beginning as being bad guys, but then they are totally dropped.
So, sorry, but just barely 2 stars this time. I'll still read the next one and hope it's better organized, not so chaotic and with a better romance pair.
