What if you think you met the man of your dreams at your best friend’s wedding, but the problem is, he lives in the past and you live in the future? Nicky can’t seem to adjust to life now that her best friend, Kimberly, has decided to live in 1893 with her new husband. She loves her job and there are many things she enjoys doing, but she can’t help but think there is more to life. She would like to find the same kind of love Kimberly has, but every man she dates seems to fall short of the man she met at Kimberly’s wedding. Shaun enjoys hearing from Nicky through letters, more than he would like to admit. She is from the future, and he can’t imagine she would ever want to travel back in time and would want to stay in his time. Then Nicky shows up at the ranch to help Kimberly, but Shaun knows he needs to be careful. He already gave his heart to a woman, who left him almost at the altar. He can’t go through that again…can he?If you like time travel and mail-order bride romances, you’ll love this series!
I saw this time travel romance on BookBub as a Kindle freebie and went to Amazon to check out the online sample before downloading (I've gotten leery that way). Somehow while I was looking at the sample I accidentally downloaded it to my Kindle. Did my finger brush the wrong place on my iPad? Was I supposed to read this book? Was it a sign?
Well, if it was a sign, it should have said STOP. Or maybe "Do Not Enter."
So in the first book in this series, Nicky's BFF Kimberley answered an ad for a mail order bride, and surprise! she goes from the 21st century to 1879 to meet this guy. (There are these people with magical time-travel keys.) Nicky goes back to 1879 for the wedding, meets Shaun, the brother of Kimberly's husband, and they hit it off, enough that they become VERY long-distance pen pals (the magic keys can also send letters back and forth in time, conveniently enough).
But Shaun is nursing a sense of disillusionment in women, and is also protective of his part-Native American daughter, and unwilling to trust that a woman from the future would stay with them permanently. There's also some subplot about someone trying to steal the Magic!time-travel keys, but by then I'd checked out mentally.
The writing is painfully amateurish and simplistic, and the hero's explanation for pushing the heroine away from him made my eyes roll so hard. There are several happy romance novel lovers who rated this 4 and 5 stars ... though as I take a closer look at them, most of them look suspiciously alike, with bolded headlines (Wonderful! Fantastic! Awesome series! etc.) and glowing although very brief reviews. I suspect a case of Friends & Family of Author and/or Sock Puppets.
Seriously, only download this book if you are an extremely non-critical reader and are inordinately fond of fluffy clean romances.
1.5 stars, sorry, rounding down. I don't rate books 1 star lightly, but even though I did a ton of skimming and skipping, I still felt like I'd wasted my time.
The story line held my attention, but the errors were distracting. For example, "exacerbated" was used instead of "exasperated," "comment" instead of "comet," and more. I groaned inwardly whenever one of these errors popped up. "Spell check" is not enough--you need an actual editor to catch mistakes like these.
Okay, So I have given this author two books now to improve the writing style but they failed. I just did not like it. The story and premise was well done but I just did not like the style of writing. It was too simplistic. I just couldn't get over that and enjoy the book.
There are 100 unnecessary commas in the first 7 chapters of this book. Its like the author just randomly throws them in whenever she blinks or something. It drove me bonkers!
I love the plot of this story. The way time travel is portrayed is very cool! I like the characters in the story. But the writing is unprofessional. I do think that with some education, it could be quite good.
This is the second book in this series, meaning it's the second book I've read by this author. I'm intrigued and want to see what happens to these characters over time.
I actually edited the first 7 chapters on my Kindle. It helped me not be so frustrated with the way the bad punctuation and grammar slowed down my reading.
A good editor or some educated beta readers would make reading these books a pleasure. I'm going to have to take a break reading this series. I'm sure I will be back when I'm needing something light and happy to read. I will be bracing myself to endure the crazy punctuation.
I really like the way her books pick up where the previous book left off. Although somewhat predictable, plot lines are good. I don’t think the “bad guy” Golin needs to be in these books at all though. It’s nice to have a happy story line without the need of a villain- I am finding myself hoping that this Golin character only shows up briefly to try and find the keys but blunders repeatedly which could be turned into a hysterical concurrent storyline! (Carl Hiaasen is an excellent example of the style of writing I am thinking of).
Disappointing. Could have been great but was not l got the 2nd book on Book Bub for cheap but not even worth that. In one chapter Shaun was replaced with Patrick twice before his own name was used. I had to read that paragraph again before l figured it out. I finally skipped fro 50% read to 85% read to see how it ended. Won't get the third even if it was free. Oh well, on to the next book by some other author and hope for better!

I've read book 1 and now book2 in this series. Two young women who are best friends (almost sisters) see an unusual add in the newspaper. It has a picture of a woman who looks like she was from the late 1800's. These two stories were great!! The time traveling key is a interesting way to travel. And can you imagine giving up your life in the 21st century and marrying and living in the 1890's?
Same as first book: 3.5 Stars. The story is good. The characters are good. It's well thought out and planned however I was not emotionally engaged. I was told the story but didn't feel it and found the characters to be flat. There is much potential here so I hope for more depth and feeling in future books.
Nicky is Kimberly’s best friend and arrives in the past for the wedding. Here she meet Shaun and his daughter Colleen. She and Shaun write letters for several months. Nicky decides to travel in time to help deliver Kimberly’s baby. A problem with someone trying to steal the keys causes the stopping of travel and letters between the two times.
I love this series and this 2nd installment didn't disappoint! Nicky travels to the year 1890 to be with her friend Kimberly when she gives birth and to see if there might be something between her and Shaun, Kimberly's brother in law. Lots if romance and even some suspenseful moments. I stayed up late into the night as I couldn't put it down!
The punctuation errors in this book made it absolutely irritating to read and distracted from the insipid story. I have two recommendations for this author. She should re-read the instructions for use of 'the Oxford comma' and she should look for a copy of Eats, Shoots and Leaves.
Sometimes love knows no boundaries. I loved Nicky and Shaun’s story. We never know where life will take us. If you decide to read the series, I recommend reading them in order. I am looking forward to reading the next story.
Another sweet, clean romance! I love a time travel romance. This one even has a slight suspenseful mystery to it. I really am enjoying the Callahan family and their ladies from another time. Can’t wait for more!
A take off from book one, same characters which is expected. I did notice quite a few typo but I knew what the words were suppose to be. This book was a good read but not as good as the first. On to book three, we'll see.
Nikki misses her best friend Kimberly and once she learns the Kimberly is pregnant, decides to travel to see her. It so happens that Kimberly is brother in law(Shaun) is also there and there is an immediate connection. Hmmm...what could happen.😉
The story grips your imagination and you want to know more about the lives of these people. Can't wait for more books in this series. Very well written
Never having thought of reading time travel romances, this story as the previous ones held my interest and I couldn't wait to continue reading. A very enjoyable story!
I enjoyed this book. There are still errors in words and punctuation which can be a little distracting, as in the first book, but I like the story. It's an easy to read, clean romance.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Started at 9 pm and finished at 11:45 pm, as I couldn't put it down. Great characters and I felt that I was right there with them.
