Can a BBW pilot and a sexy alien warrior find love in the midst of war?

One curvy pilot...

Kira Thorne knows it’s time to take life seriously - and with the Rebellion against the Kamaran Empire in full swing, she’s eager to do her part. Kira’s an ace pilot... but when she auditions for the elite Storm Squadron fighter unit and chokes at the crucial moment, it confirms all her worst insecurities!

She doesn’t think she’s good enough - for the Squadron, or the impossibly hot Kamaran who leads it. When he makes her a member anyway, becoming her commanding officer, it’s time for Kira to conquer her fears… and face her desires...

One sexy warrior...

Commander Ja’al leads the Storm Squadron. He knows the Rebellion needs Kira’s instincts and leadership skills - but Ja’al sees her beauty, and has to fight the instinct to claim the spirited BBW for his own.

His role is to mentor her, not seduce her… but since Kira wants him just as badly, it’s not long before temptation proves too much for both of them!

And a life-or-death battle…

When the rebels’ location is betrayed and the Empire attacks, Ja’al finds a way to keep Kira out of the fight... but she’s not about to let him risk himself alone!

With not only their lives, but the survival of the Rebellion at stake, Kira can’t let herself crack under the pressure - she must find a way to summon the strength Ja’al knows she possesses. Can the lovers lead the Squadron to victory… or will their happy future be cut short by the Empire’s tyranny?

Firstly, this was actually an excellent sci-fi book.
The description of battles both simulated and real was great. The description of a)the ship's systems, b)the mechanical parts of the ships, c)the space, d)the training areas, e)the weapons, all were given to the reading audience in the most proper way for a sci-fi adventure. And that's the main thing: the book was really heavy in military action.
If a reader is looking mainly for romance, he/she will be disappointed. There is romance but not in the quantities we usually find in the Sci Fi romance books. In most romance books there is action for 5 pages, then sex for 10 pages, then emotions for 3 pages, then action for 2 pages, then sex for 15 pages, then emotions for 6 pages, then action for 1 page, then sex for 20 pages and so on. You understand how it goes....
This book was mainly adventure and this is the reason I really enjoyed it. Don't worry, there is romance and sex and emotions but the writer is focusing more on the quality of love scenes in comparison to the quantity of love scenes. And the love scenes are actually contributing to the story rather than overpowering it.
I was thinking maybe the male audience would also like this book since usually men are more interested in sci-fi action and less in emotions.
The love story is about Kira and her commander Ja'al. The other relationships are focusing on friendship, teamwork, betrayal, regrets, sacrifices and unconditional love while the rebellion against a ruthless Empire is taking place in full speed.

Very good read

Another stubborn female (and male). Kira is insecure but doesn't let it get her down at least not much. Ja'al won't let her. Good read!

Kira is a great pilot but suffers from crippling self-esteem issues. She was fine when it was just her and her friend on cargo ships but when they got taken aboard the rebellion ship and she starts her training for the squadron she starts to doubt herself. She keeps herself sane daydreaming about the gorgeous Ja'al. He is the best friend of her new boss (ex pirate and ex-prince Adaar). Can she keep her dreams in check or will real life begin to mirror fantasy?

Ja'al is the squadron group's leader. He is supposed to be unbiased and neutral but Kira is getting him hot and bothered. He knows she is capable of being a great pilot and leader and does what he can to bolster her spirits but he has the overwhelming need to keep her safe! But when the Empire finds the little rebel base care of a spy i their camp, can Kira make a deadly decision and save her team..at the expense of herself?

Ja'al is wonderfully conflicted as the alpha male in charge but frustrated mate wannabe of the lovely Kira. He can't understand why she doesn't trust in herself and her abilities more. Kira is so caring of her friends and team mates and she does not want to let them down and her doubts just mount up until she no longer trusts any of her decisions. But when it comes to Ja'al she knows that what they are doing may be frowned upon but it is the one thing she knows is right!

This totally appealed to the Star Wars nerd inside me! I want more!!!!

Flail for me some might like it

Overall Ms Skye's work is a decent read. She does a good job providing a thoughtout and planned storyline with only a couple minor weakenesses or flaws. Spelling or grammar or typo isn't perfect but rarely do I find one these days that doesn't have at least one issue.

Here is the issue, my third criteria for judging a book is overall enjoyment. The general storyline was okay to an extent, but I decided I don't like our h. In general some stories benefit from having an h or an H who is self-consciously weaker but usually they gain confidence in themselves much sooner and aren't so dang needy most of the way through the story. Nor did it fit with the character she was described as being and growing up as she did. Nor did it seem like she was willing or tried to improve herself no matter what people told her. The Kira of this book just seems much weaker than I expected after reading the previous book.

My review is for this book only, I would still be willing to read other stories by Ms Skye including ones in this series.

Honestly I quit reading at about 10% in. The main character Kira drove me crazy dithering, overthinking, and being in her head way too much. As soon as anything started to happen she was off thinking about Ja'al and whether she was going to wind up on the squad or not--I don't know how she managed to walk down the hall. The action sequence that opens up the book is really good; this is a true Star Wars knock off with Kira as a non-Jedi pilot from a backwater desert planet who relies on her intuition instead of the Force to make shots. I picked this up on KU not realizing that it was part of a series with some serious backstory already accumulated. While the author made a lot of effort to catch the reader up and shore it up as a stand-alone, this would be best enjoyed if read in order. I think the writing was good enough to make me take a stab at something else by the author, assuming it was just this character who was irritating.

This is a good quick read with will developed characters. Very enjoyable.

It's book two in the series, but I read it without any problem (other than wanting to go back afterward and find out the back story from the first book). Kira and Ja'al's story can stand alone. She is a mechanic/freighter pilot who now wants to join the storm squadron to help of the rebel cause... and it doesn't hurt that a certain attractive male (Ja'al) is the group's leader. She is unsure that she's up to the task and suffers from some inadequacy issues which Ja'al intends to work on. He is attracted to Kira as well and wants to keep her close. He also knows that she is far more capable than she realizes.

The situation takes a turn when the Empire locates their hideout and they must now defend or run away. Questions arise: who betrayed them? will they make it out alive? and will they still have each other at the end of all this?

I believe I won a copy of an ARC but not really sure anymore.

I won't rewrite the blurb...but this is the story of Kira and Ja'al. Kira has self esteem issues and Ja'al hopes to help her overcome them. This story has violence, is about a rebellion and alien planets, has explicit sex. I enjoyed the story-it showed the strength of Kira and that sometimes you need to trust yourself. I would give it a 4 1/2. Is it for everyone? Probably not-but I thought the story was interesting and the suspense is interesting. I liked the characters. If you enjoy fantasy/romance or sci fi/romance I would say you would enjoy this. This is a stand alone and well worth the try. Let me know what you think.

This is an exceptionally good book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it has everything in it to keep a reader fascinated and interested. There is drama, suspense, intrigue, rebellion, alien planets, aliens and humans standing together for the greater good, low self esteem issues, jealousy, a friends betrayal, sabotage, action, falling in love, romance and mild erotic scenes. The story-line is well developed and action packed. The characters have personality with fears, doubts, needs and desires. I will most definitely recommend this book to people who like to read military combat combined with romance.

I received a review copy in exchange for my honest review.

I have to say this book was way better than the first (which I had to quickly read as I received an ARC of this book - thank you KU). This book actually has it all - the rebellion, the romance, and the betrayal. I liked Ja'al but I wanted to smack Kira (half the time - hence the 4 stars). This time around the main characters are actually attracted to each other and really interact (something the main leads in the first book didn't really do). There is still more sci-fi than romance but it keeps the story moving. Yes, Kira's constant self doubt is annoying to read but if you can get past it, the story is worth reading.

Excellent, fast paced action, good vs bad element & some sex scenes. Ja'al & Kira make an excellent team. I loved this book & I hadn't even read the 1st book but will definitely be reading it now & if there's any more in this series too. I started & finished this book in 1 day as I didn't want to stop reading until the end.

I enjoyed the story its a pretty good sci-fi romance . I do have to say that it is more sci-fi than romance but it does keeps the story moving. The one thing that bothered me was Kira's constant self doubt it is really annoying and started to get on my nerves but if you can get past it, the story is worth reading.

I wasn't sure if I would like this as much as the first book, but Kira is such a great sassy character with flaws. However she pushes past her confidence issues and works well with Ja'al.
